Should I install the latest version of silverlight on my mac laptop?

Templeton Peck wrote:
sure, why not?  Why do you think you shouldn't?
You have to ask that?   Because the more plugins you add to a browser the more likely something is going to clash, or simply slow down the the whole thing, particularly if it is a plugin designed for newer model computers.  As Niel said, if you don't need it then don't install it.

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of numbers on my mac. Everytime I save and then try to reopen that document, I receive a message telling me that I need a new version of numbers. Also, when I try to sort the date column, it sorts out of order. The last version sorted fine.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you install the new iWork version, the old iWork version is kept, so it looks like you are opening your old version.
To fix this, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and drag the new Numbers version to the Dock, so you can access to it quickly. Open all documents from this version. I don't recommend you to delete the old Numbers version in case you need it.
Respecting to the second question, you will get better answers in the Numbers for OS X forum

    Hi emeldafromaz,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  I would recommend trying a thorough reinstall of iTunes as described here:

  • When I try to install the latest version of Firefox on my Mac (OS 10.5.8) it keeps telling me I have "insufficent priviliges". I am using the Admin account. What do I do?

I downloaded the latest version of Firefox to install on my Mac (OS 10.5.8). When I tried to install it gave me a message saying I had "insufficient privileges". I am using the Admin account. What should I do?

    * Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re)install.
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded.

Once you are in Recovery Mode, it's too late to do any backup. I am afraid you are going to lose your data.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

Should I download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash to use with Lion?  My need for Flash is very basic: Google Maps, YouTube, and content on certain websites.  Thanks for any help you are able to provide.

Thanks for the speedy reply.  I have read so many comments about Flash being incompatible with Lion I was wondering whether to download it or not.  So many sites on the Web still require flash, however, you almost don't have a choice but to download it even if it is incompatible.  I gather a better version of Flash will be available for Lion soon.  Again, thanks for the help.  I will download the latest version of Flash.

  • I installed the latest version AND the beta and with both I have the same problem: After I install, they both work the way they should. When I turn off my computer and get back on later, Firefox is NOT "installed", according to my computer.

''locking as a duplicate of this - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/791340''
I installed the latest version first. When I was done, Firefox was working great. I got off and went back on to my computer later. Firefox was not there, but the shortcut was. I got this error that the item that referred to the shortcut was no longer there. I uninstalled. I tried the beta (4) and the same exact issue occured.

    ryansaint11,
this isn’t Apple support; this is a user-to-user forum. We’re just fellow users of Apple products here.
If you want to boot from your SSD, then you should put the SSD where your HDD currently is, and put the HDD into the optical bay. (That setup will also get you the best performance.) At the moment, you’re still booting from your HDD. Note that you will need to format your SSD in Disk Utility [with the “Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)” format] so that you can install OS X onto it.
Since you have an Early 2011 model, it might or might not have originally come with grey installation DVDs. You will be able to find out whether it did or not by trying to use OS X Internet Recovery to install OS X onto your SSD. If it does not work, or if the installed OS turns out to be Snow Leopard, then it will have originally come with the DVDs, and you should purchase a replacement pair of DVDs from Apple or iFixit; those discs will have your MacBook Pro’s Apple Hardware Test and its iLife apps. If the installed OS turns out to be Lion, then it will not originally have come with the grey installation DVDs, and your Apple Hardware Test will be installed along with Lion, and your iLife apps will be downloadable from the Mac App Store.

  • After installing the latest version of Kaspersky Anti-virus, I can no longer receive e-mails.

I can send e-mails, but I can't receive any and they do not get copied to my Sent folder.
I have two accounts (using the same Thunderbird installation and the same IMAP server) and both have the same problem.
Thunderbird no longer asks my for my passwords and after a while I get a message that says only that the connection has timed out.
Before the connection times out, the text that appears on the bottom bar says Checking mail server capabilities.
On another thread, someone suggested logging into the account vis a Web client and deleting the oldest undownloaded message from the inbox because it could be a problem with the e-mail that blocks Thunderbird, but all my undownloaded e-mails were received after the problem started occurring.
I recently installed the latest version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus, so I'm suspecting it's blocking the incoming connection. I tried to re-install Thunderbird to see if it would work around Kasperky or tell me what I should do to get it to make an exception (or something like that). No such luck.
The Kaspersky support services don't seem to be worth anything so I don't think I'll get any help from their end.
Any help from here would be greatly appreciated,
    Simon

  • Can I get help installing the latest version of iTunes?

Can I get help installing the latest version/update of iTunes on my PC?

Assuming the install has failed as it has for several others...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

  • After I installed the latest version of ITunes I get a message saying I'm missing the SQlite3.dll file. I have even unistalled the new version and then re-installed, still same message.

After I installed the latest version of ITunes I get a message saying I'm missing the SQlite3.dll file. I have even unistalled the new version and then re-installed, still same message.

With Windows Explorer, navigate to your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
Copy the SQLite3.dll that you should find there, navigate to the nearby Mobile Device Support folder, and Paste it in there also.
Restart the programme all should be well
In case that your OS is (64 bit)
    1. Open windows explorer, go to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    2. Copy file "SQLite3.dll"
    3. Now paste it in the folder  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
    4. Restart the programme, it should not display that message, it should be clear.
    Good Luck

  • Why can't I install the latest version of Flash Player?  I have all plug-ins allowed.

Why can't I install the latest version of Flash Player?  I have all plug-ins allowed.

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
    a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
              When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
    b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
    c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
              Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
              Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
              Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

  • Thunderbird 24.3.0.5144 crashes as soon as I try to open it. How can I fix this or should I download the latest version?

I click on the Thunderbird shortcut and Windows immediately tells me the programme has stopped working. It then tells me that "a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". Is there a fix available for this? If not should I download the latest version of Thunderbird? Will the new version automatically find my settings? Obviously I cannot automatically upgrade if the programme closes before I open it!

Thanks for that. I installed Thunderbird from the Mozilla website and the programme now opens. All previous settings and e-mails etc. are there.

OS 10.5.x is the max OS for Macs with a PowerPC processor. If your iMac has an Intel processor you can upgrade to Snow Leopard OS 10.6.x and possibly Lion OS 10.7

  • Manually installing...do we need to have pevious Firefox versions installed before installing the latest version?

We have found many versions ...NOTE: We perfer manual install...not auto updating.
    Firefox 3.0.15,
    Firefox 3.5.2,
    Firefox 3.5.5,
    Firefox 3.6.10,
    Firefox 3.6.6,
    Firefox 3.6.9,
    Firefox 7.0.1,
    Firefox 8.0.1,
    Firefox 9.0.1,
    Firefox 10.0,
    Firefox 10.0.1,
    Firefox 11.0,
    Firefox 12.0,
    Firefox 14.01.
Could you please confirm whether we have to manually upgrade all the versions before manually installing the latest version (15.0.1).
    Please clarify.

If you are updating you only need to install the latest version of Firefox (15.0.1, but 16 is being released tomorrow). Once you are updated though, you should be able to use the internal updater, it does just as good of a job.
