Should I move from working Apple Reseller, to working for Apple?

Hi there,
I'm new to these forums and had absolutely no idea where to ask this so I hope it's in the right area and I'm not breaking any rules!
I'm currently working at an Apple Reseller in Victoria, Australia and over the past few weeks, I've been contemplating applying for an actual Apple store (only two in Vic at the moment).
The reason for this being is that I'm looking for more of a challenge and I would like more opportunity to grow and move up in my work.
Can anyone speak from experience? Do you think I'm just being jaded by the alure of Apple or that I could find these things in a new job?
I realise this question is quite the philosophical one but I would appreciate any thoughts/opinions.
Thank-you!

I think you should go for it! Talking to the people who do work at the apple store is a great idea as well, that will give you an idea of whether you would have opportunities to move up at the official store.

when i watch movies from the web with airplay on my apple tv stop every 2 minuts

I have a similar issue with my Home Sharing.  Everything plays just fine on my Apple TV except when I try to play a movie using Home Sharing.  If I choose the same show or movie from the Purchased section of iTunes it works just fine but nothing ever loads for me on Home Sharing.
Not the exact same issue, but very similar.  Good luck, I'm hoping to learn something here too!

If you wish to use home sharing then you need to setup the Apple TV under your ID.

  • If I delete purchased movies from my ipad to make room for new movies, will they be permanently lost or stored somewhere?

Problem:  I don't have enough storage to download new movies.  If I delete purchased movies from my ipad to make room for new content, will they be lost or stored somewhere?

It depends upon what country that you are in (it's not possible to re-download films in all countries), the film studio (some don't allow re-downloading), and whether they remain in the store (studios occasionally remove them from the store) - what you can currently re-download will show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your iPad.
But you are better off first copying them to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases so that you can take you own backup copy of them before deleting them, rather than relying on being able to redownload them in the future (and the same applies to other downloaded content)

  • Stream movies from my computer using home share to apple TV (gen 3) is using up my internet down load allowance?

I have been using Apple TV (gen 3) to stream movies from my computer using Home Share but found my internet down load increased, I have read online forums which all say they don't think the home sharing uses your internet down load but when I played a movie then paused and unplugged my cable from my router I was unable to continue streaming the movies which tells me I am using internet down load. Can I use my Apple TV to stream already downloaded and saved movies from my computer to Apple TV without using the internet?

Sorry diesel, to amswer your question: I am selecting "Computers" from the ATV which inturn streams the movies from the iTunes on my computer.
If I unplug my internet cable from the router I am unable to continue streaming the movie? this tells me that it is using my ISP internet to stream, I have checked all my settings but can't see anywhere that would make it stream direct from my router to ATV.
    Just can't work it out???

  • Movies from iTunes don't show up on Apple TV

Everything else from my library does (music, photos, TV shows), but I can't get the movies from my library to show up on my Apple TV. Here's the kicker...when I go to the movie section in my library (from the Apple TV) all the posters are scrolling on the left, but only one or two of them are selectable from the menu on the right.

They weren't checked in the library. Duh.

  • HT1498 I have rented several movies from iTunes on my iPad, just bought apple tv, can I watch the rented movies from my iPad on the tv ?

I have an iPad and have rent several movies from iTunes, I have just bought apple tv, why can't I watch my rented movies on the tv, my home share is activated ? Have I just wasted £99 ?

    Hi,
Yes, start the movie on your iPad and tap on the AirPlay icon and chose AppleTV from the list.
You can't "transfert" your rental to your AppleTV but you can stream it using AirPlay.

  • Should I move from iPhoto 11 to Aperture?

I've been using iphoto for probably around 7 years. During which time I've experienced a couple of catastrophic library corruptions but was able to restore from backup. The most recent of which was today!
For me the safety of my photo library is probably the most important thing on my computer.
I'd like to hear opinions if it's a good idea to move to aperture. If I do it will be for photo organization and tools rather than photo editing. I do have a copy of Elements 10.
Thanks for the opinions in advance
    Steve.

    Impossible to say, really.
Believe it or not but iPhoto 11 uses the same database engine as Aperture 3, so it should be equally robust. It is certainly true that there are a lot less of the "Oh No iPhoto Lost All My Photos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" type posts on this forum - and a lot less exclamation marks too - but then it's reasonable to infer that many of the users here are more experienced users than on the iPhoto forum. That may account for the difference.
Aperture is a much more powerful app than iPhoto and there is a learning curve. The opportunities for organising are more varied and flexible, but also more complex. It's much much better with Referenced Libraries.
Aperture is geared to the Pro shooter who shoots high volumes and probably Raw. If you're shooting Jpeg and low volume it may be overkill. If you're a serious hobbyist it definitely has value. If you're taking snaps of the kid's birthday party to send to GrandMa it may be overkill. So it really depends on the kind of photographer that you are.
The best thing to do is to download the free trial -
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/
import a few hunderd images and explore. The tutorials here
    http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/aperture.html
are well worth a look too.
Regardless of which you choose you will always need a good back up - or several...
    Regards
    TD

  • HT4362 how do i watch movies from my computer on my tv with apple tv

    hello

You need to enable home-sharing on your computer (iTunes - advanced) as well as on Apple TV. When your computer is on and running iTunes you can access your movies through the computers section on Apple TV.
Content will need to be compatible with Apple TV
H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High or Main Profile level 4.0 or lower, Baseline profile level 3.0 or lower with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

  • Home Sharing does not work. It's time for Apple to act.

My specific question: Does anyone from Apple read these discussions *and* use the information to fix iTunes?
My issue (and I've given up on this): Home Sharing does not work and it needs to be fixed. I use a Windows 7 based PC and can successfully access my iTunes library from my iPad, meaning all network requirements are met. However many artists and albums do not appear. I know this is not about the tagging/data for the albums.
I found recommendations in these forums regarding the iTunes database (.itl), that this is a sign that the database is corrupted, and how to re-create it from the xml version. I used this technique and it did fix the problem - all albums and artists appeared. But within a day or so, they disappear again, meaning the .itl file is corrupted again and has to be re-created again. Also - if the .itl file is corrupted, then why does everything appear fine in iTunes? Somewhere, somehow the data are good enough to make iTunes work properly.
Bottom line: If you can't get the basics right, then Home Sharing does not work. Some very helpful forum commenters said it could have something to do with the anti-virus software, but that is just passing the buck.  I should not have to know how to do all this. I should be able to turn on Home Sharing and enjoy the music from my iPads, iPhone, etc. Imagine you have to know how fuel injection works and be able to fix it every two days just to use your car - you should be able to turn the key and drive.
There are more problems - I won't even get into how the album won't display properly on the iPad and other annoyances.
Apple? Are you listening? Home Sharing does not work. It is the opposite of the image projected of easy-to-use, people-friendly products.
I suggest you either make it work or turn off the feature.
    Joe

If your database is constantly becoming corrupt, you have a problem on your computer, it is nothing to do with homesharing. The corrupt database does not affect iTunes because that uses another file. It's not passing the buck, by considering whether anti-virus software might be causing this, this is the sort of stuff anti-virus software does (although I'm not saying that's what it is in your case-I don't know at this stage), you can't hold Apple accountable for badly written software that you have put on your computer yourself.
If you can't correctly identify what is causing your problem, you are never going to fix it.

  • HELP!how2 import a movie from a family reunion into imovie for a weddingvid

    Hello all,
I am having difficulty importing a video from a dvd into iphoto/imovie. I believe the issue is that the dvd's format is not compatible. I can play the dvd through my dvd player on my mac though... When I try to drag and drop the video into iphoto i get this message:
    Unreadable files
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)
    /Volumes/LOGICAL VOLUME IDENTIFIER/VIDEOTS/VIDEOTS.BUP
    /Volumes/LOGICAL VOLUME IDENTIFIER/VIDEOTS/VIDEOTS.IFO
    /Volumes/LOGICAL VOLUME IDENTIFIER/VIDEOTS/VIDEOTS.VOB
    /Volumes/LOGICAL VOLUME IDENTIFIER/VIDEOTS/VTS_010.BUP
    /Volumes/LOGICAL VOLUME IDENTIFIER/VIDEOTS/VTS_010.IFO
    /Volumes/LOGICAL VOLUME IDENTIFIER/VIDEOTS/VTS_011.VOB
Does anyone know how I can save the video in another format or how I can import the file into iphoto or imovie? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to make the video part of a slideshow for my brother's wedding. (its of family members that are unable to attend)
    PLEASE!! Thank you!!
    -Stacey

There is a product you can download from the Web called MPEG STREAMCLIP (which is free), which will convert MPEG2 files like yours into a compatible format like DV or h.264. You will also need the Apple Quicktime MPEG2 Playback Component, which costs about $20, and can be downloaded from Apple.
This will not defeat copy protection, but it should work fine if this is your personal DVD.
