Should I join the domain with my new server 2008 R2 before I run dcpromo for ADC ?

Hi Team,
Should I join the domain with my new server 2008 R2 before I run dcpromo ?
Brand new server, 2008 r2. I want it to eventually be my forest root. Should I go ahead and join it to the
domain as just a member server and then do all the ? Should I run adprep before I join the domain? I'm only asking about member server at this point...before dcpromo.
Most of the posts I have seen relating to installing Additional Domain Controller (ADC) onto a domain, state
that the machine they are starting with is NOT a member of the domain.  In my case, the machine I want to make an ADC is already a member of the domain.

  • Joining a Domain on my new server

I've just set up my AD domain on Windows Server 2008 R2. I've added users to domains before but right
now I'm completely blanking on what steps I've missed. Basically so far I have ran DCPROMO and set up my FQDN, the computer name is server and lets say the FQDN is myserver.com , i've set up a static address of 192.168.0.25, dns and default gateway are 192.168.0.1
on the server. I've added dhcp roles, my scope is 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.55. Does this seem ok so far? Now the point I need help on, I have a windows 8 laptop and to test the server/domain I wanted to try and join it, what do I need to do? Before I used virtual
box so had a seperate client machine but still have some issues I recall. I tried simply changing my laptop to be a member of the domain and entered the domain name but I get the error about an active directory for "myserver.com" could not be contacted.
    What steps am I missing?

I don't want to get into creating a Click-by-Click walk through for all that off the top of my head.  I can give details to get you going in the right direction but you need to search out the smaller details on your own,...or use the Help that is already
built into all of these MS products.
Your home Router already determines the IP Range you use.  I'm guessing it uses 192.168.0.1 for itself. That is a very common one, but it could be something else. You'll have to check that yourself.
Turn off DHCP on the home router since it won't be needed for that anymore. Once the DC is in place it will take over that job with it's DHCP Service. You can't have two DHCP Services running at the same time on the LAN without making special accommodations,...which
there is no point in getting into that here.
Assuming the home router is using 192.168.0.1 then give the DC something like 192.168.0.10
Once the DC is promoted and the DHCP Service on the DC is up and running,...use the whole range for the Scope (ex. 192.168.0.1 thru 192.168.0.254).
Then set an Exclusion for, say, the first 20 addresses (192.168.0.1 thru 192.168.0.20). This means that DHCP on the DC will begin with 192.168.0.21 as the first address when it starts assigning them to clients.
Within the DHCP Service add the DC's IP# for the DHCP Options pertaining to WINS and DNS. Set these at the Server Level, not the Scope Level because they will always be true even if you had other IP Segments with other clients there (which you won't, but
    I'm teaching a principle here).
In DHCP at the Scope Level add the "Router" DHCP Option which will be the IP# of the home router.  If you had other network segments (which you won't) then each segment would be associated with a different DHCP Scope and have a different "router"
IP#,...hence why it needs to be a Scope Level option.
WINS needs no setup,...if it is installed and running it will "just work".
At the point where DNS, DHCP, and WINS are running then clients will get the address config from DHCP automatically when they boot up (before a user even logs in) and DNS and WINS will start populating with the Client Details.  In some cases DNS may
not populate until the Client actually joins the domain. There are settings within the DNS Service that alter that behavor.
On the DC when you open the tool Active Directory Users and Computers,...you will see Active Directory will start populating Clients as they join the domain and they will initially be listed in the Computers "container" until you manually
move them somewhere else.  Users created in Active Directory will initially be listed in the Users "container" until you move them somewhere else.

  • WinXP computers can't join the domain

Hi, I'm setting up my first Xserve and I'm having troubles making WinXP machines join the domain.
With OS X and Win98 clients I have no problems with the tests accounts I have created, but with with WinXP machines I get the error that they can't Join the domain becouse Access is Denied. I don't think is a configuration error on the server's services or the WinXP boxes becouse I can join the domain and access the account for diradmin OK from the WinXP boxes, so it may be an account configuration problem.
Also the accounts have network home folders, don't know if this might also cause a problem, I did try with no home assigned and still got the same error.
    Any help would be appreciated

    Fixed the problem myself....
Creted a new account and dindn't move anything on it, nothing managed and nothing changed on the account windows tab.
Joined the domain with the diradmin account, and after the reboot used the new test user, logged in fine and home folder was mounted as a Network drive perfectly.
Hope this helps someone in the future

  • Workstations not Joining the Domain after OSD

I have a sporadic problem happening in my Environment.   OSD Deployments for the most part finish successful , workstation joins the domain with no issues.   At certain locations  occasionally the workstation does not join the
domain.     Have you seen this happen before?  are there logs on the DC or DP which might explain why this is happening?

While you are at it grab setupact.log and setuperr.log from two locations, c:\windows\panther and c:\windows\panther\unattendGC. These logs will give more details on why the domain join fails.

  • Upgrading windows server 2003 domain controller to windows server 2008

    Hello friedns :
We have a company with about 2000 users , and two windows server 2003 domain controllers , one of them acts as a primary domain controller , and the other acts as secondary domain controller , all the FSMO s are on the primary DC ,we have decided to upgrade all of our servers from windows server 2003 to windows server 2008 , the first step is to upgrade the domain controllers to windows server 2008 , our domain controllers are so sensitive and has to be active 24 hours a day , i have stress upgrading it to windows server 2008 , what is the best solution to upgrade it with no risk ?
( i have an opinion but i am not sure and i dont have any guide about it , i want to install a windows server 2008 and promote it as an additional domain controller to the windows server 2003 DC and the transfer all the FSMOs to it , and then promote the first domain controller !!! is that possible ? if yes , is there any guide about it? )
If there is a guide available for it please let me know . (Specially if there is a tip & trick)
    thank you guys.

    Hi,
This TechNet online article might be helpful for you.
How to Upgrade Domain Controllers to Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee522994(WS.10).aspx
For your convenience, I have list some general steps for your reference.
Since the following operation have potential damage to Active Directory database, it is highly suggested that you'd better perform a full backup of Active Directory (System State) firstly. Also it is better to test the following procedure in a similar lab environment first.
    General Steps:
    =============
    1. Verify the new server's TCP/IP configuration has been pointed to the current DNS server.
    2. Make the new server become a member server of the current Windows Server 2003 domain first.
    3. Upgrade the Windows Server 2003 forest schema to Windows Server 2008 schema with the "adprep /forestprep" command on old server.
Please run the "adprep.exe /forestprep" command from the Windows Server 2008 installation disk on the schema master. To do this, insert the Windows Server 2008 installation disk, and then type the following command:
    Drive:\sources\ADPREP\adprep.exe /forestprep
    4. Upgrade the Windows 2003 domain schema with the "adprep /domainprep" command on old server.
Please run the "adprep.exe /domainprep" command from the Windows Server 2008 installation disk on the infrastructure master. To do this, insert the Windows Server 2008 installation disk, and then type the following command:
    Drive:\sources\ADPREP \adprep.exe /domainprep
    5. Insert Windows Server 2008 Installation Disc in the new server.
    6. Run "dcpromo" on new server to promote it as an additional domain controller in existing Windows 2003 domain, afterwards you may verify the installation of Active Directory.
    Please refer to:
How to Verify an Active Directory Installation in Windows Server 2003
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816106
    7. Verify the new server's TCP/IP configuration has been pointed to current DNS server.
    8. Enable Global Catalog on new server and manually Check Replication Topology and afterwards manually trigger replication (Replicate Now) to synchronize Active Directory database between 2 replicas.
Please note: It will some time to replicate GC between DC, please wait some time with patience.
    9. Disable Global Catalog on the old DC.
    10. Transfer all the FSMO roles from the old DC to the new DC.
    Please refer to:
How to view and transfer FSMO roles in Windows Server 2003
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324801
    11. Verify that the old DNS Server Zone type is Active Directory-Integrated. If not, please refer to:
How To: Convert DNS Primary Server to Active Directory Integrated
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816101
Note: Active Directory Integrated-Zone is available only if DNS server is a domain controller.
    12. Install DNS component on new server and configure it as a new DNS Server (Active Directory Integrated-Zone is preferred). All the DNS configuration should be replicated to the new DNS server with Active Directory Replication.
    13. Make all the clients change TCP/IP configuration to point to new server as DNS.
    14. You may configure TCP/IP on all the clients, or adjust DHCP scope settings to make them use the new DNS server.
Please note: It is a good practice to make the old DC offline for several days and check whether everything works normally with the new server online. If so, you may let the old DC online and run DCPROMO to demote it.
    Hope it helps.

  • Windows 7 not joining to domain with SCCM OSD Task sequence

Iam having trouble with Windows 7 deployment through SCCM, where the systems dont get joined to the domain if the system name is not already present in the AD.
If I have the system name already in AD it works fine also Iam able to join the system to the domain with the same account Iam using in SCCM TS for domain join.
Searched around and not able to find a resolution. I checked the setupact.log and found the follwoing messages.

It is possible.  You could do this with either a script or Task Sequence steps.  If you go the TS route, use 'Set Task Sequence Variable' and set the MachineObjectOU variable equal to OU=ABC,DC=Contoso,DC=COM or whatever with the condition (on
the Options tab for the Step) Select * from Win32_ComputerSystem WHERE Name LIKE 'ABC%'
And that should do it for you.

  • WDS clients not joining the domain

    Hi all
Recently set up a 2012R2 server in our domain as a WDS server. After syspreping Win7 x64 with an unattend file and capturing images the machines just don't want to join the domain, after windows install it gets to the "Applying system settings"
and hangs for 15 minutes (while i assume it tried to join the domain) then eventually restarts but with no domain join, everything else in the unattend file works fine bar the domain join. I've tried with secure join and unsecure join but none work. Using
no unattend file the domain join works fine.
I've searched every forum and tried various methods to get this working but still no joy.
    Can anyone suggest anything?
    Thanks

    HI ,
    please read this link :

  • Could not provision the RemoteApp collection. Error: Could not join the domain. Unable to reach the domain.

    Hi
I am trying to set up an Azure RemoteApp Hybrid solution.
I have created RemoteApp net and uploaded a custom image and all that is fine.
When I link my template to my Collection it fails after provisioning for about an hour.
I recive the following message: Could not provision the RemoteApp collection. Error: Could not join the domain. Unable to reach the domain.
The join domin works fine and I have tryed with account with different lvl of access to my AD.
Any suggestion how to solve this?

    Hello Eric,
I am landing into the same Problem and i read your guidance on this issue. Let me answer it point by point.
    1. Check the VPN state to ensure it is active or connected state:
Sundesh:My Azure RemoteApp Virtual Network after successfull S2S configuration shows as Ready. Is that what you mean by Connected State? Earlier to S2S, it was just under connecting state.
    2. Verify your VNET configurations have proper IP address ranges
Sundesh: The VNET address range, the Local address range and DNS has already been verified twice. In fact the same address ranges(with exception to VNET) are working fine on a VENT config on Azure VM instance. Verified.
    3. Verify your DNS IP configurations are valid, (often this is the problem)
Sundesh: Yes its done and verified
    4. Verify the credentials entered for domain join are valid.
Sundesh: Tested these credentials by joining a regular Azure VM to domain and it works there.
    5. Make sure your VPN endpoint that Azure RemoteApp service is connecting to is not blocking traffic.
Sundesh: Can you please let us know the specific port numbers that we need to consider and i can have it checked with the Network team
    Thanks

I recently purchased a brand new Airport Time Capsule 2TB. I already am using the previous generation time capsule to back up all my computers data. May I ask how can I complement the usage with my new time capsule?

By default your new Time Capsule will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN
Most likely your iMacs will be connected to the wireless network created by the Virgin Media router. However, both should see the Apple Network under the AirPort icon's drop-down menu as another wireless network that they can connect to. Is this not the case?

If the answer to the above question is "yes", FIRST, set up a backup of your new computer before you do anything else so the next time your computer breaks you will not be in the same situation. Backup solutions are numerous and inexpensive, and there is absolutely no excuse in the Third Millennium not to have one.

  • How do I replace the organiser with a new one

How do I replace the organiser with a new one

The problem is to understand your question (or your two questions : do you both mean the same thing ?)
An answer to Hatstead question would help.
1 - Do you really mean using another software to organize your workflow ?
2 - Do you mean using other softwares based on folders rather than databases ?
3 - Or do you mean working with different catalogs ?
If you don't want to use the Organizer, it's not possible to 'delete' it, but it is simple not to use it.
Most other organizing solutions include the choice of selecting PSE editor as the external editor
There are various solutions depending on your platform : Windows, Mac, Linux...
It's important to know if you prefer the folders or database organization to suggest possible solutions.

  • F110 - An email should go to the vendor with payment details?

    Hi
    Friends,
When payment is done through F110, an email should go to the vendor with the payment details. The vendor email stored in master record.
I done entire configuration BTE (Business Transaction events) I checked FBZP - country/company code it is showing correctly.
Form for the Payment Advice - ZF110_US_AVIS
    Payment medium program - RFFOD__U
Form for the Payment Medium - ZF110_US_AVIS
I posted FB60, F110, But am not getting an email in T code SOST.
Kindly help me where I gone wrong?
My Functional module name is ZF_F110_PROCESS_00002040
    Thanks

    Hi Anil,
check this may be useful for you...
There is a custom table YFEMAIL_PAYADV maintained in sm30. This table contains Flags for Emails and Fax for each combination of Company Code and Payment Method.
Every time a Payment Advice is sought to be generated after executing F110 transaction this BTE is triggered. The Function module attached to this BTE then checks the combination of the Company code and Payment method from the REGUH table in the custom table YFEMAIL_PAYADV. If the flag for email is checked for the given combination, it would trigger an email to the recipient, maintained in the vendor master data. If email address is missing in Vendor Master Data, it will check for the Fax flag. If the Fax Flag is checked in the custom table, it would send the fax to the Fax number maintained in the Vendor Master. If the Fax number is missing as well in the vendor master, a print out of the Payment Advice is generated.
However, if the email flag is not maintained for a combination of the Company code and Payment method in the custom table, the system would exit from the Function Module.
    Master Data Maintenance :
u2022The email address of the recipient should be maintained in the vendor master and the
Notes ID u2018PAYADVu2019 should be maintained just next to the recipient the mail is intended to be sent. The first email address (with the radio button) is the default email address used by the system to send other documents (like P.O etc). The email address where Notes ID is u2018PAYADVu2019 will be used to email the Payment Advice. Hence this care needs to be taken while maintaining the email addresses in the Vendor Master.
    Variant for the Payment Program:-
The checkbox for u2018Print payment advice notesu2019 in the variant attached should be checked.
    Check the SAP Connect gateway - T.code : S0SB or S0SG
Technical settings in SAP Connect :-
The email addresses and fax numbers of the Vendors would be activated in SAP Connect so that emails or facsimile could be sent from R3 to external systems. Using the Transaction u2018SCOTu2019 the nodes u2018SMTPu2019 for Emails
