Should I have some kind of antivirus or walware on my iPad?

Hello there. I have an iPad third generation. It's a 16 gig. It's gotten a lot slower lately and has frozen up several times. I've had to shut it down hard a few times and twice it wouldn't do anything for awhile then I finally got it to power down. Is there any antivirus for iPad that I can use?

Currently there's no known virus affecting iPad as long as you don't Jailbreak your iPad.

  • Should I obtain some kind of antivirus software for my IPhone 5?

I just purchased an IPhone 5 and I'm a little concerned about picking up a virus online. Is there some sort of built-in antivirus software, or should I download something on my own? If I need to download antivirus software, are there a particularly good free program?

There are currently no known virii in the wild for an unjailbroken iPhone. As long as you don't hack your iPhone, you're fine.
There is no built in anti-virus but the way the system software is designed, it is extremely difficult for malware to be written for the iPhone.

  • Google maps have some kind of Java problem, won't load?

There is some kind of problem with Google maps suddenly not loading. I tried Google's fixes, but it's still bad. They say Skype figures into it, but I don't have Skype. This problem started on mine suddenly yesterday. I start to type a location in the box, and a little yellow "loading" box appears at the top, and then NOTHING HAPPENS.
    Anybody know about this?
    Thanks...

Thank you for that input. In my little room here, it's hard to tell which wire or cable is what, even tho I installed this stuff a couple years ago. I have Comcast Broadband, which has been real reliable.
This problem started just yesterday, and I don't THINK it's what you're idea is. I'll wait a while to see what else might happen on this.
    Thank you.

  • Should I have a separate apple store account for my work iPad?

I have a personal iPhone that I use for work - company pays for the service but I have an apple account for apps, music, etc.  I am now getting the first (work) iPad in the company - hard to believe, i know,-  and am wondering if I should create a new apple account just for work.  The ipad will have Verizon for the 3G service - my phone is at&t.
This is complicated by the fact that I am planning to sync both my iPhone and new iPad to our Microsoft exchange server and will have business and personal information on both devices.

    Hello, Ric,
That decision is pretty much between you and your company. If you're getting reimbursed for purchases you make for your work, you may be required by your company to have a separate account, perhaps paid by a company credit card, so that they can account for the purchases and retain ownership and control of them should you leave the company. Otherwise, there's no technical difference as to whether you purchase apps solely through your personal account or purchase work apps via a company account other than the complication of possibly having to sign into two iTunes Store accounts to obtain app updates.
Synching to an Exchange server isn't connected with an iTunes Store account, so that won't affect your decision.
    Regards.

  • Have some kind of virus or trojan horse -- dozens of spam messages are being sent out from my PC. Is there anything I can do?

The messages do not show up in my Sent folder. Many of them are sent to dead email addresses and the only way I know that this is happening is from the "failure to deliver" messages from the Mail Administrator.

  • Does Firefox have some kind of firewall??? Recently I can't print or connect to my work computer remotely. Two things I was always to do in the past.

Recently I can't connect to my work computer remotely and I can't print things even when I am using my desktop which is directly connected to the printer. If I go to Internet Explorer or AOL I have no problems but since I mainly use Firefox this has become a major problem.

I encounter similar problem. My TC detects my OKI printer which is connected to the TC via USB but I can't print unless I connect my printer to the TC via Ethernet. Would anyone know how to solve it. Thanks.

  • I think I have some kinda bug need a pro opinion

    Morning all.
So, I opened my Pro this morning and to my surprise/shock
    a) all my files were/are visually missing from my desktop but, when I opened my HD the files were their.
    b) my mail which I get through road runner. My junk file has a record 83, all of which had been rec'd and deleted over the past month or so.
    c) my inbox had 28 new e's, all of which once again were a blast from the past.
    d) my rss file had 31 from as far as november last year.
    e) my software update which I check once a week was loaded, as shown.
    f) I am now seeing this "New test pilot survey" on firefox Whether it's pertinent to my situation or not I don't know.
My girl who also happens to have a MacPro also running 10.6, coming in on the same road runner service, does not have any problems
I am hoping someone can give me a suggestion on how to handle this
    Thanks
    Gary

Actually Linc, I did check that I was working on my prefered disk, I then opened my other 2nd disks desktop while working off of my prefered disk, this is when I noticed the content included the screenshots I had created (shown in the first thread).
How, when I first opened my machine this morning, it opened on the other startup disk is beyond my thinking especially, when I did the restart and the startup disks flipped to the one I use 99% of the time.
I can see that there is not a bug problem, it makes sense that my email would go back and pick up old stuff and my screen would not show my files.
Hey, it was somewhat frustrating but, all's well now
    Tks

  • I seem to have some kind of virus. When I use the internet a pop up consistently comes up when I click any link, and on Facebook I get new ads put next to people's photos.

I need to know how to remove this virus for free.

  • Some kind of technical problems (like slow data processing)...

Some kind of technical problems (like slow data processing) with Leopard appears during the working in the local network.
OS Snow Leopard 10.6 is installed; including all updates, the computer I currently use is Mac Pro. So I have some kind of technical problems (like slow data processing) with Leopard during the working in the local network. (Windows network).
During the attempt to connect with network sharing (the computer is in the network) automounter process took approximately one minute.
Later on, after the automounter process is finished it’s working quite normally over remote computer, but when you try to automount again, everything starts from the very beginning.
The internet is working very well, it’s connected with domain, and everything is adjusted.
I use to ask our system administrator; maybe it is necessary to activate the some kind of protocol?
The OS Tiger is installed on the second hard disk, and it’s working well.
Maybe someone could help me, I try to find the similar problems, but I could not find them.
    Thanks//

    A couple of things.
First, thanks for the tips. I was starting to suspect the network might be an issue (bad nic, bad router, something).
But netstat -s was showing an average of about .15% packet loss. For a web server that seems to be a pretty good value so I'm not sure.
I did, however, ask someone else to look at the server because I'd spent the whole week on just server performance and was going out of my mind. This second pair of eyes really helped as he found that the pagefile for the server was set at 2mb!? Still trying to figure out how that happened. But we increased the pagefile to a much better value. There wasn't an immediate change in performance, but over time the server appears to have begun to respond better.
Occasionally I still get these 'lag spikes' but nowhere near what they were and the delay is much smaller as well, which is probably being caused by something else entirely (like bad programming on my part, hah).

  • Encountering some kind of audio error?

For some reason, PP crashes whenever check out my clips in my timeline with the audio enabled.
    ~~~
    Premiere Pro has encountered an error.
    [/Ironside/4.0/MediaCore/AudioRenderer/Make/Mac/../../src/AudioRender/AudioRenderContextCo nstructor.cpp-110]
    ~~~
If I disable the audio, I can check out any clip in my timeline with no problems.
Also, when I export my timeline as a video with audio, the audio sounds garbled up.  If I try to export the audio only as a wav file, it's also garbled up.
So, I'm assuming I have some kind of audio issue but don't know how to fix it.
    Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, this ARTICLE gives tips for places to check for Audio issues and settings, BUT it's mainly for the PC. I do not know how well, or how poorly, it will translate to Mac.
Also, some of the "locations" to check might be specific to pre-CS4 PrPro, so the syntax and the exact locations might have changed a bit in CS4.
If you can locate the problem, I'd really like to add a bit of Mac-specific instruction to that article, so please report back. I'm always looking for "fixes" on the Mac, as I know nothing about that platform. Luckily, we have been getting more Mac-users here, as of the X-platform re-introduction with CS3 and CS-4. Still, most of the "regulars" are on the PC, so we are often not the best sources for info for the Mac. Jeff talks "Mac-speak" much better than I do, and there are several users here, with multi-platform shops. They have been wonderfully helpful, along with the Mac-users.
I wish you luck, and hope that others can direct you more specifically, than I can.

The AppStore version of ClamXav does not have a real-time scanning capability, if you think you need that. You can download the full version from here, which is also free.
If you are asking if Sophos is free, the one downloaded from here is.
SInce you seem to be asking everybody, I don't recommend any particular one over the other. I have both installed on this computer along with VirusBarrier X5 and MacScan. I don't currently use any of them routinely, but they are here if I should ever need them. Real-time scanning is turned off, but I keep all but VB up-to-date (my VB subscription expired a few years ago).
Full disclosure: I do uncompensated tech support for the ClamXav Forum.

have a mac book pro and it has some kind of virus which opens unrelated windows. What do I do?

You may have installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
