Should I update my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.0.1 or better or better wait until iOS 5.0.2 comes out.

My iPhone 4 has 5.0 update and after reading people reviews on iOS 5.0.1 I really don't want to update my iPhone. My iPhone 4 battery is ok and I don't have fast drain problems. Is it really really one of the worst Apple apdates. Please help me to decide update or to wait. Thanks.

Update it or don't. It's not mandatory.  I do not believe it's "one of the worst updates" as I have applied every OS update Apple has offered me since 1984, and have yet to have a problem that was not caused by me.

just updated my iPhone 4s to ios6, now my phone won't turn back on. The apple logo comes on and sits then shuts off. Then comes back on and just sits.I have held down the home button and on/off switch several times to reset, but same problem persists.

Place iPhone on Wall Charger for at least 10 minutes. Then keep on charger and Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, this can take about 20 seconds of holding both buttons while on charger. If still problem, open iTunes 10.7 on computer, connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable, hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, then click Restore button of iTunes. If still problem, try DFU Mode Restore, here are the steps. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power buttons, after exactly 10 seconds release the Power Button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds time. If the iPhone screen is black, blank this is DFU Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes. DFU Mode can be difficult to enter sometimes, just keep trying. DFU Mode is a black, blank screen with iTunes saying Recovery Mode. If still problem and there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution.

  • Should i update my iphone 4s ios 7.1.2 to 8.1

im using iphone 4s, ios 7.1.2
after reading all the reviews of ios 8, im scared to update to ios 8.1
to be honest right now i wont able to effort a 5s.
so if i update it , n it lags like iphone 4 when it was updated to ios 7, then i dont wann update... because i dont like using a laggy phone.
so guys please help me out...

    I will share my experience,
I'm loving the change to 8.1 from 6.3.1, it is much faster and cleaner in look. Now for a fuller disclosure:
this is the first iPhone (a 4s) and I've only had it for a week before I updated to 8.1, aaanndd, it was just reset as new so it was as clean as could be for it's age. I have no issues to report, wait, I did have it "hang" when I updated. It went thru the download and started the install and then the bar stopped for several hours near the end and I though I just created a brick, and no it turns out I didn't. While reading all these posts I read about just (again this was after an unusually long time) shutting everything off, waiting for a short period (few minutes for me) rebooting. The phone said that it was updated and wanted to go thru the process to complete and activate as normal. Most all of my info was there.
    That's my 2¢ worth...

  • Should I update my iPhone 4 (4.1 to 5.0.1) or stay outdated? NEED HELP, PLEASE!!!!!!?

Ok, I know that this may be long but bear with me, really need your help guys!!!!
Ok, so a few years ago, I bought an iPhone 4 (I was in Zimbabwe, now in the US) that was factory unlocked from what I can tell. Reason why I "THINK" it's unlocked is because
    1. It did not have Cydia installed when I got it, just stock with native apps only
    2. Running on 02.10.04 Baseband (That cannot be Cydia Unlocked), I manage used several Network Providers and all Sim cards worked and still do, no problems. (Using T-Mobile Now)
    3. Model Number is MC603B, and according to my research, it is a factory unlocked model.
    Unless im mistaken???????
Here we go. The iOS 5.0.1 is out and I am now running iOS 4.1 (Jailbroken), which is really bakward, so loads of tweaks and apps cant run on my outdated iOS and i want iOS 5. I have heard people all over the internet complain that after the iOS5 upgrade, their phones locked-up and can't dowgrade or activate after the update, so if that happens im STUCK forever, and I really dont know what to do!!!!
    HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS:
    1. Is my phone really factory unlocked, based on what I listed above? Or is there any other way of checking???
    2. If I DO update, do I risk locking-up my phone????
***3. Should I update it "while preserving my baseband" and still manage to Activate it, or just leave it to update my baseband????? PLEASE HELP. Read my questions carefully and answer on what you think.
    Thanks alot guys

Well, since the iPhone is not officially sold in Zimbabwe, & that's where you purchased it, you can pretty much count on the fact that it was hacked to unlock it, regardless of what you think or see. Thus, you can be pretty much assured that if you update software your phone will be re-locked to the carrier it was originally locked to.

  • HT4623 should I update my iPhone 4 to 7.0.2? I have heard I shouldnt do the update.

should I update to 7.0.2 on my iPhone 4? I have heard there are problems for the iPhone 4 and should not do this.

Your phone should still work, just make sure iTunes backs up your phone and the update will download and install smoothly.
Also make sure youre using the latest version of iTunes (10.5) before you start the update.

  • Should I update my Iphone 4 ios from 6.1.2 to 7.0.6?

Hi, I've seen complaints from people with iphone 4's who updated to the ios 7 last year. I was wondering if these issues have been resolved and whether I should upgrade from IOS 6.1.2 to IOS 7.0.6?

There are complaints about every version of iOS related to every version of the iPhone.
Not updating due to complaints on a support forum is just silly.
There are no issues with iOS7 on the iPhone 4.
Update the device if you desire the most current functionality and security updates.

  • Should I update my iPhone 4 to the latest iOS (6.1?)?

I have an iPhone 4 and am running 5.1.1. I usually get the very latest software but I had an issue with my 3G when I upgraded to 4.0, so I am hesitant this time. Should I upgrade to 6.1 now? I heard there could be SIGNIFICANT loss in battery life. Does this occur often? Any other problems I should be worried about, or have they worked everything out?
    Thoughts?

Take notice this update can take a long time to process. I have an iPhone 4 and the download was a breeze but the update took over 30 minutes.
At least twice there was a block of time of almost 10 minutes in length where it appeared the phone had just frozen. There was the white Apple icon and a progress bar that had absolutely no progress on it for 10 minutes straight.
The temptation to unplug it and restart the process is strong. Resist it.
This update involves updating your firmware. If you unplug the phone in the middle of that you might have a brick on your hands.
This could very well be the problem several people are experiencing when they loose all their contacts etc. Do not unplug the phone until the process is totally finished.
You will know it is finished when your phone restarts with a screen that has a very large iOS6.

  • Should I update my iPhone 4 to iOS 7?

Will my iPhone be significantly slower or laggy with iOS 7? My iPhone currently has iOS 6.1.3 and it can be a tad bit laggy at times, so will iOS 7 be too much for my phone to handle? I'm just wondering if it's worth it.

  • I updated my iPhone 4 from iOS5 to5.0.1, How I can return to iOS 5?

When I bought my iPhone 4 (last May), came with iOS 4.2.3 and in my opinion the battery did not last long, when I upgraded to iOS 5, the battery life was much, much better, but now with the new IOS 5.0.1 the battery does not last long, lost 8% in 10 minutes playing vz Plants Zombies without modifying any settings in my iPhone. Before upgrading, I could play up to 30 mins and the battery just fell + / -10%.
Is there any way to return to the IOS version 5?

I think that the person above is wrong.  There is no way to go from iOS5 back to 4.  But I believe you can go from 5.0.1 back to 5.0 if apple is still signing the firmware.  I dont think they would have stopped so quickly.  Try and download the 5.0 firmware from the internet and when you go into itunes,  hold shift and press restore.  It will then ask you to locate your firmware file,  pick the 5.0 file you downloaded and it will restore from that.  You used to be able to do this,  so unless they changed it after 5.0 I think you still can.
Give it a try.  Unfortunately for me my battery is absolutely terrible and drains at an alarming rate on both 5.0 and 5.0.1 ... I'd LOVE to go back to the last version of iOS4.  It was a million times better and my battery was the best I had ever seen from a phone in my life running iOS4 on my iPhone4.  Now Gone from the best to EASILY the worst battery experience.

  • The last two times I have updated my iphone 4 it has stopped during the process and has to be completely restored.  This wipes out the memory that was used previously and it doesn't come back.  Now with update to ver 6 it did the same thing.  Why?

Ver 6 wipes out the iphone 4 and it won't restore.
    What is wrong with apple?
It did the same thing with ver 5

    Hi there,
According to the article below, the error may be related to a hardware issue. Take a look below for troubleshooting steps.
Resolve iOS update and restore errors
    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
