Should I wait before upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion?

I'm a jump-right-in-and-upgrade kind of person ordinarily, but when I did that with Lion I found a number of my third-party apps had not kept pace with the new OS.  And I'm still waiting for my favorite BigFish game to release a compatible verion.  So what is the consensus -- upgrade or wait?  I know I have a short window to get a free up

There is no guarantee, but I would guess if apps work
in Lion and developers followed Apple's guidelines for
app development, they would work in Mountain Lion.
If they didn't work in Lion the certainly won't work in
Mountain Lion.
You can always get yourself an external hard drive,
clone your current install to it and update to Mountain Lion
on it and play with it or just install Mountain Lion on it
fresh and slowly migrate apps to it.
Or just go wild and just install ML, however still get a drive
and clone your current install in case of issues.
Regardless, I would not do any major update without any backup.

  • How do I make a back up on Time Machine before upgrading to Mountain Lion?

A detailed process would be greatly appreciated. I've heard I should use time machine before upgrading to Mountain Lion for reasons I cannot remember.
    Thanks!

Connect an external drive to your Mac. Open Disk Utility, it is in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder, and see if the external is formated Mac Extended (Journaled) and if it is not you can either use the Partition tab to Re-partition it as one partition and format it Mac Extended (Journaled) or you can use the Erase tab to Erase the drive and format it the Mac format. Name it anything you like.
Once that is done close Disk Utility and open System Preferences and go to the Time Machine Applet. Once that is open, If OS X doesn't ask you if you want to use that external as a TM backup disk, select "SelectBackup Disk" and select that external as a place to store backups. Then move the slider from Off to On and then TM will start the process of making a backup of your system. Once it is finished I suggest you turn it back off.

  • I'm running on Mac OS X 10.5.8. Do I need to buy snow leopard first before upgrading to Mountain Lion?

I'm running on Mac OS X 10.5.8. Do I need to buy snow leopard first before upgrading to Mountain Lion?

Make sure your machine meets the minimum system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
Although it says 2 GB RAM is the minimum, it's generally recommended to have at least 4 GB unless you only use your machine for "light" use (no movie editing/burning, etc).

This is unknown, it will be up to Apple and AFAIK they haven't announced that yet.

  • I have OS X 10.6.8 Can and should i upgrade to mountain lion?

My wonderful son gave me is MacBook. I am wondering if I can and if I should upgrade to Mountain Lion? I have an iPhone 5 and an iPad 3 and am slowly moving to haveing only Mac Products. I would like them to all work together in the Cloud. What should I do?

    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

We can't tell you what to do. Go to Apple's website and inform yourself of Mountain Lion's features to determine if it would benefit you to upgrade. Upgrading isn't mandatory nor always the best thing to do. If Snow Leopard serves all your needs well, then there is no need to upgrade unless you want certain features that would require upgrading. For example, if you want to use iCloud, then you have to upgrade because iCloud is not available for Snow Leopard.

  • Before I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I used an e-card website that played music.  Now, no music.  Prior to 10.8.2, I was running 10.6.8.  Please help

Before upgrading to Mountain Lion, I was running Snow Leopard on my iMac.  I joined an e-card website, Llerrah.com and prior to the upgrade, I got music on the cards.  Now, nothing.  This does not happen on old laptop running Leopard, just the new one.  Three emails to the company and no response.  I was hoping someone could give me a heads up?  TIA

Apparnently the site is not v10.8 Mountain Lion / Safari 6 compatible.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot connect to my Airport Extreme on the 5GHz band (2.4GHz works fine)...what's going on?

I have been having intermittent/no wireless success on the 5GHz band of my Airport Extreme.  I'm on an iMac early 2008.  It was working fine before upgrading to Mountain Lion.  I have tried many things (deleting the wireless network, readding it, changing settings on the AirPort Extreme, deleting the 5GHz network on that and readding it, running diagnostics) but nothing has fixed it.  I can switch to the 2.4GHz band and it works flawlessly.  This must be a software problem since it only started happening when I upgraded the OS.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

No it isn't, I have tried 4 different mountain lion machines connected to a 5Ghz and it works just fine. It is with your machine hence we need to fix it
create a new location and see if that fixes your issue, If not trash Macintosh HD/Library/System Configuration
That is a folder so trash it > restart the computer > create a new location

  • Since upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8.2, I can no longer print head shot photos from CONTACTS.  Please assist.

Before upgrading to Mountain Lion, I was able to print head shots - in ALPHABETICAL order, mind you - from Contacts.  Why do we not have this feature any more?  Please bring back the way it was!  Thank you!
Issue printing from Contacts: can't print head shots and it's no longer in alphabetical order.
Please don't tell me I can do this from iCloud, because it only prints one contact at a time.

Click GO from Finder and hold down the Option key. You'll see the Library folder in the list. Or you can click GO  and select Go To Folder and type ~/Library. This will open the user\Library folder.

  • I am running leopard, can i upgrade to mountain lion?

I am running leopard, can I upgrade to mountain lion?

Going by your profile: iMac (20-inch Early 2008), Mac OS X (10.5.8)  your Mac does qualify for Mountain Lion. See Step 1 here > Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
But you will have to upgrade to Snow Leopard first before upgrading to Mountain Lion. It's not necessary to upgrade to Lion first.
Snow Leopard is no longer available from the Apple online store. You can purchase Snow Leopard by calling the Apple Store at 1-800-MY-APPLE.

  • ITunes doesn't sync iCal with iPhone after upgraded to Mountain Lion

iTunes doesn't sync iCal with iPhone after upgraded to Mountain Lion. I even tried to use Replace Information On This iPhone and it doesn't work. Any idea guys?

I'm having the same problem. It's as if my iPhone and MacBook Pro now have two separate calendars.
Basically, I have a MacBook Pro (Mountain Lion, 13", late 2011) that I sync via USB with an iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1). Before upgrading to Mountain Lion, all of my iCal events would sync flawlessly. But none of the events I've created in iCal (Calendars) since upgrading have synced to the iPhone. Likewise, no new events that I create on the iPhone Calendar will sync to iCal. Also, changes to an existing event (even one created before upgrading to Mountain Lion) don't get synced either.
Everything else seems to be syncing just fine though (music, apps, contacts, etc).

  • I have snow leopard 10.6.8 and want to get on iCloud which requires Lion... should I buy Lion at $29.99 now and upgrade to Mountain Lion whne available (I can't see where it is available for download yet) and what is cost of upgrade to Mountain Lion?

I would wait for Mountain Lion to be released. According to Apple, Mountain Lion will be released by end of July 2012.
It will cost you only $19.99 to upgrade. You can find all the details at the following link...

  • When replacing hard drive and upgrading to Mountain Lion, which should I do first?

    Hey guys,
So I'm upgrading the HD in my 2011 MBP 8,2 from a 500GB HD to a 1TB hybrid drive. I also have a copy of Mountain Lion that I downloaded from the app store. I'm planning on doing a clean reinstall after I put it my new drive, but I'm not sure if I should:
Replace the HD, install Lion on it, then upgrade to Mountain Lion, or
Upgrade to Mountain Lion right now, Replace the HD, then reinstall Mountain Lion.
Is there really any difference in what order you do it in?

Thanks man, just finished everything, works like a charm! I decided to replace the HD before upgrading the OS. This silly new dock design is pretty strange to get used to though...

  • I need to upgrade Snow Leopard to get icloud before my mobileme expires at the end of June.  If I buy Lion, will I be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion free when it comes out?  When is MLion going to be released in UK?

I am running Snow Leopard and have a Mobile Me account.  My Mobile Me account expires at the end of June.  I have been told that I will need to buy the Lion upgrade to run icloud on my imac, but I am aware that Lion is due to be replaced by Mountain Lion this summer.  I don't want to have to buy two up grades!  Will Mountain Lion be released before my mobile me account expires?  If not and I buy the Lion upgrade, will I be able to upgrade it to Mountain Lion, free, in view of the fact that I will only have had Lion for a very short time and could not avoid this purchase??????

    HI...
We have no way of knowing exactly when Mountain Lion will be released. Most likely, if you upgrade to Lion now you'll be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but the actual minimum requirements are unknown at this time.
Lion is only $29.99 plus any applicable taxes and fees and available from the App Store, or you can purchase the thumb drive > OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive - Apple Store
Make sure your Mac meets Lion's requirements.
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
