Should I update my laptop graphics card or is it possible?

Should I update my laptop graphics card or not? Is it possible to do so? Please help
My laptop model is HP Probook 4441s

You're very welcome.
Your notebook has switchable graphics...an Intel UMA graphics chip which uses shared system memory, and an AMD Radeon HD 7650M graphics chip, which uses discrete graphics memory.
The AMD GPU with its discrete graphics memory are still chips soldered and integrated on the motherboard.
That's what it means.  You assumed it was a removable card, and it is not.
There is no reference to a graphics card in your model on any of the official HP specifications for your notebook.

  • Updating laptop graphics card

I am looking into updating my laptop and probable the graphics card and wondered how much it would cost.  I have a HP G62 Notebook PC, with 3.00 GB RAM.  With graphics card Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family.  I am wanting to play World of Warcraft and it is not working smooth at all, what is a good solution to update and how much will it cost?

With that chipset, set your ground clutter to low, (and everything else, but especially that), but you should be able to bring your view distance up to medium.
That should give you smooth gameplay. Oh, and go into Windowed mode, on some systems that seems to help.
Plus: You may try going to MSCONFIG (Start, and type in MSCONFIG), going into the startup tab and disabling everything unneeded, just in case it's a background program issue.

  • Updating G5 Quad Graphics Card woes

    Hey everyone,
I have a PowerMac G5 (Quad) and the Graphics card is woefully inadequate (GeForce 6600).
I checked the Current Mac Pro specs and thought I could use the same graphics cards with my Quad - bought a Geforce 8800 GT - got home and ... OOPS!!
After putting the old card back, I checked out this message board and read a post titled "Graphics Updates" (probably just a few posts down from this one) where I found out that the Nvidia 8800GT and ATI X1900XT are incompatible with the PowerMacs, but the Nvidia 7800GT and ATI X1900GT should work.
Since there is no official Apple store in China yet, and I'd rather not make the same stupid mistake twice, can anyone tell me if there is a special "Mac Version" of these cards that I need, or can I just go and pick up one of them (Nvidia 7800GT or ATI X1900GT) up from a store and have no problems?
Just in case: do I need any power cord / adapter / other part for either of those cards to work?
    Thank you,
    Tim

Yes, there is a special Mac version of these (and any) card. The ROM on the card is different for the PC, as it needs to work with the PC's BIOS. A Mac card needs a different ROM to work with either Open Firmware (G5s) or EFI (Mac Pros). As you discovered, the Mac Pro cards work only Mac Pros, and you'd find the same to be true of the G5 cards, also due to the ROM differences.
You'll find it much easier to find the ATI X1900GT (aka G5 Edition). The 7800GT is generally only available as a replacement part, and as such, is very expensive. OWC has/had some in stock for a very reasonable price, but I have no idea if they can or will ship to China.

  • Can i upgrade my cq 42 227tu laptop graphic card

i have compaq presario cq 42 227tu notebook , and i want to install graphic card on my laptop . so its possible or not please reply with all technical specification.

Assume your version has intel intergrated graphics, no upgrade is possible to the motherboard.
Only option would be finding another better spec motherboard from HP/Compaq range that may fit your notebook chassis.
Balanced on cost & probably minimal gain a newer machine is best option really.

  • Can I upgrade my laptop Graphic Card

I have a HP DV6 B1N18EA, its has the nividia geforce 630m 2 gb detecated, I need a better graphic card to upgrade it. So can anyone please tell me if i can

    Hi,
Basically you can, with a cost and I believe this cost may be more expensive than buying a new computer because you have to take into account:
New card price,  and WHERE you can buy it because laptop cards are not the same as desktop cards. You can't buy from any normal shop,
Need new system board (may be),
Need new cooling system because generally speaking more powerfull card pumps out more heat (you want more powerfull card don't you?).
May need new PSU because your current PSU may not suitbale to the card. (I ordered a machine with Nvidia card and I needed to order a 90W charger at the same time, not the normal 65W charger. They simply rejected my order).
    Labor cost.
    Many, many packets of Asprin.
    Hope this helps.

  • Walmart HP Laptop Graphics Card Mixup

I recently purchased your Pavilion 17-e119wm from Walmart. on the Walmart website, under “details from manufacturer” It said the graphics card had 4GB of dedicated memory. I got the laptop a couple days ago, and today I discovered that under “system”, my computer said there was no dedicated graphics memory. I looked up the graphics card, and, sure enough, the graphics card had no dedicated graphics memory. A couple of weeks ago, I had ordered the pavilion 17z with some configuration, but then I found the Pavilion 17-e119wm (at Walmart), which, mainly because of the graphics card, looked like a better deal, so I canceled my previous order of the 17z. During the cancelation, I was offered 10% off if I kept the order, which I declined. Now that I found out about my graphics card, I was wondering if I could still get 10% off the 17z (and hopefully the hard drive upgrade too that was free when I bought the first laptop)
    Thanks,
    Nathan Hagan

    Hi,
Probably misreading some how. The following specs says it has "AMD Radeon HD 8650G graphics with up to 4206MB total graphics memory"
      http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=au&lc=en&docname=c04119881
No where in its specs saying it has dedicated memory. I believe you have to talk direcly with Walmart, this forum is for you and me. Some HP people are around but I don't think they speak as a company.
    Regards.

  • Update error with graphics card

Hi All, if anyone can help me fix this error I will be most aprreciative.
I get this error when I open After Effects.
Ray-tracing on the GPU requires an approved NVIDIA graphics card and CUDA 5.0 or later. For now, ray tracing will use the CPU.
After installing CUDA 5.0 or later, restart your computer.

I suggest you post on the Adobe forums since it's their software you're having problems with and this forum is for trouble shooting Apple Software Update app for Windows, which is not related to your question in any way.

  • Update Disaster. Graphics card problems.

    (yes, MORE problems!)
Ok I dont really think its a disaster but it sure fells like it.
My computer (G5 desktop OS 10.4.9, no intel) crashed and powed down during an update. Now nothing functions properly! I get this when it starts.
    Sysmquickmenu quit unexpectadly.
    and: archiveassistant quit unexpectadly.
AND: sh:line 1 command not found. Operation not permitted.
Also my itunes says its version 7.1.1 but the new features are not visable.
My graphics card seems to be glitching when i start up.
The screen color is very dark, i notice when i exit a Hi-Def game the color returns to normal. So when i start up i enter the game and then exit, to see properly.
By the way im using an Apple LCD Cinema Display

I also experienced problems with my graphics card after installing the latest update via the "software update" application. I have the standard GeForce FX 5200 installed in my Power Mac G5 Dual 2GHz. After the update, the available resolutions listed in my "display preferences" were changed. Several additional resolutions were added, most of which were "interlaced." I normally run my display, a Sony Multiscan crt, at 1024 x 768. This was now only available as a "interlaced" option, which would not display properly on my monitor. I downloaded the 10.4.9 Combo Updater directly from the Apple web site. Once I ran the combo updater, it removed the "interlaced" options and restored my normal choices. Everything is now running smoothly. If anyone is having graphics card issues, I would give the combo updater a try.

  • Can't Update Boot Camp Graphics Card Driver

    Greetings,
    I have an iMac (2011) running 10.7.2
I created a windows partition (windows 7 Ultimate edition) which has played Crysis II, Fallout New Vegas, etc.
I recently bought Battlefield 3 and, when I try to run it, it says that my Graphics Card Drivers are out of date. As a result, the game continuously crashes (despite the iMac easily being able to run the game).
What are my options for updating the drivers? I know that updates are usually in the form of software updates, directly from Apple.
Am I simply screwed until they decide to update their drivers?
A little clarification: I'm trying to install the "catalyst mobility 64-bit utility" for Windows 7 (64-Bit).
When I try to update my driver, through the AMD website it says
"AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer. Your computer does not contain a proper graphics adapter"
    Any ideas?

  • Laptop Graphics card

well it says i have a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter and i was wondering if i can upgrade the graphics card. because imy trying to play games i bought but it wont because of the card

    Hi:
If you are seeing a standard vga adapter, that means the graphics driver is not installed, which is why the graphics in your notebook isn't working up to par.
See if installing this graphics driver resolves the problem.

  • Updating Radeon Mobility Graphics Cards

As you will have probably found out ATI aren't very forthcoming with new mobility drivers. The good news is though that with a slight modification normal Catalyst drivers can be used follow this link for instructions:
    http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=134927
I am using the latest drivers myself using this info.

    Hi Carmel
    Thanks for this tip.
But note: The original Toshiba graphic drivers are modified because of graphic overheating issues. The ATI drivers are not designed for notebook usage. In his case the usage of no Toshiba graphic drivers can damage the graphic card.
You can use it but at your own RISK. If the graphic card will be damage so warranty will not cover the reparation.

  • MOVED: Laptop Graphics Card

This topic has been moved to GAMING Notebooks.

Most games will try to run even though you don't meet the requirements, but I would expect it to have extremely poor performance to the point of being possibly unplayable and not refundable.

  • Upgrading graphics card on a Lenovo 3000 N500 laptop

Is a 'BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ OC 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card' compatible with this laptop? If not, which type of card should I look for to be compatible? And how do I install it? Right now I have 2 'Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family' graphics cards installed.

Laptop graphics cards tend to be soldered on. Some have replaceable units which utilize a manufacturer proprietary port. Others have what's called a MXM slot which are somewhat interchangeable.
However, considering your laptop was manufactured with integrated graphics, it is highly unlikely that you will be to change/upgrade to a better graphics card.
I do believe that there will be a better solution in the future. Read about MXM 3.0 standard. It's quite promising.
