Should I use google chrome on my macbook pro?

Firstly what exactly is google chrome and is it better than safari?
If so is it just as safe and fast as safari?

With the possible exception of IE (which you don't have to worry about), any browser is as safe as the person using it. Since you're the same person, the browsers are going to be pretty equal from a security standpoint.
As for performance, the are both based on the same WebKit core, so the differences are likely to be in memory utilization and JavaScript execution.
Tom's Hardware recently ran an extensive browser comparison where Safari was crowned the Mac winner, but personal preference plays a part, too. Personally I use Safari for 99% of what I do.

You do not need any software installed for protection from virus.
Install all System, Applications and Security updates released by Apple.

  • Can Google Chrome cause 2012 Macbook Pros to restart themselves

I just recently bought a 15 inch 2012 macbook pro. I installed Google Chrome, and my computer began restarting itself from time to time. A black pop-up appears, saying that my computer needs to restart, in multiple languages. Is Google Chrome the cause of this?

Google Chrome can cause untold problems on the 2012 MBP's. I'd suggest either ditching Chrome or using Chrome Canary -  https://tools.google.com/dlpage/chromesxs/ - some have reported good luck using Canary.

  • Should i use my Firewall on my macbook pro

I have a macbook pro i use it mostly at home and sometimes at a public university when im at home it is on my home wifi that is password protected do i need to use it?

And no reason to have it on either. It is not about traffic over your network. It is about other devices connecting to your Mac.
    Whatever.
I know what it's about.  Unless the user has a need for specific access into their device from other devices, there's no need for it.  Almost 98% of the time, normal users won't need this access.  When they do, the sharing setup they enable in System Preferences will open the necessary ports as needed.  Most of the time, users don't need anything outside of the already simplified functions out of OSX to make things work.  For instance, file sharing they'll probably do with AirDrop between them and another Mac... it's what they found to be easier.  Other times like iTunes wireless sync, again, it'll still work with the Firewall On without issues.  The firewall in OSX is an intelligent one similar to the one in Windows and doesn't require a lot of manual management and rule creation.  It's pretty dynamic in the sense that it'll build its own rules as needed for inbound triggered traffic and as you should know, all outbound request traffic requiring return data has already tunneled out the firewall with the request packets, so there's no need for a rule to be added to allow the return traffic back in.

  • Macbook pro making buzzing noises when using google chrome

I have had a Macbook Pro for at least 3 years. I have always used Google Chrome(in fact as I am writing this it began making this noise while using Safari) to use Google Drive to work on my homework to do other things as well since I find it easiest to use for school. Recently my computer has started making a very loud buzzing noise near the fan areas when I use Google Chrome and it worries me. It had that problem before, but when I took it in before I thought the problem had been fixed. Now 2 years later it is making that noise again and it only goes away when I put my computer to sleep. I am unsure as to what to do about it and it worries me because it is getting to the point where I can't even use my computer to work on it.
Please help or give some advice on what to do.

Open the bottom and use a can of compressed air and clean out your fan for dust and possible plastics stuck near fan blade. It will help and if needed replace fan           https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mu6tKVqdgGI

    Hi doctor.saddam,
If your MacBook Pro is shutting down unexpectedly, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • Can't use my Comcast/Xfinity email on mozilla any more have to use google chrome to access it. I can log on through comcast/xfinity homepage but it will not let me read my email, just keeps redirecting me to inbox preview. Can this be corrected?

Can't use my Comcast/Xfinity email on mozilla any more have to use google chrome to access it. I can log on through comcast/xfinity homepage but it will not let me read my email, just keeps redirecting me to inbox preview. I used to have no problem before firefox 7. Can this be corrected? Or should I discontinue using Firefox?

Thank you! Thank You! Thank You!!! I have been arguing with Comcast for 6 months on this. They told me to uninstall and reinstall Firefox. Then I found this website and there was my solution. It worked. It was annoying that they told me to use internet explorer. The worst part is I pay them monthly. Well, as soon as my contract is up, I am done with Comcast. They still haven't figured out why my favorite stations aren't coming in. Funny thing is my roommate has Direct t.v. with no problems. At half the price. See ya Comcast. I am done paying for shabby over priced service. Thank you Firefox. I can't believe I pay for crappy service and this is free.

  • Multiple daily updates are a nuisance: thinking of using Google Chrome, now.

I am receiving multiple daily updates for Firefox Browser. This is becoming a nuisance. Can there be one daily update? Frankly, I am considering using Google Chrome now.

    Hi PAPPASAN44,
It looks like you are running 9.0.1 which is the latest version of Firefox. It came out a few days ago and there have been no updates since then. What makes you think that it is updating daily?
If you are seeing a message on [http://www.google.com/firefox/ this page] that you are out of date, you should take a look at [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/905310 the response from cor-el in this thread]. The page is just incorrect.
If you see the "Welcome to Firefox" or "Just updated Firefox" page every time you log in, you should look at [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+has+just+updated+tab+shows+each+time+you+start+Firefox this article about that specific issue] and the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved]. These should give you all the information you need!
    If that doesn't work:
    # Type about:config in the address bar
    # Click ''I'll be careful, I promise'' if prompted
    # In the Filter input field type ''startup''
    # Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
    # Delete the text string and click ''OK''
    # Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • I have windows 7 and use google chrome and I can't download iTunes.  It just says it cannot be verified and won't let it run.

I am unable to download iTunes to my computer.  It uses a genuine edition of Windows 7 and I use Google Chrome but once it has downloaded and I click to run it comes up with 'package cannot be verified'.  I also tried to download through Internet Explorer but I got the same result.  Thank you for any help.

  • Unable to use interective photo galleries (i.e. New York Times' before/after Japan tsunami damages, and others, also in NYT website) Had to use Google Chrome, even though not my default browser.

On 03/13/2011, I could not use an interactive photo gallery in the New York Times website. I had a slide on each picture which showed the before and after the tsunami damage, in Japan.
I had to use Google Chrome, though Firefox is my default browser.
I had the same problem with the photo gallery of dresses during and after the Oscar event.

That site relies upon JavaScript to use the before and after feature. Make sure JavaScript is enabled, to do that open the Options window, go to the Content panel and make sure "Enable JavaScript" is selected.
If you have an add-on such as NoScript that blocks JavaScript, you need to set it to allow scripts to run on that site.

  • Can i use microsoft office on my macbook pro and from where should i download it?

can i use microsoft office on my macbook pro and from where should i download it?

I don't use Office myself so can't really offer advice. I don't recall seeing your issue before. Maybe someone who uses Office will be able to help.
As this thread is marked as solved it won't get the attention your query warrants. It would be a good idea to start your own thread discussing the problem - I'm sure someone here will offer the right advice/help.
Make sure you note what Mac your have and what version of OS X you are running.
