Should I turn iPod Touch off, or sleep?

When I do not plan to use my iPT for many hours, e.g. overnight, is it "best" to simply let it sleep, or should I turn it off?

If it's going to be "down" for more that 3 or 4 hours then I turn it off.
Which will certainly do no harm. However, it's not necessary, nor will it harm the Touch if you don't turn it off.

Just to make sure, when the ipod touch is in sleep mode, you have to hold the sleep/wake button for a second before it starts up right?
I have an iphone and I bought the touch for a friend, so I am use to tapping the home button on my ihpone and the it starting instantly.
    Thanks guys

Hi BG81: When the iPod touch is asleep, you can also tap the home button to wake it up.

  • Turning iPod Touch off while music is playing

This is less a pressing problem than it is a slight annoyance, but I'm curious to know if it's happening to anyone else and if there's an easy fix. I've had my 8GB iPod Touch for three days, and I've noticed that if I shut it off while music is playing, when I turn it back on the song that is playing won't be the one I had been listening to, but one I listened to like three or four songs ago. This hasn't happened just once or twice, it's every time I turn the iPod off and then on. This Touch is the latest in a long line of iPods I've owned, and every one has always turned back on with the same song playing that I had been listening to when I turned it off. Is this some weird memory problem? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Elias,
I think what you describe is just the way the Touch works.
I hadn't really noticed it because I haven't turned my Touch completely of for months and months ('til just now), I just put it to sleep.
There is no need to turn it completely off unless your not going to use it for maybe a week or so, as I say, I just put it to sleep when I'm not using it and haven't had any problems with battery life. When I wake it up it starts off back where I left it.
If did plan to turn it off it would be because it would not be used for a long time and then I wouldn't even remember what was playing after that long.
Hope this info is of some use,
    Dud.

  • Is it bad to turn your iPod touch off every night? If I don't, the screen will be blank/distorted.

I just got my new iPod touch from Fry's electronic, and just last night, I put it on sleep thoughout the whole night. I wake up, press the home button, and it lights up a gradiant grey-white. It happened the other day when I was playing with Draw Something. I then tried turning it off, and it took forever. But now its working. So I was wording if it's bad/not the best to turn your iPod touch off everynight, and if you do it?

I just let my iPod sleep overnight. I turn on airplane mode to minimnize battery drain.

  • My iPod Touch 4G Lock/Sleep Button Will Not Work

I recently had an incident with my iPod Touch 4G where the screen was shattered to the point of no use. I sent my iPod Touch off to a Non Apple repair place (good example of why you should NEVER do this) due to me not having enough money to get apple to fix it and there not being a warranty on my device. When I got it back everything is working except for the lock/Sleep button.  I asked about it and the person I had repair it said that he could not find what was wrong with it.  Is there any way that I can fix this without paying a large price or am I never going to be able to get this fixed?  I cant turn it on without plugging it in, lock it, or unlock it and it is really annoying and I am thinking about just getting rid of it if I can't get it fixed.
"Note: I have tried a full restore 2 times and it did not fix the issue. I also had the person check all the ribbon cables and they are all fine and correctly attached."

Try #2 and #3 in link below. If neither work, you most likely have a hardware issue.

  • Should i buy ipod touch 5g now or wait?

Should i buy ipod touch 5g now or wait? I read in here, many people said this model has many problems, frozen screens, titles songs are not line up in order, imessage can't send, etc.. what do you think?
I can afford for the 32g, the first one i had was nano and i dont' want to waste and upset if it's not good as it should be. Or i should wait until September when the new one come out?

There is no fifth-generation iPod touch at this time. The current units are still the forth-generation hardware.
As to seeing issues here, that's what these forums are for, people with problems. Those millions who are having no problems have little incentive to post here, so you get a skewed viewpoint as to how prevalent any problems really are. It's rather like judging the overall health of a community only by visiting the local hospital. The reality is that you're most likely going to have no problems at all, though no one can guarantee that, of course.
Anyway, it's up to you whether you wish to wait. None of us here know when Apple will release a new model of the iPod touch, nor even if they will, so your guess is as good as ours how long you might have to wait.
    Regards.

  • Buying Ipod touch off a friend

Buying the ipod touch off a friend how do i change the devise soo it's registered to me and not her

You can connect to iTunes and restore to factory new. What also might work is to erase all content and settings via that reset options in Settings>General>Reset. The latter one can take hours.

  • HT1414 I had my ipod touch off and when I tried to turn it off the best I could get was the apple logo than that went out.  I can't get it come on at all.  It was working fine earlier and nothing has happen to it.

I tried to turn on my ipod touch and the best I could get was the apple logo and even that went out.  I tried charging it with no luck.  It had charge yesterday when I turned it off but now I can't get anything at all.  Any suggestions???

If the reset does not work try the remaining items:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Trouble turning iPod touch screen off

This problem started a few days ago. Sometimes (mostly at night for some reason) I have difficulty turning my screen off by the button at the top of my iPod. Pressing it once gives me the screen for turning my iPod off completely instead of going to a black screen. I have to press the home button and then press the top one to black out the screen. This has happened so far only after I change the music I'm listening to.
Also, occasionally I am able to turn the screen black and it will turn back on about a second later though I didn't touch anything.
Any help with one or both of these problems would be truly appreciated.

    (Never mind this post.)

  • Turning the iPod Touch off.

Whenever I turn off my iPod Touch 32gb and turn it back on, it starts off with recovery mode, and then it makes me restore the iPod on iTunes. This has happened quite a few times, and everytime I restore I lose all my songs and apps. Is this supposed to happen?

IM having the same problem. What happened to me was i tried to update my ipod from 2.2.1 firmware on a 2gen ipod touch, to FW 3.0. in the middle of the update (the bar on the pod was about halfway complete) i recieved an error message, the pod went black, and HAS NOT turned on or ANYTHING since then. NO hard reset, no restore. NOTHING is working. Plugging into the comp and it says the USB has encountered an error, but no resolution. I Tried to plug it into the wall socket for about 5 hrs and still no action from the pod.
It seems to be a FW issue of it not installing completely/properly. SOoooooOoo... where do i go from here???

  • How to put iPod touch 5g to sleep while listening to a song on youtube?

right now if i put the ipod to sleep then it stops playing the song on youtube.  any way i can fix this?

If you go into Settings>General>Auto-Lock and tap Never, your iPod should stay on... Of course this will drain the battery in a few hours because the screen is staying active all the time, or until you manually lock it / turn it off. And if a thief picks it up they will be able to use your iPod also, at least until they manually turn the screen off. Things to think about. Hope this helps. Cheers.
