  • HT1476 Is it recommended to let your IPhone battery die before charging it?

Which is the best way of managing the way you charge your IPhone? I've heard that it is by letting it run out of battery, and until then charging it until it reaches  100%. Though some say that it should be done by plugging it when it's 1% and unplugging it when its almost a 100%, and doing the previous method once a month.

The battery is a lithium type one. One of the many advantages of a lithium battery is that is doesn't build up a memory of it's high and low points. Consequently you can charge it whenever you want to knowing you are not going to damage it.
However, having said that, some manufacturers recommend you should periodically allow the battery to completely drain then charge it overnight. The battery has a chip which prevents it from going completely dead as a lithium needs to have a minimal amount of charge to stay alive, if it goes beyond that point the battery dies.
All batteries will eventually die and a rule of thumb is that most batteries operate to an optimum level up to 600 charges. Anything beyond that is when you will notice the battery does not hold its charge as much as it used to.
Best advice I can give is just to charge it when you need to and allow it to completely discharge once every 3 months and charge it overnight.

  • HT4623 if i let my iphone battery goes completly dead i have hard time getting it restarted

Do that repeatedly and you soon will have a completely useless battery on your hands.
Solution - charge it up BEFORE it auto shuts off on you.
Repeatedly deep cycling a Lithium cell will ruin it much faster than charging it when only partially discharged.

  • HT4060 Should I let the battery run down before charging my iPad or iPhone to help the battery last longer?

Should I let the battery run down before charging my iPad or iPhone or iPod Nano to help the battery last longer?  I took a class at Verizon and they said let it drain completely and it would last longer.  Thanks

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. From the above link...
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

    Hello Edward
Follow the prompts on your iPhone and you will get either at your home screen like normal or get to a point of restoring from back up. The article below will give step by step for restoring from back up.

  • IPhone battery dying after few hours from 100% charge

Since I upgraded to the iOS 5.1 my battery life on the iPhone 4S has been ridiculous.
For example, I left my house at 740am with my phone on 100%, I have browsed a little (safari and facebook) for no more than 20-30 mins in total.  No apps are not running in the background as I ensure to close apps once i have finished with them. And now at 1400 I am left with 28% battery. i am not due to be at home until 1900.
Have I been unlucky with getting a dodgy iPhone from Orange?? the model is MD242B if that helps.
Also, notifications and banners are all turned off except for phone, messages, whatsapp, remainders, calendar.
I am careful not to over charge my phone, I do use an app called BatteryDoc to monitor my charging.
I always let my battery go flat before charging to 100% (with no trickle change), i believe this is a normal charge and what BatteryDoc advises i perform a full charge..
I am slowly regretting this phone after 6 months now.......
    any input is welcome.
    Thanks,
    Cookie

This was driving me insane too. I love my iphone but this is the one flaw. I tried all the "maximizing battery life" suggestions, and it helped slightly.
I have one suggestions: buy an iphone battery case. I bought one off ebay for $29.99 and it is amazing. Nearly doubles the battery and is way nicer than the one at Apple (not to mention 1/4 of the price). The item number is 200795419418 on eBay in case you are interested.
    Hope That Helped!!

  • Should i let my ipod touch have a full charge whenever i connect it to a computer for itunes

    Hi
I would like to know if i should always let my ipod touch get a full charge whenever i connect it to a computer. For example when i just want to add a few songs during the day and my ipod has just half the battery left. And is normal to get a full charge in just to hours (ipod touch 4g)? It defInately shows a plug and not a lightning sign.
When i got my ipod touch i didnt let it charge to a full charge when i connected it to itunes in the beginning. Does that affect my ipods battery life?
    Thanks for any help
    Anjy

No, that's no necessary and it won't effect the life of the battery.

  • HT4060 Should iPad be allowed to run very low before charging or is it best to keep it highly charged?

Should iPad be allowed to constantly run low before charging or is it best to keep it highly charged at most times?

    Battery care
    1. Make sure you run the battery down to 5% and then charging it to 100% once a month.
    2. You should start charging your iPad when the battery charge is less than 10%. Over discharging the battery will shorten the lifespan of its battery.
    3. Never store the battery fully discharged. Apply some charge before storage, and then charge fully before use.
    4. When possible avoid frequent full discharges. Instead, charge the battery more often. There is no concern of battery's memory when applying unscheduled charges.
    5. Avoid iPad from overheating > 35°.
    6. Remove casing/sleeve when charging to allow heat to dissipate from back cover
    7. To safe battery power turn off :
    a. background app refreshing
    b. push notifications and/or push mail
    c. lower screen brightness
    d. minimize the use of location services
    e. increase Fetch New Data interval.

  • How do i fix my issue: Apple Logo flashes on and off after iphone battery died during IOS update?

I've tried the methods I've seen on youtube and other iphone tech help sites but I am still having the same problem. Today while updating to IOS 7 my iphone 4 battery died and I didnt have a charger, now that I am home an I put in on the charger I notice the apple logo just flashes on and off. I've tried to restores using the DFU mode with the home and power button but that only seem to stop the logo from flashing and even then the iphone still isnt recognised by the pc to restore, Is there any other way i can go about fixing this problem!!!!

You can try the steps recommended in the User Guide.  If they don't work bring your phone into Apple for evaluation.

  • Hi, my iphone just died I cannot charge it...doesnt respond...its a brand new, week old

hi, my iphone died I cannot charge it...doesnt respond...its barnd new, week old

    1. Reboot methods. The first thing to do is try to reboot the iPhone, which you can do by holding the top button and the home button for about ten seconds. In some cases, the iPhone is actually still on, but a bug stops the screen from displaying anything, so you can reverse the problem by doing the reboot. If you still see nothing on the screen, try to plug the iPhone in and again try the reboot methods to see if you can get the screen to display.
    2. Restoring the iPhone. If the iPhone shows up in iTunes, but it still doesn't seem to turn on, it's definitely a display problem. When rebooting fails, you can restore the iPhone from iTunes, and this should fix whatever bugs caused the original issue. Realize that you'll have to reload your music if you restore to another software version. To restore, plug the iPhone in, go into iTunes and click the iPhone's icon on the side of the select screen. Click on the restore button and agree to the prompt asking if you really want to restore the iPhone's software.
    3. Recovery mode. You can put the iPhone into recovery mode if it has a charged battery by holding down the home button before connecting it to iTunes, then continuing to hold the button until iTunes recognizes that the iPhone's in recovery mode. Recovery mode is a bare-bones way of booting the iPhone that allows you to perform a restore when you're dealing with a serious issue such as the iPhone failing to turn on or display anything on its screen.
    4. Last resort options. If you still can't get any response from the iPhone, you may have a bad battery or shorted out electronics. This is far from an ideal situation, but if you've got a warranty open with Apple, it's covered. If you don't, you can send the iPhone away for repair, but it will cost you a bit to replace the damaged components. Stop by an AT&T store and they may be able to give you a loaner phone in the meantime so that you don't lose your ability to make and receive phone calls until your iPhone is repaired.

  • Should i let my iPhone 5 battery go down to 20% before charging for best lifespan

manual says phone can be kept on charger. it mentions 400 charging cycles what is a cycle?  100% down to 20% then recharge, or anytime(%) it's plugged in and recharged?

  • IPhone 5s died overnight while charging, blue screen and logo loop

I was charging my iPhone overnight and woke up to a dead phone. Tried restoring with iTunes a few times with no luck, it kept giving me the error code 40. Everything on my Mac is up to date and am having no trouble connecting to the iTunes servers even though I'm in Kathmandu, so I assume this is a hardware issue now.
Tried to put it into DFU mode without any success, the only thing that it did was give me the blue screen, Apple logo, yellowish screen loop before going off again. Requested a call w/ Apple (Case ID: 608858029), but unsure if they'll have any luck reaching me through my Google Voice number on my laptop since I'm in Kathmandu and my phone is now obviously not working.
Even though I got the phone in late September last year, according to Apple I'm already out of warranty? Thought they had a one year warranty? In addition I cracked my screen back in March, so does that automatically void my warranty even though this BSOD seems to be an unrelated issue? The phone was working fine with the cracked screen for over a month. If my warranty is void and I'm not going to be getting any help, I might open up my phone and disconnect my battery as mentioned in this thread.
All suggestions appreciated. Since I'm going to be in Nepal / Tibet for another month, I might pick up a cheap Android phone if all else fails.

Due to the crappy internet connection, had trouble answering the calls in time every time Apple tried calling so I ended up calling them and had a very pleasant discussion with the CSR for about 30 min.
Phone would've been replaced under warranty except since I cracked the screen, I have to pay the out of warranty cost which is about $269 + tax. Reasonable even though it's much more than the $50 I was going to pay for a replacement screen. But the whole BSOD put a dent in those plans.
They also directed me to Apple Care in China, the closest country with authorized Apple centers to Nepal. Gave me the number (864006272273) which was helpful. But since I'll be on the move for the next four weeks I have no idea how they were going to get the replacement phone to me... unless they send a porter with it and track me down somewhere on the trail in Amphu Labsta.
Guess I'll just hold onto the phone until I get back to NYC.
