Should I wait to purchase a Maverick pre-loaded iMac 21.5, or buy now and do a software update?

Just upgraded my operating system to Maverick on my 15" MacBook Pro, but noticed some if my existing iLife that I had from a CD yrs ago still
retain older icons etc.
Now I would like to purchase an iMac, but noticed as of yesterday (Nov 2, 2013) all stores including Apple, have not got in the new computers in that are pre-loaded with Maverick.
It is better at this time, to just wait a week or two and buy an iMac preloaded?
Thanks
Eric

BootCamp alters to boot sector, which *usually* goes just fine but you must use BootCamp assistant to install or remove the partition.  Some people do not like to BootCamp because of the risks, even if small, without the need for a full-Windows compatibility.  You need require a new Windows license (like BootCamp you cannot reuse the old Windows set because it does not have all drivers).
Parallels does not have the risks of BootCamp, but does require a new Windows license (like BootCamp you cannot reuse the old Windows set because it does not have all drivers).
MicrosoftOffice for Mac gets you MS Office with none of the Windows-license requirement.
If all you need is Office, buy Office for Mac from MS, my humble opinion.

Each step involved in updating to/installing iOS7 requires communication with Apple Servers. They are currently being accessed by millions. Please be patient and just keep trying. Or wait till the traffic on them has dropped.

  • Should I wait to purchase an iMac for the release of the new OS?

Should I wait to purchase an iMac for the release of the new OS?

Apple have not announced any new iMac models. I do believe that they have stated that any current Mac running Mountain Lion will be able to upgrade to Mavericks. (Apple have never issued a new version of their OS that would not run on their current/most up to date models/)
So there seems to be no reason why you should not buy one of the current iMacs now.

  • I've had my new iMac for about a week now and am totally sick of Mavericks, I would appreciate any help you guys could give me to help me 'downgrade' to Mountain Lion. Thanks.

I've had my new iMac for about a week now and am totally sick ofthe vagueries of Mavericks,
I would appreciate any help you guys could give me to help me 'downgrade' to Mountain Lion.
I understand that Mountain Lion has never been released on disc, so that would seem to be the major problem.
    Thanks in advance

If the Mac came pre-installed with Mavericks you can't downgrade. Have a look at mine and den.thed's comments here:

  • Display issues concern me--should I wait to purchase MacBook Pro?

I was just about to purchase a new MacBook Pro 15.4/2.2 GHZ. But after reading about all the yellow-hued or bubbling display problems, I was wondering if you all advise waiting a few weeks until these issues get sorted out by Apple. Thanks in advance for your advice!

(yes, I'm still creeping along with my Pismo

I got mine today and I have to say that I can't complain. There was a bit of a scare though as the out of the box situation was that there was the flickering issues but the Software Update 1.0 plus a PRAM reset fixed all that. Phew!

  • My battery drained. Screen shows battery with red line but doesn't seem to be recharding after 20 min.  Should I wait or do a hard restart? I haven't backedup in ages and don't want to lose pics, contacts etc.

My battery drained. Pluged in to wall but screen shows battery with red line but doesn't seem to be recharding after 20 min.  Should I wait longer or do a hard restart? I haven't backedup in ages and don't want to lose pics, contacts etc.  Will a hard restart wipe all that out?

    Agree with Richard:
-Your device needs both the CR and LF. To accomplish this:
option 1: Concatenate the "end of line" string constant (this is a combination of CR and LF, located in the string pallete) to all your outgoing commands. Make sure in the "Visa configure serial port" the "Termination character enable" flag is false.
option 2: Concatenate only a CR to your command's strings. Make sure in the "Visa configure serial port" the "Termination character enable" flag is TRUE AND that the termination character is set to 10 (meaning LF) which I think is the default.
Details can be seen in this link:

"Adding Termination Characters to VISA Serial Writes in LabVIEW"
Interesting would be to configure the serial port to accept not one but two termination characters. The above links refers to the document "Developer Zone Tutorial: Termination Characters in NI-VISA.", where this is supposed to be possible. The document however is 404'ed.
If someone find a working link please post it.

You may want to hold off upgrading to Lion for a bit and check with the HP site to see if they will update their HP software for Lion compatbility.

  • HT1491 I've always used itune cards for purchases but i would like to use my credit card now and i can't find where to enter my credit information. can anyone help me with this please

I've always used itune cards but now I would like to put my credit card info in itunes and can not figure out how to do it can anyone help me please

If you tap on your account id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores you should be able to view your account info (after you've typed in your password) and you should get a payment details option. Or you can do it via the Store > View My Apple ID drop-down menu option on your computer's iTunes

  • Should I Wait to Purchase a iMac G5 w/iSight ?

I was going to purchase a new iMac G5 but was told by a friend I should wait because they're were bugs and other issues with programs and the intel chips.
I would be working with sound and video mostly ( Garage Band and Final Cut Pro).
Is there any truth to this.
    Thanks.

Richard if you are thinking about purchasing the iMac w/the intel chips, then I suggest that you repost your concerns in the iMac (Early 2006) Intel Core Duo Forums so that users of the intel iMac can possibly answer your question.

  • Should I wait for the 5th gen iPod Touch or keep my 64Gb 4th gen and not return it?

Bought a 32Gb iPod Touch and while it was being shipped I realized I'm going to need the 64Gb's if I plan on removing the music off of my 64Gb iPhone and putting it on the iPod and using my iPod as my music source. So I took it ot the Apple store last night and swapped it for the 64Gb. Well I got to thinking, this thing is just over a year old - a new one HAS to be on its way in the near future, right? Certainly they wouldn't go a full two years to refresh the iPod's with the A5 chips that have been out almost a year already. If they were to go with another September launch for the iPod but next year the A5 chip is almost irrelevant by then, A6 will be in the iPad 2S/3, A6 will be in the next iPhone ----- and then the old A5 would just be dropped into the iPod? Just doesn't make logical sense to me. I believe an iPod refreshment will be launched fairly soon, maybe a long side the next iPad release? What do you guys think? The way I'm just seeing it is that I don't really need the iPod right now, so that $400 credit could be used for even double the space the 64Gb has for the same price when the 5th gen launches? And whatever other bells & whistles the 5th gen will offer. I'd feel stupid for paying the $400 knowing I don't need it quite yet and that a refreshment could possibly be on the way soon. Thoughts?

It is all up to you.  I have not heard any announcement from Apple about a 5G iPod touch.  SInce you do not "need" then wait.

  • I'm trying to decide the amount of memory I need in an iPad.  I'm a graduate student and am purchasing the iPad to load my books onto, keep a planner, and stream TV

I'd rather have too much memory as opposed to too little.. but I don't want to spend an extra 100 bucks if I don't need to! I don't really understand the whole memory thing - so I guess I'm looking for an explanation of that - as well as what people in similar situations use.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Pre-Order Mirror's Edge Catalyst Online now and get the Combat Runner Kit

The next Mirror’s Edge game has been a long time coming, as the first game in the series was released back in 2008. Fans rejoiced this E3 when we all got our first real glimpse of Faith back in action, and she along with the game has never looked better! Set to release on February 26 2016 Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will bring us back to the city skyscrapers and by pre-ordering now online with Best Buy you can get the Combat Runner Kit to help fight your way to freedom.

Ok I think I'm in for this one. I just hope my player doesn't get drafted by the Detroit Pistons again. A 3 point shooting point guard that doesn't play physical doesn't fit in well with the bad boys of the NBA.  Bill Laimbeer and Vinnie Johnson would never stand for it!

  • Lenovo pre-load OS vs. clean install + System Update

Hi all, just wondering what the conventional wisdom is these days: stick with the Lenovo pre-load OS or perform a clean install and then use System Update to add whichever drivers seem worth adding.
I've traditionally performed clean installs on new computers, but I'd be happy to skip the chore if it's not all that beneficial anymore.
    Thanks!
