Should I go with iWorks or MSoffice?

I need to know the advantages of installing iWorks over Microsoft Office for my new Mac. Most of my communication with documents, files.., will be with PC users and I'll need to change how I send attachments if I understand correctly. Share features of iWorks that will be better than I've been using with Office on my PC or any problems or suggestions people have experienced please. I don't know which program to go with. Thanks

Apple MacBook Pro 13" 2012 with OS Mountain Lion ships standard with iWorks?

We recently purchased an Apple MacBook Pro 13" new, but from a recommended third party seller because we needed the 2012 version with OS Mountain Lion on it due to Pro Tools incapatability with Maverick. Our Apple consultant told us that all Laptops ship standard with iWorks, but our college student who we purchased it for, says it is not on the laptop & that no software was included except what was already installed on the laptop. Is this typical now with Apple, that you have to go & download your own software from the ITunes App store? And is there a purchaser's code or something showing that there is no additional charge for the software? Please help! These laptops are expensive & should come with the typical Apple tools & software! Also missing iPhoto, is this the same condition or did the seller rip us off?

Just a caution when reading this forum for ML information ...
Over 3 million have downloaded ML. Count the number of "complaints and b*tching" like some in this thread, and you will find the number in the thousands. Simple math will tell you how many users have enough of an issue, real or imagined, to actually say so. Most users who are happy are too busy just using it to say anything.
Now, as a reminder, you can download ML and load it on an external drive. That way you can play with it to see what issues *you* may have based on your specific uses. Of course external drives will respond more slowly than internal drives, but you should know if certain applications do not open.

Should i go with a dell or apple

ok i got a job this summer to save up for a computer for school this year i have been doing tons of research and i am almost positive i want a apple macbook but i want some honest opinions because every time i look people are always fighting over which is better now i have some questions about apple in a windows world will my computer connect to my linksys router, will i have tons problems with doing papers for school, is mac extremly easy to get use to, is the macbook good for doing photo and video editing and is it worth buying a macbook or should i go with a dell or shouls i wait a littlw while for upgrades to the macbook. Also price wise i plan on buying a Macbook 2ghz with 1gb of ram and a 80gb hard drive with iwork installed

Parker731, I was in the same situation as you just a few months ago. I'm a new college student, and I was making the choice whether to stick with Windows or whether to purchase my first Apple computer. Needles to say, I went ahead and purchased a Macbook, and it's awesome. I can honestly say that I'm never going back to Windows again.
Of course, it's not for everyone. However, based on your questions, it seems like a good choice. My 2.0GHz 80GB Macbook (similar to the one you're considering buying, minus the iwork) is great for photos, videos and school papers, and is extemely easy to get used to. I wouldn't know about the router, though; I use a netgear, but linksys should be okay.
You're hearing about a lot of problems in these forums, but don't let it discourage you. The people with the problems are the ones who turn to the forums for help, and they represent a small minorty of the millions of users worldwide.
Or, buying a Windows computer is always an option. Not exactly preferred in these Apple forums, but the choice is COMPLETELY YOURS! However, like most of the others here, I would recommend a Toshiba as opposed to a Dell. The price of the Dell right now might look attractive with all the school specials going on, etc. But if you go the windows route, Toshiba's quality is superior to Dell's and you'll be glad you picked it instead.

The iWork 9.2 updater is for those using Mountain Lion. Why do you want to update to Pages 4.2 if you're still running Lion? There is no benefit & many users have had problems.
That being said, you must make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. All three applications must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
Now, choose Software Update from the Apple menu, from System Preferences or launch the Mac App Store & click Updates. You should get a window similar to this screenshot. Now click the Update button next to iWork 9.2.

TimeSheets with iWork 09 possible?

Hi fellow Mac users.
I'm thinking of upgrading to iWork 09 but have quick question before ordering.
Is iWork 09 capable of calculating time in a way that allows for the easy creation of TimeSheets looking like this:

I basically want to create a TimeSheet where I can enter when work shifts starts and end, allowing iWork09 to do its number-crunching magic in the background, displaying weekly totals etc.
Is this possible to achieve with iWork 09?

Ok, I've downloaded the trial and am studying the Employee Schedule template that comes with it. However, if you take a look at cel C9, it references the time input in cels C7 & C8. The funny thing is that there isn't a single function in C9 that relates or can be found among the "Date & Time" functions in the "Function Browser"
I used the DATEDIF function to successfully determine the amount of days between two dates which I'm sure is useful in some cases but it doesn't really help me here because to determine the amount of time between the beginning of a work-shift (morning) to the end (sometine in the evening), one needs higher time resolution i.e. hours & minutes and not a large unit or method (d) as days.
Excuse my current lack of knowledge (I'm still learning this and admit to being a compltete noob at this stuff) but if I enter:
The Setup:
08:30 (for work start) in cell C2 and..
16:00 (for work end) in cell C4...
with one hour lunch break in C3...
How should the formula be entered in C6 to get the correct / desired result of 6.5 hrs?
Are there any of the new time funtions that come in handy here?

Keynote presentation sharing with iworks how can I share again?

Hi I have shared a presentation with iWork succesfully, if I try and share it again with a new audience I get a pop up asking me if I want to replace the existing presentation. I don't, as it takes so long and the original recipients then can't access it again. But it won't let me share the existing one. can anyone help? it's so frustrating!

On a side note. Some Vista, 7 machines can have strange file sharing issues. If you run into a problem connecting to a Vista or 7 machine with 10.5 or 10.6 then you should read the Microsoft document How to Enable the Windows Vista Network Map. Believe it or not this works if all else fails in sharing to a Vista or 7 machine.

Can I set up a bracket form with iWorks?

I need to be able to set up pedigree forms for my horse business. Can I do this with iWorks and if so, do I need the whole program or just a part of it?
If it has the capability to draw line of whatever length I choose and space the lines as I wish, I could set up a pedigree in that way.
I can set up a pedigree type form on Text Edit, but it is so plain looking and I would like to be able to put a picture on the document if possible.
If iWorks won't do this, can you recommend a program with a reasonable price that I could use for this?

This is either a Phone issue or an Electrical issue in your home.! when charging Do you always use the same electrical outlet? or did you try others..
You will know or should know if there are any issues with your other Electronics.. that you Plug into it..
If it is the s5 which it sounds like it could be then the Local Verizon store at there Discretion will determined if replacement is needed you have a 1 year Manufactures Warranty that covers for things like what your Describing I would take it too your local store see if they'll get you a Replacement or you may have to go through Samsung..

Sales Return: credit memo Should generate automatically with goods reversal

Currently we are using following system of Sales return.
VA01: (Order Type: RE) --> VL01N (Return Delivery) --> VL09 (Goods Reversal) --> VA01 (Request 4 Credit Memo or remove billing bloc) --> VF01 (Credit Memo)
But, now my client want a such configuration that entry of Credit memo should happen along with Goods Reversal (VL09) - Automatically. They don't want to carry out VF01 separately.
Reason behind it: Customers has credit Limit, Suppose a customer has a Credit limit of 5,00,000 and we have delivered the Material of same amount. It means all the credit limit has been used. But now He has returned the material of 2,00,000. But it will not affect the credit limit until we pass Credit memo.
Please suggest the required configuration and what we can do in such scenario. Thanks in Advance.

Again I can tell you that the process what you were following (reversing the goods receipt) is totally wrong and it will have a serious negative impact on inventory. Either you should not create a return delivery or take the stocks into parent plant. If you dont want to show in inventory, then scrap it which is a standard process.
Coming to the requirement, there is no standard way to achieve this. Check these threads where the same topic was discussed

I was finally able to successfully installed FP on my Mac OS 10.5.8 using the last trick shown below by Chris (Adobe Flash Player.pkg file). This, only after several (at least 10) attempts, and only after restarting my computer after downloading the install file. Thanks for the helpful post.

I know of three different Oracle XA drivers: WebLogic jDriver for Oracle XA, Oracle
OCI type 2 driver XA, and Oracle Thin tyoe 2 XA. Are there any other drivers
that I can use for Oracle 8.1.6? Which driver and which version should I use?
For example, can I use the Oracle 8.1.7 JDBC drivers with the Oracle 8.1.6 server,
or would the Oracle 9i drivers work with the Oracle 8i server? Which drivers
are faster, and which support more features? I assume that I should not use the
type 4 driver since I am not using an applet, but I don't know if there are bugs
in the OCI C library for Solaris or in the JDBC drivers that use it that prevent

Hi,
I think you can't use the 8.1.6 thin driver for XA, you would have to
use the OCI driver or 2PC-enable your datasource. AFAIK this has been
changed for 8.1.7

Thanks for your prompt reply. However, the sources you gave do not seem to apply exactly to my situation. I have attached some screenshots that show what the dialogue box looks like for a pdf download, and what my settings in the Apps panel of Options are. You will note in the first screenshot that I have checked the box to handle this file type automatically; however, the next time I try to download a file of that type, the same dialogue box appears looking exactly like the one shown, so checking the "automatic" option appears to do nothing. The files to be downloaded from my Gmail messages are not generic or altered file types - they are shown as pdf, doc, docx, etc. So while your intent was good, your post did not help. Thanks anyway.

Grant Bennet-Alder is right -- "the real answer depends on what work you expect to do with it, and with whom you expect to do this work". There are dozens of word processors for Mac, from the venerable Word to the no less venerable Tex-Edit+. It would pointless to start listing them all, when many of them might be either too little or too much for your needs.
