Should I keep waiting for the Burn to complete?
I Have a 2 hour movie in iDVD 5.0.1 with theme (The rear window of a car) and Scene selection etc. It cranked through :
1. Prepare
2. Process Menus
3. Process Slideshows
4. Process Movies
this all took 9 or 10 hours
5. BURN - Retrieving and Preparing Project .
This has been on the last 1/8 of an inch of the progress bar for 36 hours.
The Burn icon in the lower right is still spinning.
When I hit the Force Quit it DOES NOT say it is not responding as I have seen in the past.
Do I keep going or start over? I have iDVD 6 on an exterbal HD, I could try or maybe a different theme in iDVD 5.
One more thing, I have Burned this iMovie in Toast in 9 hours and I am using a TDK DVD+R DL. I burned with toast on a Verbatim but that obviously did not have the iDVD theme I wanted. I have TDK , Memorex and Verbatim DVD+R DL.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
LargeAL
Bengt,
I have not been able to burn an iDVD yet in iDVD 5 or iDVD 6.
I suspected the length was just a bit too long (2hours 20 min) but I can burn in Toast all day long. It is much simpilar themes etc , but still Toast crank it out on 8 hours.
One othe question: If the burn never completes and I force quit after days is mt DVD+R DL still burnable? Is the dic unusable?
I have and awesome looking movie in iDVD/iMovie and would really like to burn it. Should I split it up into 1.5 hour chuncks? I hate to do that but I have spent weeks off and on trying to burn in iDVD.

I accidentally left the cap of my water bottle open then threw it on my bed, the next minute a small puddle had surrounded my macbook air, so i took it immediately and shut it down. I waited for it to dry over night so then this morning i decided to try to turn it on but it wouldnt turn on at all! just should i keep waiting for it to dry then turn it on or is there no chance at all!
Also i have not yet told my parents because they would kill me as they got me this macbook as a well-done-on-your-grades reward!I understand and sympathize with you.
But from a technical point of view, liquid damage is progressive.
If I had other helpful tips, I would have shared those with you.

Just got an iMac. I am trying to use Migration Assistant. The Mac side seems to be doing it's job, but my PC just keeps "Waiting for the Mac to connect." For over an hour.
Probably a PC issue, you can try calling AppleCare, you are covered for 90 days from the date of purchase and can find the phone number in the owners manual. Also please look over:

Thomas,
It would also be extremely helpful to those trying to help you if you complted your Profile so we at least know what iMac and version of OS X is installed. Click Your Stuff in the upper right then click Profile and complete the necessary fields including what part of the planet you're located. -
I tried to import 2 photos from an email to iphoto. The photos now appear in iphoto as the latest imports, However, when I try to close iphoto or log off of my computer, I get a message box that says, " Photos are being imported to the photo library. Please wait for the import to complete."
I can't get out of iphoto or log off of my computer, or turn the computer off. How do I stop the import or log out of iphoto???Try Force-quit from the Apple-menu to close iPhoto.

I downloaded a microsoft remote desktop application and tried to download my office mac and the installer keeps saying waiting for other installations to complete. So i thought i needed a restart and the installer won't shut down either. is this normal?
Immediate problem solved. After force quitting the Software Update app., iPhoto 9.2 appears to have been successfully installed and functional. Unable to say if future S/W updates will encounter any problems. Thanks for all consideration. Item closed.

Should I have waited for the Clovertowns?
I have ordered a mid-range MP with the X1900. .. knowing that the quad chips will be here at year end. Typically, I would expect to see Apple turn the high end into a Dual-Quad and keep the lower 2 at single quads...for a while..then make the mid a dual quad also.
But this is new territory and I'm wondering if you guys think the quads will be available beginning of year..low/mid and high.
Should I have waited...:) or do we actually think Apple is going to release a firmware update down the road that will allow us to upgrade these first towers??
12 PB Mac OS X (10.4.7)As far as I understand it the Clovertown processors, due to Intel rush to be moving forward, are not a true quad-core processor rather two dual-core processors on the same die. While having an 8-core system does sound pretty cool the real performance benefits of 4 more cores is at the moment debateable.
Should you have waited? Probably not. By waiting you'll be pushing back your purchase a minimum of 6 months, which is assuming a quad-core processor make it into the next Mac Pro, which means you'll be with a Mac Pro for that time. Put a price on that.
I remember the large number of people who were waiting on PowerBook G5s… the ones that never appeared. There's always something better around the corner and it really comes down to how many corners you're prepared to go around. I know for myself I wasn't prepared to wait till next year to buy a Mac Pro even though it's made me buy a first revision. -
Should I have waited for the thunderbolt imac?
This year, a few weeks before the 2011 imac came out I bought a new imac 2010. I loved using my new imac compared to old macintoshes. (imac g3 mouse night mare). I then heard that a few weeks after the purchase of my new imac that a new imac came out-with thunderbolt.
As a video editor for my show I was wondering if thunderbolt is important. Do I absolutely need to have thunderbolt? Will every device require thunderbolt?
As you can't modify or add internal hardware to an imac, I'm wondering if should I will regret my decision to buy a new imac just before a new version came out. But then again, I feel like everytime I buy something from my favourite IT company Apple is great when you first use it, but feels like an expensive paperweight when a new apple product comes out. (think apple ipods). So, should I have waited?At least for now there are no Thunderbolt peripherals available. And the first ones that will come will most likely cost more then any USB/FireWire variant they have now.
So Thunderbolt will become (hopefully) more important in about 1/2 years from now. Unless you want to be one of the firsts and prepared to the premium price.
For instance Lacie announced a Thunderbolt diskdrive. But to make sure that the disk can also write/read at the massive speeds that Thunderbolt is promising, they realized that this disk must be SSD. Of course an SSD disk is not bad at all, but it still very expensive. -
My iCloud system is dead and does not move at all. It showed loading and there is nothing comming up. I can't log off or do anything. Only an minimise it But it came up again when I turn on my MacBook Air again. How can I turn off the iCloud again. Pleae help anyone.
Perform a SMC reset:

If that brings some life into the MBP, you may look at this if necessary:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
If no success, bring it to an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.

Contract ending soon...wait for the iPhone 5?
My contract ends on 6/4/11 and I'm thinking about waiting until the summer to see if there will be a Verizon iPhone 5 since I don't want to buy the iPhone 4 now and have it be obsolete within a few months.
If the iPhone 5 does come out later on in June or July, my contract will already be over. I've heard that contracts continue on a month-by-month basis if you don't cancel it but I can't find any specific info on the site. Is that true?
Suggestions?a couple of ways to look at this, of course this is amongst the dozens of threads already discussing this
1. "IF" a new one comes out in june the iphone 4 is not obsolete, it is still a great, fast phone that will continue to get updates as Apple releases them
2. Buy now, if a new one comes out in june, you can get like $400 or so on ebay and buy the new one
3. there is most likely a new iphone coming for att in June, NO ONE knows if it will be for Verizon also, so you may be waiting for absolutely nothing
4. and the most obvious most given answer, If you keep waiting for the next best thing, you will never own anything
My other phone, the droid inc is older then the iphone 4, A LOT of droid phone have been released after it and my Inc is still not even close to being obsolete, it runs fine.
Maybe at this point I finally will say the iphone 3g, not 3gs, is almost obsolete because 4.2 killed it and it's terribly slow, that phone is almost 3 years old and its just becoming obsolete, I still sold it however for almost $200 on ebay so it still holds the value, I sold it for what i paid 2 years later -
Javascript: Wait for a redirect to complete - creating multiple PDF's
Hi!
Here is the code that I am using to try to generate multiple reports from javascript. how do I wait for the redirect to complete (ie. generate the PDF) before redirecting to generate the next PDF?
In the code the "F106_" are application level items.
I get have been able to get the very first or the very last PDF but none of the other PDF's.
<script type="text/javascript">
function f_DoReport() {
for (i = 2; i <= 3; i++)
for (j = 1; j <= 4; j++)
var rgn = '0' + i;
var dst = '0' + j;
var vurl = 'f?p=&APP_ID.:30:&SESSION.:FLOW_XMLP_OUTPUT_R27022113101536736_en-us:&DEBUG.::';
vurl += 'F106_RPT_REGION,F106_RPT_DISTRICT:' + rgn + ',' + dst;
redirect(vurl);
alert('rgn: ' + rgn + ' dst: ' + dst);
</script>Please let me know if I am going down the wrong path here. :D
As always thanks for your time and help!
Dave VenusA few questions…
Do you want a script that works with just the active document and you are going to run 300+ times? If so then this may do…
#target illustrator
function artboardsToPDFs() {
if (app.documents.length = 0) {
reurn;
} else {
var docRef = app.activeDocument;
var docName = docRef.name;
var baseName = docName.replace(/.ai$/,'');
var dF = docRef.path.fsName;
var aB = docRef.artboards;
var pdfOpts = new PDFSaveOptions();
pdfOpts.pDFPreset = '[Press Quality]';
for (var i = 0; i < aB.length; i++) {
var numb = (i+1).toString();
pdfOpts.artboardRange = numb;
var pad = aB.length.toString().length;
numb = zeroPad(i+1, pad);
var pdfFile = File(dF + '/' + baseName + '_' + numb + '.pdf');
if (!pdfFile.exists) {
docRef.saveAs(pdfFile, pdfOpts);
} else {
var rPDF = confirm('File: "' + pdfFile.name + '" already exists…\rDo you wish to replace?',false);
if (rPDF) {
docRef.saveAs(pdfFile, pdfOpts);
} else {
continue;
artboardsToPDFs();
function zeroPad(n, p) {
var t = n.toString();
while (t.length < p) {t = '0' + t};
return t;
Do you want to pick a folder of all the illustrator files? If this is the case I would need more info and it would take longer… -
Does WPF waits for GPU present to complete?
I'm testing how frequently WPF display can change when I have one window per monitor. My frame rate isn't amazing, and using xperf and GPUView it looks like WPF prepares both windows and then calls "Present packet" on both at the same time, and
waits for both to complete before moving on to send the next frames to the video card. I think my frame rate could have been faster if WPF didn't wait for the present to complete on both displays. When I run two WPF processes, each with one window on
one monitor, the present packets are independent, so parallel processing is more efficient and the frame rate is higher.
Did anyone observe the same behavior? Is there a flag I can set to make the WPF windows of one process more independent?Hello Shir Oren,
I'm confused about those monitors, do you mean you have a computer with a few monitors?
Then "When I run two WPF processes" can you briefly introduce it here? Different applications on different monitor? Do you actually mean thread but not process here?
Actually WPF can take advantage of both Hardware and Software Rendering Pipeline, for details please refer to MSDN article:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb613578(v=vs.110).aspx
I'm not sure whether there is a flag you metioned but I haven't found it at this time. So I recommend you focus on the exist WPF render tiers from here
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms742196(v=vs.110).aspx to consider raise your performance.

Barry

So im a little confused, i dont know what macbook should i get.
I want a macbook for:
surf the web
Do some school work like powerpoint, excel, word etc.
store music and pictures
This macbook i will probably have it for like 3 years so i wanna make sure the macbook i choose will last.
I really would like a macbook pro but the thing is that i`ve have been hearing that a new generation of retina macbook pros will be coming this fall so i wanna know your opinion if it is worth waiting for the next gen of macbooks.
thanksFor what your doing, a $400 PC laptop will do and if it gets lost or stolen (as long as you make backups) it's really no big deal. Buy another.
A Mac will set you back almost $2000 for the same performance by the time you thrown in the 3 year warranty, tax and backup drives etc.
The higher end Mac's closer to $3000.
Also after 3 years after spending so much money you want to fix it to keep it going, a cheap PC you just get a new one.
In some instances it's not smart to get a Mac, they are often a target for theft and if your young, your prey. -
How do I call the subvi in parallel with main VI. Main vi should not wait for the subvi
I have a subvi which takes the parameters like port name, transmit rate, message to transmit over serial port and Start/stop flag. This subvi calls VISA write vi in a loop continuously, till the Start/Stop flag is false, to write a message to serial port at a mentioned transmit rate. This subvi will be called from another VI. Actual intension is to transmit different messages to different ports continuously and stop them when required. In this senario, please provide solution for below points:
1. How do I call the subvi in parallel with main VI. Main vi should not wait for the subvi.
2. How does main vi can control already running subvi in parallel to it. In the above example I would like to start the subvi from main vi when start\stop flag is true and would like to stop it when the flag is false.
3. How do I call the subVI with one set of parameters from main vi, when same subVI is running with other set of parameters already from main vi(subvi being called in a case with different set of parameters each time when the case is called). Means, how do I keep track of reentrant subvi (different calls to same vi)from the same main vi.Hi Dharani24,

iPad 2
Well, it depends how long you can wait. We can't discuss rumors on here about release dates.
Look at what you actually need though and decide how soon you need something.
What you'll want to realize is that every year or two something new will come out.. so you have to learn to fight off the "I need the new one" bug if you want to be satisfied with your purchase. At your age you probably won't get the opportunity to upgrade for a while, so you'll have to learn to live with your purchase decision longer.
If the iPad 2 in it's current state does everything you want, and you enjoy playing around on it a lot, I'd get it now and be happy. If you feel like you want the newest of the new and are willing to wait (in line and for it to release) then you should wait for the next release.
The iPad 2s are finally becoming available after many months backlog, so keep in mind the next release will likely be the same way and think if you could really wait that long to get something.
Alternatively you could also consider getting a used iPad 1, then use that while waiting for the next version. The used one could then be resold for a fair amount once the new one comes out. Apple products tend to have a pretty good resale value, and the iPads are extraordinarily popular.
