Should I go ahead and buy my 17inch MBP ?

Here's my situation, need MBP for my business. I'm a CPA who needs windows to run tax and acct'ing software. Was going to buy 17inch MBP 2gig ram ..., parallels, and windows xp.
Is there any good reason to wait ? Will core 2 duo mean anything for me as far as performance ?
Thanks

Core2Duo chips generally provide 10% better performance than the equivalent CoreDuo, they also generate more heat. I suspect that one reason behind Apple's hesitation in launching a new MacBook Pro immediately is a rethinking of the cooling mechanisms and, as such, I am inclined to believe that we won't see a new MBP until January. If you need one now, buy it now. You won't be disappointed. I run windows in parallels daily for working with Oracle and usually just suspend it along with OS X when I shut my lid. Works fine.

Yea I would have to say wait until the release of IOS 5, because the phone will probably run it a lot smoother. I mean go ahead and buy the Iphone 4 if you are dying to have it, because you can just update it which is no big deal at all, but it would be the smarter thing to wait for the new updates.
And the networ issue as far as I am aware is fixed on the Verizon iPhones, so it really depends on which service you have.
    - correct me if i am wrong
Have to disagree here, Apple have not even announced an iphone 5, it is pointless to speculate that we will see one or not see one until Apple actually releases a statement. ios was built and tested on the iphone 4 so there will not be any slowdown or laggyness compared to a phone that has not been released yet.
If we are advising potential apple product buyers then we should not be putting them off buying a iphone 4 on speculations alone. Just because apple have for the last few years released an iphone every june/july does not mean then have to stick to this approach.
Apple have not issued any statement regarding an iphone 5, until this time it does not exist, only in heresay on the internet.
Any one looking to get an iphone 4, to you i would say waiting until ios 5 is released is a personal choice, no matter if you wait or not you will be able to update via itunes. One way or another in the future you will have to do an ios update via itunes whether this is the 5.0 software or 5,2,1.
Please note that Apple are very closed mouthed about new hardware releases and potentially a new iphone could be round the corner, however there is no evidence to suggerst this, i.e Apple have not even mentioned an iphone 5 this year anything you hear towards the contrary is media spin thus far and speculation.
ios 5 was built and tested to work seamlessly on iphone 4, the beta software released to developers is being tested on iphone 4. Please do not listen to people telling you that the iphone 4 will not run this ios as well as a phone that does not exist yet. When iphone 5 launches it will most likely have dual processors and not until its launch will the next gen apps start appearing.

  • Should i go ahead and get the iphone 3gs or should i wait

i want to get one but all the talk about the screen problems and the heat problems is scaring me away...should i just take my chances or should i wait

Ditto what everyone else has responded. Also, you shouldn't go by what you read here. Most of what you read here will be complaints about hardware, software issues, etc. People that don't have issues are not represented well here only because, why post on a support forum when you have no problems?
Anyway, take what you read here with a grain of salt. But like another poster said, if you wait until ALL the bugs are taken care of, you're gonna be waiting a long time. I love my iPhone. I'm thankful and lucky that I haven't experienced the issues most people on here have been experiencing. I've had an iPhone since the first generation and have been blessed with good iPhones. But then again, I think the majority of the iPhone consumers have as well.

  • Given 2G iPhone. Should I sell it and buy 3G Version?

My father upgraded to the 3G and gave me his older 2G version. I've noticed that the 2g is still being sold on craigslist and ebay for prices over $300. I've thought it might be a good time to sell it and pick up a 16gb 3G. What do you think?
I've seen a number of negative posts about the iPhone on the 3G network being really inconsistent and lousy reviews of AT&T's service and cost. On the other hand, I've also heard rumors that there is a bug in the iPhone 3G which is causing the problem. There's also another rumor of a new 32gb version coming out in December.
    Any opinions?
    Thanks, Geoff

I was on "the fence" about whether or not to get the 3G or not since I like the original IPHONE. Although, I wanted the faster 3G and the additional coverage the 3G may give me, I didn't want to spend the extra $. Last week I learned about NEXTWORTH.com. NEXTWORTH.com will buy your old IPODS and IPHONES. You can find out what they will offer you by going online to NEXTWORTH.com. After I found out they would offer me a good price for my "old" IPHONE, I ordered a new 16GB Black and sold the original IPHONE to NEXTWORTH.com.

  • Should i go ahead and play with my new 16 gig 3g or wait...

i got it saturday and its still nib. i didn't mess with it or even intend to use it till my contract with verizon was up. now all the hype and finally 3gs has a confirmed release date i have it safely tucked away in the box waiting for june 19th so i can exchange it... i want to mess with it and get to know it better, but do not want to develop feelings for it because i will replace it with a new 3gs if my store doesn't sell out of them.

  • Right time to buy a new MBP?

I am looking to buy a new MBP, but I was wondering if the time is right? Are they about to release a new model or should I go ahead and buy one now?

Only Apple knows when new models will be introduced and they only will tell on the day of release.  If the current crop of models fulfill your needs, purchase one.  If not, you are welcome to wait but you will not know for how long.
    Ciao.

SHOULD I KEEP THIS OR BUY ANOTHER ONE WITH 64 bit  I WANT TO USE ADOBE cs3, and will upgrade to CS4  soon.  i use primarily dreawweaver and i want to learn graphics and want to do tons of multitasking

Seems like you have very much overkill in certain areas and not enough in others. If you will be running Dreamweaver, you don't need a lot of RAM! If, on the other hand you will be using Photoshop, you need a lot of RAM. I've been using Photoshop since 1992 and the more RAM the better, up to about 6 GIGs, then it really doesn' make much of a difference. As for the Graphics cards, not sure why you need 2?? I use Photoshop professionally and have never needed 2. As for the RAM, the graphics cards have their own RAM built in and it should not rob from you system. I use a Quad processor HP running Vista 64 bit. Photoshop flys, as do my other programs. However, I will tell you, if you change to 64 bit, be prepared to upgrade most all of your software, and on top of that, a lot of software is not capitable with 64 bit at this time. I played Hell getting my system set up running 64 bit. If you are not going to be using Photoshop, which is RAM hungry, you do not need more that 4 gigs of RAM.

  • Is my iMac now useless as i have installed lion and i am no longer able to run cs2 photoshop and illustrator as this is all i use my mac for they should make this clear before buying it i can't afford the latest version of cs2

is my iMac now useless as i have installed lion and i am no longer able to run cs2 photoshop and illustrator as this is all i use my mac for they should make this clear before buying it i can't afford the latest version of cs2 and cant believe what a waste of money it is.

The newest version of CS2 is CS5. And it was made very clear that these applications would not run in Lion. Not only by Apple, but on all sorts of communities and websites. It has been a long time coming - PowerPC apps were outdated six years ago. Lion does not support Rosetta, and therefore not PPC apps.
you have to options. Go back to Snow Leopard or upgrade your software. (MS Office 2004 and older will not run either).
    Cheers

I have Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 ,I want to buy the updated operating system that puts iMessage and Facetime on my Macbook Pro. What should I search for, and then purchase, in the App Store?

FaceTime can run in the version of OS X that you currently have. To get Messageyou need Mountain Lion. The protocol used by Messages is iMeassage.
The question is does your MBP meet the specs for Mountain Lion.
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space

  • Attempting to watch a video on a social media site, I get a response you must upload a later version of Flash.   Is there an Apple alternative, or another alternative, or should I just go ahead and download the Flash.

Attempting to watch a video on a popular social media site, I'm asked to download a Flash Media upgrade in order to view.   Is there an Apple alternative, or another alternative, or should I just go ahead and download Flash, but will it still take as long as it used to, to play?

Adobe Flash Player version 11.1.102.55 is the latest and it works fine for me on several Intel Mac's.
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Won't make your download speed any faster, but should play the content in question.

  • Can't deal with these kernel panics... Should I cave and buy a new SSD?

    Specs: OSX.8.2 / ADATA SX900 256GB SSD / 15in Mid-2010 MBP / No longer under AppleCare
    Problem: Intermittent kernel panics
    What I believe:
    - Source of issue is SSD
         - Took laptop to Apple and 3rd party Apple Certified Specialist, both showed clean ext hardware tests except for SSD, but could not pinpoint issue.
         - Problem travels with drive from body to body.
    - ADATA Firmware/Sandforce SSD does not play with OSX.8.2
         - Kernel panics are not patterned. Never point to specific recurring processes/threads... almost always background/native operations (windowserver, Finder, iTunes, etc). Never during overheating or high graphics/CPU stress. Rarely—but not never—during 3rd party operations.*
    - It is NOT my RAM
         - Reset PRAM, no change.
         - Memtest clean.
Other things I have done to try to be proactive:
    - Clean re-install of OS.
    - Erased disk, partition. Repaired both before reinstall of OS.
I am still experiencing the kernel panics and it is making it impossible for me to work. Should I cave and buy an OCZ SSD? Thanks in advance.
*I am not pretending to be an expert at deciphering panic/thread crash reports, but I believe I have done enough research to get the gist and to have seen a pattern if there were any. If you would like me to post my most recent reports, I would be happy to!

ok, so i bought a imac 27 about 4 months ago, and now they release a new one!  ****... So my question is, should I sell this one (which by the way is the i5 2.8 with 1 gb 5750 and 4gb ram) and buy the new imac 27 i5,or keep the one i have and buy more ram. I mostly use my computer for photoshop cs5 and illustrator cs5 for graphics out put as well as surfing the web and music.
Please give me you thoughts on what I should do!!  Thanks  lot!

The new iMac is about 25% or so faster than your current iMac(comparable model would be the 3.1ghz version). There are a couple of things that you will benefit from such as the dual Thunderbolt/Mini Display ports/ which may help with multitasking. The video card in the new iMac again the comparable model being the 3.1ghz is a lotttttttt better than the current one that you have. So thinking of the long run those few things may be beneficial for you to upgrade(but it depends on what is important to you).
I had the 2.93ghz i7 version that I just bought in March this year and I turned around and sold it about a week before the new iMac's were announced. I got about $1600 for it, yeah I took a loss but to me it was worth it because my new iMac performs that much better. Now keep in mind I went from i7 to i7...3.4ghz i7 with the 2gb video card. Now I have dual thuderbolt/mini display ports. I have noticed significant gains in my video editing and also in my gaming. So to me it was definitely worth the upgrade!
One last thing, I would not have sold my 2.93 i7 and then bought the 3.1ghz i5, the big reason is because HT(hyper threading), it's only on the i7 model(3.4ghz)... If you take a look at some of the bench marks on engadget, maclife, macrumors, macworld, ****Barefeats.com(they really get into benchmarking)*** you will see charts that will help you make a better decision.
In closing I would say look into it, if you can get a good price out of your current iMac to put toward a new iMac then do it. Like others have mentioned to you, tech changes and Apple will change the tech in these machines next year or do a speed bump later this year or so. One last thing if you go from the 2.8 i5 up to the 3.4 i7, you would definitely see the difference (HT is a must especially for programs that utilize it. You can go to my youtube channel(mob1278) and take a look at my geekbench results.... my 2.93 i7 scored around 10500-11000(8gb ram)...my 3.4 i7 scores from 12700-13000 with 4gb ram....so yeah as you can see big difference. Basically the 3.4 i7 would perform similar or just under a 2.4ghz 8core 2010 Mac Pro which runs you about $3500 with no monitor.... it's your money spend it how you want....and Lion is only going to push it even more when it is released!

If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then see if this user tip helps : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4551
e.g. you can try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management , and then try Apple ID Account Security
or try ringing Apple in your country and ask to talk to the Accounts Security Team : http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

I've got tiger and I want to buy snow leopard for it. should I do it or buy leopard instead?

The only operating system you can upgrade to is OS X 10.5 Leopard. Snow Leopard requires an Intel processor, which the Powerbooks don't have. I confirmed the other day that you can still buy Leopard from the US online Apple store at 800-MY-APPLE.
Before you update, be sure you download any updates to non-Apple software that may be needed to run under Leopard.
