Should i overclock my gtx 560m in my gt683r laptop?

in game the temp of my gpu is about 44 degrees.  I use evga precision.  I know overclocking a laptop is stupid due to lack of ventilation and heat but i have a kick ass cooling pad.  what is a good benchmark for this card that wont shoot up the temp in my unit and i can still notice a differnce in game proformance.  its not that im lacking proformance, but im the type to unlock everything my pc can do.
any ideas guys?

Would my opinion change your mind on what you want to do?
Would I be the one to blame if your machine fails or even burns-out?
This is merely a test for yourself to check if you are able to withstand the temptation. For you have already made your choice, you're just waiting for the right time to discover the results of your decisions.
This might be the outcome:
Not definite, but possible!

  • Overclocking Nvidia GTX 570m

Hi guys!  Ok, my question is why I can't see P1 state in MSI Kombustor, but when I put in VBIOS Tuner and attempting to mess with memory clock etc,
I can do that. All so I notice that P0 state turning automatically. I attempting to overclock P0 state and wen I do that I would like to control P0 state with turbo key.

All so this card is not stock card for MSI GT683R laptop.
If you use original MSI config with its original graphic card:
P0 is when P-State that will be used when you turn on the Turbo button in the retailed MSI notebook.
[Barabones don't have such] Think also Nvidia OC utility [at msi web download for this notebook] need to be installed.
If the Turbo is not used, underload will be used P1 instead.
For monitoring application, the load state will be always known as P0,
but via internal vbios definition can be either P0 or P1.
Ie: They are 2 possible GPU load scenarios.
This is only valid for original MSI config, you if replace the card with another one,
the Turbo will not works as descrinbed.
Also there are different 570m types, who don't have P1 but P0 only,
in such case either P0 or P1 internal modification will modify the P0.

I did not find solution to this problem, but it not mater any more, I menage to over clock P0 state and create shortcut with NvidiaInspector tool,
but there is another problem, card is shut down the system wen it rich 90 Celsius degrees. I now that Nvidia cards can operate an that temperature
with no problem to be burned, but all so it should not shut down windows wen is going 1 degree over 90 degree. Is there any solution to this?
I was thinking that maybe problem is because this card bios is not compatible with card or system in general. All so this card is not stock card for MSI GT683R laptop.
What u think, I be grateful if somebody help me even with new idea.
    Thx in advance.
Check the CPU load temp too
Could be also that your charger is too weak
Other tip is to reseat and repaste the CPU /GPU

  • MSI GT683 graphics card lagging GTX 560M

Okay, so i bought my GT683 back at July 2012.
a month ago, my laptop started having BSOD, i went to the MSI store and have them check my laptop, and they fixed it, they said that the RAM was causing the BSOD and they put in new RAM.
When i got my laptop back, the graphics card started to show bad performance.
Even NBA2k13 runs very badly, which is a game that should be running real smooth on my specs.
I even lag on GTA San Andreas.
What do you guys think is the problem? You guys think i need to go get my laptop and bring it to the MSI store again?
    Thanks
and oh yeah, when i click on the Turbo, it doesn't light up too, even though i installed the updated driver for it..

  • Can I install a Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 into my HP laptop?

Hi I was wondering if I could possibly install a new graphics card into my HP laptop? My laptop is a HP 15-d051sa 15.6" so you can search it up on Google.
    My specs:
    RAM: 8gb
    HDD: 1TB
    Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU N3510 2Ghz (2mb cache)
    Graphics: Intel HD Graphics
I think they're all the specifications I need to mention for you guys to help me.

No it cannot be done. The video system is part of the motherboard and cannot be changed. Even if you were to change to the best HP 15 motherboard it has graphics much less powerful than the GTX 660 and the motherboard swap would cost as much as the laptop did to begin with.

  • Should i buy a macbook air or macbook pro laptop?

hello . i am planning on buying either mackbook air or mackbook pro laptop . so help me out here a little bit . i can buy a mac till $2,000 .thats my budget .i will buy it in dubai when i go to turkey for studies.on my i will stay in dubai . from that you can guess that i am a university student planning to do MBA .i am fond of downloading movies and watching them .( legally )  and also i watch movies from dvds and also do my university day to day work . . i am also fond of listening songs. and my main aim to use this laptop is for my studies while living in a turkey university . so plz give me your ideas to make me reach a decision. just to give you an idea i have bought microsoft office for mac 2011 home and student edition in advance so i dont face any problem xD .thank you in advance

i do watch alot of movies on dvd but than again i also download alot of movies and watch them without needing dvd . i am going to turkey for studies next year .so i dont know how many dvds i can take with myself to turkey or they dont allow any dvds to be taken to their country .my main aim of using the laptop is for studies purposes . i am not fond of playing video games . so any machine built specifically for video games is quite useless for me . i will be completing my bachelor degree in marketing in like 5 months now . and join another university in the beginning of 2013  for doing MBA(masters) in marketing . so now you have better idea which softwares i might be using

  • GTX 970 Gaming 4G can't overclock above 1398MHz

Hi, I was trying to use MSI Afterburner to overclock the GTX 970 GAMING 4G to around 1411MHz (+120 above 1291MHz) but the card seems to downclock to 1398MHz all the time. I've checked if this is due to insufficient voltage but power maxes out at 90% while the voltage hits 1.2v at 1401MHz for a short while before falling to 1.18v at 1398MHz. I've increased the Temp. Limit to 87 degrees (linked to a power limit of 107%) but it seems like the card won't go above 80 degrees. Please help.

OC is a plastic lottery. I just got MSI Gaming 780Ti and it handled +250 Core clock and +600Mem clock. Not sure if that is good or bad but in OCCT gpu stress test it gave me around 30fps more compared to stock clocks (gaming mode) yet the card was around 63 with fans at 40% (it is damn extremely cool!!).
Cool the card enough first so it doesnt go above 75. Else the OC might be successful but will throttle due to high temp

  • Overclocking the i7 3770K on Z77A-GD65 MB. HELP ME MY NEW FRIENDS!!!

Hi everybody! I really truly hope that someone can help me. I have tried to look EVERYWHERE with no good results... :(
I have a new Z77A-GD65 motherboard and an Intel 3770K processor running on it and I am trying to OVERCLOCK my system properly. You might think that who the hell is this bozo if he cannot overclock with the manuals and all..
Anyway, I really never have gone deeper into overclocking and I would sooooo much like to have a PRESET file (BIOS settings) which could give me about 4.5-4.8GHz frequency and then my memory is a whole another issue. I am able to run it at 1,6GHz anyway but I'd like to try more.
The thing is that I don't even know whether I should have that Genie II button enabled on the motherboard or not! I mean, can I overclock my MB even further if I have Genie button enabled? And then should I enable Genie II via the Control Center from within Windows 7 x64 too?? Or should I have that Genie button disabled from the MB and do everything "manually"? Frankly I know nothing and I am absolutely frustrated.
I know I would have to set some voltages and factors at various points but I find it too complicated. ASUS had a software that you could choose "turbo profile auto overclock" and that software just adjusted voltages and frequencies automatically, rebooting every once in a while until the system came unstable and it applied the latest stable settings. MSI should have that kind of an over-clocking software too!
So could you please reply for me stupid one and tell me that how should I overclock my system. Meaning all the possible settings that you could imagine. I have tried Googling of all the weird C1E's and C-states and HPET's and everything but it's just a mess. I just would like to get as much power out of my PC as possible. Period. I really would appreciate all kind of help.
And yeah, one more thing;;; when I have this MSI Control Center installed in OS then will it kind of "override" the BIOS settings done when booting up? I'm asking a lot of stupid questions but I have struggled with my new PC for four straight days and nights and my brains are starting to melt....
    PLEASE::::
    - give me the multipliers
    - voltages
    - other settings (like power settings)
    - DRAM timing mode and frequencies
    - EIST on/off?
    - Turbo mode on/off?
    - Enhanced turbo??
    - ANYthing you can ever think of.
I'll humbly wait for a reply. Thanks for reading.

There are a number of OC threads here to give some basics. First off, learn what the limits are for voltages, etc. Intel datasheets & design guides are a great source. I will give you two voltage limits, 1 - DRAM V. = don't exceed 1.65v's, 2 - CPU V. = for an everyday OC, don't exceed 1.400v's. Get yourself a digital multimeter. There are several OC methods, so pick the one right for your needs.

It's a good start  thanks to Froggygremlin.
Btw if I may to add tips : try to overclock processor first with memory stay on default speed if we feels it is stable enough and want some more then go with the memory

  • Overclock or a new cpu

As a blimmin' idiot, the good thing about this site is that l can ask really dumb questions and get a sensible reply!
So, with my mobo and cpu (see signature for details) l can overclock by either 10%,15%, or 20%, or just go back to to the mobo default. Must say, that this mobo is brill, everything can be done just by changing jumper switches, and even l can cope with that!
I don't want to push things too far and cause problems so have left it at 10% for now.
To get more "speed" should l overclock to a higher rate (which may or may not cause problems) or should l be looking to buy another processor?
    Regards

Basically three types of OC'ers, first is the 'extreme', second the 'performance booster', & third, the extreme that reduces to a much more practical OC for everyday work. If you only have a stock CPU cooler, I wouldn't recommend increasing much past what you have running now. Is the machine laggy or overly slow? Problems in games or applications? Do you really need a bigger OC? Just food for thought.
Depending on the mainboards CPU support, a faster CPU may be a viable solution.

  • Neo boards: Chipset Overclocking must stop.

    Hello,
Well seems that good ol' Tom is taking a stand now.
    Read:
    Quote
So which board comes out on top in the price/performance ratio? First, MSI and AOpen should stop overclocking their boards' chipsets. We also think the AOpen is overpriced for an 845PE board. Both of these models fail to gain our recommendation.
Well, it is getting interesting. With the new BIOS only days away, I'll ask myself (and MSI) if we will finally get a non-overclocked and stable board.
I hope MSI listens to their customers and reviewers and decides to do something about this issue.
    Thanks,
    Arthur.

    Dear [Maesus],
I have tried to duplicate the issue, I saw it only once when I reflash the BIOS and then change the CPU clock setting.
    My procedure as below…
    1.      Boot system
    2.      Update BIOS to 1.9 version
    3.      Restart the system to BIOS setting
    4.      Change the CPU Bus Clock to 229
    5.      Save the setting & exit and then the system restart automatically
    6.      And then I saw the CPU is only running 1.86GHz (my CPU is 3.2GHZ FSB 800MHz)
But I would like to explain that my procedure as above is incorrect.
The correct procedure should be as below….
    1.      Boot system
    2.      Update BIOS to 1.9 version
    3.      Restart the system to BIOS setting
    4.      Load BIOS setup default first
    5.      Change the CPU Bus Clock to 229
    6.      Save the setting & exit and then the system restart automatically
    7.      And then I saw the CPU is running 3.66GHz (my CPU is 3.2GHZ FSB 800MHz)
Note: To load BIOS setup default setting after reflash BIOS that is because all original default setting will be erase after upgrade BIOS. So we always recommend customers to load BIOS default setting first before change any BIOS setting.
BTW, we have updated the BIOS version to support Prescott CPU. Users can decide to update it or not.
The new release BIOS as attach file.
    Best regard!
