Should I install iTunes 5?

Hello,
Before ask any questions, I'll begin with a little story:
A couple days ago I completely wiped my iMac G4. All of my purchased music, everything I had in iTunes, has been burned onto CDS and storage CDS. My plan is to put back on only what I really want, and keep my iPod mini filled with more music.
That being said, should I:
1) Install iTunes 5? I've heard a lot of nasty stories about it. Now, I know the interface has changed (that doesn't bug me one bit, from what I've seen it still looks good) but my primary concern is the infestation of supposed glitches. iPod not syncing, playlists disappearing, lots of bad stuff. This really has me concerned. Since I wiped my Computer, and didn't install Tiger (because 10.4 refuses to work with my external HD despite my best efforts) my iTunes version is 4.1.7. Yikes! This is a pain because I can't easily access the podcasts I listein to on a daily basis.
Thanks everyone,
ben

I may try iT5 this weekend after backing up my library.
ibosket hello,
If anything was to go wrong at all it would be in the library dept. and you have that covered.
If you have any doubts at all follow these steps here and you will be trouble free.
here a couple of links to do with Ext HD for you to look at..

  • Installed itunes for windows- ipod+dvd drives not recognized by my computer

After installing i tunes I received a message saying that there were errors during install. Importing and export (burning) would not be possible through i tunes, I should re-install itunes. I have reinstalled i tunes.
On restarting my computer i have encountered issues with drives, I cannot find the ipod in "my computer" nor can i find my dvd drive. The drivers for the dvd drive are installed.
There is possibly confusion over the drives allocated letters ie it maybe the hardware is trying to use the same designation.
Is this a common issue with installing i tunes, I can't find any other threads on similar issues. Any suggestions on fixes greatly appreciated.

ahhhhhh, many thanks for the link. for a while (about a year ago), Packard Bell UK was including those instructions on their troubleshooting pages, but then they went away. (or i just couldn't find where they'd been shifted to.)
usually nowadays i crank out the MS instructions instructions instead:
(MS) CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
... but it's a (slightly perverse) sort of comfort to know that i'm still recommending basically what Packard Bell recommends.

  • Installing itunes on laptop

okay guys i want to install itunes on my laptop, but i have all my music on my external hard drive which is from my old desktop. so should i install itunes on the laptops hard drive to get access to that music or on the external hard drive? thanks.

on the backup drive there should be a folder.
backup drive open documents & settings
in that folder there should be a folder with your name, open that folder
in that folder there should be a folder called "My documents"
in that folder there should be a folder "My music"
in my music there should be a folder called "iTunes"
you would want to copy that folder into the same location on your new computer.

  • Issues with re-installing Itunes.

A while back some computer error had made Itunes unable to register my ipod. The error information box said that I should un-install Itunes and all related programs, and then re-install them. I have un-installed them, but it won't re-install. why is that? it said that my system wasn't modified. what does that mean? what do i do about it?

    Hello Will,
I know you said you uninstalled iTunes but if you only uninstalled the application itself and not its components, when you re installed the issue could keep happening. I recommend using this article to uninstall iTunes and its components Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7 found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923.
After that try installing iTunes again and see if the issue is resolved.
    Take care,
    Sterling

when installing iTunes on my new laptop a message box appears saying some sort of error has occured and i have to uninstall it then reinstall it again and it still won't work what should i do?

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if AAS won't install normally.

I downloaded the latest iTunes version and now get the following error message: "This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please re-install iTunes." Can anyone provide suggestions on what I should do next?

Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch your iTunes now?

  • About to install iTunes, where should i move my music folder?

So i am about to install iTunes and wanted to know if i should move my music flder to a certain location/folder?
If i don't have to move my music folder then i am assuming that iTunes will find the folder and make copies of my music?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

You don't need to move anything. When you install iTunes it will create a number of default files and folders in default locations. The iTunes folder (which will contain the iTunes library files and the iTunes Music folder) will be created in C:\Username\Music in Windows Vista. When you install iTunes for the first time you'll be asked if you want the program to scan you computer for music files to add to the library or if you want to add them yourself: Adding Content to iTunes

  • I format my laptop to win 7 pro 64 bit then i installed itunes and i want my old podcasts to be on the library. i have my old podcast in hard drive. what should i do to get it????

i format my laptop to win 7 pro 64 bit then i installed itunes and i want my old podcasts to be on the library. i have my old podcast in hard drive. what should i do to get it????

I assume the podcasts you have are the mp3 or other audio files rather than a podcast feed in iTues or another rss reader? You can simply drag the audio files into iTunes, though they will appear in the 'Music' list since iTunes has know way of knowing that they come from a podcast.
You can change the 'Media Kind' in the get Info pane (menu File>Get Info>Options pane) to 'Podcast' but each file will appear as a podcast with no title, containing the single episode.
