Should I use a cover to protect my MBP?

I read lots of reviews on the Speck clear and satin covers.  The hardshell satin cover seems to have better reviews on Amazon.  I am concerned about heat issues with the fan being covered.  If you are using an attached hardshell cover, please let me know your experience and suggestions.  Thanks!

I love the Speck covers but I've been through three of them in eight months.  They look great but have some weak points (where it is cut out for the power connector and for the DVD slot for example) where they always seem to start cracking/splitting on me.
The first one I bought literally had the entire back left corner just break away in on large piece.
Just something to be aware of. Maybe I'm unlucky.
Having said that I love them and I'd prefer the Speck cover breaks as opposed to my MPB getting dinged/scratched.

  • Should I use Speck hard cover?

    I have a question regarding the Speck hard cover for MacBook air, because I heard people saying it is really good and heard people saying it heats the computer up, so it is not good. Is that true?

    Considerations for the long life of your Macbook Air. Handling and environmental care tips
    Dropping it is a personal issue.     Just use a soft case, take it out when needed, then put it right back in.
    Other options are personal insurance for loss / theft / accidents.
    investigate a TYPE of insurance, called Inland Marine Insurance, very cheap.

    See my Mac Malware Guide.
    This issue is more complex than some of the responses you have gotten are indicating. You definitely should avoid Norton, but there actually IS malware out there, and all anti-virus software is NOT "snake oil." Don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise, as they don't know what they're talking about.
    Although you should be able to do without anti-virus software just fine, there are some perfectly good reasons to install it and some good anti-virus apps to use if you decide to do so. Further, even if you do avoid anti-virus software, you need to understand what the threats are so you don't end up thinking you're totally safe and do something you shouldn't.

  • How should I protect my MBP?

    I am thinking of getting a Speck SeeThru Transparent hardshell case because I want to protect my MB from scractes and at the same time, I can still see the aluminium skin of my MB.
    But I have read a lot of reviews that it is just better to use a sleeve case for MB since the speck hardshell case add on weight and makes it more bulky.
    So if I were to buy a sleeve case for my MB, does a protector film on the macbook cover is even neccessary?
    And should I get a trackpad protector film?

  • How do I use the Verizon Service & Protection app to locate my phone if it gets lost?

    The Verizon Support & Protection app (VZ Protect) is installed on my phone and is supposed to help me if my phone is lost or stolen by allowing me to find it on a map, lock it, erase my data from it, etc.  But I found it nearly impossible to figure out what I should do in the event that actually did get lost or stolen.
    I logged into my My Verizon account from my computer (which is probably what I would do if I lost my phone), but unfortunately there isn't anything on the site to help a person who has actually lost their phone or had it stolen to quickly and easily locate it.  Most of the links I found were only promoting Verizon's services and the app, but nothing on how to use it.
    I tried searching for things I might type if I had actually lost my phone (like, "missing phone", "stolen phone", "find lost phone").  I had to go into the "How to Use Guide: Verizon Support & Protection" page, which I was only able to find on the  Verizon Support & Protection FAQs  page), in order to find a link that told me I had to go to the Verizon Support & Protection App website  to use this service.
    There really should be something more obvious right on the My Verizon site.

    Purchase a replacement remote.
    The remote is required for configuring the ATV and setting up the remote app on iDevices.

  • New 17" MBP, any ideas on a nice easy-to-use bag that will protect the MPB

    Does anybody know if the new magic mouse and the wireless keyboard work and work well with the latest editions of MBPs?
    I guess I will ask while I am here. I need a nice bag to protect the MBP since there will e days I can use the 13' and days I will have to haul the 17" MPB for architecture/city planning grad school.
    I would like to get a sweet sounding mini speaker system for the MBP, anybody have some top-of-the line speakers that are easy to put away and take out that give a superb sound on the latest MP 17".
    What is the official term I should use for the latest edition of the MPB 17" SL, separate dedicated graphics card? I think I need this for the Program I am in, but I am not sure if I need them to be dedicated.
    thank you tons.

    I did not have any luck with the Mighty Mouse. It was a pain to me and I was hoping the new one worked better. I did think of your question about the magic mouse but why a wireless keyboard? They have 2, one I would not gt and one I dream of being able to it back and just do some work in a comfortable position on the couch with my gf rubbing my feet. I think having a wireless keyboard would b ideal with a 17" MBP. the touch pad would be ideal at times too. I am not saying "always" just like last night I was sitting forward in this chair and my back hurt so bad. I thought; "if I had that one wireless keyboard, I could sit back, look at the big 17" display." But if I am sitting back I would need the mouse. that mouse seems like it rocks. You control it by your hand gestures and fingers, what more could you want?
    what did you like abut the Mighty Mouse? Did your even work, right? What notebook do you have? Now if I had that I would not be able to have the wireless keyboard, you are right there. You need a surface for that dinky thing. I gave it to my nephew and he uses it as a car and he has so much fun with it.
    I do hope they come out with a wireless keyboard with the glass touch pad. Yes you are right, I do look forward to using that since I am still using Tiger.
    do you have the bag you suggested? Did you look at the ones Rod suggested? Two complete opposite ens of the spectrum.

  • What component Should I use?, Jpanel doesn't work

    I need a program that has a window that can go fullscreen and windowed (I did that with a Jframe in fullscreen mode with a jpnale and a 800x600 Jpanel and destroying them with an object that maneges them), I did it with a jframe that contained a Jpanel, I used a Jpanel to avoid the flickering on the screen but I also need to change the font type and the font size, but the setFont on the Jpanel doesn't change the font (as I have realized and also read here [] ), so I'm lost, I might have to redo the whole thing, but I just wanted to know what component should I use for a window that is going to have custom graphics and need diffrent fonts and diffrent font sizes and work in fullscreen without flickering

  • Should I use "Windows Forms Application" or "WPF Application" or ..... ?

    Hi everybody!
    I want to become a master programmer.
    I want to programming "Windows Desktop"
    I am using Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 by language C# on  Windows 8 OS
    I am confusing because Should I use "Windows Forms Application" or "WPF Application" or .....?
    which one is better?
    Help me!!!!!!!! Please!!!!!
    Thanks a lot!
    if possible, please send me "step by step exercises about the WPF Application to email: [email protected]
    thanks again

    Although I don't have much experience with WPF, only Windows Forms, this blog post might shed some light on which decision you should make:
    If you are looking to just add a quick and dirty UI on top of a small script or executable tool, Windows Forms would be the answer, as it is very easy to learn and use. However, since you have the best tools currently available, and you say you want to do
    it the right way, I would say learn WPF now. You will benefit from it later on.

  • Need experts opinion... Should I use smcFanControl?

    I've recently purchased a MacBook Pro 13" with an i7 processor and 8GB of RAM and have been watching flash player videos on the internet and playing pretty basic games that use programs such as Java and have experienced temps topping at 101 degrees Celsius. I'm not an expert with laptops, but I have done a TON and I mean HOURS of reading online for the past several days and have read posts where people have encouraged the use of smcFanControl when needed and read the opposite side where people say to not mess with it and trust in Apple's engineering. From my basic understanding, it seems like more acceptable temperatures should be around 80-90 degrees Celsius for these tasks. Am I correct in this thinking to protect my laptop? This is my 1st laptop and I want to make sure I can make it last as long as possible, so what's the truth? Should I use smcFanControl just when I plan to play games or watch flash player videos? If you've used smcFanControl for years, please speak up along with anyone else who knows a lot on this issue. Thanks!!

    hi ,
    here is my question xml will have
    <somefiled="X" type=int value=35 />
    <somefiled="Y" type=String value=50 />
    Now first i have to parse this xml ..then my java program is going to accept value from user ..and depending on user specified value i've to use either ATO or FIX fields...e.g if user value is 35 then my program should use fields within ATO node.
    You will read the XML structure into some kind of memory model. When the user supplies a value you will search for a matching value (likely from a collection such as a map or list) and return the value in that object that you locate.
    what should be done for this ..
    See above.
    and what if i change values in my xml file..will i have to restart my application to load xml again ?
    If you change the file on the filesystem, you should simply be able to re-parse the XML file and update your in-memory model. If you instead update your in memory-model, you can serialize the model back to XML on the filesystem. Neither needs to necessarily have anything to do with application start-up (other than the fact that you would normally read in the XML model then, but updating is a separate concern, as would re-reading it).

  • Should I use screen lock with find my iPad.

    Im using a wifi only iPad, so if it is lost or stolen the finder or thief will need to be able to access my iPad and connect to a wifi signal before I can track it. I therefore think I should not use keypad lock so that I can allow them

    You don't have to use one, it's personal preference as to whether you use one or not - I use one on my iPad Mini as I prefer the feel of them compared to the glass screen, other people don't like or use them as they prefer the glass (and some screen protectors can affect the clarity of the screen). Depending upon where you will be using the iPad (e.g. if it's dusty or dirty) you may want one to give the screen a bit of extra protection.

    Hey, I am having trouble figuring out if I should be using

    I would say that if you don't know the answer to that
    question, then the
    answer is probably no. You need to have a pretty firm
    understanding of how
    sites like that work under the hood before trying to build
    one in Flex.

  • Should I use BCS my backend database will update all the record of the sql table daily.

    Should I use the BCS where the database table is going to be updated daily.
    All the records will be updated on daily basis.
    Why should I use BCS when I can connect to the sql server directly and  update the records that I need.
    What additional benefits can I get from BCS , I do not need the search functionality.

    According to description, my understanding is that you want to know if you need to use Business Connectivity Services to connect external SQL table.
    Business Connectivity Services is a centralized infrastructure in SharePoint 2013 and Office 2013 that supports integrated data solutions.
    Business Connectivity Service will provide a familiar user interface to manage sql table data. It is more security for reading and writing data to external sql table.

  • Which one is the better cover for protection on tje ipad mini with retina

    I  bougth an mini ipad with retina, my 5 years old will use using too. Which one is the better cover for protection?

    You'll have to think in terms of a shell rather than just a cover. Main problems are dropping and liquid getting inside. Plus a shell can add a bit of extra heft and "grippability", aiding little hands in holding on the slippery aluminum back. Can add some sort of screen protector to prevent scratches, though that will reduce sensitivity to an extent; however, a direct blow will inevitably shatter the Gorilla Glass.
    That being said, I am very happy with the Lifeproof Nüüd case that has protected mine from the get-go. Decided to forego screen protectors in lieu of better touch performance; almost 2 years down the road the screen is still scratch free.

  • When should a subclass have its own fields and when should it use its super

    When should a subclass have its own fields and when should it use its superclass' fields?
    Hi, thank you for reading this post!
    Let me use a specific example to ask my question.
    public class BankAccount {
         private double accountBalance;
         public double getBalance() {
              return this.accountBalance;
    public class SavingsAccount extends BankAccount {
         private double accountBalance;
         public double getBalance() {
              return this.accountBalance;
    }In the bank account example, both BankAccount and SavingsAccount will have a method getBalance(). Therefore, they
    both require a account balance field. My question is since getBalance() for both classes will perform the exact same
    operation, when should I omit declaring the getBalance() method and the accountBalance field in the subclass, and
    when should I include them?
    My own thought is when we never have to instantiate a superclass object (e.g. an abstract class), then we place
    common fields in the abstract superclass and have subclasses access these fields via protected getter/setters to
    access the superclass' fields. This is the principle of reuse.
    But when you do need to instantiate a superclass and the superclass does need to maintain its own fields, then
    I would need to duplicate the accountBalance field and getBalance() method in the subclass.
    Is my thinking correct or incorrect?
    Thank you in advance for your help!

    If SavingsAccount inherit BankAccount.getBalance()...getBalance() would return BankAccount's accountBalance. This is NOT the correct result we want.Actually, I think it's precisely what you want.
    We want getBalance() to return BankAccount's accountBalance when we use a BankAccount object, and SavingsAccount's accountBalance when we use a SavingsAccount object.I seriously doubt that. I think you're confusing a BankAccount with a Customer, who can have more than one account.
    In every system I've ever seen, a SavingsAccount IS-A BankAccount - that is to say, it's a genuine subtype. Now, it may well contain other fields ('interest'?) that a normal account wouldn't, but 'balance' ain't one of them.
