Should I install iMovie '09 on my iMac G5 1.8 GHz?

I just bought iLife '09. Unfortunately, I now realise that iMovie requires a G5 running at 1.9 GHz or more. (My G5 is a 1.8 GHz.)
Does anybody know what to do? Can I install iMovie '09 at all, or will it simply not run?
Should I keep iMovie '08 and not install the '09 version? Would the other iLife '09 applications be affected, since they are supposed to link up like Garage Band and iPhoto or iMovie?
Thanks.

I've got a 20" iMac G5, 1.8 GHz (single processor) with a GeForce FX 5200 Graphics Card & 2GB of RAM and iMovie '09 opens and runs. Sometimes it runs a bit slow, but it does open and run.
The only thing that doesn't run for me are the GarageBand Lessons.
Hope that helps!

  • How do I install iMovie '06 on my iMac?

I have the original iLife '06 and am having a problem installing iMovie '06 on my iMac 3.06, 2GB, running Mac OSX 10.5.8. I thought I had installed it, but when I booted it, this message popped up. "You cannot open the application “iMovie HD” because it is not supported on this architecture". I tried to install it again, using the "custom" install, but the name is gray and it cannot be selected. Could someone state the step by step installation instructions. I must be missing something.
    Thanks, Rick

I tried the easy way as suggested by Silly rabbit and installed iMovie '06, but it altered iDVD, and now iDVD will not launch. The way I did it was: 1. booted the iLife '06 installation disk; 2. Moved iMovie '09 and iMovie '08 to the desktop; 3. Selected iMovie '06 from the "Custom" install option; 4. and clicked "Install". While iMovie '06 installing, I saw the iDVD icon flash a few times. After installation, I moved iMovie '09 and '08 back into the application folder and all three iMovie programs booted up, but iDVD did not. Help!

  • It is should be installed an antivirus software for iMac product?

    Hi dear Apple..
I would like to ask about an antivirus software for iMac product. It is should be installed for virus protection, for example Kaspersky Antivirus?
    Thanks..

OS X versions 10.6.7 and later have built-in detection of known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
The most effective defense against malware is your own intelligence. All known malware on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of trojans, which can only work if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. How do you know a source is untrustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown site, merely in order to use the site, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim.
“Cracked” copies of commercial software downloaded from a bittorrent are likely to be infected.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
Disable Java (not JavaScript) in your web browser(s). Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This setting is mandatory in OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those versions has bugs that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. Those bugs will probably never be fixed, because those older operating systems are no longer being maintained by Apple. Upgrade to a newer version of OS X as soon as you can.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use the free software ClamXav — nothing else.

Should I install McAFee security suite on my iMac?

Since you say you are using a PPC Mac, then you must be running an older version of OS X which is not fully protected against all the Mac malware that is currently out there. In your case there isn't very much as most of the latest have been Intel only, but there are a couple that could impact you. The latest have been using a vulnerability in Java that cannot be patched for you, so you need to make certain that you have Java (not JavaScript) disabled in all your browsers except for any short periods where you have to have it to use a web site. There aren't very many of these left around, but some financial institutions still use it.
So my advice would be to consider using some sort of A-V product if you feel more comfortable after reading Thomas Reeds article. It depends on your computing habits and knowing when not to enter your admin password. If you use something like McAfee, it will almost certainly slow a PPC computer. Others, not so much.
Full disclosure: I do uncompensated Tech Support on the ClamXav Forum.

Have a new imac installed with Mavericks and iMovie 10.0.2. Prefer the 9 version on my older "white" imac. Can I use migration assistant to bring over version 9 but still keep 10 on? If yes, is new imac the source or target?
Have the iLife 11 divds but no dvd with new imac. Thx.

How do I re install iMovie
    I'm using iMac i5 8GB

iLife - and therefore imovie, iphoto etc is not supplied with 10.4.
    Go figure!
That'd slipped my mind, sorry. The additional software that came with your iBook including iLife will all be on the supplied 10.3 disks though, albeit, obviously, the versions that were current at the time.
I'd still ask for 10.4 disk though.
    Good luck,

  • How do I install iMovie HD and iDVD on a new iMac?

    I have a new iMac, running 10.9.3.
I want to install iMovie HD and iDVD on this iMac.
I have the old install disks.
    How should I proceed?
    Thank you,
    Hal

The improvements provided by iDVD 7 over version 6 are not confined to themes.
Happily having two version of iMovie is easily achieved, but it has to be done backwards.
Delete iMovie 11 (just drag it to the trash). Now install iMovie 6 from the iLife 6 install disks. Update it to iMovie 6.0.3.
Now re-install iMovie 11. This automatically moves iMovie 6 into a folder it creates in your Applications folder called iMovie Previous Version.
    Then reinstall iMovie 11.
iMovie 6 works great with iDVD 7.
Now you have them both, and you can have both in the Dock as well.

I need to install windows 7 on my iMac (via bootcamp), should i stall 32-bit or 64-bit option?
    Thanks

If your system is Core2Duo or better, use 64-bit.  32-bit only sees 3.5 GB RAM max.  64-bit Home sees 16 GB RAM max, and 64-bit Pro sees 192 GB RAM max.

  • How do I install iMovie on my iMac?

I recently bought a new iMac computer.  I own a MacBook Pro and purchased iMovie and about three other apps on this device.  When I tried to sync all of my apps to the new iMac I noticed that iMovie (and the three or so other apps I bought on my MacBook Pro) does not appear in my iTunes library.  Also, when i go to the apps store to search for iMovie, it states that it's already 'installed' and won't let me select it.
My question: How do I install iMovie (which I've already purchased) on my iMac when it doesn't appear in my iTunes library?
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

I tried to redownload the app - but was not given that option.  When I search and find the app in the app store, it states that the app has been installed and won't let me select it for download.

  • Cannot install iMovie HD update 6.0.1 on my iMac G5

    Hi all -
I'm running on 10.4.5, and have iMovie HD 5.0.2 installed.
When I try to install iMovie HD 6.0.1, I get the alert "cannot install on this volume. An eligible iMovie HD application was not found in the location Applications/iMovie HD.app"
Did I miss the 6.0.1 boat by only having 5.0.2?
Do I need to purchase 6.0?
    Thanks.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    sirstewart,
Assuming you have an iMac with the built-in iSight, you're sort of right that you need iMovie HD 6.
Here are some workaround tips (admittedly not very satisfactory):
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051217210335199
iMovie HD 5 does work with the stand alone version of the iSight camera.
    My advice: Buy iLife '06!

  • How much RAM should I install for new iMAC ?

    Hi,
How much RAM should I install for new iMAC* running Logic Studio? It comes with 4 GB - is that enough? (can you run in 64 bit mode..)
    *(The 21.5" 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo)
Also, I was planning to get the stock 1 TB Hard Drive & save projects to an external drive.
    Does that sound reasonable?
    Any other recommendations?
    Thanks,
    Wm Heart

Unless you plan on running huge projects with enormous sampled instruments, 4 GB will do (very) fine. And your disk plan is sound. Choose an external Firewire drive, rather than USB. FW is easier on the CPU and can handle more tracks than USB.
What you should get, instead of more memory, is a (24 bit) external audio interface, if you want to do serious recording and playback.
What type of audio interface you'ld need, depends on what you want to do with it and of course your budget. From decent to brilliant costs from roughly 100 to several 1,000's of europounddollars. Avoid the 16 bit ones, they're worse than the inbuilt audio chip of your iMac. You can recognize 16 bit Audio Interfaces (in webshops) by their prize (often under 100€£$) and the lack of mention of their bitrate.

I would try the installer disks of your G5.. probably contains iMHD6 ..

  • My iMac has 2x2GB SODIMMs. Should I install 1x4GB SODIMM or 2x2GB?

    The topic says it all..
Installing more RAM in my iMac.
Have 2x2GB that came with the machine
    Can I install 1 more 4GB SODIMM or should I install 2x2GB?
Is there any difference in performance between the two or am I not with the times?

Just add the 4GB modules as you can afford them. Running with uneven sized RAM cards has very little impact on speed in the real world whereas the more RAM the better is always true.

  • I just installed iLife on my new Imac version 10.8.2 and now I can't open my iPhoto app.  It says that I Photo is damaged or incomplete.  What do I do to restore my iPhoto and pictures!

I just installed iLife on my new iMac 10.8.2 version and now I can't open my iPhoto app.  It says it is damaged or incomplete.  What can I do to get it back along with all of my picutures?  I was told by an Apple employee at my one to one training that it was OK to install iLife to get the iDVD that I wanted. Help!

I have installed iLife a few times and because of photostream, the version on the disc must be updated.  Software update usually takes care of it.  It sounds like you installed an old version over a new version.  I've not tried that.
You have a late 2012 machine, if you open the Mac app store from the dock, you should be able to go to the purchased tab and download/install the right version of iphoto.  Honestly, you should not have used that disc on this new of mac or at least only installed iDVD & iWeb but not garageband, iphoto, and iMovie.
If the Mac App Store shows iphoto as installed already, drag the app from your applications folder to the trash and reinstall it again from the Mac App Store.  That is the version you need.  You may find garageband and imovie have similar problems.
    good luck.
PS.  your photos are in your photo folder in your home folder.  don't touch those, I'm talking about the app "iphoto" in the applications folder.
