Get it. You will freikin' love it.
Don't be concerned about the negativity flying around here. After all, this is a forum / messaging board. People naturally tend to take the initiative to post when they have problems.
They most probably won't change any hardware; just firmware & in fact, the very first public Time Capsule firmware update was released last night.
Unfortunately I've learned the hard way & seen it many times before; The fact of the matter is that PEACE OF MIND IS PRICELESS. PERIOD.
Knowing that my years of digital video + pics + LOTS of work is being backed up lets me sleep at night.
Not only does Time Machine allow you to restore individual files, it also allows for full disk partitions, even your bootable partition (boot to Time Machine to restore).
Do it. Just do it. 1 TB, there's no other way.

If water drained out of your phone when you pulled it out of the toilet it is most likelyh dead.  Stop trying to turn it on or plugging it in.  You really need to put it in a bag of rice for 3-4 days and just leave it alone.  It will take that long to get it totally dry to see if it is going to come back to life.
Good luck, but since you tried to turn it on, and plugged it in while it was probably still wet inside I would not count on it surviving.

I have an existing new belkin modem router which works fine with quiet a few wired and wireless products in my house. My question is if i buy a time capsule can i put it in another room and wirelessly connect it to the belkin modem router, I would then just like my macbook pro and (imac future purchase) to wirelessly back up to it???????????

Your will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the TIme Capsule to clear out the current network settings and then reconfigure it to "join" your wireless network using the AirPort Utility setup application.
To perform the Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule....
Pull the power cord from the back of the device
    Wait a few moments
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule and keep holding it an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power cord back in to the Time Capsule
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 25-30 seconds for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
    On your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Continue
Follow the guided setup and choose the "join" option when it appears duriing the setup
You will need to know the exact type of wireless security that the Belkin router is using to enter this information during the setup of the Belkin. Otherwise, the Time Capsule cannot join the network, and you will receive an error message after the configuration process.

  • Questions before I purchase a Time Capsule.

I have a few questions that maybe somebody on here can help me out on. I have an external drive that I am currently using with Time Machine but I want to create a wi-fi network so I would like to buy the Time Capsule 500GB model which should be enough for me but would I be able to plug my existing drive into the Time Capsule so that my wife can back up her macbook to my external drive but wirelessly through the TC? sorry if that sounds confusing.
Also is it possible for a macbook to share an itunes library on my imac with the TC? Would the songs be able to be played on the macbook in another room without be played on the imac which houses the files?

I want to buy the 8 Gig as it is what I can afford right now. If I load it up with say 6-7 gigs of music will I have room for movies. If I purchase movies or tv shows can I keep them stored on my Itunes and transfer them back to the touch when I want to just like I can do with music. Is the Touch really worth all the money. I know the Classic holds tons more but I love the internet WiFi on the touch as well as how just plain cool it is. Any opinions?
    Hey Robert,
You can always keep the songs and video on the computer and not sync them to the ipod.
Is the touch worth all the money?
YES =) I love my touch and wouldn't want to be without it.
And I do have one small suggestion... Don't buy the 8GB, hold of and keep saving the other $100 you need to get the 16GB model. If you want to be able to carry a decent amount of video with you or if your song collection gets larger, you will be very happy if you hold off till you get the extra cash and buy the 16GB version.
Just think about it $100 = double the storage space.

  • If i buy a time capsule in europe it will work in the us?

If i buy a Time Capsule in Italy it will work back in the US?

    Yes, BUT..
Apple regionalise them.. and the European wireless rules are different to the US. And a Euro one, will not allow you to select US as the current region for wireless.
Mostly Europe has more range than US, and therefore you can use it illegally in the US.. but as long as you stick to the allowed channels you will have no problem.
That implies btw that you do not leave the channels on auto.. you should always manually set them.. otherwise the router is just as likely to choose the illegal channels since they are not used and it will auto discover the lack of wifi happening.
    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels
And compare for 2.4ghz and 5ghz.
Overall it is much better to buy in the market you will use it in.
AFAIK apple do not allow change of region.
I figured out how to change them.. but it requires a soldering in a serial port.. you don't want to know!!

A wireless printer connects to the network just like your computer, or iPhone/iPad, etc. connects using wireless.
The printer must be set up intially to scan to "find" available wireless networks, then your specific wireless network needs to be selected. Then the password for the network needs to be entered.
Once the printer is configured to join the network, it is always connected to the network. No further configuration is required.

  • Should I compress the data in the time capsule?

should I compress the data in the time capsule?

Thank you. I think an error came up while it was trying, but now I do have a .zip file in the TM, wonder if I should delete it. not sure why I created it. lol. it is probably just taking up more space, what do you think?

  • I keep on getting this error when i try to copy files to my 2T Time Capsule, Please help im running out of space on my MacBook Pro.... The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)

I keep on getting this error when i try to copy files to my 2T Time Capsule, Please help im running out of space on my MacBook Pro....
The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)

I would get an external drive today and copy all your stuff off the TC.. forget trying to load more onto it. There is a good chance after 3years (A 2TB should be only about 2years tops), the disk or the TC itself is on the way out. Do it immediately. If TM is also failing to backup you need to recognise symtoms of impending doom.
Unfortunately the error messages are archane and it is hard to discover their meaning.
You also cannot verify a network drive.. you can verify the TM sparsebundle though so do that.
    A5. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Reboot the whole network from off.. certainly if you run later OS it can simply lose the drive..
If you still fail to be able to copy to the TC.. then get that external and copy off it. Tell us if you can do that.

  • Question before buying a time capsule

I currently have an AirPort Extreme as my router. My external hard drive which I use for backups is dying and I am considering getting a Time Capsule to replace it. But, I need to know how loud the drive in the Time Capsule is. The router is in my bedroom and neither my wife nor I want to hear whirring and clicking at night. Or could I keep the AirPort Extreme as the main router and add the Time Capsule as a repeater of some sort (which would be nice as  I could use a signal boost in my living room).
    Thanks,
    Andy

A few minutes after a backup to the Time Capsule, the hard disk goto sleep mode. So the Time Capsule makes absoluetly no noise.
The Time Capsule disk will periodically spin up and run a check of the Time Capsule. You may not have noticed this. You cannot predict when this will happen, but it will occur much more often as the disk storage capacity approaches 70-80% full.

  • About to buy a Time Capsule...

Looks a great piece of kit but just got a few questions before I buy...
Will Time Machine / Capsule backup my Firefox bookmarks, settings and cookies?
Will Time Machine install all of the 3rd party software etc that I have installed since buying my mac when performing a restore from backup?
What advantages does the Capsule have over using a normal USB HD with TM apart from the wireless functionality?
Is there anything TM won't back up? I like the way how if I was to ever loose or break my iPhone, when plugging in a replacemnt into iTunes for the first time it is restored EXACTLY how the old one was, is this similar with TM & TC?
    Thanks
    James

Yes. Unless you tell it not to, it will back up you entire system, except for some things not needed to do a restore, like system work files, most caches and logs, trash, etc.
Will Time Machine install all of the 3rd party software etc that I have installed since buying my mac when performing a restore from backup?
Yes, if you restore your entire system. You can restore apps separately, but if they're apps installed with special installers, they likely have other files in other places, including your system folders. Unless you know what and where all those other files are, and restore them, too, the app probably won't work right, if at all.
What advantages does the Capsule have over using a normal USB HD with TM apart from the wireless functionality?
None. If you have a desktop Mac, a good USB (or, better, FireWire) drive will be much less expensive, faster, and more reliable than WIFI.

Yes (but it isn't automatic). The exception is, if you're running Windoze on your Mac. If via BootCamp, that partition is not formatted for a Mac and TM cannot back it up. If you run it via Parallels, vmWare, or similar, TM can back it up, but the backups may be very large, so it usually isn't recommended. There are 3rd-party apps for that.

  • TS3972 How can I access the files(movies, music, etc) in my Apple Time Capsule(4th Gen) from my Apple TV(3rd Gen). This is very frustrating Apple has not provided a basic feature, and me buying the Time Capsule and Apple TV is an complete waste of bucks.

I have an Apple TV (3rd Gen) and Apple Time Capsule (4th Gen). How can I access Movies and Music stored in the Time Capsule from Apple TV. This is very  n't give frustrating that Apple doesn't give their customers with an straight forward access to their customers in between their own products. Iam repenting that buying these products is completely waste of bucks. Appreciate your help...

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Time Capsule is clearly announced as a router with a hard drive to make backups, not to store anything and share it with your Apple TV.
To access to movies and music from the Time Capsule, note that the Apple TV can only access to them if they are stored in your iTunes library, so you will have to put your movies and music into iTunes to access to them, and then, put your iTunes library on the Time Capsule in order to access to your data from there

  • I want to install hybrid drive in Macbook pro. I bought my Mac book with lion and am now running mountain lion. I was told I needed install disk to set up new drive before restoring from my time capsule. Is this correct and if so how do I get disk osx10?

I purchased a Mac book Pro in Aug 2012 with lion and have upgraded to mountain lion. I currently am looking to install the segate 750 gig hybrid drive. I watching video I shows me needing a OSX 10 disk to boot off of when the new disk is in and the use time capsule to restore system from back up drive to new hybrid. Hope I got this correct so far. that being said my Mac Book did not come with a disk therefore is one available, when I get to point of restoring from back up with it be the same mountain lion system I had. Sorr if this sounds redudant.. Thank you in advance

Connect the new hybrid drive to your MBP.  Start up your MBP holding the OPTION key, the two HDD icons will appear.  Select the 'restore' icon on the right.  When you get to the menu where you have 4 options, select Disk Utility.  Format the drive and then you can use the option of restoring it from Time Machine.
    Ciao.

  • I am going to buy a time capsule it it will work on European 220v as the Mac Book Pro does.  Can anyone tell me if it does when you use a plug adapter.  Thanks

Will the Time Capsule work on European 220v if it was bought in the US.  Do you need a transformer or just a plug adapter?  Thanks

The Time Capsule will run on 100-240 volts and 50-60 Hz so you only need a plug adapter, not a transformer with this device.
For more details, look under the Electrical heading on the specifications of the Time Capsule.

  • Why buy a Time Capsule ? Advice Needed

    Hello,
I am thinking of getting a new Samsung UE55D800 television and it is WiFi enabled and therefore I want to get the most out of it.
I know that Apple TV will stream anything from my MacBook onto the TV that is in iTunes but my Mac is slowly getting fuller and fuller and therefore I may want to move some of the the movie content off then onto an external hard drive.
So, what I was thinking is can I store content on the Time Capsule without it being on my MacBook but also have access to it whenever I want through my Mac and through the wi-fi on my tv?
Will I be able to have the TV to talk to the Time Capsule and play stuff from there and I will I be able to have my MAC to talk to the Time Capsule and play content from there?
Hope you can help me on this and give me your opinion on the matter and any other tips you may have to get the most of my tv.
    Thanks
    Neil

Apple doesn't support an external disk connected to the AirPort Extreme, so it couldn't work. Time Capsule is a router with a hard disk inside, and you can store files on it from a Mac or PC
