  • Should I upgrade to Yosemite or wait?

I'm ready to upgrade to Yosemite if it's ready for Prime time. Any comments?  Should everyone upgrade or wait for a few revision fixes?

    Heres my take.
    1. If your computer is running without problems currently > WAIT for 10.10.( 2 - 5 )
    2. If you are working on some major projects and need your computer > WAIT for 10.10.( 2 - 5 )
There appears to be way too many issues in the current version such as Mail, Compatibility, Wifi, Migration, Etc (if you read through the Apple Community Boards) to be making that leap in my opinion.  If you can wait it out and resist the temptation to do it (and lets face it, it really is like that candy bar you can't have), you might find yourself to be a happier person with a little less gray in your hair and aggrevation in your life.
IF have another computer to use, then do it.  LOL
Again my opinion.  Good luck in your final decision.

  • Have a T410 core i3, should I upgrade to T520 or wait for Ivy Bridge T530?

What should I do? My T410 is just over a year old and is still fast but I want an i7 for school and work and really need a high res 15" screen.  My T410 is nice and all but I'm starting to feel the lack of speed with my Core i3 first gen.
    Should I wait or not?

I may just go with a Gen 2 Intel SSD. I like there performance and prcing. It just takes money like everything else though.

Should I upgrade to Snow Leopard/ Lion using a MacBook Pro with 2.26 GHz Inetl Core 2 Duo Processor and 2GB Memory? Can my old macbook take it?
    thanks

Yes. You should be fine with Snow Leopard, but Lion requires a minimum of 2 GBs of RAM. If you upgrade to Lion I would first upgrade your RAM to at least 4 GBs if your model supports it. Also, see:
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
    E. If updating:
    Download and install update(s)
    Use Software Update, or
    Download standalone updater(s).

It is best to wait till there is a 10.9.1 update as new OS X systems always cause problems to some installations. Better not to risk losing data unless you have a bootable clone that enables you to revert to the original (pre upgrade) state. Haste makes waste.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 on macbook. can and should I upgrade to mavericks 10.9.2

I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 on macbook. can and should I upgrade to mavericks 10.9.2

    Can you:
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Should you upgrade is your decision. If you don't need the advanced features of Mavericks, then there is no reason to upgrade. If you don't use applications that require Mavericks to upgrade, then you don't need to upgrade.
Note that beyond Snow Leopard you won't be able to run PPC-only applications such as Office 2004.

  • Should I upgrade? Or Wait?

    Hello,
My ipad3 32gb was shipped today and I'm wondering if I should upgrade to iOS6 or wait awhile? Reading the many post of people having problems after upgrading have me thinking that I should wait awhile before I upgrade.

Well, your new toy may come with ios6 installed already.  But if it doesn't, try using it for a couple days before upgrading.  That's what I'd do.

  • Im planning to upgrade my MBP late 2011's ram from 4gb to 8gb. Is there any specific brand of ram that i should buy or i can buy any brand that suits my MBP.

im planning to upgrade my MBP late 2011's ram from 4gb to 8gb. Is there any specific brand of ram that i should buy or i can buy any brand that suits my MBP? im aware of all the details that i need to consider pc3 - 10600 1333MHz 4gb. i just want to know is there any specific brand or i can use any brand,
    Thank you.

The most reliable sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.  Macs seem to be selective with RAM so some brands will not work. Make certain that you get RAM with the exact specifications that apply to your MBP.
    Ciao.
If you have a need, be advised that you MBP can actually support 16 GB RAM.

  • Can I wait to upgrade?

My current 2 year plan is up at the end of the month.  I am a long time Verizon customer and have no problem with another 2 year plan.  I am ready to get a smart phone though and definitely want to get it as part of a new plan so I can get the discount.  In order to do this, do I need to get a new phone when my current plan runs out, or can I wait a few months?  I would really like to wait for the new iPhone, but that could be anywhere from now till October from what I have heard.  Can I just pay month to month now and then sign up for a new 2 year plan and get the discount whenever the new one comes out, or am I going to have to choose a new phone at the end of the month?

Since you don't have an unlimited 3G or 4G data plan you are trying to protect, you can wait as long as you want.  You will revert to month-to-month when your current 2 year contract expires.  The only difference may be the data plans offered now vs what they offer in a few months.  No one knows how they may differ or even if they will differ.  The only thing we know for sure is they are coming out with shared data plans for people who have multiple smartphones on the same account.

Could someone explain how to perform system upgrade on this phone.
    thank you

Hi, I have had the same problem. But, I follow this instructions and now I have Kitkat 4.4.2 with multilingual software and Google playstore works.

  • Should I upgraded to iTunes 7.0 and firmware 1.2 on my iPod?

Should I upgraded to iTunes 7.0 and firmware 1.2 on my iPod because it seems alot of people are having problems especially with the firmware on their iPods.

I am running a Mac and my iPod is experiencing the lock-up that others have reported here.
The update to iTunes 7 as well as to firmware 1.2 for iPod went smoothly and the iPod reboot as part of the firmware upgrade completed successfully. However, I then attempted to eject the iPod and found that the "Do Not Disconnect" screen was frozen on the iPod. I waited for a while but it was frozen - wasn't blinking.
I have reset the iPod numerous times only to find that it freezes shortly after the reset. I have been able to connect it to my MacBook right after a reset and it does seem to sync but I can't eject it successfully - always freezes while connected. Because of this consistent freezing I am unable to attempt a restore on the iPod.

  • Should i upgrade to Tiger?

i have a 1.25ghz eMac g4 w/ 512 RAM. ..should i upgrade from 10.3.9? or do you think it will be slow on this machine?

    Hi jonathan berry2;
First of all let me say that the upgrade from Panther to Tiger improved the performance on my old G4 so much I was able to delay the hardware upgrade until the PowerMac Quad came out six months later.
I don't generally recommend hold off on either operating system or hardware upgrades but in this case since Leopard is so close I would suggest waiting. If you wait you can see if your system can run Leopard which I suspect it will be able to then you can get Leopard. If not, you can get Tiger probably at a discount.

  • My iMac is still on OS X Lion.  Should I upgrade to any of the later versions given yosemite has lots of critics

I have always taken the view that if it ain't broke, don't fix it so i haven't upgraded my OSX for some time.  Is it about time i did?  Yosemite seems to have had several poor reviews so should i upgrade to one of the other version.  I have a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 8GB1067 MHz DDR3 memory. as you can tell iIam not a power user but do enjoy my mac, although I had noticed that Safari has crashed a lot recently.
    Many thanks for any views!

I've had no issues either with Yosemite on either Mac I upgraded. A Mid 2007 iMac, and a Mid 2011 Mac Mini.  Both work fine. And other than some cosmetic grievances and interface dislikes here and there, like Allan, I have not heard of any major device breaking issues with Yosemite
With that said if you are waiting for an Update that has no critics, and no reported bugs, you will be waiting for a very very long time.
Your computer should be able to run Yosemite perfectly fine. The likelihood of any issues is very very small.
