Should I switch from Macbook to an Ipad 2?

Hi guys,
I know this was covered in another thread a few months back but didn't know if there was any new info with the Ipad 2 update. I'd love to be able to use an IPad 2 for Mainstage—*or something like it*—to run my live setup (just me and a keyboard midi controller).
Does anyone have any stats/info on whether apps like the new Garageband can be rejiggered into some kind of replacement for Mainstage? I'm aware of all the hardware adapters out there to make Midi controllers work. Just wondering if there are any software synths right now that would do a decent job replicating what Mainstage does. It's the only thing holding me back from moving to an IPad.
Thanks!

Guys,
I currently use an iPad (original) to handle any iTunes DJ'ing I might be called upon to do. AFIK, MainStage is a standalone app that comes with Logic Studio, and it would have to be "downsized" to run on an iPad/2, just like GarageBand has been migrated to the iPad/2.
In order for "MainStage for iPad" to be useful, it should enable AU plugins, as in the current configuration. I don't see this capability as yet. Who knows? Maybe Apple will migrate the app and enable this; or a 3rd party will step up to the plate.
I'm currently investigating using a MacBook Air for MainStage performance, etc. I know of one artist who is currently using this as his setup on stage (Cellist Peter Gregson - www.petergregson.co.uk).
I need to load Ivory and a number of other plugins, and I'm currently using a MacBook Pro. For now, the iPad/2 is not viable. Maybe some time in the future?
All the best...
Frank

How do I sync bookmarks from MacBook Pro to iPad in Safari? Thanks

You can sync bookmarks between your Mac and iPad using iCloud.
Instructions here >  Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices.
You get 5GB's of storage space for free.
Mac OS X minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion v10.7.5
If you are not sure which OS X is installed, click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
    The version is noted there.
ICloud has other great features aside from just syncing bookmarks ..

How to sync photos from MacBook Pro to iPad 3 without it automatically deleting previously synced photos, or replacing them with new ones?

How can I create albums in the Photos app on the iPad
Photos that were taken with the iPad (or any photos in the camera roll) can be deleted right on the iPad. Tap the trash can icon in the top right corner if you are viewing the pho,to in full screen, or if you are viewing as thumbnails - tap the arrow in the upper right corner - tap the photos that you want to delete and then tap - Delete.
Photos that were synced from your computer using iTunes can only be deleted by de-selecting them from the folder from where they were synced -  and then re-syncing.

How to transfer movie from MacBook Pro to iPad ?

For transferring videos you could use 'Video Transfer App'. I'm the developer of this universal application (iPhone/iPad) that let's you transfer videos from your iPad or computer directly to another iPhone or iPad.
The app is currently in the Top 25 iPad apps in the photography category.
Here are couple of videos that show how the app works:

  • Best way to send files like photos wireless from Macbook to iPhone/Ipad? And Then vice versa?

What are the ways to send files like photos wireless from Macbook to iPhone/Ipad? And Then vice versa?

    Just one comment on this:
‘If I have, say, an older version of iPhoto but a newer version of one on my new Macbook Pro, will it still transfer photos no problem?’
the problems are ALWAYS in the reverse way, when you have the newest (or a newer) version of a given app, and wish to transfer its library to an older version.
Otherwise, see the link to Pondini.
I have been using Martin Jahn’s iBackup, with which I have become accustomed and works fine. It also makes daily backups. Its advantage over other apps is that you may add whatever you wish to save, beside its default settings (which you may delete or cancel, of course, even if not recommended); it also has a friendly interface and easily customizable. Of course, this is a personal view, you may try other methods as well, or other backup apps. All are good if you are satisfied and correspond to your needs.

  • Should I switch from a 15" Macbook Pro to a 24" iMac?

So I picked up a 15" Macbook Pro last year in October. It's the new body style with black keys. I love it! But As I'm progressing in school (studying Web Design and New Media) I'm finding myself wanting something a little faster and a bigger screen..... So my question is:
    1) Should I sell my Macbook Pro and buy a 24" iMac?
(We use 20" iMacs at my school and they're great. I just like having the option of just putting my laptop in my bag and using it where ever I go.)
So what do you guys think?

The question is really about portability. Depending on which iMac model you get, actual performance may be more or less compared to a MacBook Pro. A recent MacBook Pro like yours is no slouch when it comes to performance...
If portability is not that important, an iMac may make more sense. However, since you already have nice MacBook Pro, why not get a second display to connect to the Mini DisplayPort. Then you can have a display that is as large as an iMac's (or even larger with a dual-link DVI adapter), and still have the portability. Plus you can use both screens at once to extend your Desktop space. Apple's LED Backlit 24-inch Cinema Display is specially designed to compliment the new MacBooks (it even has a MagSafe power connector built in). It is currently showing up on Apple's Special Deals (refurb) page for $699.

You could also opt for something less costly (but just as large), and connect it using an Mini DisplayPort to DVI (or other appropriate) adapter.

  • HT1386 Sync problem from Macbook Pro to iPad 4

I managed to download the music I purchased from iTunes to my Macbook Pro. I also managed to sync the music with my iPhone 5 so that I have all purchased music on the iPhone. However, I fail to sync the same music from the Macbook to my iPad 4. Any clue?

If you don't know what iTunes Match is, you don't use it. You have to subscribe to it before you can use it and I'm sure you would've remembered that. So that rules that one out.
if you have two different Apple ID's - and I mean two different Apple ID's that you have purchased content with, you have to be signed into that account on your iPad in order to sync that content from iTunes.
Podcasts used to appear in the Music App, IIRC but then Apple released a podcast app a while back. If you don't have the podcast app look in the Music App in the More button at the bottom of the screen to see if the podcast is in there. If it is a video podcast look in the Videos App for it.
When you connect your iPad to your Mac, after iTunes is running and you have clicked on your device name in the left sidebar, you want to look in the iTunes window on the right side in order to see what is synced to your device. There is a row of tabs across the top of the window, Summary, Info, Apps, etc.
Click on Music and you should see something like this. I sync selected items - not my entire iTunes library.
Are you seeing this when you sync with iTunes?

  • Does anyone know how to get books from macbook (ibooks) to ipad (ibooks)?

Since updating my macbook I don't know how to get my books from macbook (ibooks) to my ipad. In itunes was easier to place books to ipad.
    Thanx for any reaction.

That is incorrect information. The poster is asking how to move music that is on the the phone to the computer/iTunes. iTunes does not sync from the phone to the computer with music, excpet for things purchased in iTunes. Music that has been placed on the phone would have to have been synced from the iTunes library and should be on the phone. However if you lose a hard drive due to a crash, then you would either have to restore your backup on the computer, or purchase 3fd party software to make the move. Music not purchased from iTunes will not sync back to iTunes from the phone.
