Should I use Mozilla Fire Fox?

I recently got an iMac. I was wondering if I should go and download Mozilla Fire Fox or stick with Safari. Thanks!

Unfortunately, many web developers use a specific browser to "check" their coding. All this tells them is their code works with that particular browser -- and in the case of IE, that's not saying much. What they should be doing instead is coding to accepted standards (like w3.org) to ensure their code is generally compliant. So the bottom line is that no browser (on any operating system) can handle all of the poorly coded sites out there, and it's not really the fault of the browser.
So what's a user to do? Keep an updated backup browser (or two) installed. I love Safari, and that's my primary browser. But when there's a problem, I launch Opera or Camino.
Another tip is to make sure you have up-to-date versions of common plugins. Two essentials are Flash and flip4mac.

  • Use Mozilla Fire Fox

    I don't know if having the IE version 7 is the reason for the
    conflict. However, until Adobe fixes what ever the problem is, go
    to
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
    Download that browser for now... Good luck. It helped me
    out!

    > Does anyone have a non-biased opinion on switching from
    IE7 to Firefox?
    I don't know if there is such a thing.
    There are a lot of people who hate MS (perhaps justifiably),
    and so the very
    fact that IE is made by MS is a compelling reason not to use
    it.
    Many people have also believe many of the myths and
    half-truths about
    Firefox without question.
    Some people have genuinely valid functional reasons for
    switching to Firefox
    (rather then just anti-Ms reasons).
    Some people simply prefer it.
    Basically, use whatever browser you like and that works for
    you.
    Regarding problems with IE, one does need to realise the IE
    is still by far
    the most commonly used browser. It really isn't that bad, but
    is also far
    from perfect. However, because so many people use it, there
    is a greater
    change that any problems with using it with other software
    and other web
    sites will be address with greater urgency that (say) if a
    site or peice of
    software didn't work right with Opera or some other minority
    brwoser. There
    can be safety in numbers.
    Many of the problems with installation are related to the
    Flash Player used
    in IE using ActiveX controls, and there are some (rare)
    problems with
    installing in under windows. So the problem is not so much
    IE, but Windows
    itself. Of course, if that is the problem you are having,
    using Firefox
    will avoid the problem because Firefox has its own pluig-in
    method.
    However, that doesn't mean Firefox is free of problems
    either. Considering
    the proportion of people who use Firefox vs IE, and the
    proportion of people
    with problems with those browsers .. it seems to me to be
    pretty much in
    proportion.
    It might be worth looking also at Opera. I don't seem many
    reports of
    problems with it .. but then VERY few people use it.
    BTW: I'm sure you can find lots of things said about firefox,
    about it being
    standard compliant etc ... much of that is not completely
    true. To help you
    sort out the facts from the myth, here is a web site to read:
    http://www.firefoxmyths.com/
    ... and make sure you don't take everything
    there on face value either :):)

  • Can NOT get mozilla fire fox browser to close

    I am changing over to Google Chrome and I went into my control Panel to delete Mozilla Fire Fox Browser and it Says that I must close the browser first. I HAVE IT CLOSED . I am trying to change browsers because My Adobe Flash Player CRASHED and I can NOT update the new plug-in because it gets 50% loaded and it stops and asks me to close Mozilla Fire Fox first . BUT the browser is NOT even OPEN... I am Logged into Google Chrome trying to update my Adobe Flash Player and IT SAYS please close Mozilla Fire FOX .. So I went into CONTROL PANEL and I can NOT even remove the browser!!!! Someone please HELP...How is it That this browser is running YET i do NOT even have it OPEN??????

    Well, I can try to do one of several things here:
    1. Help you fix Firefox and update your adobe flash.
    or
    2. Help you uninstall Firefox.
    Let's do #1 first.
    * Open the task manager (it appears you are actually using Windows XP?). Just use Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
    * Now go to the processes tab, and find "firefox.exe" (without the quotes), Select it, then click "End Process".
    * Or, if you want to, just restart your PC (this should always fix the problem of Firefox saying it's open when it isn't)
    * Download Adobe Flash from [http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/licensing/win/install_flash_player_11_plugin_32bit.exe here]. Run it.
    * Start Firefox back up. It seems that the most likely reason for you having firefox.exe hang at shutdown is a bad extension, so you can try [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to diagnose if you have more problems.
    Ok, to just uninstall Firefox, let's do this:
    * Open the task manager (it appears you are actually using Windows XP?). Just use Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
    * Now go to the processes tab, and find "firefox.exe" (without the quotes), Select it, then click "End Process".
    * Or, if you want to, just restart your PC

  • I tried to download adobe flash progam but before I can not finish the dowload I am asked to close mozilla fire fox. How do I close fire fox? How do I close this program so I can down load adobe flash drive.

    the download get to 50% AND THEN TELLS ME TO CLOSE MOZILLA Fire fox. I need help to close this progam so I can finish the download.

    There are two different versions of Flash, the '''''ActiveX''''' version for IE and the '''Plugin''' version used by most other browsers.
    1.Download the Flash Plugin version setup file from here: <br />
    [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version]. <br />
    Save it to your Desktop.<br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />
    then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed, <br />
    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    4. Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). <br />

  • Will Mozilla fire fox be available in the App Store any time soon ?

    Will the app Mozilla fire fox be available in the App Store so we can open flash player required pages ?

    No one here can say really, only Mozzilla themselves if and when they give in to Apple's requirements, or Apple gives in to their demand of using their web engine rather than Apple's.
    With that said, the Flash problem is not the browser its the lack of a Mobile version of Flash for iOS. Even with FF you would not be able to open flash sites.
    There are however other browsers with varying support for Flash processing that you can use to open flash content.
    Look for Puffin, Skyfire, Photon etc...
    Most of these process the requested flash content at their servers and feed it back to the device in a format that the iPad can understand, which slows performance a bit.

  • IAM LOSTED MY MOZILLA FIRE FOX PAGE BY ASK, HOW CAN I GET IT BACK

    At the time of down loading some thing i losted my Mozilla fire fox page by Ask,I tried a lot . How can i get it back?

    Press the '''Alt''' or '''F10''' key to bring up the tool bar.
    Followed by;
    Windows; '''Tools > Options'''
    Linux; '''Edit > Preferences'''
    Mac; ''application name'' '''> Preferences'''
    Then '''General.'''
    There are two settings;
    * '''When Firefox Starts'''
    When the browser is started, what do you want to
    display. Many of us choose '''Show My Home Page.'''
    * '''Home Page'''
    When a new page is opened, what do you want displayed.
    # '''Use Current Page'''. Use what ever page(s) are open at that time.
    # '''Use Bookmark'''
    # '''Restore To Default.''' about:home shows a Mozilla page with tools.
    You can use any of these that you wish;
    '''about:home''' (Firefox default home page),
    '''about:newtab''' (shows the sites most visited),
    '''about:blank''' (a blank page),
    or you can enter any '''web page''' or '''about: ''page''''' you want.

    hi

    i cant solve this problem, i have added many password, i cant make re install,

    What issue occurs after about 15 minutes? Do websites stop loading? Does Firefox crash?
    Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]

    * [http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/ Hitman Pro]
    * [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
    [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

  • How to download mozilla fire fox and adobe flash media player

    Hi I am so lost i cant seem to download all the stuff i need to set up my notebook (iBook G4) i just need to find out how i can update my mac os x 10.4 to a later version also since mine is obsolete it wont let me download firefox or adobe flash media player. Im not good with computers so i may need instructions to be easy to understand.

    Hello,
    TenFourFox is the most up to date browser for our PPCs, they even have G4 & G5 optimized versions...
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
    SeaMonkey seems pretty fast also, with many options...
    http://www.seamonkey-project.org/
    http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/
    Flash is a nightmare, but my notes on that...
    Look for this for the Standalone player "Download the Macintosh Flash Player 10 Projector content debugger (ZIP, 5.95 MB)"
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
    You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/865/cpsid_86551.html#prob1=uninst,os=m10.6,
    Download this if you haven't...
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp10.1.102.6 4_and_9.0.289.0archive.zip
    Once downloaded if it doesn't unzip automatically the double click on that file.
    Look for the fp10.1.102.64_and_9.0.289.0archive folder, open it, look for the Flash Player 10.1.102.64 folder & open and look for 101r10264 folder & open it, double click on the flashplayer101r102_64_ubmac.dmg file, choose the Install Adobe Flash Player file to install... they don't make it easy!
    Or I put up the smaller ones here...
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/450421/flashplayer10_1r82_76_ub_mac%20copy.dmg.zip
    Stand alone player...
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/450421/LastFlashPPC.zip
    Or free 3rd party...
    http://www.wimpyplayer.com/products/wimpy_standalone_flv_player.html
    The last really supported Flash for PPC was 10.1.102.64, but if it's for like Facebook or such, people have been fooling FB to think they have a leter version installed.
    Texas Mac Man's Flash hack/post...
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3599648?tstart=0
    Flash player 11.1 hack on PowerPC - https://discussions.apple.com/message/16990862
    Might be later ones around also... saw 11.3 I think.
    (If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, contributor Texas Mac Man suggests the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the latest version:)
    Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.
