Should i invest in mackeeper?

I recently converted from a PC to a Macbook Pro. Do i need to invest in an antivirus program?

NO... Do NOT install Mackeeper...
In General 3rd Party AV Software is Not Required as Mac OS X tends to look after itself.

  • Should I invest in Toast for burning video?

I have FCP Studio 7 and am wondering if I should invest in Toast Titanium Pro for better quality video. I currently burn DVD's in SD quality -using DVD Studio and they are shown on non-blu-ray DVD equipment. Since I shoot the footage in AVCHD I an always a bit disappointed in the quality of the end result.
I make the project in FCP using Prores422, send to Compressor for best quality 2 pass rendering and then upload into DVD Studio to burn.
    Thank you,
    Sandra

    Hi -
I use Toast to burn HD material to regular DVD-R blanks in the Blu-Ray format and it works fine. Some issues you need to be aware of are:
    1) You will need to play the disc you create using this method only in a Blu-Ray set-top player.
    2) Not all Blu-Ray set-top players will play "home made" Blue Ray discs, espcially older Blu-Ray players.
    3) Because the storage capacity of a DVD blank is less than a Blu-Ray blank, consequently you will only be able to put shorter length videos in the Blu-Ray format on a DVD blank.
    4) Many people are not overly thrilled with the menu style options you have in Toast. I usually burn the disc without menus, having it start to play automatically on insertion.
    Hope this helps.

  • Should i download the mackeeper for my mac?

  • I have had Norton for years but should I switch to Mackeeper and is it better?

My anti virus renewal is due soon and am wondering if I should stay with the basic Norton which I have for years or switch to Mackeeper?  Which one is better and will speed up my desktop computer as it tends to be slow and the colored cursor is annoying.

Norton Antivirus has a very long and illustrious reputation for mangling Mac OS X systems, sometimes to the point where a complete reinstall is necessary. Among other things, it installs kernel extensions which are known to cause kernel panics and system freezes; it contains known and documented bugs which can silently corrupt Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign files, destroy a user's ability to authenticate as an administrator, and (on PPC systems) can cause Classic to stop functioning; and Symantec has on at least two occasions now released flawed .dat file updates which erroneously report certain critical Mac OS X files as "viruses." (Deleting these "viruses" causes damage to the system that in some cases renders it unbootable.)

  • As a teacher, what should I invest my time and money learning?

I am teaching high school photography next fall and want to be certified in Photoshop.  I'm fairly comfortable working in Elements 12 but wondering if I should study CS 6 and join the creative cloud? Any suggestions on where I can get the training online?  Thank you

If you are teaching HighSchool photography - then odds are pretty good that your students will have Photoshop (one way or another) and be relatively familiar with it already (at least for posting to instagram/pinterest/facebook).  Talking down to them and trying to teach Elements might not go over well.
(I know my niece's middle school taught Photoshop classes - which still feels weird from a "wait, they're teaching MY works and quoting ME in middle school!" perspective)
For online training, I'd start at lynda.com
There are several other sites with online training, and conferences/seminars with training in a variety of Photoshop uses, plus a lot of books ("Photoshop for Photographers" by Martin Evening would be a good tome to start with).  Many community colleges also teach classes in basic Photoshop usage - but the quality of those classes varies pretty widely.

  • Should I invest in the Mac Warranty program?

I'm thinking of purchasing a MacBook and wanted to know if the warranty program is worth the $250 investment? I ccurently use an Acer with Vista and I have a broken mousepad and have been having problems with Windows mail and with space on my data drive. I'm hoping to have better luck with a Mac but I've been reading here about problems folks are having and I'm wondering if a Mac is worth the extra $$. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    B

the macbook is so poorly designed, with all kind of unexpected problems I never imagined would happen to an apple computer, that yes, it's a must.
I would recommend reconsider the macbook thou, i own the late 2006 blackbook and after 18 months the problems started to show up: cracked case, wake up from sleep every 20 seconds or so draining the battery out, unexpected shuts downs with low battery, bluetooth not available every 5 minutes, isight unavailable from time to time, and that's for me. In the last 2 months it's been an avalange of all the problems I didn't experience for 17 months, being, during that time happy with my notebook. I use this crappy notebook almost never now, just when I have a presentation away from the office, where i have a mac pro sitting in my desk, at least for now, without any problems, but with apple care, something i missed with the notebook.
want a tip? flickr crackbook and have at least a look to what happens with the case. They'll replace it, the first time it's almost funny, but the third,in two months... isn't funny anymore goin back again and again to the store.
apple computers simply works, yep, but for a while, after that, if u don't have apple care say goodbye to ur investment.
I hope someone warned me about this, that's why i'm taking my time, buy a macbook at your own risk, and consider the 250 extra for the apple care part of the price of the computer.
    good luck

  • IMovie to FCE - should I invest?

I am quickly outgrowing iMovie, but I have concerns about stepping up to FCE. Below are three frustrating problems in iMovie - there are many unresolved posts regarding these issues. Can anyone tell me if they've experienced the same problems in FCE?
    Thanks.
    1. Blurred / pixelated titles: Adding titles looks great in iMovie, but when I export, even in "full quality", the titles become blurred, pixelated, and look very unprofessional. Does FCE look better?
    2. Adding transitions causes audio/video sync issues: When adding, say, a "cross dissolve" in iMovie to two video clips (call them clip A and clip B), clip B shifts significantly - by 18 frames - causing obvious sync issues. I've read a lot in the FCE discussions about "handles", but can someone tell me if this iMovie problem exists in FCE? I do a lot of music video editing, so the audio/video must stay in sync for transitions.
    3. Moving clips around / deleting clip - audio doesn't go with the clip: Say I've exctracted audio for Clip B (I always extract audio so I can create volume fades). I decide to cut off one second at the beginning of clip B. I highlight that one second and hit "delete". The video shifts to butt up against clip A, but the audio does not. Does FCE do this as well?
    Thanks again for your help.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    I'm a whiz kid, I guess.
I went to college for video production having no experience whatsoever. I didn't even know what Firewire, miniDV or an NLE was. My first project ever I cut together was on Final Cut Pro 3 after getting about a 15 minute demonstration from a professor.
Looking back on it, I spent a lot of time on getting the basics down, and the project was crap. But just spending the time with program put me way ahead of my classmates when I took my first actual production class.
In fact, I was never really able to get the hang of iMovie. The lack of in and out points, the bizarre switch between camera and playback mode, the obnoxious way it handles audio tracks just left me so frustrated (I'm sure some of this has changed in recent versions).
My point is, I don't think FCE is the more difficult program. Yes, it is more intimidating, because it doesn't hold your hand. But don't let that fool you, because you might have a lot of "Oh!" moments where something in FCE makes a lot more sense than it ever did in iMovie. It's just a matter of switching to a new way of thinking about cutting. I honestly don't think it's hard, just different.
And remember, the manual is your friend.

  • RIFE/continuations - should I invest the time or is there another toolkit?

    RIFE/Continuations bills itself:
    What are Continuations?
A continuation encapsulates the state and program location of an execution thread so that the execution state associated with the thread may be paused and then resumed at some arbitrary time later, and in any thread.
I also note that RIFE's last update was in 2007. Is this because like tomcat/glassfish or eclipse/netbeans there is something that acts like RIFE/Continuations which is a Sun Java technology?

And none of them seem to have the continuations 'feature'. That could be because no others think such is important, its too hard, patent encumbered, or Sun has that feature set as part of what Sun has released.

  • I have a macbook mid 2007 should i up trade it in for a newer macbook pro

I have a macbook refurbished mid 2007 should i update it for a newer version or a macbook pro?

I have the late 2007 model also, and I am pulling my hair bcause I cannot run anything newer than the Snow Leopard OS, which leaves me with no cloud connectivity, and I cannot run the new iLife... which leaves my iPhone and iPad out of sync (calendars, etc!), and I cannot use my Pages, Numbers, etc on my laptop.
If you just need a machine that is not quite so old and sluggish, you should absolutely invest in more RAM, perhaps a bigger or an additional external hard drive, depending on use.
If you have any other iDevice that uses the newest iOS, do yourself a favor, and if possible, get that new laptop.

  • Which photoshop version should i use?

    Hi,
I have been looking over the different Photoshop options and i am lost.
basically i am a cartoonist starting out, so i cannot buy the biggest package, but i need a Photoshop package that will allow me to do animation and all things included with that.
Any assistance would be great. Thank you

    Good day!
If you are serious about animation maybe you should not invest time in learning how to do it in Photoshop but focus on more specialised software. (edited)
This Forum seems to be pretty inactive
    Animation tips and tricks
but I expect there are plenty of non-adobe-maintained Fora on animation.
Are you intending to do "classic" or 3D animation?

  • Any Apple product equivalent to mackeeper for cleaning features?

My Mac Air was very slow and I tried mackeeper for cleaning and it worked. I would like to know if Apple has something similar because I would prefer to use an Apple product

It's best to describe the problem, if you have one, in as much relevant detail as possible, rather than what you think is causing it or how you think it should be solved. "MacKeeper" and all similar products are scams.

  • Swing vs AWT (which should I learn?)

I am writting an mp3 player in Java. I am fairly new to Java as all I know is the programming language; I do not know how to make a GUI. I want to make a cross platform mp3 player that should run on mac, windows and Linux. I also want to use some custom buttons made in Photoshop.
Should I invest time in learning Swing or AWT?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello,
this depends on how far You intend to go with "customizing". Swing leaves a few things to the Operating System e.g. Windows or Linux. My swing apps look different under Linux than they do under Windows, because the Frame in which these apps are are drawn is administered by the OP System. On the other hand if customizing means for example changing the java cup icon upper left or changing the Title of the frame, then You will have no problems. More generally spoken: nearly everything can be done as long as You stay with the possibilities You have (Buttons, TextField, Bars ... have a look at the Swing Platfrom !).

  • Should i buy airport

I have internet thru the local cable company.  They supply the modem and network connector.  Should I invest in airport any way?  I do have apple tv, imac, ipad, and iphone.  wanting to make everything as fast and effiecient as possible, but am unclear as to what the airport actually does...

If your modem/router already provides a wireless network, then adding another wireless network will not produce much value, unless you need another network for the kids or guests.
If you are unhappy with your current wireless modem/router, you could turn off the wirelss function on the device and connect an Apple AirPort router to provide the wireless signal.
Whether or not this would offer any significant improvement really cannot be predicted.

  • Capture from Sony HVR-Z1U

I have recently purchased a Sony Z1U and was unable to capture in FCE4. I later found out that FCE4 will only capture from the Z1U in DV mode and NOT in HDV. Why is this? Is all my HDV media useless now that I have FCE4? Should I only shoot in DV mode from now on? I also have a small Sony HRD-CX7. Will FCE4 capture from this device?
Any help for this newbie would be appreciated!

"do not connect to the computer. Connect it to the hard drive so they are on a single FireWire chain. The computer will have difficulty passing information back and forth on FW when there are multiple devices on multiple ports but on a single bus"
In theory this may be true, however my external drive only has (2) 1394b ports. My camera has (1) four pin 1394a port that converts to a six pin 1394a through the cable assembly. There is no way to chain these components together (via my external drive anyways) as far as I can see. Is this a critical issue? Should I invest in a different drive? I guess I could connect to my ED via esata using an express card. Would this approach lessen the load on the FW bus during capture and delegate a separate bus for ED control?
    Any thoughts on this?
