Should I uninstall Firefox 3.6.6 before Upgrading to OSX 10.6?

I want absolutely no glitches when I upgrade my MacBookPro from OSX 10.5.8 to 10.6.3. I use Safari as my main browser and Firefox only when a website does not work well with Safari. Therefore, I thought it might be best to uninstall Firefox before I upgrade, because I can always re-install Firefox after I have upgraded. What do you think? I have AppZapper to use to uninstall Firefox since it will search out and collect all Preference lists, etc., that accompany Firefox, resulting in a complete and clean uninstall. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hello Gordon.
I don't know if you should uninstall Firefox before upgrading Mac OS X (I don't think so, in any case), but you may be interested in knowing how to back up your information, if you are afraid of loosing it in the upgrade:

  • What is the best way to backup my computer before upgrading from OSX 10.5.8 to 10.6?

What is the best way to backup my computer before upgrading from OSX 10.5.8 to 10.6? I just purchased a WD portable external hard drive.

Use Carbon Copy Cloner http://www.bombich.com/index.html or SuperDuper.  http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html  Both make a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive.

  • Deinstalling Creative Cloud applications before upgrading Mac OSX?

Hello, I believe that I need to deinstall my Creative Cloud applications before upgrading my Mac OSX, but my question is whether I need to deinstall each application separately, or if simply deinstalling the Creative Cloud under Adobe Installers would handle everything. And then I need to reinstall each application separately?
    Thank you
    Chris

    Hi chris2500,
First thing that you need to do is deactivate your software from the machine. In order to do so you have to launch any CC application/ go to help and select sign out. For uninstalling the software you will have to uninstall all the apps seperately.
For installing the apps download CC desktop and start downloading. The download will proceed in a sequence.

  • Since I must stick with my OS X 10.5.8, should I uninstall Firefox 16 and re-install Firefox 15.0.1?

Or, since both have security problems for OS 10.5.8 that Apple refuse to acknowledge (their way of forcing us to upgrade - very Microsoft-esque!), should I just switch to Safari or Chrome, both of which I hate. I really want to stay with Firefox. How much of a security risk is it? For comparison purposes, how much would the upgrade to 10.8 cost in the US (I live in Ireland), please?
All and any help would be much appreciated - thanking you in advance.

    Hi fnibhriain
Do NOT uninstall 16.0 because it is the latest compatible for your 10.5 mac
see: [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/16.0/system-requirements/ Firefox 16 System Requirements]
[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-no-longer-works-mac-os-x-10-5 Firefox no longer works with Mac OS X 10.5]
the upgrade from 10.5 to 10.8 the cost is 45-50 dollars see why:

  • Should I uninstall the Lightroom 4 trial before installing Lightroom 5 which I just purchased?

I have LR4 installed as a trial.  I just purchased LR5, do I need to uninstall LR4 before installing LR5?

    Hi Amy1957,
Adobe recommends uninstalling the older version of the software before installing the newer version.

  • I recently updated to Firefox 4. It worked that whole day, but next morning I get a crash error message and cannot get into Firefox. I've tried some suggestions on the site, but no help. Should I uninstall Firefox, then reinstall.

I can't even get into Firefox to troubleshoot

I don't know if this helps, but I'm still working on this problem and took a screen shot of my Console Message errors:
What's happening here is opening the program, trying to save and it crashes. Then trying to open the program again and it crashing before it even opens.  Finally opening the program a third time and trying to save it using "save as" instead of "save" (which I found one forum recommending) and it crashing again.

  • HT4759 Before upgrading to OSX Mountain Lion from Lion, my mail and iCloud connections were fine. Now, the connection is almost non-existent (iCloud "connecting" forever, mail icon jumps). My network is good. Any solutions?

Does anyone know how to eliminate the "jumping mail icon" that stems from iCloud not connecting correctly? I just upgraded to Mountain Lion from Lion and before, everything was fine, but now the synch between iCloud and mail seems to be out of whack and the "connection doctor" doesn't help and nothing seems to get rid of the problem.

  • HT1338 do i need to backup my harddrive before upgrading from OSX v. 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard?

I'm installing Mac OSX Snow Leopard.  I currently have OSX v. 10.5.8
I'm worried if I install it, I might lose all of my data?  Is this a concern or will the new OS just replace the old OS without any data ramifications?

You must do that. An upgrade doesn't erase your files, but you must make a copy if it goes wrong and you have to reinstall

  • Should I uninstall SMCFanControl before upgrading to 10.4.9?

Did anyone successfully update to 10.4.9 with SMCFanControl installed? I didn't know if this should be uninstalled prior to updating?

I upgraded my MacBook Pro without any problems with SMC running (2.0 if that makes a difference).
So far my machine has been running fine.

  • Uninstall and/or Deactivate CS4 before Installing CS5?

    (Win 7 64, Production Premium CS4)
I know this question has been asked a lot; I've read a dozen threads on the subject but I can't find a definitive answer ... so I thought I'd ask:
Should I uninstall Prod Prem CS4 first, before I install Prod Prem CS5?
Is there a risk that the CS5 upgrade installer won't run, because it doesn't "see" a prior, qualifying version?
(maybe the CS5 installer needs to find certain CS4 files to validate the upgrade?)
    Thank you All.
ps - I'd like to run both versions at once but I'm trying to conserve space on my OS/Apps disk, which is an SSD.
    thanks again,
    Richard

Okay never mind, thanks anyway - I spoke with Adobe Chat Support and got the answer - Adobe recommends keeping the existing version and upgrading next to it, but if you want to conserve space you can uninstall (and deactivate) CS4 first.
The CS5 upgrade installer does not need to "see" any files from a prior version, you simply use your CS4 (or whatever version you're upgrading from) serial number to activate CS5.5.

  • Uninstalling Photoshop CS5.5.1 before installing Photoshop CS6

Should I uninstall Photoshop CS5.5.1 before installing Photoshop CS6? If so, how do I do it?

You can remove the software by going to Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers.  You will find the uninstallers located there.

  • Windows 7 upgrade advisor, from Vista, says that Firefox must be uninstalled before upgrading and that I won't be able to reinstall it, is this true?

I am currently running Vista, 32-bit. I am considering upgrading to Windows 7. I ran the Upgrade Advisor Report and it says "Mozilla Firefox 20.0.1 Must be uninstalled before upgrading to Windows 7. You will not be able to reinstall it after upgrading to Windows 7." This appears to be inaccurate info, based on the Firefox website, but I want to verify what I should do before beginning the upgrade. Leave Firefox installed and in place when I upgrade, or uninstall and then re-install after the upgrade?

hello herplaw, you're right, this doesn't sound right - firefox will run fine on windows 7. i'd leave it installed and go ahead with the update. in any case (if you'd have to reinstall it later) you could also back-up the personal information that is stored in your firefox profile before you proceed: [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]

  • If i install new version of Firefox with standalone installer instead of using built in updater, should i uninstall older version first? Would i lose my datas?

As part of end of year maintenance program, i clean my computer and update softwares. I'm currently with Firefox 4.0.1, and want to upgrade to 8. However, the built in updater downloads horribly slow and demands the browser to be active. Most of the times it stated failure and asks me to download the installer myself.
I'm okay with this. Firefox has always be my favorite. But before i do 8.0.1's installation, should i uninstall the old one? Or will it be rewritten automatically? Would i lose my bookmarks and extensions this way?
    Win7 64 bit
p.s: (if someone could tell me how to back up 'Scrapbook' data i'll be so thankful)

You can install latest version on top of older version, and if you install on top of older version, your bookmark will restored

  • Uninstalled Firefox 6 because it was crashing every few minutes, now cannot install because no administrator privileges. never had this problem before, how am going to install anything?

lasst couple of days Firefox would crash for unknown reasons. this problem did not occur until I instatlled firefox 6. Last night it crashed several times over a 15 minute time span. I uninstalled firefox and then tried to reinstall. pop up window required I have administration privileges in order to install. Never required this before. I have windows 7 and have no desire to have to completely reinstall software becasue firefox 6 was so unstable.

I read a way on another forum to fix this problem. Right click on the setup.exe and select "Run as administrator" this should solve your problem.

  • Firefox can't open normally without going through the "this is embarrassing" routine; nor does it close down properly; it also sticks frequently, i.e. screen freezes for a minute or more; should I uninstall and re-install to try and debug?

Firefox can't open normally without going through the "this is embarrassing" routine; nor does it close down properly; I get the "end program" message and have to say "end now"it also sticks frequently, i.e. screen freezes for a minute or more; should I uninstall and re-install to try and debug?
    - I've used Firefox exclusively for around 2 years.
    - My outlook express has no problems
    - other programs seem unaffected; it seems peculiar to Firefox.
    - my main use is surfing the net, primarily entering competitions on line via specialist competition sites.
    - every day at some stage(s) I have to switch computer off as Firefox has got very slow/sticky/freezes.
I'm not techy by any means, but I can only thing of un- and re-installing to hopefully start with a clean slate.

Sounds like something is keeping Firefox from closing properly. See this: <br />
