Should I upgrade or wait one more iteration?

Happy with your iPhone 5s?  I have the 4s and I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade or wait one more iteration.  My current model has 16GB and if I upgrade, I'd probably do the 32GB for $299 as I could use a little more memory for music and photos.
Thanks.

I enjoy mine. I have a 32GB 5s. I have had the iPhone, the iPhone 3g, 4, 4s and now the 5s.

  • Should I upgrade or wait it out?

I recently dropped my iPhone several times within the span of 2 months (first in a tub of soapy water, then twice from chairs).  of course now it has issues like it doesn't make a ringing noise (custom or otherwise) or texting noise.  Ipod function seems to still work though.  So, naturally I have pondered what to do.  Should I plunk down several hundred $ for a new phone (I just resigned with Verizon when I got the iPhone) or should I wait for the Iphone 5?  There's also the Iphone 4s but it sounds like that's not that much different than what I have.

You do know, I hope, that none of your older PPC apps, if you have any, will work in ML or in 10.9. But my guess is 10.9 will most likely be available from Snow, since you can get to the App Store from there. I doubt Apple will make ML a requirement; there are a lot of people still using Snow.
Besides that, 10.9 will be fresh out of the box and there may be bugs that will be needed to be worked out or around. I would never get the very first version of an OS. Maybe not even the second point update.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 and AVCHD - Should I upgrade or wait?

    Hi All
I currently use Premiere Pro 5.5.2 on a Mac Pro and OS 10.7.3. Most of my footage now is AVCHD, from various camcorders, including Sony FS100 as well as several Panasonic and Canon at 24P, 30P and 60P at 17mb/s to 28mp/s bitrates and LPCM and AVCHD audio. I also do use XDCAM EX and Canon DSLR H.264 footage.
I'm really wanting to upgrade to CS6, it looks fantastic, however I have heard reports of various bugs that make it work less efficiently or not at all with AVCHD footage. Maybe the latest upgrades fix these issues, but I'd like to get some input from people who have actually used CS6 with Mac OS 10.7 and AVCHD files. I don't want to transcode first, this was my primary reason to switch from FCP to Premiere Pro a couple of years ago, don't want to go back!
Thanks much for any and all advice you can give me.

The Adobe GodHead (CEO) sleeps very well at night. takes home a wonderful
salary. and takes many a vacation thanks to all of us suckers that buy into
    Adobe's buggy software.
A forum is a place to let it out not hold it in. This doesn't mean foul
language, but it does mean telling it like it is.
I've heard that the AVCHD fix is due 17 June of this year; only in the CC
    version.
This means that there will be a constant fire under your but to make that
monthly payment; if not. you're out; and if you had any files in the cloud,
you'll have to re-up to get em out. Ouch!
I went through all of this with Avid for a decade and in the end I was the
loser and the CEO was the winner.
Don't buy anything until you see it work.

  • Should I upgrade or wait? I purchased, but have not installed.

I purchased Lion, but have hesitated on installing it because of the problems I have heard about. Does anyone have an opinion?

To answer this, you should consider these questions...
How dependent are on your Mac?  If it has problems, does this affect your job and livelihood?  Can you afford to have to put some time into managing little problems?
If you have 4GBs of RAM or less, please read this thread - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3238726
Are there compelling reasons why you should rush to Lion?
How easy would it be to revert to Snow Leopard if things go wrong?  (Can you easily replace the system disk or restore an internal disk to its prior state?)
Do you have a good, safe backup procedure in place now in case of nasty happenings?
These questions will probably allow you to decide.
In my case, I have two Macs, an iMac used for my key, but not income-earning work, which is still on SL.  I don't want things to go wrong on this system.  And a MBP, which is now on Lion.  If it messes up, I know I can pop the Lion system disk out and put the SL system disk in.

  • Should I upgrade to Yosemite or wait?

I'm ready to upgrade to Yosemite if it's ready for Prime time. Any comments?  Should everyone upgrade or wait for a few revision fixes?

    Heres my take.
    1. If your computer is running without problems currently > WAIT for 10.10.( 2 - 5 )
    2. If you are working on some major projects and need your computer > WAIT for 10.10.( 2 - 5 )
There appears to be way too many issues in the current version such as Mail, Compatibility, Wifi, Migration, Etc (if you read through the Apple Community Boards) to be making that leap in my opinion.  If you can wait it out and resist the temptation to do it (and lets face it, it really is like that candy bar you can't have), you might find yourself to be a happier person with a little less gray in your hair and aggrevation in your life.
IF have another computer to use, then do it.  LOL
Again my opinion.  Good luck in your final decision.

  • Should I upgrade to Macericks now from 10.6.8 on my i-Mac(mid 2007, core 2 duo?). Will Mavericks be more secure than 10.6.8 ? 10.6.8 has been great, it runs great with all my apps but am concerned about future supportibility?

Should I upgrade to Mavericks now from 10.6.8 (i-Mac, mid 2007, core 2 duo)? Will Mavericks be more secure than 10.6.8 ?  I have the latest version of 10.6.8 and have upgraded my memory to 4GB. This could be one reason for me to make the move now.
10.6.8 has been great, it runs great with all my apps but am concerned about lack of support now. I know my PC apps will not work but maybe some apps that work now will "walk away" from 10.6.8 and then there's the security question of above.
I am also concerned about iPhoto 9 transition to i-Photo 11 and compatibility of my Time Machine WD Passport HD (format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled) based on several questions in applicable forums.
Thanks for your help in this important decision!

If I were you I would stick with Snow Leopard. It's much better suited to your old hardware. That said:
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

That is not how it works...
Macs can be very Fussy about RAM...
You can use these Links to check which RAM is suitable for your Mac...

Get as much RAM as your Mac can take. You will need it.

  • Why should I upgrade if it will cost $15 more per month?

I've got an iphone 4 with unlimited data, 450 min of talk, and a block of text messages for $75 per month plus tax. I never go over 450 min, usually use less than 300 MB of data, and send/receive less than 200 text messages per month.
When I look at the upgrade options to an iphone 5, the cheapest plan is $90 for 1GB of data and unlimited talk and text. Since I only have 1 phone, I would be paying $15 more per month and receive no useful benefits based on my use pattern.
Is that the best Verizon can do, or is there a better upgrade deal that would better fit my use pattern?

The 450 plan is definitely still offered, but that 250 text plan isn't pretty sure it's only 1000 text plan, as the previous person stated it's just a really old plan, so that may need to be changed, along with the unlimited data obviously, so you should be looking at $5.01 more a month.
The 250 text plan may not fall off, I have a 1500 text plan and when I upgraded it didn't need to be changed.

  • My iMessages don't work since updating. It says the Messages database is being upgraded, please wait while it finishes or Quit Messages and relaunch it later. How do I get them working again?

My iMessages don't work since updating. It says the Messages database is being upgraded, please wait while it finishes or Quit Messages and relaunch it later. How do I get them working again?

    Back up all data.
Quit Messages if it’s running. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it and test after each of the following steps. If the problem isn't resolved, quit again and go on to the next step.
    Step 1
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
    If the box marked
              Keep login keychain unlocked
    is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain.
From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select My Certificates. Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them is marked with a red "X" as expired or invalid, delete it. Also delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name, whether valid or not.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ Certificates
There are three menus in the window. Change the selection in the top two to Best attempt, and in the bottom one to  CRL.
Log out and log back in.
    Step 2
Hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (some may not exist):
              Containers/com.apple.corerecents.recentsd
              Caches/com.apple.Messages
              Caches/com.apple.imfoundation.IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent
              Containers/com.apple.iChat
              Containers/com.apple.soagent
              IdentityServices
Leave the Library folder open. Log out and log back in.
    Step 3
Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
              Messages
Note: you are not moving the Messages application. You’re moving a folder named “Messages.”
If Messages now works, delete the Messages folder on the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Messages again. Put back the folder you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place.
    Step 4
In the Preferences subfolder, there may be several files having names that begin with any of the following strings:
              com.apple.iChat
              com.apple.ids
              com.apple.imdsmsrecordstore
              com.apple.imessage
              com.apple.imservice
Move them all to the Desktop. There may also be a file with the name "com.apple.imagent.plist". Move that to the Trash.
Also in the Preferences folder, there's a subfolder named "ByHost". Open it and do the same thing.
Log out and log back in. Test again. This time Messages should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. You may be able to put back some of the files you moved to the Desktop in this step. Relaunch and test after each one. Eventually you should find one or more that causes Messages to malfunction. Delete those files and recreate whatever settings they contained.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Messages again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash. Stop here and post your results.
If you later decide that you don’t like the results of Steps 3 and 4, you can undo them completely by quitting Messages and restoring the items you deleted in those steps from your backup.

  • Should I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion?

This is my first Mac.I purchased it (in May 2010 with Snow Leopard installed) primarily to avoid the hassles worrying about malware on a PC. I love it and everything Mac. What are the major drawbacks to not upgrading to the newest OS (which is now apparently called Lion)? I don't have any plan for the future other than buying a desktop to replace this notebook someday since I understand that notebooks may be replaced by iPads or similar models and I want a large size display. Is best to simply not fix something that isn't broken? Thanks very much for any thoughts.

    Some thoughts
Lion is very different, so if you just got used to Snow Leopard get ready for some changes. Lion annoyed a lot of Mac purists because it is so different. A lot of features have become, and are becoming, more "iOS-like". Some people think this amounts to "dumbing down" the OS and I can't say I disagree. However, I've been using Macs since the original one in 1984 and personally, I like Lion and consider it an overall improvement. A lot of people have difficulty letting go of the past, but when you use Macs as long as I have, you get used to it!
Since you have only been using a Mac since 2010 it is unlikely you have any PowerPC (PPC) programs but you should be aware they will no longer run in Lion. Most Mac programs written since the switch to Intel processors in 2006 will work without a problem.
You will want a Magic Trackpad or at least a Magic Mouse to take advantage of Lion's many new gestures. I can't imagine using a scrollwheel mouse ever again, but some people prefer them even with Lion. A mouse certainly enables finer control over the cursor so if you're manipulating little elements a lot you may prefer it. I suppose it's a question of personal choice and what you do with the computer. I keep a Magic Mouse right next to my Magic Trackpad so I can use either one - they are both active simultaneously so I can just reach over and use one or the other.
Every new Mac OS release (major releases, not point releases) places greater demands on your hardware. Your MacBook Pro has an i7 CPU, a major improvement over the Core 2 Duo. If you still have the basic 4 GB memory that's certainly adequate, but more would be more comfortable. Lion will run in as little as 2 GB but just barely. Your MacBook pro is going to last a long time so why not just get the maximum memory right now. (I'm typing this on my Powerbook G4, it's ten years old).
Before buying and installing Lion, get an external backup hard disk and use Time Machine to back up your current system. Once you install Lion there is no undoing it, so archive your system the way it is in case you change your mind. Also, you can boot your computer from the backup volume and run Snow Leopard any time you want to. It's a good idea to have a backup anyway. External disk drives are not terribly expensive (less then $100 if you shop around). I have Snow Leopard on an external drive but I haven't needed it since upgrading to Lion.
It's only $30, so what are you waiting for?
One more thing - Apple is not going to abandon notebooks in favor of iPads any time soon. Their laptop segment has enjoyed explosive growth and it has been very profitable. I imagine they are only going to increase their presence in that market. The iPad is extremely capable and complements a traditional computer very well, but it's not quite a replacement for one.

  • CUPS: Printer always waits for more data, and finally times out.

I apologise if this should be categorised as" system administration" rather than "installation". The reason why I chose this category was that the error happened right after installing and setting up cups, so it should not have to do with fine-tuning or be the result of a particularly specific situation.
I have had a novel kind of problem with printing since I first installed Arch Linux:
Whenever I print - regardless of application -, my OKI 431 printer will always wait for more data after having completed the print job (as shown in its small display, where it keeps saying 'DATA' even after the last printed page has come out). After 25 to 30 seconds of such waiting, it will print out two pages, the first one empty, the second one saying:
    ERROR:
    timeout
    OFFENDING COMMAND:
    timeout
    STACK:
The printer display then goes back to saying 'ONLINE'. If I print several documents WITHIN this 25 to 30 sec delay, i.e. in fast succession, I only get the two pages once, i.e. after the last of these jobs has been printed.
What seems to be related to that is the status message on the "Printers" page of CUPS' Web interface: It says
Idle - "Sending data to printer."
all the time, even though I am not printing anything. (And this was the same before the update.)
Printing is otherwise completely fine - the one practical problem is I have an ever-growing pile of empty pages mixed with pages containing the above error message next to my printer, i.e. two extra pages after each printout. (The one workaround I have found so far is quickly switching off the printer after within the 25 - 30 secs time window.) I have tried to google this problem with various search term combinations, but have not been able to find pages specific to this problem anywhere.
What I have tried out was wiping the /etc/cups directory, updating cups, adding the printer again using lpadmin, and setting it as the default printer with lpoptions (both as explained in the Arch Wiki page). This has not changed anything relevant about the behaviour.
(The one effect this has had is that pointing some browsers (Opera, Dillo) to localhost:631 now gets a "Bad request" response from CUPS, but on most browsers (Mozilla, Qupzilla, Midori, Google Chrome, Lynx) it gets the normal Web interface. But this is probably not related to the problem.)
I will try to give some basic context:

  • Should I upgrade the hardware or replace the laptop?

I have a late 2006 model Macbook that I received in Decemeber 2006. I'm interested in purchasing a new Macbook, but am also wondering whether I should instead upgrade the hardware? The Macbook seems to always be pushing itself harder than it should as the fan is always audible and always has been, so much so that when I use Skype the person on the other line can't hear me very well because of it. It heats up like crazy too at every use. Sometimes it runs so slowly that it can take 45 minutes to even just close some tabs and windows down as it has to think about it first (spinning beachball). I'm in Uni at the moment and have been for a while now and would love for my laptop to run like it used to when I first got it, or even be able to update it's software (but even that's not possible because it's hardware isn't compatible). I've transferred a lot of my data onto an external harddrive to free up some space and help it run better, but it's still pretty slow in comparison to today's computers.
    Any ideas?

i would suggest going for a new Macbook or a refurbished one from Apple.
normally, i would suggest upgrading the RAM and swap the hard drive for a SSD.  unfortunately, that might not even work for you.
once you upgrade your apps to the current version, they tend to be more memory and processor intensive.
so upgrading your macbook might be a waste of money.
again, those are my thoughts and you can either go with it or ignore it.....
If you own a late 08 Macbook Uni like I do, then I would suggest to upgrade the RAM and go with a SSD to give it a couple of years more but because you have a 2006, buying a new one would be a better option especially if you want to install Mountain Lion.
    good luck..

  • HT1338 I have an older macbook pro running OSX 10.6.8. Should I upgrade the OS?

    SHOULD I UPGRADE FROM 10.6.8?

10.7 or above will not run your PPC based programs, so that's a cost.
10.7 or above will need 4GB or more RAM, so that's a cost.
10.7 or above is slower than 10.6, so that's a cost in performance
If your machine is out of AppleCare, then if 10.7/10.8 hoses your machine somehow (like it did mine), then your screwed and have to buy a new one.
If the machine originally came with 10.4 or 10.5, then you certainly don't want to upgrade past 10.6.8 and slow it down, just run it until the wheels fall off.
I only advise Early 2011 machines and later to upgrade to 10.8, then only under AppleCare.
Apple is issuing security updates for 10.6, installed anti-virus, and it has about 30% version market share, so your safe for now.

  • Adding one more selection field in the standard data source

    Hi SAP Gurus,
I'd like to know how to add one field as a selection field for the data source.I used 0FI_GL_4 Datasource .It has 2 selection. Now I want to add one more field as a selection field .How to mark that field as selection?I tried by using RSA6 ,But I'm unable to change the previous selection.
Please let me know how to fix it?
    I'll assign the points ...
    Thanks & regards
    Raja

    Pradip,
when ever you create any Generic DS, you can find generic DS(I checked this), comming append fields(it's happend to me)... there is no meaning.. as we know... we will extract the data for append fields using existing DS.
    Comming Raju:
to my knowledge, you should not add that field as selection enabled(wait for others posts). I had seen many posts for working on this... by updating the Table ROOSFIELD table for the respective DS. I never implemented this... if you update this using any custom program be careful. Ihave ccreated the program for append fields not for Standard Extractor.
Try to search any SAP Notes: 571985
    All the best.

  • Should I upgrade to 3GHz or upgrade to X1900 XT instead

Should I upgrade to 3GHz or upgrade to X1900 XT instead??
Which of these would give me more bang for the money I spent? Would the better graphics card help me when Leopard is here? or is the extra CPU better?
    Your opinions are needed!
    Thanks

I think it's exactly 10%. Everything in the system
runs as a multiple of 133Mhz. The 3Ghz CPUs aren't
    really 3Ghz but 2.93Ghz (i.e. 22*133Mhz versus
    20*133Mhz for the 2.66Ghz CPUs).
    This is not true.
Intel's information on their Website states that they are indeed 3 GHZ, actually using an 8x multiplier:
The FSB is actuallty 333MHz FSB is quad pumped (for 1333 MHz total per chip), not 133 MHz.
Therefore the actual speed of the chip is 2.997 GHz (effectively 3GHz) using a 9X multiplier.
The 2.66 is an 8 multiplier (2.664 GHz).
You may be confusing the Xeon 5100 series with it's 1333 MHz bus with the Core 2 Duo chip. They are actually the same chip with two important exceptions:
    1) The Xeon 5100 series allows for multiple processors (e.g. 2 dual core chips)... Core 2 Duo only allows for one chip.
    2) The Xeon 5100 series has a choice of 1066 or 1333 MHz FSB (1333 only in the 2.66 and 3.0 models), whereas the Core 2 Duo chips are only up to a 1066 MHz FSB for now (266 MHz quad pumped).
Thus the top line Core 2 Extreme only runs at 2.93 GHz, which on that chip is an 11X multiplier.
The extra FSB speed of the 5100 gives a slight bandwidth and speed increase over the Core 2 all other things being equal.
