  • Starting my career in SAP

    Hi everyone,
I've just started my career as SAP Business Analyst, and I'm a fresh graduate (Sales and Distribution - SD). I believe learning is a continuous process and find this forum a great place to socialize and learn from fellow SAP professionals.
I would appreciate if anyone could navigate me to a forum section that has discussion related to my area.
That's all from me, have a great day!

    Welcome to SCN.
Though am not a SD consultant. Here it is

  • Starting a career in SAP

    Hi friends
I am student from networking background with CCNA certification, but now I would like to choose my career in SAP.
I haven't got any idea where to start with and which version of SAP suits to my technical background.
Could any one of u please suggest me the best possible first step.

    Hi !
Suitability-wise, the people from technical areas are generally recommended for SAP Basis, ABAP and Java based on previous background. Though there isn't anything directly suitable for you. SAP Basis (SAP System Administration) may be the right choice for you.
And about the starting point, there is no direct answer. Entering into an SAP career by choice is really difficult. There was a time in late 90s when you could expect to get 100% placement after doing a certification course. The time has changed now and the SAP market is very competitive. The demand for the SAP consultants is increasing and the industry needs good consultants but for the experienced and specialized who can help them to achieve their goals. The experts differ on how you should approach the problem of launching yourself into an SAP career. There is a lot of debate about the worthiness of SAP certification and believe me nobody can give you a straightforward answer. After weighing the pros and cons only you can make this choice. You can go through this educational resource which will shed some light on these doubts so that you can make an informed choice : http://www.best-career-guide-for-erp.com/sdn

  • Req suggestion to start up Career for SAP consultant

    Hi all,
Can u suggest me how can I start up my career as SAP Consultant in SD or WMS, I have 7 + years of  Experience in Both the modules as End user now I want to start up my career as consultant... Can u plp guide me how to Start up and what are required for the same?

    Hello Surender,
It good that you have chosen a path to be an SAP Consultant.
As a end user for more than 7 years, you will be familiar with business process and with SAP technicalities too.
So, you can go ahead and give certification exam. If you feel you need a training before giving certification, You can have a formal training in SAP authorized education partner and then apply for certification.
While going through this, i wish to tell you some things which a person should keep in mind while going for certification.
Kindly do Remember, SAP Certification is not a Job Guarantee Program. Certification may add a value to it if you possess enough domain knowledge.
Companies Need Consultants who have good experience and knowledge in Business scenarios.
So, if you are good with Business process and have a valid SAP certification, then it will be easy for you to crack the interviews and get a break in your consulting career.
Regarding to your question about which module to choose SD or WMS, It is up to you to choose a module, Learn and Excel in that. There is no standard answer for choosing a module.
I would suggest you to choose a module in which you know the business process more.
All the best for your SAP Consulting career.

  • How to start a career in SAP

    Hi guys,
I wanted to know the best way to look for a startup SAP job.
I have alot of experience using SAP, it runs in my family and it is something that has always interested me.  However, after spending hours looking for suitable jobs nearly all listed require at least 2 years config experience and 1 full life cycle.  So where do people start?
I have been looking for SAP trainee and junior jobs but there seems to be nothing available.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    <brainstorm>
One possible way is to find yourself a few customers who cannot show more FTE's on their payroll but still have some (ongoing) dough left on project accounts which for some reason cannot be finally signed off... and they need silent low-noise-profile high-end-experienced support for existing systems which they cannot upgrade and need to wait for an opportunity (another project budget) to consolidate them into a bigger one...
You need to stay close to your mobile phone and would need to invest in a laptop... but whether you are at home, at work in the garden, or on the beach should not matter much...
Does that sound more optimistic than a beer? I think a beer is more sustainable, because the airport barman will not let you down if you ask for a second beer...
    Enjoy the weekend,

ps: I think you have hijacked someone else's thread, unless he doesn't mind the additional aspect.

    Please advice me in this
    Thank you
    Dhivya

    Hi Dhivya,
I saw your post and thought of responding you, it might be late but still I am replying to your query.
You should take sometime in exploring the different modules available in SAP and the modules currently high in demand. This will help you in taking a module to start learning/training.
The most important thing to keep in mind while taking a module to proceed is the job opportunity and your interest in that area.
    Thank you,

Until now what all I hear from others, not necessarily
in this forum is one should have strong functional
background to learn functional modules like
         (HR, FICO, and MM etc)
What you heard is absolutely correct !!!!!!!
I have seen many people jumping into SAP without the respective domain knowledge and suffered a lot in their career.
If you are very particular and interested to concentrate on any modules you listed, what I would suggest is that search a friend who have the domain experience in that field,  learn from them all basic process so that you can try in SAP on your own.  Straightaway, you cannot learn modules like MM, SD, FICO if you dont have any domain experience.  Sorry to say this but since I have seen many friends as like what you had expressed and later suffered a lot, thought of cautioning you.
    thanks

I am Exploring SAP as my career path as i am planning to work overseas and this is not possible having only Sales experience.
Please help as I am in dillemma to look SAP as my career path and invest approx 4-5 lacs in it.
I would also have to take a loan for it.
    Please advice.
    Thanx

    Hi
This thing has been discussed many times. This is not advisable that you take loan for starting your career in SAP until and unless you have hundred percent job surety which is almost impossible. You have to sacrifice your prior non IT related experience. When you start career in SAP you start from scratch. Please check this blog where I have shared some tips and my personal experience as well. There are also many other blogs and threads in Career Center which can go through. This query was supposed to be posted in career forum and now some moderator can move it there. You'll get better responses from there.

  • Career in SAP with no proir experience in ERP

    Hello everybody,
I am BS(Computer science) with 2 years of software development experience in J2EE. Although I do not have any experience with ERP or CRM or Supply Chain Management but whenever I heard people talking about ERP & CRM I really get excited.
So I have decided to move my career towards SAP. Furthermore, I am in Pakistan & Siemens offers some SAP certifications which are :
    <a href="http://www.siemens.com/index.jsp?sdc_p=c135fi1175331lmno1397033pst15uz3&sdc_sid=8060024212&">http://www.siemens.com/index.jsp?sdc_p=c135fi1175331lmno1397033pst15uz3&sdc_sid=8060024212&</a>
After some initial research I found out that SAP in Pakistan is adopted by Manufacturing industry therefore I believe that Siemens Pakistan would be good in ERP- SD training than any other SAP CRM or anything like that.
What do you recommend that how do I start my career in SAP? Either as functional i.e.ERP-SD or technical i.e. Netweaver or ABAP.
    Waiting for your helpful answers.
    Regards,
    Hashir Ahmed

    Many thanks Sai & Vinay.
Yes my experience is with J2EE but I'm ready to let go that.
Furthermore, I am more interested in functional role besides that I am not impatient nor looking for an easy route, Netweaver would be easier for me but do you see some one like me obtaining a good position in ERP-SD with on job training(after certification)?
Furthermore, what is exactly the role of person with Netweaver knowledge? Can I move from Netweaver to functional role if I even start from Netweaver & doing so would benefit me?
    Regards,
    Hashir Ahmed

  • Regarding My Career on SAP

    Hi Experts,
I Have Small Doubt About SAP Career.
Presently I am Working in JAVA J2EE Since 2 Years.
Now I Want To Shift My Career in to SAP side.
So Please Suggest me To Divert my JAVA Career in to SAP.
Which Module is Suitable for me to Start My Career in SAP Side.
I am Awaiting for Your Valuable Answers
    Regards
    Babu

    HI Babu
    Welcome to the SAP World.
Moving from Java Career to SAP, it is a tough decision.
In which side you are looking...
    1. technical
    2. functional
    3. Administration.
I think for functional and administration, your java knowledge is not useful. You need some functional knowledge like sales, material management etc....
If you are looking at Technical means, we have
1 .If you are confident in Java then EP is the good choice.
    2. Also there are some good openings on both EP and Dynpros.
    3. If you are good in core java and XI is the choice. For XI, any progrmming knowledge with oops concepts is required. If you know well about Java, then it will be an added advantage..
    Choose the Best you want
    Cheers..
