Should I get Microsoft office for my new MBP?

I ordered my MPB 13" online and added iWork. It was much cheaper than Microsoft Office and looked nice and fancy Should I get Microsoft Office too? I had it on my old laptop (not a mac).
I'm a university student so I am unsure if iWork will be as compatable with lecture ppts and notes etc.
Any suggestions?

It may depend on what your major is, but iwork should be an excellent program for your use at college. I've used both Microsoft office and iWork for years. iWork is much more intuitive than MS office and is less $. You can save documents from iWork in MS office format. I've heard there are some advanced features in MS office that iWork doesn't have, but I've never needed them in my professional use.
You might try iWork and see how it works and if you need to get MS office in the future it's pretty inexpensive since you are a student.
Good luck.
M.

  • How do I get Microsoft Office unto my new MacBook Air?

I recently purchased a new MacBook Air to be able to complete my online courses, and soon after I noticed that I don't have Microsoft Office pre-installed. Is that standard that Mac computers don't have Microsoft Office already installed? How can I get MS without having to pay an exuberant amount for a new license?

yes it is normal, mac computers don't come with MS office on them
unfortunately the only (legal) way of acquiring microsoft office is to buy a license - as a student you might be entitled to discounts depending on your country (in the UK we have http://www.software4students.co.uk)
there are alternatives - Pages/Numbers/Keynote are the Apple equivalent of Word, ExCel and PowerPoint respectively. office documents can be opened using these apps too. i hear complaints from people who need certain features only available in MS office but for the average user the Apple versions are brilliant
then there's the free openoffice, etc, if you were looking for something along those lines

  • Having trouble getting Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 to run.

I recently upgraded my iMac to ML, but since then I've had difficulty getting the app to run.  It would give me an error message and an error log.  Then I created a new user profile to see if it'll run there (under system prefs, then under users & groups).  Well, it did run.  It opened just fine under the new user profile.  So it can't be a problem with the new OS.  So what is it with my primary user profile?  What is keeping Office from running in one user profile and not another?

I am assuming that you are attempting to download a copy of Microsoft Office directly from the Microsoft Store ... correct? If so, you cannot use the product key from the CD as this key is specifically used for the software on that CD. You would need to acquire a new product key as you would need to purchase another copy of Office for your MacBook Air.
The Mac version can be found here.

  • Where can I get Microsoft Office for my MacBook Pro?

I need to install Microsoft Office in my MacBookPro.

Most Brick and Mortar technology/laptop stores will sell them if they sell Macs [for example, in Canada, Best Buy and Future Shop have them]. You can also order off of the website that was posted above my post. I'd check out your local computer store / technology store.

  • Was not getting Apple Care for my new MBP retina a bad thing?

I recently bought a MBP retina, and I didn't get the apple care because it sorta went over my budget. I mean, I don't bring my computer around too much...
Isn't there a one year warranty that is already included in the price of the MBP??

You have 1 year from date of purchase to add AppleCare (but assume you will need all of that last week, just in case, to avoid missing it by just 1 day).
Some people wait to save the money for 11 months, while others buy it immediately to have no lapse in telephone spport.

  • Buying MIcrosoft Office for new iBook

    Hello,
I don't know if this is the right place for this question, but I couldn't find anywhere else to ask it. I just got a new G4 iBook (haven't even booted it up yet!), and I want to get started on the right foot. (My G3 iBook's hard drive is cluttered up with excess applications, etc.)
I need to get MS Office for the new iBook. I am academic, so I'm eligible for the Academic Price of $149. I'm also on a low budget, and I'm wondering if I can get it cheaper, for example on ebay. Are the versions on ebay legit, registerable versions, or somehow bootlegged or otherwise problematic? How do I know this by looking at the ad?
Also, I see that there's going to be a new version (Office 2007) coming out later this year. Is there any reason I should try to hold out for that? Will it be a lot more money? Will it be prone to bugginess? If the only difference will be a few new geegaws, I don't really care about that at all. Does anybody know if the new version will be compatible with the old (in other words, can I work on my documents both at school and at home if one has 2007 and the other 2004)? I also would like to install the new Office on both iBooks.
    Thanks in advance!
    Anna
PS. Some more questions about the new iBook might be forthcoming...
    Ibook G3 500 MHz, iBook G4 1.33 GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   14 GB HD, 640 MB RAM

...for example on ebay. Are the versions on ebay legit, registerable versions, or somehow bootlegged or otherwise problematic? How do I know this by looking at the ad?
Buyer beware. There is no way that you can absolutely guarantee the integrity of those packages.
Also, I see that there's going to be a new version (Office 2007) coming out later this year.
No, it is Office 2008 not Office 2007. See this link.

  • Where can I get a free microsoft office for MAC?

    Hi,
I had microsoft office installed on my macbook pro but my hdd died and I cannot find the disk for it and the key. Wondering of it is possible get microsoft office for free.

No, not possible.  It is a commercial program and you have to buy it.
You may be able to recover your key - see http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/how-do-i-recover-or-replace-a-lost-mic rosoft-office-product-key-HA104172018.aspx but I don't know about getting replacement media from MS (you can always ask them).
You could check out the free options - OpenOffice or LibreOffice for OS X and see if they'd work for you instead though.

I would like to get data analysis for solving statistic and making graphs, but this function is not in add-in. How should I do? I also set up microsoft office for mac 2011.

Microsoft didn't include that with the 2011 version.
There is a third-party application that substitutes for the add-in: http://www.analystsoft.com/en/products/statplusmac/
They also have a limited, free version.

  • How to reinstall Microsoft Office for Mac after new hard drive?

Recently I had a problem with my Macbook Pro, and unfortunately had to purchase a new hard drive and have it installed. This also led to the loss of data and other things, such as Microsoft Office for Mac. I know this is an Apple community, but I get better answers here than at the Microsoft communities so I'm hoping someone can help find out how to reinstall Microsoft Office 2013. I logged onto my Microsft account and it says that there is no record of me purchasing Microsoft Office on that account but I know thats the account that it was purchased on, so i cannot get my product key to reinstall it as directed. Someone please help!!!!

Try calling MS support and explaining the situation, maybe they will issue a new key.

Or you could just wipe out Lion and restalled Snow Leopard. Then when you are in the market for a new computer, desktop of notebook, buy something other then Apple.
why would you say things like that here? if you are a windows one then stay there. but you are not polite or helpful and if can't use Apple i wonder why you would come here to tell all about your sad story. I don't understand that it has nothing to do with question asked.
I own, or should I say have owned, several Apple products. Including a new MBP.
    I also use Windows.
I will say anything I like in an effort to help people overcome problems they are having with Mac's and computers in general.
Being a Apple Fanboy is not required for membership on this forum or trying to help other Mac users.
And just how is suggesting to remove Lion and to go back to Snow Leopard not helping the OP in his quest to make his already owned and paid for MS Office software work? If it is isn't broken stop trying to fix it. Snow Leopard is a fine OS. Lion is still in Beta, only Apple hasn't told anyone. And yes I run Lion on my new MBP but I also have a partition with Snow Leopard on it.
Thank you and have a great day.

  • I upgraded my Mac from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and then to Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  I did have Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 in my applications and now get a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported."

I just upgraded my MAC from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and then to Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  When I try to access my Microsoft Office for MAC (2004 edition) files I am getting a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported.  How can I access all of my save Word documents?  I just want to be able to retrieve all of my documents that were in Microsoft Office for Mac (2004).  If I purchase the newest version of MS office for Mac from Apple will I be able to retrieve my old documents?

Use any number of free alternatives to your nearly decade old version of MS Office.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice (free)
    OpenOffice (free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for years. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • Will microsoft office for mac 2004 transfer from my emac running 10.4.11 to the new iMac running mountain lion using migration assistant?

will microsoft office for mac 2004 transfer from my emac running 10.4.11 to the new iMac running mountain lion using migration assistant?

Microsoft Office 2004 will not work on any Mac running Lion or Mountain Lion. You will need to upgrade to Office 2011, buy the less expensive iWork apps from the App Store or use a free office clone like OpenOffice or NeoOffice.
