Should I raise the base clock or the multiplier?

I have Intel Core i7 875k
I can reach 4.2Ghz by either raising the multipliers or by raising the base clock
I do prefer to just raise the multiplier since the rest of my system doesn't runs under any extra stress
However, today I read:
We also prefer to use the Base Clock rather than the CPU multiplier when overclocking CPUs. Increasing the Base Clock increases the amount of bandwidth between the CPU and the rest of the system, yielding greater performance for the same overall CPU frequency.
Is that true?
and if it's true, is there a big or a small difference?
I am not sure how big of a difference it will make to run a CPU at 4.2Ghz by either using multipliers or base clock

I run Prime95 and Adobe Premiere CS5 to test stability
With Adobe Premiere CS5 I can have a good idea of how fast the CPU is
Can you tell me which is the best software to test the CPU speed?
I'd like to see some numbers, then I'll get a better idea of what I'm doing

  • Raise the price!

Most people who use Lightroom are professional photographers or serious hobbyists that spend thousands of dollars on photography related hardware and software every year. And for most of these folks, Lightroom is the center-piece for most of their post-processing. I think what they really want, certainly what I really want, is better software, not cheaper software. I suggest $500 to get in, and $150 for upgrades. It is my belief that very few customers will be lost due to a couple hundred dollars - provided the extra money is being used by Adobe to fix bugs and hone performance pronto, and hire a few more people to work on (remaining quality issues and) the new features people want. Maybe, instead of (or along with) Lightroom & Lightroom-Lite, we could have Lightroom & Lightroom-Hevy - so people don't feel too burned by the price increase.
    Rob

By the same token, most photographers (professional or otherwise) live in houses that cost multi thousands of dollars. Should we raise the price of refrigerators too?
There is a limit to what the market will bear for any software and I believe Lightroom is at that limit. Raising the price may not cause a loss of existing customers but it would no doubt have an impact on new customers. In addition, I believe it would encourage software piracy.
The cost of a piece of software should not dictate how well it works. Lightroom is a fantastic tool for Photographers but clearly not everyone is happy with it. Raising the price will do nothing to improve that, even if all the bugs known were fixed tomorrow.
The features that make Lightroom so useful will quickly be assesed as unnecessary by anyone considering a $500 purchase. Uploading to the web is very easy through Lightroom but not that difficult without it. The Slideshows are basic at best. The Printing it amazing interms of flexibility and speed but once one has a system in place, the print module becomes a luxury. The develop module we all know is Camera Raw, and that will always exist with Photoshop (which a large majority of Photographers have) so no loss there. Even without Photoshop to give us Camera Raw, we can always find other Raw processors for much less.
As for the asset management of the Library. I'll give you $100 for it, and still want improvements.
Really, Photographers spend thousands of dollars on photography related hardware and software every year because that is what they can afford. Ask any of them if they would buy the top of the line camera if they could afford it and I'll bet the answer is yes. If you price Lightroom out of reach, they will find an alternative.

  • Raising the size limit on mailboxes

When will Verizon raise the limit on sub-mailboxes from the very low 200MB to something higher.  These days storage is much cheaper so they should be raising the mailbox limit to at least 1GB for all mailboxes.

At a guess? They won't. Email is not a "main" product in Verizon's eyes. Keep in mind that this is a peer-to-peer support forum.
If you want to get information from Verizon, you should contact them directly via one of the options on their Contact Us page.

Songs you rip from CD can have their bitrate increased to a maximum of 320Kbps from the iTunes preferences; alternatively, the default encoder can be changed to a lossless one. Songs from other sources have a fixed maximum bitrate.

  • MOVED: What is the Safe OC (base clock) for MSI Eplices plus?

This topic has been moved to Overclockers & Modding Corner.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=130206.0

Hi tancheeru, & welcome to the forum. As this is an OC question, the mods will probably move it to the OC & Modders Section of the forum. Please provide a signature with your systems components. It is difficult to make suggestions without it. In most cases I have experienced, base clock at 166 or 167 will most of the time work on default voltage. However, RAM must be adjusted to compensate for it's increase in speed as base clock is increased. This may involve the Mem. Ratio, Uncore Ratio, timings, & DRAM V.

  • The value should be set for Base image URL and Image file directory

    Hi experts
Now customer has the following issue.
XML Publisher concurrent request, using RTF layout template with LOGO, does not generate the LOGO for Excel output.
but in output formats PDF, it is shown normally.
from the debug log, we can found the following error message
    ======
[051812_054716051][][ERROR] Could not create an image. Set html-image-dir and html-image-base-uri correctly.
    ======
so I tell the customer to do the following action plan.
    1. in XML Publisher Administrator resp > Administration expand the HTML Output section.
2a. enter a value for 'Base image URI'
2b. enter a value for 'Image file directory'
Customer set the value as following and retest this issue, but he found the issue is not solved.
    Base image URI: /u01/r12/ebssnd/apps/apps_st/comn/java/classes/oracle/apps/media/XXSLI_SONY_LIFE_LOGO.gif
    Image file directory: /u01/r12/ebssnd/apps/apps_st/comn/java/classes/oracle/apps/media
I verified 'Base image URI' and 'Image file directory' settings:
    1) Change output type to HTML.
    2) Click the Preview.
but the image is correctly displayed on HTML, so I think the issue is caused by user's uncorrectly setting of the base image URL and/or image file directory
but could anyone give me some advice on which value should be set for Base image URL and Image file directory
    Regards

First thing to do is to edit the post and use some tags to format the code as it is unreadable and too much!
Read the FAQ (https://forums.oracle.com/forums/help.jspa) to find out how to do this.
Next we need to know the jdev version you are using!
As the code is generated I would first try to generate it again after the db change.

  • Raising The Subwoofer Volume with 2.1 Speakers? (A Good EQ Should Do

    Greetings, and happy New Year.
I've been trying to raise the volume of my subwoofer in my 2. speaker set up (2 satelites and a subwoffer). I'm using an Audigy 2 Value card. Now, when I open the Surround Mixer and go to Speaker Settings > Base Management, the subwoofer volume sliders are greyed out; the card doesn't seem to recognize the woofer. However, the woofer works fine with the computer- I can hear (er... feel) it just fine- but I can't seem to adjust the volume on it. How can I set up my sound card so it recognizes my woofer and so I can adjust its volume?
I tried raising the "Bass" slider in the surround mixer, but that also raises the Bass of the satelites, which I DON'T want- I only want the volume of the Bass in the woofer raised.
    Many Thanks.
P.S. My subwoofer has a volume control on it, but its maxed out- if I could find an EQ that adjusted the 20-20 HZ range, I'd be in good shape, but I can't seem to. If anyone know of one, let me know. The EQ from the card only goes down to 20HZ, and I need to adjust lower frequencies.Message Edited by VermilionMartyr on 0-0-2006 08:6 PMMessage Edited by VermilionMartyr on 0-0-2006 08:27 PM

Just set the audio to output stereo to full range speakers: go to configuration screen, select "show small/big icons", tap on the "audio" or "sound" icon. In the new screen that pops up, select "speakers" (that conexant device) and click "configure". Click next and you'll see an option to select "full range speakers", and select the front ones. Click next again and save the settings.
In that same audio tab, select preferences of the conexant device. In the new tab that opens, go to the 3D headphone setting and turn it off.
If you wish, you can also turn off the Dolby settings, they don't improve anything.

Purchasing with the upgrades through Apple would add about $800 over the Black Friday deal at Best Buy.  Just looking for some advice if I will be satisfied with the based model.

All models will do what you want. Upgraded models will do it faster than the standard models.
Just why are you thinking of switching to a Mac?

  • Should I upgrade the internal hdd on my 2008 8.1 iMac or use an external drive?

I have an external hdd right now it is a 500gb go seagate goflex with a number of iTunes folders that I put on from my windows pc. I just received this 2008 2.4ghz core 2 duo 8.1 iMac and tried to import the files. The internal hdd is only 250gb so they would not fit, when I tried to get iTunes to run from the external drive it would but I would have to manually open each artist then album then song I wanted in the Finder for it to play. The songs do not show up automatically in iTunes, even though I think I followed all of the instructions for external hdd support. I was going to buy a new iMac and have the genius set it up, but now I think I am going to upgrade the RAM myself and am deciding wether or not I should also replace the internal hdd to 2TB or just get an external hdd so when I get a new iMac, maybe next year, I could still use it. However, I don't want to get another, larger external hdd if I'm going to have a hard time transferring all of my media to iTunes. Can I pay to have an apple genius do this at the store? I just upgraded the operating system to Snow Leopard and am waiting to upgrade RAM before moving to Mountain Lion. I just want my iTunes to sync up, at this point I will do just about anything, short of buying a new Mac. Thanks for any help.

You can keep your iTunes collection on an external drive.  You can also keep just bulky items that you may not want to see often such as movies and just keep smaller items on the internal drive.  This split option is more tricky but there are several ways to do it.
If all you have is a modest music collection, you can manage with an internal drive.  Most modern media collections with huge movies files fast outpace even larger internal hard drives and you will have to resort to an external drive.  Your computer dating from 2008 is (according to Apple's coproration standards) on its way to becoming a museum piece (hey, I still use a 10 year old computer, but Apple gave up hope for me years ago).  I would not upgrade the internal drive.   That will cost you a lot  and be tricky to take with you to your next computer. An external drive you can just plug into a new computer.
Some of the issues you are encountering are because you do not yet know how to properly manage and transfer iTunes files.  We can help you, or you can pay somebody a lot of money to do this for you on a regular basis.
Your GoFlex drive was used with Windows. Macs and Windows use different drive formats.  If you are now using Mac-only then you will need to reformat the drive (you will need to store all those files elsewhere while you are doing this).
Do not buy just one external drive.  When that drive fails (oh, and believe me, it will) your whole collection will be lost.  Some of it you may be able to download again from Apple, but Apple does not "store" your iTunes collection, it is up to you to ensure its safety.

  • For the 2012 Macbook Pro 13" should I get the 2.5GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5 or the 2.9GHz Dual Core Intel Core i7?

I am a high school student and I am getting my first Macbook Pro. I am not really sure which 13 inch Macbook Pro model I should get. My budget is kind of tight, but I think that I can afford any one of the models but I dont want to spend any money that I dont have to spend. Usually on a day to day basis, I use the web brower, watch movies that I have downloaded, and write a lot of papers. I also sometimes use Photoshop, and while I do not play a lot of games, I do want to have the option if I decide to later when I go to college. The larger hard drive size on the Core i7 model does not really matter to me because I dont plan using more than 500GB. I will be upgrading the ram to 8GB if I get the Core i5 model and it comes standard on the i7. Also, I need this computer to last me for 3-4 years so I want something that will still seem relatively fast a few years down the road. Lastly, while I would prefer getting the Macbook Pro due to its cheaper price and ability to upgrade the hard drive later, I also am considering the Macbook Air Core i7 model, mainly because of the faster ssd and the higher resolution screen. I dont really use the optical drive, so loosing it would not be a big deal. The same goes with the Firewire port or the Ethernet port. What would you guys suggest I get. A Macbook Pro or a Air and if the Pro, should I get the Core i5 or the i7?
    Thanks

If you're planning on keeping it for long term.
    Go with the i7 2.9GHz.
It's a $300 difference but with that you get; the RAM, Hard Drive and Processor upgrade.
Since you want it to last before you decide to either upgrade or buy a new one.  The i7 2.9GHz is a good choice.
Do remember that Mountain Lion is around the corner and other software get's updated to and wants more CPU power and more memory.
Nothing is wrong with the i5 2.5GHz either.  You'll just have to upgrade the RAM sooner in case 4GB isn't enough for you.
    Put it this way:
    i5 2.5GHz has 3MB L3 Cache Memory
    i7 2.9GHz has 4MB L3 Cache Memory
Now, you're also thinking about the MB Air, a very nice notebook which is light, portable and has a better resolution than the MB Pro 13 inch.  You have to however, keep in mnd that the RAM and Hard Drive in the MB Air is not user upgradeable and has no optical drive.

    HI,
In my business process, i have raised the PR's through the projects. at the time of material assignment we need to give the item category N or L  .But at the time of material assignment to the activity, whether third party sale or local sale is not decide .it's only  decide at the time of PO creation .is there any options or configuration process to assign the unknown item category at the material assignment the PROJECT?
    Regards
    Bhavani

Item category available is either N or L. I don't think there is any U available.
If you are referring account assignment in PR. for project it should Q, P or N. U is not for project.
What is the purpose of assigning / planning materials in your project during the initial stage?, is it for cost planning? if it is only for cost planning then follow what Virendra has recommended.
