Should I wait on editing video until I get snow leopard?

I see people are having problems with there videos after upgrading to snow leopard. I plan on getting just not yet. Since I haven't started editing yet, should I get snow leopard first, so I don't run into any compatibility problems?

I haven't had any issues upgrading to Snow Leopard, and all my projects are still working.
But it is generally good practice not to make a major change in the middle of an important project. Also, if it is important, back it up. In my case, I kept a bootable backup of my Leopard system until it was clear that SL was working for me.

How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current Tiger Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and later.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
    E. If updating:
    Download and install update(s)
    Use Software Update, or
    Download standalone updater(s).

  • I'm considering getting an Iphone. Should I wait for the newer model, or get the 4S?

Hi. My upgrade is coming up for my phone plan in July. I really want to upgrade to some sort of smart phone and have narrowed it down to either an HTC, or an Iphone. I need a new Ipod anyway since I have a second gen Itouch so an Iphone looks like a good deal. I am aware that apple releases new versions of their iphone every year so my question is should I wait until the next model comes out and get it, wait until the next model comes out but get a 4S that drops in price, or get the 4S right away when I become available for my upgrade. I am a sprint user btw. Thanks for your help.

Waiting (or not) is up to you... no one here knows your situation, wants, needs, etc.  Apple has not announced anything and it's not certain they will release a new iPhone this year.
All that being said, if it were me, I would wait a few months.

  • What do I need to enable me to put JVC Everio video onto the MacbookPro Snow Leopard bought November2009

    Hello to all,
I am still learning how to use this Macbook Pro and cannot understand why there is no app for
putting JVC Everio video onto my laptop in order to edit and make a disc of my films while on
holiday so that I can send the edited pieces to our daughter in New Zealand where we took them.
I have been into the Apple Store in San Fransisco this month and they could not help as the
laptop was then at home in the UK.
    Are there any apps?
Do I need to buy a reader I have been told by a salesman?
Should I update the Snow Leopard to Lion?
Should I consider any updrade to the Macbook Pro?
Do I need to consider going back to school at age 64 tomix with 5 year olds who seem to understand
computers better than us old grumpies!!!
Is there a site or disc which can take me through any possible remedy to my problems?
Any help will be appreciated especially from people who know what they are talking about.
    Thank you
    atlantisbird

MacBook Pro and Mac Pro are not the same machine.   The MacBook Pro is a notebook, and the Mac Pro is a desktop.   Regardless, the question you have pertains more to Quicktime or iMovie, as both those are video importing applications.     Do you wish me to ask a moderator to redirect your question to either forum?
    There are forums for each.
One application I found is great for importing non-Apple compatible video formats is http://www.etinysoft.com/total-video-converter-hd.html though you may need to get a Flash Card reader that supports your camera's flash card on a Mac to import the video.

  • How can I use Google Video/Audio Chat with Snow Leopard?

I'm a newly converted Mac-ian. So basically I don't know much about the how's and why's when it comes to Mac.
I upgraded to Snow Leopard and although I was able to use Google video/audio chat before the upgrade, my problem is that now I am unable to do so even after reinstallation.
Any one knows why that is and/or how to solve this problem?

Google posted a Snow Leopared specific update to the video chat plugin during the weekend. You will need to re-install it manually by going to http://mail.google.com/videochat

  • ICal 4.0.4--can't edit entries after updating to Snow Leopard

After updating from Leopard to Snow Leopard, my iCal 4.0.4 no longer seems to work correctly--I cannot edit calendar entries. Is there a fix for this?

The behavior of iCal under 10.6 is when you double-click the event you get the event window and then you can click edit to modify it's characteritics.  If you are not getting that result then something is wrong.
re-imported the saved versions, reset my prefs, and iCal is working again.
The exports were as a safety measure.  Removing the files I indicated should not have made your calendars disappear unless they were being hosted on a server like Google or Yahoo.  Did your calendars go away after following the above steps?
Are these calendars in the "On My Mac" section of ical on the left or somewhere else?
Create a new user account and see if the same behavior happens there: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8235.html

  • No video  with Handbrake  using Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I have a Macbook without Snow Leopard - version 10.5.8
I just got a Mac Mini with Snow Leopard.
My Handbrake ( version 0.9.4 i386) works fine with my Macbook.
I have the same version on the Mac Mini but after encoding I
do not get any video - just a black screen and the audio.
Other people say they have no compatibility problem with
Snow Leopard and Handbrake, but something is amiss with my
    setup.
Even when I transfer a video that I have encoded on my Macbook
and which plays perfectly there - does not show any video when
it is transferred to the Mac Mini - I only get the audio.
I also have VLC Version 0.9.9a Grishenko
for info purposes. I read that the newest Handbrake update
requires VLC for something or other.
Would really appreciate any help in this weird matter.
    Thanks

  • Fast Canon EOS video trimming like in Snow Leopard

    Hello,
I used QuickTime X in Snow Leopard especially for video trimming because it was really fast without slow transcoding like in Lion version of QuickTime X. I'm shooting with Canon EOS and I'm really disappointed because previous vesion of QuickTime X reduced file size too and it was really fast.. by the way QuickTime 7 doesn't work how I wanted too. Is there some easy, fast and nice alternative?
    Thank you

Thank you, It's fast but trimmed video output is bigger than original. I'm using Save as..
You did not specify the compression format or settings used by your camera or the application being used for viewing the trimmed content. One cause for a change in display dimensions is the use of a PAR value.  For instance, DV and VOB files are encoded using a 720x480 data matrix but may actually display at 853x480 or 640x480 for NTSC content under normal conditions. I use a similar work flow when making 720p files for iPhone 4/TViPad use by encoding them with a 1024 data width for a 1280 display width to save file space. Unfortunately, if the PAR value is lost in a work flow, then the encoding width value will be used for display in all applicagtions. In a similar manner, if the display dimension values do not equal the PAR value display dimensions, then the file will display correctly in some applications and incorrectly in others. (E.g, QT 7will display file using the physical display dimension settings while QT X will display the file using the PAR aspect ratio value.)

  • Audio Good - Video 2x Speed since Snow Leopard

Ever since installing Snow Leopard, my Quicktime exports from both FinalCut Pro and now Turbo.264 HD come out with good audio, but the video is double in speed.
Does anyone have a fix for this anomaly? It is really hampering my video work, which is WHY I own a Mac.

  • I cannot connect with people on video chat after installing Snow Leopard.

As soon as I installed Snow Leopard I tried to connect (Video) with a friend through iChat, and it kept saying the person declined the invitation. Is this a known issue.

    Hi,
iChat reads the full rate of your Connection Speed in iChat 5 rather than the setting in iChat 4 that read the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming speed as it's speed in Leopard.
I have a G4 running Leopard and calling from the Snow Leopard MacBook Pro gets the Declined message where as starting from the G4 and calling the Macbook Pro even using an AIM Buddy list, works.
I suspect but have no proof yet that the faster speed makes iChat think the other end has not replied and the "Declined" message is the default one.
I would get the declined even before the Visible Invite had go to the G4.
I set the iChat menu < Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth Limit to 500kbps with no apparent improvement.
I have since called other Buddies from the MacBook Pro and been successful.
    (which throws my theory somewhat)
As a Side note the Connection Doctor (Video Menu of iChat) has a Network Status item now and I get Port Restricted which is coloured Amber as being one of the less favoured NAT methods.

  • What software should I use for editing videos from a Vixia HF R500?

I have a VIxia HF R500. What editing software should I use. I am a beginner.

    Hi OM45GTR!
    Thanks for posting.
Depending on what platform you are editing on, you may consider programs like Windows Movie Maker or Apple's iMovie.

  • Should I wait for the iPhone 5 or get the iPhone 4S now?, Should I wait for the iPhone 5 or get the iPhone 4S now?

I dont know what to do! I really want an iPhone 4S now, but I don't know if i will regret it later once the iPhone 5 is released. What should I do? Is it worth the wait? If I do get the iPhone 4S right now will I be happy? I know it sounds stupid, but you all probably know more about this than me.. I'm new to Apple products.

Not really, we're all users just like you & no one here would have any idea about any future Apple products. Further, the terms of use here prohibit the discussion about Apple's plans.

  • Online Video Viewing Trouble with Snow Leopard

I have a MacBook1,1 that I recently updated from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8. When I open Firefox or Safari, go to TouTube, and click a video, all that is left where the video should be is a black rectangle. I have only tried this with YouTube. Thank You:)

Some Youtube videos require a newer version of Flash than you might have installed.    http://www.adobe.com/ is where you update your Flash plugin.
