Should I install my fcp 5.0 first before installing fcp 5.1 on a new imac

I just purchased a new imac. I have my old fcp 5.0 for my pre-intel g5. I know it doesnt work on the intel imac so I got the fcp 5.1. Do I need to install the 5.0 first and then the 5.1 or can I just install the 5.1?

That's kind of unusual, because the 5.1 upgrade I thought was a disc swap.
In any case, you don't need 5.0.

There is no requirement to charge for any predetermined amount of time. You can charge at any time, for any amount of time.

No, you can't partition a Time Capsule's internal HD.  Both partitions will back up to the same sparse bundle. keeping the backups for each partition separate.
Time Machine will not take the two OSX partitions as two different computers, but for best results, exclude the Snow Leopard drive from backups on the Lion partition, and exclude the Lion partition from backups on the Snow Leopard partition.
There may be some files on the Lion partition that Time Machine on Snow Leopard won't like, among other things.  See #10 in  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions for details.

In general most macs you buy are the same. If you will be doing quite a lot of editing of photos and videos, then the big things to look for are:
Processor - 2.8ish GHz Intel i7 4-core - is about the best I have head of thus far.
RAM - fairly easy to upgrade yourself, but 16GB is typically more than you will need for the next 5 years at least.
iLife is reasonably good software for editing media, but as a photographer, you may have your own prefered software
The good thing about Apple is that they don't sell ****** computers in general. They offer little in the way of customization of hardware which is both their strength and weakness.

  • I have an old version of Logic Pro 8 installed on an MAC air. I now need to migrate to my new iMac but I lost my CDs. How can I accomplish this task

I have purchased a new iMac and I have an Logic Pro version 8 installed on my Mac air. Can someone tell me how to migrate it to the iMac since I misplaced my CDs.

You should be able to hook the two up and run the migration assistant app to transfer all apps to the new machine.
    Mike,
I do agree with you...  that you *could* do that but the issue is the large number of reported problems, here and elsewhere,  by people trying to use MA with Logic.... resulting in them having to re-install Logic and it's content, from scratch anyhow.. negating the use of MA to achieve this..
I also believe, though I have no proof of course, that based on previous similar situations on the App Store, there will be no discount for recent purchaser of Logic 9 when the next major version of Logic is released...  but then again, the current price of Logic 9 is the same price as the Logic 8 to Logic 9 upgrade price was anyhow.. so in reality, for me at least, it would be reasonable to pay that same price for the Logic 9 to Logic <whatever> anyhow!
    Cheers..

  • Having trouble installing, telling me to close firefox, before instalations complete

after downloading new version, when I click run, then next, a message appears saying (Firefox must be closed to proceed with the installation. Please close firefox to continue.) & When I do, then the installation/setup stops too. Please help, I thank-u for your time.
    Sincerely,

If a reboot is needed then that usually means that some (security) software is blocking files.
    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • If I should install netweaver firstly before install ecc6??

I  do not know the relationship between ecc6 and netweaver7.
If  I want to install ecc6, is that means I should install netweaver7 firstly.
can you give me your advices.  thanks a lot.

then after I install ecc6 only, which parts are netweaver7, and which parts are ecc6?? In my ecc6 system, netweaver7 contains what??
if you see in a ECC6, you will find no of addon components like EA-* extension sets, SAP_APPL components .. they are ECC functionality. SAP_ABA, SAP_BASIS, SAP_BW are the part of WebApplication Server which provides the runtime environment..
But if you see in a BW system, which is also based on netweaver, you will find SAP_ABA, SAP_BASIS, SAP_BW which are the application components of netweaver. it wont have SAP_APPL as BW system doesn't have the functionality of ECC. simple!

  • Do we have to register the airport express first before installing

how to install the airport express? or do i have to register it first?

As uliwooly says, it charges faster while off so I'd recommend that you turn it off when you charge it. Regarding charging time, charge it for as long or short as you want  - these types of batteries doesn't require that you charge up to 100% before disconnecting the charger. When ~90% it should turn green, yes. I'm using this headset every day and I charge for about 2 hours every other day since I pretty much use it all the time.

  • Should I burn all my photos & docs off before installing Tiger?

Does installing 10.4 erase the stuff I have on here? I want to install it right now! LOL!

    Hi jence;
There are three ways to install Tiger; Upgrade, Archive&Install and Erase&Install. The only one of these that would erase anything is the Erase&Install. I usually suggest that you start with and Upgrade and see how that works for you. If you have problems then I suggest you use the Archive&Install. I tend to save the Erase&Install only for those situations that call for the nuclear solution.
Having said all of that backup your data before any upgrade is a good thing because you never know when things might take an unexpect turn for the worse. It is alway best to have your data safe and not need to use it then to wish you had after it is gone.

  • My time machine backup was created on iMac with Mountain Lion and my new iMac has Mavericks installed, will I be able to restore a backup from time machine to new imac and all applications work ok

time machine backup to new iMac

Yes, however it's always wise to update your apps to ensure you have the most up-to-date version. Use Setup Assistant to migrate your data, apps and settings to the new iMac, simply follow the on-screen directions. If the new machine has already arrived and you have already run Setup Assistant, connect the TM backup to the new machine and run Migration Assistant (a cousin of Setup Assistant) and follow the on-screen directions. You can find Migration Assistant in Applications - Utilities - Migrations Assistant or you can use the keyboard shortcut of Command + Spacebar and type "Migration Assistant".

  • Before installing SSD in macbook pro, should I first partition it through USB?

    Hi there,
I've got the Crucial MX100 as an upgrade from my Hitachi HDD. I don't need to copy anything from the old drive, and I will install Yosemite via usb flash.
I did a bit of research and some people (not mac users necessarily) have had problems in partitioning the SSD after attaching it to the sata port. My question is: would it be recommended to first create a GUID partition through USB on the ssd before installing it in? I think I know the answer to that, and my instincts tell me to trust the Mac, but I want to be sure.
    Thank you!
    Early 2011 MBP, 512GB Crucial MX100

Even if you have the same name as Grant Pannell the "pioneer" in the starting period of the SSDs, you can not post your statement as the truth.
And it certainly has nothing to do with data integrity. Can you tell me if Apple has something special in their SSD controller or the standard controller ?
If you refer to old SSDs with controllers of 3 or 4 years old, and a pre_Yosemite OS, Trim may have been interesting to install, I did it on all SSds then, and I am using SSDs already for 5 years. but in the last 2 years the SSD controllers are so advanced that - when overprovisioning is enough, trim does not add anything anymore. In Yosemite it is certainly unrealistic to do because you have to disrobe an important layer of security.

I assumed this would help my problem with not being able to open apps like Preview or TextEdit since I installed Mountain Lion. Instead, first I'm prompted to enter a password, then once I do that, I get an error box telling me the Library needs repairing. So I click on Repair, and once again I'm prompted for a password, which I enter, then the same error box opens, and so it goes. Can anyone help me with this problem? I'd greatly appreciate it.
    Thor

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Bootcamp Question? Should I update bootcamp before installing Vista SP1

    Hi,
I am about to install Vista SP1 on iMac, Leopard 10.5.4.
About a month back, there was a bootcamp update that had been posted on support download website. The question is; Do I need to install the Update before installing Vista or is that needs to be done after the installation of Vista?
    Thanks for the help,

The update is consists only of new device drivers for Windows XP and Vista. There are different updates depending upon whether you install 32-bit XP, 32-bit Vista, or 64-bit Vista. So Windows must be installed first, the original drivers included on the Leopard DVD should be installed, then you can install the update in Windows.
