Should I get the 3G now or wait awhile?

I have the 1st gen iPhone now and was waiting for the 3G to become available. I had the money put aside and was all set to upgrade until reading all the 3G problems galore. Now I don't know what to do. Wondering if the Steve Jobbers may be listening to the wrong people. I feel like I'm standing there watching two speeding trains going at each other head on. Whats the general consensus out there. Do I stand here and watch the train wreck, or head down to the Apple store and go for it.?

I waited on the original iPhone because I wanted faster data connection. I'm glad I waited, I've been very happy with the performance of the iPhone. The 3G speed has been great in comparison to EDGE. This not to say I don't have any 3G issues, but almost all of it can be attributed to what I believe is tower overloading. I live near Fenway Park in Boston, and I can tell you my data speeds are awful when there's a game. But that's not all that suprising as additional 30,000 people cram into one square block. Since updating 2.0.2, I've had better (and more frequent) transitions from 3G to EDGE. These transitions are what some users are complaining about, the inability to hold onto a weak 3G signal. In the case of phone calls, I rather switch than drop a call. As for data if I really need a 3G connection, I find that by toggling airplan mode off and on usually allows me to lock into a stronger 3G signal as traffic ebbs. I'm still waiting to get my hands on another 3G AT&T handset and perform some tests. There's so much anecodotal evidence pointing different fingers at the network and the phone. Personally I'm leaning towards the published reports that indicate it's more a network issue (and a problem with non-update iPhonese). In the end I've been very happy with the phone, and it's performance. I just got back from vacation and didn't bother bringing my laptop - the phone was enough.

Depends whether you'll hate everyone who has the iphone 5 when it eventually comes out. Note, this is the ipad section of the ASC.

  • Should I buy the iPhone now or wait?

I'm indecisive about whether or not to buy the 3GS. I'm not sure how to gauge the problems cause everyone I talk to who has one loves it. A lot of people on this forum however are having repeated problems, even on multiple returns.
Are they gonna do a recall? Is it necessary? I'd just like some opinions to help me decide.
What are the pros and cons of waiting vs. buying now? Thanks.

Of course - this forum is expressly for people with problems - they sold a million phones the first three days - probably 3 million by now -- and there are 1564 problem topics - many duplicates and most simply failure to read the instructions
So the problems are miniscule compared to the number of phones sold - IMHO
    Mine works just fine BTW
Are they gonna do a recall?
No one here knows - and speculation about Apple policies os forbidden by the TOS
    Is it necessary?
No - a few hundred problems out of a few million phones delivered - why would you even ask?
What are the pros and cons of waiting vs. buying now?
If you buy now you have the latest neat phone now
If you wait you do not get it until later

  • Should I buy the phone now or wait for 2G?

Hello everyone, I bought the i-phone when it first came out. Returned it within 3 days, because the ring volume and speaker volume was too low for my ears. I keep stopping and asking i-phone users if there has been an upgrade, some say yes, but most say NO. How much has your volume improved? I love the phone and will get on the day the volume issue is fixed......All you i-phone users please give your thoughts on the volume and how many updates have there been to the software? Thanks

Ive had no problems with the volume. The speaker phone could be better, but plug in the headphones that come with, even with one ear in, i can hear in the middle of the city just fine. The volume for the rings has went up, plus now you can make your own custom ringtones which grab your attention pretty fast.

It is up to you. Based recent history you may have to wait until October 2014

  • When is the iphone 5s coming out? Is it this year 2013 or next year 2014 because I was thinking should I just get the iphone 5 or wait.

When is the iphone 5s coming out? This year or next year because I was thinking should I just get the iphone 5 or wait.

Since iOS 7 is due to be released in the fall I would say you would see a new iPhone at the same time.

  • If I have the iPhone 4, should I get the iPhone 5?

I got my iPhone 4 about a year or two ago and I wanna know if I should get the iPhone 5 or wait for the next legendary apple product to arrive because i've gotten mixed reviews. Some people say i should get it now and some people say i should wait. I understand that I can get alot of the new software when I download the new iOS 6, but when i think about it, most of the updates are for the 4S, not the four. So is it worth the upgrade or should I wait? Please help me and please dont be mean thank you

As was said already, ultimately your decision, but here are some things to consider.
First, I think the antenna issue is exaggerated, but I would recommend a case. This will minimized the issue and, frankly, I think it is risky not to use a case. The glass on both sides make them slicker than others. Also can help in case you do drop it, but it is still going to come down to how it hits and how hard.
Second, the proximity sensor has been a big problem for a bunch of people - screen comes on even when against your ear and then your cheek activates buttons!
4.1 seemed to help most, though some said it got worse. 4.2.1 has solved at least one problem with it, based on my testing and others have said it solved the issue. Still, I've seen about 5 posts from people who say the problem remains - but compared to the past, that is really low.
Finally, some people have said phones manufactured starting with week 46 are better. Don't know if that is true (we heard similar things at least twice before only to have it turn out not to be so). However, I did get to actually check a week 46 phone today, running a standard test I do. It was the first phone I've tested that passed the test! Could be a fluke, but I'm hoping to find more to check.
To see what the week of manufacture is, check the serial number. First two numbers are the factory number. Third number is the last digit of the year (zero for now). The 4th and 5th number are the week of manufacture.
While I can't guarantee week 46 has solved the problem, I'd probably still, if I was buying now, insist upon having something at least that new.

  • For the 2012 Macbook Pro 13" should I get the 2.5GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5 or the 2.9GHz Dual Core Intel Core i7?

I am a high school student and I am getting my first Macbook Pro. I am not really sure which 13 inch Macbook Pro model I should get. My budget is kind of tight, but I think that I can afford any one of the models but I dont want to spend any money that I dont have to spend. Usually on a day to day basis, I use the web brower, watch movies that I have downloaded, and write a lot of papers. I also sometimes use Photoshop, and while I do not play a lot of games, I do want to have the option if I decide to later when I go to college. The larger hard drive size on the Core i7 model does not really matter to me because I dont plan using more than 500GB. I will be upgrading the ram to 8GB if I get the Core i5 model and it comes standard on the i7. Also, I need this computer to last me for 3-4 years so I want something that will still seem relatively fast a few years down the road. Lastly, while I would prefer getting the Macbook Pro due to its cheaper price and ability to upgrade the hard drive later, I also am considering the Macbook Air Core i7 model, mainly because of the faster ssd and the higher resolution screen. I dont really use the optical drive, so loosing it would not be a big deal. The same goes with the Firewire port or the Ethernet port. What would you guys suggest I get. A Macbook Pro or a Air and if the Pro, should I get the Core i5 or the i7?
    Thanks

If you're planning on keeping it for long term.
    Go with the i7 2.9GHz.
It's a $300 difference but with that you get; the RAM, Hard Drive and Processor upgrade.
Since you want it to last before you decide to either upgrade or buy a new one.  The i7 2.9GHz is a good choice.
Do remember that Mountain Lion is around the corner and other software get's updated to and wants more CPU power and more memory.
Nothing is wrong with the i5 2.5GHz either.  You'll just have to upgrade the RAM sooner in case 4GB isn't enough for you.
    Put it this way:
    i5 2.5GHz has 3MB L3 Cache Memory
    i7 2.9GHz has 4MB L3 Cache Memory
Now, you're also thinking about the MB Air, a very nice notebook which is light, portable and has a better resolution than the MB Pro 13 inch.  You have to however, keep in mnd that the RAM and Hard Drive in the MB Air is not user upgradeable and has no optical drive.

  • In platform transition: should I get the Mac or PC version?

I am currently working off of a PC, but will be buying a Mac next year May or so.  So ultimately I want a Mac-compatible version of Adobe Creative Suite, but need to work with something on my PC for the next few months.  Should I get the PC version now, and then just continue using that version on the Mac via Bootcamp, Fusion, Parallels, etc.?  Or is there a way where I could get the PC version now and switch to a Mac-compatible version in May?
And is it even preferrable to have the Mac-based version over the PC-version when I do buy a Mac?
I am planning on using the CS for front-end web development (wireframing in Illustrator / Photoshop) and some marketing collateral.
Any comments or suggestions would be great.
    Thank you!

The simplest way of accomplishing what you want to do is via a subscription to the Adobe Creative Cloud which covers usage on both platforms. For example, download and install on your Windows system now. If you go with a Macintosh later on, simply download and install on the Macintosh. You get two activations and unless you decide to decommission the Windows system, you don't even need to deactivate on the Windows system. Obviously, if you discontinue use of the Windows system, you should deactivate on that system. The subscription also will get you the latest version of the software as it is released without subsequent upgrade costs.

  • Should I Get the Iphone 3g

I have been looking at getting the Iphone 3g over the past couple of weeks. What I really want is an unbiased opinion. I know it may have some trouble with 3G. And I know it may have a few minor software gliches(which I am pretty sure Apple will fix).
Also which should I get the 16gb or the 8gb version.
    Thanks

A lot of "depends" type questions...
personally, I say yes. Ultimately depends on how you wish to use the phone?
3G: Call AT&T Customer Svc and have them verify the level of 3G network support in your local area, or your frequented business or otherwise travel locations are. Just because they show you being in "blue" 3G zone, doesn't mean your signal strength will be as strong as another "blue" area 4-miles away. My 3G signal vacillates from No Svc to two bars from minute to minute standing in the same spot. The more users on 3G network will slow your download speed.
BATTERY: No complaints here based on my regulated use of 3G, PUSH; Locate Me; Wi-Fi usage; send and receive emails/SMS messages, GPS and internet access. First 24-hours I owned the field I spent a lot of time familiarizing myself with all the features and I ended up with 19-hours battery time. Since then I avg 24- 48 hours before recharging.
My Personal usage: I use my 3G as a "tool", only using features as required. I work a lot from my home office; therefore, don't require PUSH for email/SMS since I have my laptop and local ISP for internet and email access. Being at home and when traveling in the local area I "know where I am for the most part" so GPS is not required. Having my business phone there, most of my calls are on it and not my iPhone unless I receive a call from a colleague or family member on my iPhone. I do leave my BlueTooth turned on at least 8-hours a day even in my home office. I turn PUSH on when I am expecting important emails from clients or colleagues when away from my home office which is at least 1-hr per day... when I am not expecting anything of importance and away from my office, I leave it on FETCH at 15-30 min intervals since there is nothing that important that can't wait and if it is, they can call me to get my attention. I use my camera on occasion (twice in two weeks I think... and have rare needs for video capabilities). Sending pix via SMS or txt can be convenient at times, but depends on the priority and urgency you put into sending this to someone who may not even have their wireless device turned on or close by? I also have not experienced the same concerns as others on this Discussion site.. but their user scenarios may significantly differ from mine. I don't use Micro Soft Exchange server, nor Mobile Me... since my syncs etc can wait until I get to my MacBook Pro and flip on iTunes. I purchased the 16Gig and glad I did. I do have around 200-tunes on it and maybe keep 2-3 movies on it. I listen to my iTunes a couple hours a day on average and talk time is 2.5 to 3.5 hr's a day. I was at the airport two days ago and jumped on their Wi-Fi to jump on the internet to track a colleagues flight coming in and checking news and had my 3G on PUSH for emails for a couple of hours and barely noticed a drain on my battery. Again, I use it as a tool for those features I need at the time and glad I had my 3G. A guy next to me had his BlackBerry open to the web and he glanced over to see the rich HTML download I had on Flight Aware and commented on how he wished he had the robustness of the 3G. On the flip side, the iPhone isn't perfect when it comes to Business usage on a regular basis. It meets my needs and if I want, I can use my company's MS Exchange server, etc... or even Mobile.Me... I just choose not to at this time. I did come over from Verizon Wireless... and I am not convinced AT&T's network (EDGE or 3G) is as reliable. I have had 4-dropped calls in area's I have never had issues with in 7-yr's with Verizon... but AT&T so far have been very good about credits. If this continues on a regular basis before my 30-days ends, I may have to consider returning to Verizon? 3G is still being rolled-out, so I am hoping its coverage and network tools improve to handle the additional user volume's. I don't care which phone you use on 3G, it will still have the same issues and burn battery life quickly if you choose to live on 3G... surf the net or use GPS to go to local grocery store, etc. It isn't a toy, its a tool to be used when you need it.

  • I did a backup from my 3G and want to get the backup now on my iPhone 4, but the backup from the old 3G is not shown as an option to configurate. How do I get the information on my new phone?

I did a backup from my 3G and want to get the backup now on my iPhone 4, but the backup from the old 3G is not shown as an option to configurate. How do I get the information on my new phone?

First, back up your old iphone manually:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your old phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.
About backups and what's saved: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
How to back up and restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
How to download apps for free again:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
After that, connect your new phone and let iTunes set it up. iTunes will detect the old 3G backup and ask you, if you want to use it to restore the info on your new iphone. If you agree, all settings and data will be present after the process is finished.
This is also explained in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137

In Receiver File Adapter you can set under 'Adapter-Specific Message Properties'
    check Use Adapter-Specific Message Properties
check Fail on Missing Adapter Message Properties
