Should I render SD videos to prores before editing multicam?

Hi,
I know when editing HD files it is prefered to convert them to prores while editing.
Does the same need to be done for SD files?

There are numerous different SD formats so it all depends which you are using.
If it's DV from a tape camera the only time you would even think of converting would be if you were getting too many dropped frames during multicam editing.
In that case you would use ProRes Proxy, not ProRes 422 or any of the other flavours.

  • When should I render my videos on premiere?

    Hi guys,
I'm new to premiere and I was wondering when should I render the project? Is it when I am completely done, ready to export or can I render to watch my video without being sluggish?
    Any help is appreciated.

I'm editing a 2 minutes video, it doesn't have any special effects other than some transitions and some basic CC. It was working fine, I added the VO and all went to HELL. This project has crashed 8 times. It's ridiculous.
I have a Mac Mini I5 with 16 GB of memory.
I have worked with Avid and only rendered  project when it was time to export. I no longer have access to Avid.
I'm somewhat new to Premiere- have done 5 other projects on it before, one being an 16 minutes with no problems. The only way I can edit this video is by rendering, besides, every time it crashes that big fat red line is across my timeline.
The voice over was done in garage band. I have two  audio tracks one for music and VO.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Should i put more into my pc before editing

I own a ibook g4 512 ram with 80 gig. and i was wondering am i going to have to invest anything more into my pc if i wanted to edit vidios. i alrealy know and want to buy a 250 gig external hard drive but should i put more ram into the book before i do some serious editing with this thing??

There is a long long thread about iDVD5 problems throwing doubt on memory upgrades. There are a number of strong views expressed and it takes a great deal of reading.

  • Should I convert my MTS (AVCHD) file to another file type before editing with elements 10

I know premiere elements 10 has project settings for working with AVCHD footage but after doing a bit of reading about how AVCHD (MTS) files are a lot harder for your computer to work with I'm thinking it might be better to convert my raw video files to another video file type before editing with premiere elements 10.
I have a reasonably good computer, but it's only a laptop with 361gb free memory, radeon graphics card, core i5 processor and 8GB ram.
If I should convert these files first what file type should I convert them to without loosing too much video quality and where can I find a program to convert them.
    Many thanks
    Sally

My granddaughters and I have been using one of those to edit videos taken in (two) Sony and (one) Panasonic cameras.  The computer is a mid grade Toshiba laptop that is about three years old.  The cameras were purchased after the computer.  Our computer does not have a graphics card, but the other specs are about the same.

I didn't read that until after we had made videos.  The issue is the project preset that is set when you open a new project. If you guess wrong, PrE10 tells you so when you slide the first clip to the timeline.
There is confusion about AVCHD because there is a 1.0 and a 2.0.  The "high" setting for many cameras the last couple of years was 1080p60.  That did not become part of AVCHD until last July.  Now it is and is called 2.0.  PrE10 specs include AVCHD 1.0, so the 1080p60 is "officially" unsupported.   I didn't know that, so I tried a few presets when my files were 1080p60.  A preset of 720p60 worked best.
The "work harder" part primarily has to do with the preview window during editing.  If it is not going smoothly there will probably be a red line above the clip.  Pressing "Enter", getting a cup of coffee and patience will make the red line go away and the preview will be smoother.  The relationship between project presets and final output is a mystery.  My experience is that the presets have only to do with real time preview and little to do with output.  Output requires an entire re-encoding for the chosen viewing platform.  PrE10 seems to ignore the project presets, uses all the markers set in editing and builds the final products from scratch.

Steve and Bill invest a lot of time here helping people like you and me.  But, my experience is that they are wrong.  I see no need to convert the files.  Conversion always has the risk of loosing a little picture quality.  PrE10 seems to handle AVCHD fine.  Let it do the final render using the actual source clips.
Sally, consider upgrading to version 11 where AVCHD 2.0 and 1080p60 is included.  I have.  Processing is a little smother.
    Bill
PS:  Please, with all due respect to Bill and Steve who work hard here, I disagree based only on experience with 3 cameras and one computer.  User experience varies!

  • Help! I can no longer choose Adobe Media Encoder when trying to Render a Video.

When I try to Render a Video, only the JPG option is available, but I need to render a Quicktime.
Most likely related is a new error I receive when launching Photoshop CS6 Extended: "Could not complete your request because of a program error." This dialog box has an OK button. Once i click this, it opens no problem. Had been ignoring this until today when I couldn't render my video.
I have not changed anything with Photoshop so not sure why this is happening now, when it didn't use to before.
    Please help!

Sorry, of course you would need that. I'm running Windows 7 Professional and have Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended for 64-bit. PS version number is 13.0.1 x64.
    What else would be needed?

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system is it running? It will not influence my answer but will give me information in case I need to get into version specifics to detail my answer further.
Timeline rendering is a preview matter. It does not fix anything, but it is your window of opportunity to catch of problem sooner than latter. If the Timeline rendering indicator displays orange (11 or higher) for the line above the Timeline content, that is the project telling you that you are not getting the best possible preview of the playback of that content in the Edit area monitor. And, every time you edit a file, you have altered the file from the time before. So, if you want to see the best possible for what you now have, you Timeline render. This is particularly helpful when you are dealing with titles, effects, transitions, and non native formats. You cannot turn off the Timeline render indicator system, at least none that I have ever found nor seen reported. You can do selective Timeline rendering by having the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar span only the Timeline segment that you want Timeline rendered.
Consequently, you either ignore the Timeline render indicator system, move on in the project, and take your chances in the outcome or you Timeline render to get your best possible preview if the Timeline render indicator is suggesting that you do so.
I am not approving or disapproving of this project feature, just commenting on the what is.
This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. If you want to have your voice heard at Adobe, you might consider filing an Adobe Feature Request Bug Report Form.

    Please consider.

Add On...it is also possible to do Timeline rendering in a project, save close the project, and reopen it to find your previously "green" lined content now "orange", indicating unrendered. Yet the preview files generated originally by Timeline rendering are still existing in their hard drive save location. That is another story for other time.

  • Help! images won't render to video

I am a student in animation and media design. I have previously used photoshop in CS4 to animate and I have just upgraded to creative cloud. I have tried to animate using photoshop 6 and I can't get my drawings to render to video. Another student thought that it was rendering and just too fast for me to see it. But I tried all the different settings and every one that I did is rendering the same way. I get a play screen to pop up and it shows the musical note in the screen and it looks like it plays but there are no images. Can you please help me?

When using images, you need to determine the correct fps {frames per sec} If you only have 3 images (default is approx. 30 fps) That would mean your animation would be done in 1/10th of a second. For it to last a full second the fps would have to be set to 3fps. In the timeline panel there is an icon in the upper right hand corner, it should have a menu item for setting the fps.
If it isn't there, lets us know and someone can figure out why.

  • Which software I should install to view video file AVI format on my Imac?

Which software I should install to view video file AVI format on my Imac?

It's hard to say. AVI doesn't exactly describe how the video was encoded. AVI is a package that contains the video content.
However, VLC can play just about anything. That's the first thing I'd try.

  • Windows Media Video Export - Dosn't Render entire video

Every time I try to render a video in wmv in IMOVIE, it only renders about half of the video, how do I make it render the whole thing.
    sombody please help.

    Are you using Flip4Mac?
If so, you need to purchase the entire package-not just the trial version.
Trial version only allows you to export about 30 seconds...

  • Is there a certain number of times I should install Adobe Reader on a mac before it works?

Is there a certain number of times I should install Adobe Reader on a mac before it works?  Cant open any Adobe certified pdf's in any applications. Keeps telling me to install Reader for the best experience.
I've tried that on three macs, no luck.  Website in general is a shambles.

No, if it doesn't work the first time, doing it again isn't likely to change anything.
The usual reason for this message is that the app is not using Reader, but the PDF needs Reader. What app is putting out the message? Can you reply (NOT BY EMAIL) with a screen shot of the message?

  • CS4: No option to export as FLV in Render to Video

Does anyone know why one installation of CS4 would show the Export s FLV in the Render to Video QuickTime settings, but a different machine doesn't.
Flash CS4 is installed on both machines.

Thanks to Sandie - I have the same problem on a PC - it works on my own HP labtop and stationary Mac with XP with PhotoShop CS3 - but the client's Acer toy-machine - CS4 - it doesent work.
Then I did what Sandie did - copy the Quicktime plugin in QTComponents - the file FLV.qtx - and copy to the clients machine - and it's work fine.
Thank you Sandie. I never gues, that I was the Quicktime that make the mistake.

  • I am running after effects CC on window 8 whenever I render a video the audio is misplaced. does everyone know whats going on?

HI, I am running after effects CC on window 8 whenever I render a video the audio is misplaced. does everyone know whats going on?

Nope.  We don't even know what you mean by "misplaced".
    Is it not there?
Is the audio somewhere else in a different folder?
Is the audio there, but leads or follows the video by a certain amount?
    Other things:
Have you activated the audio checkbox in the Output Module when you add the comp ro the Render Queue?
Is there audio present in your comp when you RAM Preview?
