Should I install bootcamp before doing a system migration?

I have a new macbook pro I am setting up and an older one with bootcamp and parallels installed.  Should I install bootcamp before I migrate my files or does it not make a difference?

You can install Boot Camp whenever you want. It will be the same if you do it before or after migrating your data because it doesn't affect to Boot Camp

    I just broke my own rule I gave up waiting for BC2.1 to appear in Apple Software Update on my other MBP running XP-Pro so I downloaded it and installed it manually. It worked fine with no problems and now XP is running with BC2.1, and ready for SP3 which I shall wait for.
    I cannot guarantee that my success is typical, but I am very careful with my computers and software, and it seems to pay off.

  • Bootcamp Question? Should I update bootcamp before installing Vista SP1

    Hi,
    I am about to install Vista SP1 on iMac, Leopard 10.5.4.
    About a month back, there was a bootcamp update that had been posted on support download website. The question is; Do I need to install the Update before installing Vista or is that needs to be done after the installation of Vista?
    Thanks for the help,

    The update is consists only of new device drivers for Windows XP and Vista. There are different updates depending upon whether you install 32-bit XP, 32-bit Vista, or 64-bit Vista. So Windows must be installed first, the original drivers included on the Leopard DVD should be installed, then you can install the update in Windows.

    What is the install process for Bootcamp/Parallels?
    I have a new MBP being delivered today and need to install Windows for one program. What is the process to install a VM?
    I heard that I should install Bootcamp first, then install Parallels to the Bootcamp partition. Any advice? Thx.

    I guess I shold explain more about what I am doing.
    I will be running a CRM program (Windows Based), and a Order Entrry program (Windows Based) (Memory Hog) all the time. Along with this, I will have Lotus Notes for Mac and Mac Mail open all the time.

  • Why should be install CI before Database Instance

    Hi friends,
    <b>Why should be install Central Instance before Database Instance??</b>

    Hi
    At first, Database Instance Installation doesnot mean that we are installing the database software. Aa we know that Database software must be installed first before starting SAP installations.
    In SAP Database instance installation, the required Database schema is created for the SAP Central Instance we have installed first and all the configurations between SAP and Database are done at this process.
    If we try to intall the DB Instance before CI then it would give error because for DB CI is prerequisite.
    Technically, whole of the file system have to be configured before schema creation from which SAP would fetch the data and informations.
    Hope this would help you in clarifying some doubts.
    Thanks

  • Install bootcamp before or after installing lion

    I'm currently on 10.4.6 (snow leopard) and want to install bootcamp to run windows. I've made a bootable clone with ccc to an external hd. I also want to update to lion. What should i do first:
    a) make the partition in my hd and install bootcamp
    b) install lion and re-ccc my hd to an external hd
    thanks!

    If you're going to be installing Windows XP or Vista, you must do so before upgrading to Lion. If not, do it afterwards.

  • I have iphone5.  should i install ios8 before starting to use iphone6

    Should I install ios8 on iphone5 before syncing my new iphone6 which has ios8

    There's no need to do so, but you should make an iTunes or iCloud backup first.
    You can restore a backup from an older iOS device to a newer iOS device (i.e., I can restore an iPhone 3GS backup that was using iOS 6.1.6 to an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.2).
    If this wasn't possible, then people would never be able to upgrade from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 6, for example, and still have all their data.

  • Should I install JMF before my program?

    Before installing JMF, I run JMFInit and got this ...
    java -cp jmf.jar JMFInit
    DirectSound Capture Supported = false
    JavaSound Capture Supported = true
    JavaSoundAuto: Committed ok
    After I installed JMF,I got this...
    java -cp jmf.jar JMFInit
    DirectSound Capture Supported = true
    DirectSoundAuto: Committed ok
    JavaSound Capture Supported = true
    JavaSoundAuto: Committed ok
    Found device Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32)
    Querying device. Please wait...
    and UnInstall JMF, It looks like before,
    I develop a program for audio via RTP,
    and just copy jar file for my program,
    but according this result, I can not get MediaLocator "dsound",
    Should I ask all users install JMF or there is another way to solve this problem.

    First is why not to use javaSound?
    Second: Reliable capture uses native modules in JMF performance packs.
    jsound.dll, 4example, on Win. And you need to register(commit) devices - so you have to run JMFInit (.exe, or .class) on client, and not under Applet.
    Shortly: you need to have native modules jmutil and jsound (.dll in System(on Win95-98) )or in System32 (on WinNT) ) on client, you have to threat client to run JMFInit, and you need to allow capture in applets, if you want client to record sound in applet.
    P.S. Allowing capture in applets could be set by any code such as
    import com.sun.media.util.JMFI18N;
    import com.sun.media.util.Registry;
    import java.io.*;
    class AllowCapture
    public static void main(String args[])
    Registry.set("secure.allowCaptureFromApplets", new Boolean(true));
    try
    Registry.commit();
    catch (IOException ioe)
         System.out.println("Could not commit.");
    But! Code does not run (of course (= ) in applets x)
    So, in closing, easier to persuade cloent to install JMF, than install JMF manually :)
    But your "minimized" JMF would be size of about 1.5 mb against nearly 6 mb of JMF.

  • Should I reset Firefox after doing a system restore that successfully got rid of malware that had taken over Firefox and turned it into Bing?.

    On January 12, when downloading Java, maleware/adware named Shopop got into my Windows 7 computer and took over Firefox. Firefox became Bing, with pop-up ads. Doing a malware and virus clean-up did not eliminate the problem.
    I then did a system restore to January 8. This fixed the problem, and Firefox returned to normal.
    Should I still do a complete reset of Firefox, anyway? This was recommended to me by a pc repair technician in my area.

    Is Firefox behaving strangely or have any unwanted settings? If not, it's probably easier just to check a few things:
    (1) Extensions
    Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
    Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    (2) Possible user.js file
    This article describes how to check for a user.js file which third party software may create to prevent you from changing some settings. Usually, you can just delete the file if you find it.

    Hi and welcome to the forums!
    I would activate it first and get used to the basic operation.
    The upgrade will take about an hour to be on the safe side, and yes always take a full backup before
    any upgrade. The link below will provide you with your carrier's website for downloading the Blackberry
    device OS. Do you have the Blackberry desktop manager installed? What version is it?
    Also attached is the upgrade procedure.
    Thanks,

  • Installing Bootcamp with Parallels installed

    Hey guys.
    I need to install Bootcamp to run Rhinoceros and Grasshopper with full graphics support. It isn't a good idea to run these programs only on parallels. However, I am told that I need to install Bootcamp BEFORE parallels if I want them to share the same Windows copy. I already have parallels installed, along with Revit and the full Microsoft Office suite. I don't want to delete all of my installed programs to install windows onto Bootcamp. Is there anyway to salvage this without having to dig up old codes and trying to get all my software back?
    My end-goal is to be able to work in Bootcamp for serious CAD and drafting software, whilst still maintaining the capability of opening these same files for viewing and light edting in Parallels while running Mac. I would be using Bootcamp ONLY for Rhinoceros Grasshopper and Revit. Excel PPT word and other microsoft applications would be run exclusively through parallels.
    Thank you for your views and responses
    - Thomas

    without knowing anything about parallels and feeling that the parallels forum would likely be a safer place to confirm your questions then
    I would think that they mean that you just have to have installed bootcamp before creating the virtual machine in parallels which is to access the windows partition  not wait with installing the virtual machine software(parallels) itself
    but as stated parallels is about the only virtual machine software I have no experience with at all

  • Should I install the Application?

    Hi,  I've downloaded the following file: "isohunt_downloader_setup.exe," but I haven't installed it yet.  I'm a bit confused - doesn't the "exe" make this a PC file?
    Should I install it?  Does it need any special instructions to install in my Mac?

    It's a Wondows PC application. It won't run on a Mac.

  • I need help with doing a system wipe/re-install

    I want to completely wipe my Macbook Pro (running Mountain Lion) and do a OS reinstall so that it is as if it was just taken out of the box. I have already moved files I want to keep over to an external. My question is this, do I need to do anything in regards to Microsoft Office or iTunes? Do I need to deauthorize my iTunes or my Microsoft Office activation code? Also, how do I even go about doing this system reset?

    Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
    Step One - Back up your data:
           A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
           B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
              1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
              2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
              3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
                  side.
              4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
                  sure to opt for that.
                   Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
                   startup drive.
    Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
              1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
              2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
              3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
              4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
              5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
    Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
         A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
              1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
              2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
              3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
                  Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              4. Install OS X.
              5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
              6. Shutdown the computer.
         B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
             Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
                       it is three times faster than wireless.
              1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
                  Utilities window appears.
              2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
              3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
                  on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
              4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
                  and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
              6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
              7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
              8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
    *If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.
