Should I Take Advantage of Adobe's CS3 Special Offer?
Hello,
I just skimmed over the most recent messages here, and was surprised to find any mention of the new upgrade offer for CS3 that Adobe has, and I'm sure that I'm not that special for them to just send this offer to me. Their offering it for $299 until the 16th of next month. That's a little more than half price for it. Of course, it's not the complete extended version, they're still selling for the full price of $649. The difference is that the extended version has 3D and motion graphic editing capabilities.
With all of that said - And in my previous experiences at this forum, I know that there has to be a consideration for when Adobe will come out with an upgrade within the same platform from Elements 5.
The offer is very tempting, with improved Layering - Non-Destructive Smart Filters that keep the original image intact. That alone makes it very tempting.
But perhaps the upgrade from Elements five will have this feature, as well.
Unfortunately, we won't know this until after this CS3 offer has expired.
Thanks for any enlightenment.
Well, I do use a sizable amount of layers, which, of course, I flatten after a certain phase is finished, or if I've created too many layers at a certain point. And as you well know, I create a lot of copies, just case. I also use the extra copies to bring back the original integrity of the image, and to enhance it where possible.
I'm not showing off here what I do, but I'm letting you know that this is the way I go about my editing - To see if CS3 might be worthwhile.
I'm still a humble, very serious amateur, who has much to learn. But I am blessed to have learned from the best teachers here at the forum.

How do I take advantage of Adobe's $9.99 special for PS and Lightroom?
I have already downloaded and installed PS CC successfully, but nothing has prompted me to install Lightroom. LR doesn't even seem to be part of the CC app group.
Hmmm, You take advantage of the offer? or is it the other way arund?
I am interested to know how many people are jumping on this one. Since I own LR 5, why should I now pay a monthly fee? No discount for owners, but an incentive to get roped into a subscription.
The ad says limited time offer, but when I chatted with a rep I was told that this would be an on-going service and that I would be able to renew next year at the same price. So, this tells me that it is NOT a limited time offer, but a way to move us away from the perpetual licence and into the monthly subscription service.
I have very little need for Photoshop since starting to use LR. -
How do I take advantage of all the space I should have!?
My iPod nano(2G) isn't being able to use all of its space for music. I should be able to use 1.83Gs, but it doesn't even let me add ONE SONG! How do I take advantage of all the space I should have!?!?!?!?!?!
Windows XPWhat format are the songs you have imported? The advertised song capacity of iPod is based on 4 minute songs encoded in AAC format at a bit rate of 128 kbps. Longer songs and songs encoded at a higher bitrate or in uncompressed formats take up more space, that's probably why you are getting fewer on. Go to iTunes and right click on one of your songs, choose Get Info>Summary and look at "Kind" to see what format you are using: iTunes: About import settings and hard disk space

Hello, All
I recently upgraded to Adobe Photoshop CS3 for serious image manipulation and realized Bridge would (Should!) solve some frustrations with iPhoto's organization characteristics (such as its inability to sort named filmrolls alphabetically other than by drag and drop). But I still want to use iPhoto as the primary application to view, slightly modify, create slideshows and email images, because sometimes Photoshop is overkill.
Bridge allows, in Preferences, to specify the application to open images, and defaults to Adobe Photoshop CS3. After browsing and changing the application to iPhoto, and navigating to an original photo in iPhoto/Library/Originals/FolderName, and then double clicking the image in Bridge, it opens the iPhoto application but then fails to open the image. The error message displayed is "the following file could not be imported. The file is in the iPhoto library," and then the path to the file is also displayed.
Well, of course the file is in the iPhoto library because that's what my Mac defaults to import all photos with (or did in the past, and I might change that).
So, if you have beared with me this far, my question is -- does anybody know how to make Adobe Bridge 3 open images in iPhoto properly? Obviously, I'm missing something, and would appreciate your help. Thanks.
MacBook, iMacG5 & iBookG4 Mac OS X (10.4.9) iLife6, Canon iP6600D, Sony DSC-H2You can use Bridge to view the Originals folder of your iPhoto library but you can't do any editing, moving, renaming, etc. as that's the same as Tampering with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder. A big NO-NO. But you can view them and their metadata.
Bridge is primarily a browser with metadata capabilities associated with an editor. And, as PhillyPhan pointed out, is exclusive from iPhoto.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Will Not Install PLEASE HELP TRIED EVERYTHING
I downloaded from Adobe the Photoshop CS3 Extended Trial directly from Adobe. (BTW I am on Vista 32)
The first time I tried installing, ADBEPHSPCS3_WWE.exe successfully unpacked, I successfully transitioned to the Adobe Photoshop CS3 installation, and it appeared to install. After 30 minutes or so, the installer finished and simply said that shared components had installed but the Photoshop CS3 Component install failed.
I always got in the log Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC,version="8.0.50727.163",type="win32",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18 e3b",processorArchitecture="x86"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information
This, I know, is everyones typical problem.
I turned off firewall and antivirus.
I uninstalled ALL Adobe and Macromedia programs, including Flash and Acrobat.
I used Windows Install Cleanup Utility to remove them.
I downloaded the CS3 Clear from Adobe and cleared at levels 1, 2, and 3.
I created the Administrator account on my computer and tried everything on the Administrator account.
I tried installing Photoshop CS3 with compatibility mode for XP SP2.
I tried:
1. Open an Administrator command prompt by right clicking on Start -> All
Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt and selecting "Run as
Administrator" and clicking "Allow" for the elevation prompt
2. In the command prompt, type the command below
fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\
3. Reboot the machine
I tried:
Get command prompt up. It has to be run with admin rights so save yourself some time and run it this way.........Start/programs/accessories/.....right click command prompt and click run as administrator.
Then paste these commands in 1 after the other
regsvr32 vbscript.dll (THEN PRESS ENTER)
and
regsvr32 jscript.dll (AGAIN PRESS ENTER)
I even tried installing in Safe Mode but the CS3 setup would not initialize.
I do not know what else to do. I have CS2 which I will use, but I was really hoping to move to CS3 which is supposed to be better and faster. Does anyone know anything else to do? I am not a computer noob but I am not about to reinstall Vista. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.I was in the same predicament and after spend many hours over several days trying a multitude of things I finally found an easy fix (below):
========================================
Assuming you have Internet Explorer 7 go to:
Tools/Internet option/Advanced
Click the Reset dialog box. This will bring IE7 back to its default settings. You should reboot your computer. After logging back into Windows load IE and let it take you though its initial setup. When you are done close IE and install Photoshop.. This worked for me,,, hopefully it will work for you! -
Adobe Premiere CS3 will not open!
Adobe premiere CS3 will not open. When I click on the Adobe icon on my desktop, I get this message: This application has failed to start because prm.dll was not found. I've tried several things such as: uninstalling the program then reinstalliing it. I tried to open Adobe by clicking on one of my projects by opening MY Computer from start on the taskbar, then click on c drive, etc. but it will not open. Before I started getting the error message stated above, when I clicked on the icon, the program would load to the point of showing the top portion of the page (file, edit, etc.) then stop. It would never fully load. HELP!!!!! I'm in the middle of trying to meet several deadlines.
First, search your system for every instance of prm.dll. See if you have one (could be corrupt, but a Repair Install should have repaired it) in your PrPro CS3 folder hierarchy. Do you have any more? How do the dates and sizes compare to the one, if there is one, in PrPro? Here is a LINK to a .dll site. I do not know this site, so cannot even comment on their .dll's. I'd do the first suggestion, well - first.
Also, I do not know this .dll. It could be a VST from an Audio editing program, or similar. Some of these have been known to bring PrPro to its knees, at launch. Might be worthwhile to check into it a bit more.
Also, take a look at Event Viewer. This ARTICLE will give you some tips on what to look for. Could be more happening, than the error message might lead one to believe.
Good luck,

Here is my experience with Leopard and Adobe Web CS3.
-Installed Leopard on my intel imac without a hitch
-Installed CS3 without any problems
-Flash CS3 runs great. PS and DW seems to run well too, but havn't got to take PS and DW through all its paces
One Caveat: the pull down menus in CS# that have the "more" arrow, the flyouts don't activate as smoothly as they should, I have to click on the "more" arrow to see the flyouts. At least, that is the way it is in Flash CS3. The flyouts activated on "Mouse Over" previously in Tiger.
I would very much like to see this fixed...Adobe....Right now Adobe is saying things won't be patched until January. Hang in there! (adobe.com)

Adobe InDesign CS3 not running?
i get a crash report as soon as i try to run Adobe InDesign CS3 any help on it? i as something that they are working on it? how soon can i see this happening is there any thing I can do to fix it? i need this for school by monday to get this big project done. pleas help.
I see you posted two topics with the same problem. Not smart. But here is my answer from the other topic in this one as well. I hope it helps you out.
InDesign CS3 worked fine for me, for a week. Now it crashes on launch too. On rare occasions where it doesn't crash on launch it will crash opening any file.
Adobe recommends people do a clean install of Leopard instead of an upgrade to prevent this. This is what I read on their website. I did a clean install, and yet InDesign crashes. So no luck with that tip. I managed to get it working this morning.
* I deleted all application font caches using (free) FontExplorer (Linotype)
* I deleted all applications with the official installer (it has that option)
* I switched off as many fonts as possible to eliminate corrupt font issues
* I re-installed InDesign, ran Adobe Updater and rebooted my system
After that. It ran.
No explanation for why it started crashing before. Maybe this works for you. It wil take some time though so make yourself some coffee or something :-S
Adobe should look into this.
About fonts not working:
Leopard is very strict with fonts I noticed. Some of my (legally purchased and non corrupt) fonts that worked in Tiger no longer work or work incorrectly in Leopard (noticably when using old style figures in fonts that have no regular figures).
Not good. -
Premiere Pro CS6 to Take Advantage of High-End Hardware
Here is an interesting video where David Helmly of Adobe demonstrates the advantages of Xeon processors plus a Quadra 2000 and a Tesla 2750 in a Maximus configuration. Evidently Premiere Pro CS6 has been redesigned to take advantage of higher end hardware that only demonstrated a marginal performance advantage in CS5 - CS5.5. David also mentioned increased program stability. The 2750 must be a new card, perhaps under development. I couldn't find mention of it anywhere online, Nvidia's Website etc.
Here is the video
Other Tesla cards I looked at were in the $4000 range. Would like to look at benchmarks of the very high-end system David spoke of in the video.James.. It's probably too technical for me to explain, but see this link: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/xeon-e5-2687w-benchmark-review,3149-10.html from a recent review by Tom's Harware Review. I was originally expecting that a 3930 would produce output much the same as a similarly clocked E5 Xeon, however, there seems to be more to the puzzle. FYI, E5-1600 series are single socket CPUs, E5-2600 are for dual socket boards. A "W" on the end denotes workstation processor. Hope this helps.
I'm also in need of upgrading (Pr-Pro 5.5 with an older Bad-Ax2 MD w/quad X6700 CPU - ancient for HD needs). Was considering a 3930 or new i7-3770 Ivy Bridge set up, but maybe should consider spending big bucks $$$. By the way, I found a 460GTX, at a good price, with 336 Cuda cores and ran the hack. It does help quite a bit, but 1080P AVCHD still is tough on the timeline.
Curious to get your takes on the Toms reviews/ benchmark results.

Adobe Bridge CS3 crashes on load in my Windows 7 workstation.
Adobe Bridge CS3 crashes on load in my Windows 7 workstation.
I recently completely removed, deactivated and reinstalled all my Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Master Collection to solve some problems with other application from the suite and now I'm surprise Bridge continues to fail. In my portable workstation the same software (Bridge) uses to work.
I tried launching Bridge under several compatibility modes. All failed.
Is there any know bug I should be aware of? Any fix?
Is this a common problem?Curt Y. Thank you for your answer.
It was only Bridge who was crashing. It failed to load and Windows was giving an error message.
I tried your suggestion, and resetting all options in the reset window it now loads. It was as simple as that. -
Don't have permission to delete files in Preview or Adobe Bridge CS3
Help!
I'm unable to delete image files in Preview or Adobe Bridge CS3.
Workflow:
1. Take a bunch of photos on my Nikon
2. Load them to my MacBook Pro, 10.6.3
3. Open them in Preview and right-click "Move to Trash" on the photos that I don't want.
==> this results in "Move to Trash Failed. Some files could not be moved to Trash."
4. If I open the bunch of photos in Adobe Bridge CS3 and command-delete the photos that I don't want
==> I get "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient permissions."
I am logged in as the same user who loaded the image files.
Permission on the image folder start out at
me: Read & Write
admin: Read only
everyone: Read only
but even if I change all to Read & Write, I still get the same errors.
What's going on?????
Thanks.Did you ever figure this one out? I'm having the same issue...

Why is my iPhone no longer able to communicate with adobe bridge cs3?
We have 2 iphone 4's that I have been able to download photos from and into my imac for the last year while using the adobe bridge cs3. Recently, it began giving me an error meassage: " Adobe bridge cs3 cannot obtain files from this device. Please ensure that the device is connected properly,or that the battery is charged, adn try again".
I did both and that message still pops up. My usb ports are working fine as well as the usb cords(as far as I know of) and the batteries are fully charged when I do so. So what is the deal here??? If anyone can please help I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!!!Maro,
I'm running VISTA on my PC. None of the suggestions solved the problem. I uninstalled iTunes removing all suggested files from another post and reinstalled iTunes 11.1.3 and removed the iTunes Ibarra from my iPhone Remote. I restarted the computer, iPhone & router. I added the iTunes library to my iPhone remote. I didn't get an icon on the menu bar of the iTunes on the PC but a dialog came up asking for the code which was on my phone. I typed in the code and the library showed up on my iPhone Remote. I selected it and got an error message that it couldn't connect. This is extremely weird and frustrating. What should I do now?

Adobe Bridge CS3 photo downloader won't auto-open.
Hi,
This is my mystery:
I can open Bridge/File/Get Photos From Camera/, and select my cf card drive. But the Photo Downloader box USED to pop up when I first put my card in the reader. This does not happen any more - and I can't figure out why, or how to reset it.
Any ideas?
Bridge 2.1.1.9
Windows XP Pro 64-bit
Thanks,
Karl GThis may add Bridge to your list of "Open XXX with" programs.
1) Using Windows Explorer, browse to any of the photographs on your system - not necessarily on your camera card. It's helpful if all of your photographs are JPGs or TIFs, but not necessary.
2) Right-click one of the photo files and select "Properties".
3) Near the top of that dialog is "Open with <program name>", and there should be a "Change..." button to the right of that. Click the Change button.
4) On the "Open With" dialog, click the "Browse..." button and browse to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS3\Bridge.exe and click OK.
5) Now, still on the "Open With" dialog, make sure the "Always use the selected program..." check-box is turned OFF. (If you can't turn it off, that shouldn't be a problem.
6) Click OK and then close your Windows Explorer.
At this point, you should be able to complete step 6) from my previous post. (Of course you'll have to follow all of those steps from my previous post.) -
Adobe Bridge CS3 Default Folder
How do I change the Adobe Bridge CS3 default folder?
I still had no way to change Open With Default. MAybe I should just upgrade Bridge.
While CS3 is not the best version of Bridge and the changing upgrade policy of Adobe (until december you can upgrade to CS6 with 3 versions back, after that it is only possible to upgrade with one version back
But I still don't understand what you are looking for, in the subject line it states default folder but you want to have open the files in PSCS3?
While that should indeed be the default but if that is not the case with you what does your system as default application?
In Bridge preferences you have also file type associations that give you the option to set default application to open with per file type.
And on your Mac you can select a file type in the Finder and choose 'get info'. In this window you also can set open with and apply to all. -

does anyone know what it means or how to fix it.
thanksThe objc_msgSend call looks like you've been bitten by a longstanding bug in Apple's ObjectiveC runtime -- it doesn't like things to get unloaded, ever. If you have a third party plugin (even a scanner driver) that you used during that session and that plugin used ObjectiveC (Cocoa), then it could crash when you close that plugin or when you exit the application.
Take a look at the plugins you use, and any other drivers (like the scanner) that you might be using. Not using them (or removing them) may solve the problem.
