Should i plug my hp touchsmart 300 straight in to wall outlet or into surge protector?

should i plug my hp touchsmart 300 straight in to wall outlet or into surge protector?

It will work either way. The downside of the wall outlet is that if there is a strong enough spike your electronics may be damaged. I have always used a UPS which will not only protect against surges but also will power your computer during a power failure.
It really comes down to how much risk you feel comfortable with.

I have a week old Verizon iPhone 4S and it went dead and I have tried plugging into the wall outlet and into a MacBook Pro and pushed all the buttons but nothing. Besides taking back to Verizon is there anything I can do?

Thanks. I also found that holding the home button and on/ off button at same time for 15 seconds turned it back on.

  • How to do a clean installation of windows 7 on hp touchsmart 300-1000

My hard drive recently crashed in my touchsmart 300. I have purchased a new one but when I insert the installation cd it shortly freezes on starting windows screen right after it installs the windows files for the first time. I have recently read threads about this and saw the safe mode option and disabling the video driver but I can not get to that screen. After I hit any key to boot from dvd i tap F8 and it starts loading windows files, then when it is done it gives me the option to run in safe mode then installs files and freezes again. Can somebody please help me!!!! I am going on over a week straight trying to fix this. Thanks

The title says Windows 7 but the description of what is used to start does not sound right.  According to this PDF for the model posted: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03472361.pdf
Go to page 56  under "Starting system recovery from user-created recovery discs
This section contains the procedure for performing a system recovery from the recovery discs you created"
If Windows 7 is installed, the F8 should get the user into Safe Mode.  Remove the Recovery DVD from the DVD drive before this action is done. What happens now?

  • Getting a hp mce remote for touchsmart 300-1125

I want to add a remote control to my HP Touchsmart 300-1125 and am thinking to order the 5070-5600 HP remote (random link: http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-COMPAQ-5070-5600-Media-Center-Remote-Control-/330414657906#ht_805wt_911).
    I wonder about two things:
    1) The IR Receiver *is* built-in, isn't it? (Device Manager lists a functional eHome IR device)
If in doubt, where should I look for the IR receiver sensor on the case?
    2) I think the 5070-5600 remote lists as being made for the older IQ series of Touchsmarts. Will it work with the newer 300 series?
    Thanks
    Mike

All MCE remotes from the past 8 years send out the same codes. There are a few newer HP specific codes, but 95% of the buttons are exactly the same, grab a 5 year old Gateway MCE remote, it'll work just the same as a new HP one!

    Hi Guys,
I have the solution to your problems and I will go ahead an explain it in detail so that no questions will be raised.
I have struggled to get WINDOWS 7 (32BIT) to run on the Touchsmart 300 PC now for three days (and nights) but I know how you can do it.
The problem lies within the VGA Adapter (Graphics Card) this little buddy has incompatible drivers with the inbuilt functions of the Touchsmart PC in its generic (Windows Preloaded) form. Therefore what you can do is the this.
Step 1: Insert Windows 7 (32Bit) disk and start the setup process and follow it until it hits the problem. (Millisecond of Bluescreen)
Step 2: Once the PC starts booting repeatedly press F8 (I mean it just keep on pressing that button until you can select "Safe Mode")
Step3: Once Windows Setup screen is back it will tell you an error! Which is good. INSTEAD of pressing "OK" (to restart) press SHIFT + F10 (opens the command prompt)
Step4: You should automatically be in \Windows\System32 now enter the following command: CompMgmtLauncher (This is the Device Manager).
(If the default directory is not System32 the navigate to it by entering "cd windows" and "cd system 32" (cd = change directory)
Step5: In the Device Manager (do not worry it will take some time to load) select navigate to "Display Adapters" - "ATI Radeon ..." RIGHT-CLICK on it and choose disable. (To be sure Windows will not have any other troubles you should do the same for all highlighted devices. the once with the yellow triangle)
Step6: Once this is done restart your system and let the install run into the normal mode and finish the install.
Step7: Once Windows starts for the first time. Use the provided ATI Radeon Driver from HP (NOT the original one) from the support download website to install the correct driver.
    Step8: Resart and enjoy!
Hope this helps and let me say to AMD/ATI yopu guys really suck at your one product drivers!
    Cheers and Out.

  • Touchsmart 300 - Install Windows 7 32 bit

Given I have a Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 32 bit DVD and the required license, how can I install Windows 7 Professional 32 bit on a Touchsmart 300 PC?
If I launch the installation booting from  the DVD I get a blue screen (BSOD), I presume for a driver issue.
I am considering using Microsoft AIK to customize the setup, but I need to know which drivers I should include and how to get them.
    Is there any information available?

Try moving the computer closer to the router or plugging in an ethernet,
also try Updating and reinstalling the network driver.
Check for viruses too, MBAM Home Page
I have more HP devices than you'd expect.
1 HP TouchPad 32 GB with Android
    2 HP Touchsmarts (310-1000z and IQ527)
    2 HP Printers (J6480 and J5750)
    1 Laptop (HP DV6253CL)
Have at least some experience in each of those devices, and i'll do my best to help you.

  • I just got a MacBook Pro...when should I plug it in?

I just got a MacBook Pro, and have never had an Apple Laptop before.  I have an iPod touch and iPad, but this is my first laptop.  Should I let the battery run down before charging it? Should I plug it in while I work?

    luckysgirl92
Should I let the battery run down before charging it?
NO, never do that on purpose.  See below
Keep it plugged in when near a socket so you keep the charging cycles down on your LiPo (lithium polymer) cells / battery, but not plugged in all the time. When not being used for several hours, turn it off.
And best "tip" is if its near a socket,...plug it in as long as you can (especially at home) since cycle count on the battery are the "miles that wear out the tires (battery)", however again, not plugged in all or most of the time.
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
"Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time."
While cycle count is commonly seen to be the “miles” on your Lithium Ion pack cell in your Macbook, which they are, this distinction is not a fine line at all, and it is a big misconception to “count charge cycles”
*A person who has, for example, 300 charge cycles on their battery and is recharging at say 50-60% remaining of a 100% charge has better battery usage and care than another person who has 300 charge cycles at say 15% remaining on a 100% charge.
DoD (depth of discharge) is far more important on the wear and tear on your Macbook battery than any mere charge cycle count.  *There is no set “mile” or wear from a charge cycle in general OR in specific.    As such, contrary to popular conception, counting cycles is not conclusive whatsoever, rather the amount of deep DoD on an averaged scale of its use and charging conditions.
(as a very rough analogy would be 20,000 hard miles put on a car vs. 80,000 good miles being something similar)
*Contrary to some myths out there, there is protection circuitry in your Macbook and therefore you cannot overcharge it when plugged in and already fully charged
*However if you don’t plan on using it for a few hours, turn it OFF (plugged in or otherwise) ..*You don’t want your Macbook both always plugged in AND in sleep mode       (When portable devices are charging and in the on or sleep position, the current that is drawn through the device is called the parasitic load and will alter the dynamics of charge cycle. Battery manufacturers advise against parasitic loading because it induces mini-cycles.)
Keeping batteries connected to a charger ensures that periodic "top-ups" do very minor but continuous damage to individual cells, hence Apples recommendation above:   “Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time”, …this is because “Li-ion degrades fastest at high state-of-charge”. This is also the same reason new Apple notebooks are packaged with 50% charges and not 100%.
LiPo (lithium polymer, same as in your Macbook) batteries do not need conditioning. However...
A lot of battery experts call the use of Lithium cells the "80% Rule" ...meaning use 80% of the charge or so, then recharge them for longer overall life.
Never let your Macbook go into shutdown and safe mode from loss of power, you can corrupt files that way, and the batteries do not like it.
The only quantified abuse seen to Lithium cells are instances when often the cells are repeatedly drained very low…. key word being "often"
The good news is that your Macbook has a safety circuit in place to insure the battery doesn’t reach too low before your Macbook will auto power-off. Bad news: if you let your Macbook protection circuitry shut down your notebook at its bottom, and you refrain from charging it for a couple days...the battery will SELF-DRAIN to zero (depending on climate and humidity)…and nothing is worse on a Lithium battery being low-discharged than self-draining down to and sitting at 0
Contrary to what some might say, Lithium batteries have an "ideal" break in period. First ten cycles or so, don't discharge down past 40% of the battery's capacity. Same way you don’t take a new car out and speed and rev the engine hard first 100 or so miles.
Proper treatment is still important. Just because LiPo batteries don’t need conditioning in general, does NOT mean they dont have an ideal use / recharge environment. Anything can be abused even if it doesn’t need conditioning.
    From Apple on batteries:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1446
    Storing your MacBook
If you are going to store your MacBook away for an extended period of time, keep it in a cool location (room temperature roughly 22° C or about 72° F). Make certain you have at least a 50% charge on the internal battery of your Macbook if you plan on storing it away for a few months; recharge your battery to 50% or so every six months roughly if being stored away. If you live in a humid environment, keep your Macbook stored in its zippered case to prevent infiltration of humidity on the internals of your Macbook which could lead to corrosion.

  • HP Touchsmart 300 random black screen

What would cause an HP Touchsmart 300-1223 to randomly display a pure black screen, no audible beeps or other error indicators. It could be anywhere from hours of usage to ten minutes of usage for this to happen. Whenever the screen randomly goes black the keyboard and mouse "lose-power" as in when they are connected you can visibly see the light under the mouse and on the keyboard, but when the screen goes black the lights go out and everything is unresponsive. Possibly an overheating issue that could be fixed by applying new thermal paste? However, the PC doesn't seem to be overheating at all, it's actually running at  a fairly low temperature.  I don't see how it could be bad drivers or anything of that sort, as I'm running a clean fresh install of Windows 7. I've updated the bios, graphics, and touchscren drivers on the HP touchsmart 300-1223 driver page in case those were the cause and this is still happening An extemely easy way to duplicate this happening is to simply run a virtual machince (virtualbox, etc) and when trying to load the virtual machine it will cause the black screen. In case these are at all related.

  • I have a HP Touchsmart 300-1020 that powers up but the screen stays black. help!

    I've been experiencing problems intermittently after shutting my TouchSmart 300 PC down. For the past few days when trying to turn it on ; the screen stayed black!  I could hear the fan start rapid then slow down, I can see the green internal light blinking inside and lights on the outside of the computer but still nothing on the screen!  I've tried plugging it into different outlets around the house was successful with one, but then, came the error message;
Page fault in nonpaged area. Today I tried to turn it on and I got the same thing described above. The computer's operating system is Windows 7 64-bit, purchased Feb. of last year and is refurbished.

    Hi
You have a couple of options as I see it please run the Hard drive and Memory test check if both off then passes if any fails then you need to replace the part. If test passes you could try The F11 option to do system restore Or to do a recovery on the unit before doing recovery kindly back up data as it will be lost web link given below this will help you to let you know how to do the steps.
Troubleshooting Error Messages on a Black Screen that may Occur During Startup or Boot
Testing a Hard Disk using the Built in Self Test

  • Tuner not working on my TouchSmart 300

Situation:  Brand new TouchSmart with tuner not working out of the box.
Driver appears to be installed and working, but tuner will not pick up any channels.
Both ATSC(antenna) and NTSC(converter box used) were scanned and nothing picked up in either mode.
Both LiveTV and Media Center give same results.
HP will be picking it up to be serviced. I'm wondering if it's a Window7 Home Premium 64 bit and driver issue?
I suppose it could be a bad card.
Driver was uninstalled and reinstalled - did not work
OS was reinstalled (online chat said that reinstall fixes 5 of 10 computers with this problem)

Firstly, give your Pod a lot of time to dry out before trying to use it - at least a week, a fortnight might even be advisable. Water takes a surprisingly long time to evaporate from inside something.

  • Upgrading graphic card on the TouchSmart 300

    Hey
I know teres was a similar question about this subject, but I was confused about the answer so im trying to get a simpler answer, sorry but I completly negated about computers so I hardly understand about them much
I have a HP TouchSmart 300-1120 and im trying to upgrade my graphic card, but I havent been able to find anyway of doing so.
If theres anyway of doing it or external parts that I need to do so please tell me, cause I have been searching over the web for days and havent been able to find any answer about it.
It would seem that the Touchsmarts are the only computers that you cant upgrade anything about.
Thank you, sorry I cant be more clear on my question but i dont know how else to put it

actually ive upgraded my touchsmart 310 from a dual core to a quad core and doubled the ram and added an aftermarket cooler so if you know what your doing or are willing to risk it its possible but you can possibly destroy your rig
