Should I install additional software to my Data Guard system?
I want to a broker to my Data Guard system, Should I download and install additional software?
I don't think that there is any need for additional software.You need to set up broker files to make it come into action.Please see the docs for the Broker setup,

The only things I would download would be Perian that extends Quicktime, available here,

How to install the software without a data plan
Hi,
I just got the 8120 phone and did not buy the data plan. I tried to install the software and
am stuck at the Integration Options page.
I started with the Custom Setup -> and did not know what to remove because I do want the desktop and
the ability to sync up my address book using the usb interface. That brings me to the Integration Options
menu but I don't have any server to connect to or any Internet service to connect to. How do I move forward?

SandhyaI don;t have it in front of me at the moment but you can choose the typical or custom installation. You would choose the BlackBerry Internet Service I believe, then on the next screen you can choose your email client (if using Outlook , you would select Microsoft Exchange). After it's installed you can configure the synchronization options to sync when the device is connected to your computer.

How to install Additional Software Units or Usage Types in an Existing SAP
Hi.
We have a Netweaver 7.0 EPH1 with JAVA, EP and EPC intallation,but i need install additional usage type BI JAVA and NWDI.
Copy the downloaded SCAs in /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in and when execute JSPM - option Additional usage type installation, this not show usages type .
according to the installation guide, this is the procedure.
please help me.

Once you have correctly extracted and put the files in /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in, you need to run JSPM and select the option of additional usage types.
Next, select the desired stack from the inbox. Click Next.
JSPM shows the currently installed usage types and those of the new usage types in the stack, which are part of the active product on the system and all of their dependencies are fulfilled. They can have different status:
Available u2013 the usage type is already active in the system. These usage types are automatically skipped.
OK u2013 the usage type can be installed on the system. Specify whether to install or skip the usage type in the Action column.
Revise u2013 the usage type cannot be installed on this system. Click the Show Details button for more information. These usage types are automatically skipped.
Not Supported - the usage type is not supported by JSPM.
Can you tell us what is the status of the usage types visible to you? Are the new usage types having a different status or are they not completely visible at all? If that is the case, you may want to check whether the files that you have downloaded are correct or not and also check whether these are correctly extracted and placed in the right folder.

Should I install old software in my new Mac Pro, then upgrade?
I'm trying to transfer documents and apps from my PowerBook G4 to my new Mac Pro. I used Migration Assistant but it transferred only some files, no applications, no settings, even though I checked all those boxes. I've given up on MA. But here's the question: I have Office 2004, which I'd like to install so I can have Word on my Mac Pro, and then I would upgrade after installation. I've heard that pre-intel software can really slow down your intel computer. But what about starting with that software and then upgrading, so I don't have to pay for an entirely new MS Office? Same with Final Cut Studio. Any ideas about this would be appreciated!

MS Office 2008 is an upgrade, not an update. It does not replace Office 2004. It is a separate installation. It is like upgrading from Tiger to Leopard except 2008 does not replace 2004 as Leopard replaces Tiger. You purchase the entire 2008 installation like purchasing the Leopard upgrade, but can have 2004 and 2008 running on the same machine without partitioning. I have both installed on my iMac.

As far as I know, there is no discounted upgrade price from Office 2004 to 2008. I could not find it on their website anyway. I think to get Office 2008 you need to buy the Office 2008 installation disk.
I think (might be just me) Office 2004 running in Rosetta is slightly faster than the 2008 version. All the applications in 2004 launch faster. In Excel 2008, entries into cells are delayed by a fraction of a second but 2004 has instantaneous entry (perhaps MS in their infinite wisdom thinks the delay is a feature).
I am gradually changing over to 2008 only because it needs to be compatible with other computers in my office. If it weren’t for that, I would have stayed with Office 2004. Anyway, if you are going to buy Office 2008, you can install it and run it side by side with 2004 to see for yourself.
I’ve also seen posts here about MS Office 2008 having problems with the Spaces application of Leopard. If you use the Office Toolbox (formatting palette) it has bizarre behavior when using Spaces. -
Netinstall: install additional software using a script + AD domain join

I want to install Macs using NetInstall. I built an image using the System Image Utility.
It's a NetInstall Iamge and it looks like that:
Source Mac OS X 10.8. install disk
partition disk
enable automated installation
add packages and post-install scripts
customize package selection
create image
Instaling the OS works.
Now I want to do the following things.
- adding a script which installs a programm. it's a .sh script which runs different actions like unpacking a tgz and copying the unpacked files
To be honest, I have no idea how to add this to the installation
- rename the device (best with an ongoing number)
- adding an admin account
- joining the new device to the ad domain
Can anyone help me with this issues?

I can run the script on a mac manually and it works.
But when I add it to the netinstall, the accounts isn't there after the installation.

Once installed, in the tab "Herramientas" (sorry but i have it in spanish) you choose "Inicio" and them you pick CS5ServiceManager then you pick in delete option. Basically you are removing of the startup programs...

You're right, if the installation unable to create the user and folder in the node2 means... your suggestion is applicable but I crossed those phase... I'm in the phase of "Install Instance basics of J01".
Do you need to do the copy and paste method, eventhough we're in Install Instance basics of J01 phase.

Most irritating that I have to disable the possibility to download/install Chrome or other program when I only want to install Flash Player. If this continues I stop with downloading Flash Player and even will minimize the use of Adobe programs.

I saw that it was also downloading McAffe security software - without my approval. I was never asked to install additional software and I aborted the installation process.
This is absolutely abusive behavior and I will not tolerate this kind of behavior from any company, no matter how widespread their product may be.
I will also be contacting McAffe to let them know that I have a much lower opinion of their company than before for being complicit in this behavior.
It is amoral and should be criminal behavior to sneak additional software onto someone's computer like this. Shame on you, Adobe. This is worse than having opt-in boxes for additinal products already checked.
I am disgusted and Adobe should be ashamed - but I'm sure that it is not. -
When I receive some video files in my email and I go to play them, it says that I need additional software because Quicktime cannot play the attachment. I have included the actual "error" message.
The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands.You may need to install additional software to open this type of file.
Not sure what else to install.As you are running a very old version of OS 10.3 it is difficult to answer your question, simply because the various applications and add-ons you need may not work now with that old system.

You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2009-001 (and for Tiger only, 2009-002 and 003). (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
And there is an additional kid on the block: SilverLight. Microsoft has created their own version of what a replacement for Flash could be. You can read more about it here:

So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards) if you are using a PPC Mac, but even this will not work with Safari 4. Unable to get Quick time movies to play on my imac. This is the error message I allways get.

How to install printer software with no CD player
I've installed the HP Envy 5530 e-all-in-one series software on my laptop and can print successfully, but I cannot connect to the device for scanning. I installed software on my laptop using a download link from the HP site. In my control panel setup it indicates that the HP software was a basic install and that I should re-install the software from my CD to enable all features. I have the CD that came with my printer, but my laptop doesn't have a CD player.
How can I get the complete software installed on my laptop so I can both print AND scan?Simply download the 'full featured software and drivers' from the HP web site. Now install.

BioSRC: a Ports-like system for installing bioinformatics software
While this might not be of great use for people administering their own Arch Linux system, I do know that there are at least a couple other bioinformaticians around these parts who might find it useful anyway. Many bioinformaticians use shared computing resources (clusters), so they do not have administrative permissions to install software system-wide. Instead, we manually install software to our home directories or shared drives. Unfortunately, bioinformatics software is usually released by biologists, not software engineers, so the packaging standards, if there are any, generally leave something to be desired. Often some amount of manual work needs to be done to compile and install the software.
I got tired of dealing with this on a personal level and in our group we were setting up a lot of software to be shared between us. So, I hit on the idea of adapting another package that I maintain, GSRC, which uses the Ports-like GARstow system to install GNU software, to produce a dedicated system for easily installing bioinformatics software, called BioSRC.
BioSRC includes many common bioinformatics tools (under pkg/bio), as well as general tools that are useful in analysis pipelines (pkg/tools), bioinformatics-related libraries or library-dependencies of other BioSRC software (pkg/libs) and the latest versions of common programming languages/environments (pkg/dev...really handy if, like me, your cluster only has ancient versions of Python). New packages are being added as fast as I can and I welcome requests (note that I'm only adding properly licensed free and open source software...no "academic use only", license-free, or otherwise proprietary software will be included in BioSRC).
Currently there are no formal releases but rather you should just clone the Git repository. Setting up is simple:
$ git clone git://gitorious.org/biosrc/biosrc.git
$ cd biosrc
$ ./bootstrap
$ ./configure --prefix=/foo/bio-software
$ make install
The last step is optional and just installs the documentation ("info biosrc") and a biosrc script (see below).
After that, any software can be installed easily to your chosen directory, /foo/bio-software in the above example, with Make:
$ make -C pkg/bio/ncbi-blast install
This will fetch the package, verify its checksums, extract it, configure it, build it and finally install it. Under your install prefix, packages are first installed to the "packages" directory and their contents are then symlinked into the standard locations under the prefix (i.e. ${prefix}/bin/bar will be a link to ${prefix}/packages/foo-1.0/bin/bar). Installing a new version of a package does not uninstall the old version; only the links are replaced. Thus, if you still need to use the old version for whatever reason, it remains available in the packages directory.
To make your life even easier, the biosrc script automates a lot of stuff for you, allowing you to install, uninstall, search, display info, etc from any directory:
$ biosrc search alignment
$ biosrc info hmmer
$ biosrc install ncbi-blast

People ranging from system experts to housewives install Adobe software all the time, but most of the times this occurs under very stressfull situations like: an opreating system reinstall or just after unboxing a brand new computrer. People does not come to Adobe website to browse and see if they like something, they come because they are unable to make another piece of software work, lot of them come frustrated or in a hurry, and they do not notice the check box, it is intentionally designed to pass unoticed. Even experts hit "download" without any further reading, just becuase Adobe was believed to be a serious and reliable company. But this kind of practices deminishes your credibility and image. I think, having the checkbox checked by default is not a nice practice, in fact I consider it unethical and fraudulent. A honset company would make very sure to have a checkbox like this cleared by default.
I used to trust blindly in companies like yours, because I considered them honest and ethical, but sadly this changes everything.

I think The Data Guard Broker is an easy and efficient way to manage a Data Guard configuration. The Data Guard Broker provides us with two efficient tools: EM Console and DGMGRL. We can do everything we want for Data Guard system.

The thing is GUI tool itself is also program that need some one to manage. The developer of such tools cannot take care unlimited possibilities in the real world.
Just check how many threads in this forum about why emca, dbca and EM console not working.
Being a DBA, we should understand the underlying technology that driven the system. It's like driving a car. A regular customer could say I don't care about mechanics of a car. As long as it's running, that's enough. But we are not regular customer, we suppose to be the auto repair mechanician in Oracle world. We could enjoy driving a car, but at same time we should know why and how it's working.
