Should I update my iPod touch or not?
Reading all the problems people got after updating, im having a doubt on wether I should update it or not.

My IPod touch will not update, My IPod touch will not update
I have tried to download the most recent update to my IPod touch, and every time I receive an error message. The update will start to download and then less than halfway through the error message pops up and the download stops. Not having my iPod updated is preventing me from re-downloading songs that did not apparently download the first time. These songs play in my iTunes on my computer, and even though I have synced my iPod a few times, the songs will not transfer.
Maybe if you told us what the error message says, we could help.

I tried updating recently but due to bad wi-fi connection, it failed.
Now, I try and update it and I get a message saying that you have already purchased this, but it had trouble downloading. It then says to connect it to computer and download it there, but I don't have a computer with me!
I just use my iPod, and I need this app update!Did you try to delete the app on your ipod and download a fresh copy again?
But deleting it on your ipod will also remove the data from this app!

My iPod Touch is te 4th generation with iOS 4 only... The desktop that it used to connect with was broken and I couldn't update my iPod touch as all content is linked to the iTunes on that broken PC. I purchased the most rent iOS download from iTunes to update my 1st gen iPod touch and after it was done downloading it started to restore my iPod with the update and now my iPod wont update and it keeps showing error 1604 and won't come out of recovery mode how do I fix it so I can update my iPod touch with this software. This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode,put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

My iTunes Library is on my computer, I have done a backup manually, and all of my music is on an external hard drive (as well as my iTunes library).Thanks a lot Recycle bin is empty, I will move some files from the C drive to an external hard drive, then do the update, and then move the files back. Any files you recommend not moving to the external hard drive at all?

I have been trying to update my IPod touch 4g to IOS 5, but I tunes does not recognize it and says it is up to date. When I Updated my other touch yesterday every thing worked great. but this one does not seem to want to go beyond 4.2.1(8C148)
Ok make sure you have iTunes 11. Then connect iPod touch to computer then iTunes should pop up automatically. After it opens on the bottom left there should be a tab where it says your name and then iPod. For example (Johns iPod) click on that then it brings all your information of the iPod including restore and updating.

I am having the same issue. I just had the battery replaced at a third party store. The battery powers the ipod up but it needs to be restored. It is saying it isn't eligible for rebuild. My iPod touch is not connecting to my iCloud account, under iCloud settings it has my old email account and username that I have since updated and are working correctly on my iPad, any idea how I can reset this on the iPod or otherwise? This old account info keeps coming back on my iPod and messing up access to my apple account and now the icloud. last time a system restore needed to be done to fix it....
It won't give me the option to sign out of the old account, it's that light grey color that you can't click on. And since it has the old email address that it's telling me to go into to verify the account, I can't actually change it... I'm stuck
