Should i purchase a iMac now or will there be a update in april/may?

Hello everyone,
Im curious to know if i should purchase a iMac now or wait and see if there will be a update for ivy bridge? Im curious how big of a update it will be though. I dont NEED it right now but i would prefer to have it now rather than waiting.. specially if the update will be a simple speed boost.. any idea's and opinions would be helpful.

This may be not what you want to hear 'cos it's expensive.
Instead of buying an iMac, buy a Macbook Air, Thunderbolt 27" display, wireless keyboard, mouse & trackpad. Then when you want to upgrade buy a new Macbook Air or whatever ther rest of the kit will still be up to date!
I am fed up every few years upgrading everything when really only the 'system' needs renewed. So the initail outlay is megabucks but future spend should be less????
Check back in two years to see if I still think that way........

    Hi there.
Thank you very much for your quick reply, it's really appreciated.
No need to apologize, I actually found the phrase "If your iPad ever craps the bed" amusing under the circumstances
I checked the list of installed apps like you suggested (Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Show all apps) but this problem app is not in the list. I have also swiped down on the home screen to search for it, but again it does not show.
While it has not let me download the app (and I just tried it again) it has helped me to eliminate a few things from the list of what to try, and I can definitely conclude that it has not downloaded.
I guess I need to fire up my PC and download it / sync my iPad.
    Thanks again for your help

Should I unplug my iMac if I will be away for a week?

I would, if it were turned off.  Just in case power surges decide to visit you during that week.  Same with printer and anything else not on a surge protector and not nedded while you are gone.

I purchased my iMac used.  When I try to update apps in AppStore, the computer automatically fills in the previous owner's email address and it won't let me delete it to enter mine.  I have been using my own apple ID and password on this computer for other things without a problem.  Any ideas?

Before buying a second-hand computer, you should have run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, whichever is applicable.
The first thing to do after buying the computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. Changes made by Apple over the years have made this seemingly straightforward task very complex.
How you go about it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
    1. If you don't own another Mac
    a. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
    b. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received the media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
    c. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    d. Some 2010-2011 models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you can't reinstall 10.6 even from the original media, and Internet Recovery will not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
    2. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    3. Partition and install OS X
    a. If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
    b. Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the  Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
    c. An unusual problem may arise if all the following conditions apply:
OS X 10.7 or later was installed by the previous owner
The startup volume was encrypted with FileVault
You're booted in Recovery mode (that is, not from a 10.6 installation disc)
In that case, you won't be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for guidance or see this discussion.
    d. After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
    e. Run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
    4. Other issues
    a. If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
    b. If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
    c. When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like.

  • Will there be an update for iPad 1 after 5.1.1?

I have the original iPad and I have it updated to 5.1.1 but it runs INCREDIBLY slow and crashes often. Will there be another update for it in the future or is this the end of the road for software updates?

While there is nothing to suggest that there will be any additional updates for the original iPad. You might find some solution for your iPad running slow and frequently crashing.
the first thing I would check is how much free space you have left. I think to should try to have at least 20% of the space free to allow efficient operation of apps and the iOS. If you have less than that try deleting some apps or data on order to free up more space.

  • When will there be an update for RAW files from the new Olympus OM-D E-M10 for Lightroom 4?

    Hello there,
when will there be an update for Lightroom 4 which provides the option to import RAW-files from the Olympus OM-D E-M10 directly into LR4?

Lightroom 5.0 came out in June 2013 with a public beta for LR5 available at Adobe Labs back in April 2013.  It seems you may have been unlucky purchasing the old version just before the new version came out, or perhaps LR5 required a minimum OS level your computer didn’t have.
Purchasing a new version every year isn’t necessary, but you do have to buy a new version whenever you buy an unsupported camera.
Adobe employees need to get paid just like the rest of us, and their releasing a new payfor version every so often is how they get paid.
Never mind that the new version has improvements beyond new camera support, so there was a full development-release-training-marketing effort behind it.
The upgrade price is cheaper than the full purchase price and if you want Photoshop capabilities, there is a LR+PS Photographer’s Bundle that is half the price of purchasing Photoshop, itself:

  • Will there be an update in Pages for ipad that will allow for sub scripts and superscripts

I am a chemistry professor who loves to work on the ipad. The problem I have is that the mathematics I use and chemical equations is use in my writings need both super scripts and subscripts. I would love to use my ipad for this, but presently, the only way I can do this is with a third party app that allows me to create the formulas and the paste them in the document I am working on. Will there be an update to Pages for ipad that will allow subscripts and super scripts. I would love to move away from my Office 2010, but the support is not there yet.

We cannot speculate about future Apple products. We know no more about this than you do at this time.
You can suggest it to Apple at Apple Feedback.

  • What is the latest iOS for iPhone 3GS and will there be another update

What is the latest iOS for iPhone 3GS and will there be another update or is it iOS 6.1.3 and no more

The 3GS is not listed in the supported list for iOS7. Unless Apple comes out with a major bug fix, 6.1.3 will likely be the last update for it.

  • Will there be a update to fix the current problems of not opening

So you tried completely uninstalling all 5 itunes programs from control panel, removing all the files and reinstalling per this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923  ?

Will there be another update to iTunes...undoubtedly.
However, this is a user forum, no one here is a developer at Apple, so we have no idea when or what that update will entail.

  • Will there be an update to Aperture 4?

Will there be an update to Aperture 4?
Or better said: will ever there be a major update to Apple Aperture?

IMHO - the best plan is to have backups of the original files (music, photos, documents) so any changes a company might make won't affect one too much.
There are alternatives if Apple decides to change directions, so not a huge issue if you keep the originals safe and backup exported finals for keepsakes.
Still on the Windows platform at work and have seen many programs come and go over the years.
Aperture is a great idea and will hopefully keep moving forward.

  • Premiere CS6 not supporting AVC-G25/50P will there be an update for that?

    Good morning Adobe,
I own a Panasonic AJ-PX270 with the P2 content format. I filmed using the AVC-G25/50P format, but that is not supported when i want to import the file structure into my Premiere CS6 it gives me a standard error.
Does anyone know what file format i have to use in my sequence to get this imported?
Will there be an update for this?
I have also asked Panasonic to provide me a solution, haven't heard from them.
Perhaps someone knows how i can convert the files into another file format outside of premiere?
    thank you very much!
    Ruud van den Einden

Yes, it's Java update 16 for Mac OS 10.6 that broke lots of stuff.  The 51 comes from it updating Java to 1.6_51.  There is an update to the update for 10.7 and up posted, but is there one for 10.6?
UPDATE:  Never mind.  If you go to the download page for Java update 16, it appears that it has been silently updated.  Although there isn't any indication of the fact that it has been fixed, the build number is different (20.51-b01-457 instead of -456).

  • Will there be an update for DigitalPersona Extension 5.0.0.3790 to provide compatibility for FF4?

When downloading Firefox 4.0, DigitalPersona Personal 4.11.3805 with DigitalPersona Extension 5.0.0.3790 (from Mozilla Firefox Add-Ons) is incompatible. Fingerprint swipes only open the DPP application's Home Page. I had to uninstall FF 4 and re-install FF 3.6.16 in order to utilize fingerprint logon recognition.
DigitalPersona will no longer support DigitalPersona Personal as is evidenced by the following email I received from [email protected]:
"Thank you for contacting DigitalPersona. We are extremely sorry to inform you there will be no update
releases for DigitalPersona Personal in the future. We are also sorry to inform you there will be no updates for
Firefox 4 nor Internet Explorer 9. You certainly can try to use either one, if they work for you great!. If they do
not work, you will have to decide to either keep DPPersonal and forgo Firefox 4 or IE 9, or vice versa.
DigitalPersona, regretfully, is leaving the consumer market and is focusing on numerous business and legal
applications. In fact, again sorry to inform you, DigitalPersona Personal will not be supported after Mid-April
    of this year."
    Hardware/Software:
    Computer: HP
    DigitalPersonal Personal: 4.11.3805
    OS: Windows 7 64bit
    Browser: Firefox 4
    Fingerprint Reader Sensor: Validity
    Driver: 2.0.0.1
Will there be an update to this extension, '''or''' are there other software options to make the Validity Sensors, Inc. fingerprint reader compatible with FF4?

As Digital Persona have abandoned it, there will be no update to their extension. It may work with the Fingerfox (SE) extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/fingerfox-se
