Should I go back to 24in from my problematic 21.5in iMac?

I happened to swap my 24in iMac to one of the new generation iMacs about a week ago and have faced the problems that every other 21.5in & 27in user has come up against: slow performance after a few hours, slow internet connection etc.
As I am new to Apple, I have no idea what to do and from monitoring the forums vigorously, it appears that other users have no clue what to do about it either - sure, there has been temporary fixes but after spending ove £1000 on a machine, you want it to permanently function as expected!
I just spoke to the fella at my local Apple store and he has informed me that as of yet, Apple are aware of the problem but have not issued a fix. He also informed me that they are still selling the previous 24in model (which I had before) for lower prices.
Sure you face a drop in processor, graphics card and hard drive space but at least it was the final update and was fully functioning when taken off of the shelf.
So what do you experienced Apple bods think? Should I return to old faithful? Or should I just wait around in case Apple send out an update?
OR...should I swap my existing 21.5in for another and hope that the one that I had was a dodgy one on the production line?!
Some advice for a nooB would be appreciated!!

I too have experienced all these problems.
Yes, it is frustrating, and shouldn't really be expected. The machine is, at times, slower than my 24" 2.4Ghz imac (2 years old) that is has replaced.
I am not too concerned just yet, as I am sure it is nothing more than a driver or software fix that should be forthcoming soon.
It may, of course, also be down to the fact that I 'migrated' from my time machine backup to the new machine - perhaps something is there that is causing these problems. A fresh install may be a good idea but I will only do that if i have to - it is quite an undertaking to reinstall everything !
I will start to get a bit more anxious if this goes on for weeks and weeks without any word of a fix. Hoping that wont be the case.
Oh the joys of being an early adopter of new shiny things!

Hi.
I shoot in 1080i50. I use FCE4, export quicktime movie and burn using Toast on dvd with BR option. When I play the dvd on my Blue Ray player, the video looks stunning on my TV.
I am wondering, if I buy imovie 11, import 1080i, and export it at 1080, burn it using Toast. WIll I get the same results as when I use FCE4, or will I have problems with interlacing artifacts? (I had those problems using Imovie 09, and that was one of the reasons why I switched to FCE4)
I would really like the simplicity of Imovie, but not at the cost of quality loss.

I am getting really good results from 1920x1080i source and sharing to iMovie 1080P. I need to do some more testing to be sure. I have not tried Toast BluRay yet.
By the way, a 4 minute iMovie project takes about 1 hour to render in 1080P on my 2.8ghz iMac. So you can see why testing will take a while.

You need to upgrade to the next OS 10.6 Snow Leopard by purchasing the DVD online.

Thanks for the information! My sister gave me the MBP for my daughter with Leopard installed. I purchased Snow Leopard and installed it, then my daughter purchased Lion. So I do have all the installers. If iWork wasn't included with any of those, I guess my sister purchased it while running Leopard. I'll have to contact her. Thanks again.

First of all, I think the first time you sync an iPod that's formatted for Windows on a Mac, the sync process reformats it for Mac. You can check what it is now by looking for the iPod with Disk Utility. If it's Mac OS Extended, it's formatted for Mac already.
Also, there is no current iPod updater app these days. iTunes handles it through the Restore button. If you are not able to use the latest iTunes because of your Mac, I can understand. The latest version of iTunes should run with 10.3.9 or later, if the hardware can handle it.
You said the battery was low so let it recharge for a while.
You should also reset the iPod. It's part of the 5Rs, which you should go through as the starting point for iPod trouble-shooting.

When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.

I have a Mac mini and I just installed the Yosemite upgrade system and since then I can't connect to the internet anymore. I was using my computer also as a router for my home, abd after the upgrade my computer can't connect to the internet. It appears as it is connected to ethernet but no page can be load, and it appears the message that: this page cannot be displayed as the computer is offline. Why?? what means is offline?? And I also put the internet cable to my laptop and I share the internet, to see if it sees the wifi and the mac mini connected to the wifi but still can't connect to the internet, showing the same message as above.
So far I didn't see other problems with the new upgrads, I like the new look, but I believe is moving a bit slower and it takes too much to launch after I restart it.
My question is should I go back to Mavericks or anyone can help me with my problem?? I did reinstall 2 times the system
already and I check in disk utility couple of times...same problem, no Internet...or better say, "my computer is offline", as it says in safari window.
I really need help pleeeeeeease as I work from home and all my work is on that Mac Mini!!! And I need to downgrade to Mavericks can u please tell me how

You need to sign in when using Photoshop Elements 12 as it is the method of activation. If you sign out it deactivates that installation.

You should transfer any purchases from iphone regularly: File>Transfer Purchases , if they fail to be transferred when you sync.
You buy one and only one download. It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your purchases.
You can try contacting itunes support and asking for an exception, but they are under no obligation to allow.

Once again, KP is correct, but I just want to add that if you don't see the backup in the drop down menu on the summary page of iTunes when you choose the restore from backup option, then the backup is unfortunately gone. If you backup your computer, the iPad backup should probably be in that computer backup. I use Time Machine with my MacBook Pro and can access backups from months ago.
On a side note, I also archive backups from time to time. If you right click on a backup name in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>Devices (Windows) or iTunes>Preferences>Devices (Mac) you can save that backup or archive it. It will be date and time stamped. I have no idea why I do this to the degree that I do it, but I probably have 12-14 iPad backups archived in iTunes.

You can't restore to a backup that was taken on a device which has a higher version of iOS than on your iPad, you will have to update your iPad to 8.1.3 to be able to restore to it
You should be able to update your iPad via Settings > General > Software Update

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

my web application allows users to launch a web start window from the jsp page, after users enters some data in the web start page and press "OK", the data entered should be passed back server for process. i just have not much clue how to do this....

Use the java networking library to send a request to a url that takes the arguments you want to pass in.
Example:
URL url = new URL("http://yourserver/yourhandler.do?arg1=foo&arg2=bar");
HttpURLConnection conn = (HttpURLConnection) URL.openConnection(url);
... any output testing, etc...
conn.disconnect();It's not the prettiest, but it ought to get the job done.
You should probably (at least) use the BasicService to get the codebase back to the server that served up the jnlp file.
