Should I install the Client or Database binaries

I need to manage some Oracle Databases (10.2). Should I install the Client or Database Binaries. It seems the components included in the client changes. Right now I have the Oracle Client 11.1.0.6.0 installed and I do not see any admin too to managed the database like I saw in the Oracle 10g Clients. So confusing.
THanks,

Oracle client also comes in different flavor.. You can also install Oracle client with Admin utilities in case you are not going to create any database on the machine. If you will be creating any database, then you will need Oracle database binaries.

  • If I were to purchase the Apple Remote Desktop with Unlimited licenses, would I be able to install the client software on each of there computers/laptops and have them remote desktop into the server?

I have several friends and family who are looking for a central place to access information from ( Pictures, home movies etc ).  So I am considering setting up an OSX Lion Server.  There are some other things I can use it for as well.
    Here is my question:
If I were to purchase the Apple Remote Desktop with Unlimited licenses, would I be able to install the client software on each of there computers/laptops and have them remote desktop into the server?  Or would I have to install the Admin software on each?  Do they intend it to be used strictly as one admin to access many clients?
I always could set up a network drive so they can log in and just see the folders they have created with space on the server I provide them.  But I want them to be able to log an and actually use it as a Remote Desktop.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Dave,
Thanks for the feedback.  I understand that ARD is meant for Remote Administration, but I was not sure if it could be used for my purpose as well.  The reason I was looking to do it this was was because I read several articles online about security and performance issues with setting up VNC and activating screen sharing.  Unless I am misunderstood.
As far as people's activities on the server, mostly it is going to be used as a place for them to store their media.  I will only allow own person ( Who I trust and I know wont botch the server ), to run applications.  Everyone else will be restricted to uploading and downloading content to their designated account on the server as well as a community share on the server.
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Eric

You have to ask that?   Because the more plugins you add to a browser the more likely something is going to clash, or simply slow down the the whole thing, particularly if it is a plugin designed for newer model computers.  As Niel said, if you don't need it then don't install it.

should i install the sims 3 on my mac or will it make it slow ?

    annalise253,
installing a legitimately purchased game on your Mac should not make it slow unless its internal disk is critically low on free space. If installing the game does slow it down when the game isn’t being played, you could uninstall the game. Installing a game of uncertain provenance could have side effects, depending upon how the game has been modified.

  • Lightroom 5. Should I install the CC version?

I already own Lightroom 5. Should I install the CC version?

When I subscribed to the creative cloud I uninstalled my standalone Lightroom 5, and then installed from the creative cloud application manager. Some people say that it isn't necessary. It possibly isn't. If Lightroom 5 is working satisfactorily now, it's your decision. When Lightroom 6 is eventually released you will want to install that from that creative cloud application manager. You didn't provide a lot of information in your question. I assume you are aware that you must subscribe to the creative cloud in order to receive the benefits.

  • Should I install the 10.7.3 combo update?

    Hi,
I've just read many reports of users experiencing problems with OS X Lion 10.7.3 when installed from the software update. I successfully updated 5 Macs using this method (hence not from the combo update).
Should I install the combo update on top of my working 10.7.3 systems or should I just leave them as is?
Is Apple going to release some kind of patch in order to "unify" all 10.7.3 versions? (there was the original combo then a new combo and the delta update available from software update). If I understand correctly there were at least 2 differents builds of 10.7.3 that were made available to the general public.
    Thanks.

My question as well......see my post.

Should I install the Kaspersky Internet Software included free with the purchase of a new MacBook Air OS X?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You mustn't. Apart from the fact that OS X doesn't need an antivirus (OS X has got its own security systems), commercial antiviruses like Kaspersky can do more harm than something good for your Mac. See > http://www.reedcorner.net/mmg
If you want to install an antivirus, install Sophos or ClamXav

  • Newly installed SAP881 PL04. Cannot install the client

    Hi Experts,
I installed a new full install SAP881 PL04. The server components installed correctly. However, when I try to install the client it shows that the client and SDK are already installed. I check the add/remove programs but either the SAPB1 client and the SAP SDK does not show up there either.
    Please advise how to proceed.
    Thank you in advance.
    Jose

    Hi Gordon,
You are right. This machine has prior version of the SAP 88  client and SAP SDK installed. The versions were removed using the add/remove programs. But most likely the registry did not get clean up correctly.
I will keep you posted how I progress. Thank you for the tip. It give me some excellent hint how to proceed.

  • SCCM Client Push Installation Wizard does not install the client. CCMSetup folder - not created

    Hello,
I have tried running the Client Push wizard for a single computer or a pilot collection of 8 computers, the result is always
the same - no SCCM client is installed on any computer.
The computers are running 32-bit Windows XP SP2.
    The Windows firewall is disabled.
The client push installation account is setup and have domain admin and local admin privileges. Client Push automatic method
    is not enabled.
The domain is AD WIndows 2000.
The SCCM server is running Windows 2003 R2 SP2 64bit Standard.
The AD schema has been extended.
MP, and SLP are installed and published. (MP is published in DNS as well.)
    FSP is installed.
MP, SLP and FSP are running on the same server.
SQL 2005 server is running locally.
System management container is created and all rights and permissions delegated.
With the Push installation account I can access C$ share on the client computer from the SCCM server.
RPC, Remote registry, WMI services are running on the client machines.
All prerequisites are installed from the client folder on SCCM server- latest BITS 2.5, Windows installer 3.1 and MSXML6.
All computers are in the same IP subnet which is listed in the boundaries.
Yet, the client is not being installed.
No CCMSetup folder is created on the client machines in Windows\System32 folder, so it is really difficult to troubleshoot
what the is the issue. I do not see anything helpful in the ccm.log on the server.
I have tried running the CCMSetup.exe manually on one of the workstations and that was successful and reported back to the
    SCCM server / console.
What else I should check / try? I really want to push agents via the wizard.
    Thank you,
    Peter

    Hi Wally,
    I have changed 2 things:
    1. Enabed automatic push installation (so I am not usign the wizard any more)
    2. Changed the IP subnet to IP ranges in the site boundairies.
After runnignt the discovery, I was able to see some activities in the ccm.log. A ccmsetup folder is now created but the agent is still not instaleld. Here is the ccmsetup.log

    Hi,
Is there a specific reason for installing SQL Express 2005? If it's not, take MSDE 2000 and patch it to SP04. You get it for free in the download section of the microsoft homepage.
The failure is, that the installation routine is looking for msde2000 sp04 installation. if you have installed 2005 express, this gets an error... My installation is runing very well with msde2000 on sp04.... just try it

  • Machine disapprears after installing the client

    SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 Primary Site Server.
After we push the client to any machine, it gets installed successfully however that machine disappears from SCCM console temporarily. It shows up sometimes after 24-48 hours. No errors in any log files. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot such issue.

Sounds like a collection refresh needs to be done. As suggested, look in "Devices" or "All Systems" collections, can you see it then?

  • Should I install the 10.6.3 update?

Is it a good idea to install the update on my macbook pro? There seem to be tons of bug reports.

    Strato222 wrote:
There seem to be tons of bug reports.
Don't confuse reports of problems with confirmed bugs in the update. As with any OS update, some users will have problems afterwards & will jump to the conclusion that the only possible cause is the update. That sounds like a reasonable assumption but it is actually a logical fallacy so common that it even has a nickname called "Post Hoc," short for the Latin phrase for 'after this; therefore, because of this.'
As the above link explains, this doesn't necessarily mean the assumption is wrong but that more evidence is needed to corroborate it before it can be considered a reasonable one. As Discussions regulars have explained after every OS update is released, dozens or even hundreds of reports about post-update problems are expected, but don't provide corroboration because they are not representative of the millions of users of the OS in question, since few users not having any problems will take the time to report that.
BTW, in a recent thread about this update, one did take the time … to report that he experienced no problems while updating +two hundred+ Macs to 10.6.3. That alone should tell you something about the value of jumping to conclusions.

  • Should I install the new update?

I have been reading about the total failure of MacBook Pros after running the latest update. Does this affect MacBooks or just the MacBook Pros?

Yes you should. It is the best thing for the computer to keep it up to date. Now that it has been out for a while, the apple software team has fixed all of the bugs and it is now safe and recommended that you download and install the update using the software update application on your mac.
