Should I wipe and reinstall Mavericks... or what would you suggest?

Hi everyone!
So I'd like to ask you for your advice here... I bought my MacBook Air 13" in fall 2013 (I've got the latest model) which came with Mountain Lion. I've been using Mavericks since its roll-out, but I'm very concerned about the quality of the newest version. What happens regularly to me:
1) The log-in screen: when I turn on my mac, but log-in screen animation seems pretty. Nothing that really concers me, but the animation in 10.8 was pretty smooth.
2) Finder: sometimes I have to relaunch finder even many times in a row via cmd+alt+esc when renaming pictures or files.
3) Adobe Dremweaver CC: crashes a lot (I found out that it was a java problem, but I updated and it still crashes a lot.)
4) Apps crashing quite a lot overally, mainly apps like Mail.
5) I get a lot of the colored moving circle ("Please Wait..."), overally I'd say the system has gone down since I installed it.
My question is: should I wipe the device clean and re-install Mavericks? I like and use a lot of the new features. But if I should wipe it, how? Once I did it, I reinstalled the system but the data remained and I'd like to go factory clean and set it all up again.

If you have already tried reinstalling Mavericks, you may want to avoid restoring data from a Time Machine backup in order to start fresh. It does sound like you're encountering a lot of unexpected behavior with your Mavericks installation.

Does the regular Firefox 8 release version work or does the version crash as well?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

I installed the update Mavericks operating system and after that I lost iphoto and imovie. Because an application that I had already gone and is being charged in the App Store. this is absurd. I can not pay for a program that already had! What would you suggest me!

One Accesspoint and two server...what would you suggest?

I'm developing an application which handles two wireless barcodereaders. There are two computers, and one of them is connected with the accesspoint.
The communication to and from the accesspoint is managed with an COM Component, which is used from Java.
The barcodescanners should interact with my application , for excample if the salesman scanns a customer-ticket, the customers data should be displayed on the screen. The barcodereaders can be identified with an uniqu id, so it's no problem to know where the data came from.
But my problem is...I'm getting all of the events to the computer which is connected with the accesspoint....
How do I tell the other computer to display the customers data which have been scanned with the other barcodereader?
How can I get the event handled on the other computer???
Sockets would be a possible way, but I think that might get very complex - than i thought i could call with RMI a fireEvent Method on the 2nd computer...!?!
What would you do to solve this problem?
I'd be happy for your help!

SQLSRV Driver vs PDO_SQLSRV. What would you suggest, and why?

My team and I are working on a mobile XMPP/Jabber instant messaging application, aimed at iOS, Android and Windows 8 phones. The back-end XMPP Server is
OpenFire and this OpenFire Server works together with a SQL Server 2014 Database to store users, offline messages, etc. We also want to do some stuff to the database, which OpenFire does not
do by itself. For this, I have opted to use PHP on the server and call it via jQuery Ajax on the front-end. Anyway, what I am wondering is, which of the two PHP Drivers for SQL Server I should use in this case. There seem to be two drivers provided by Microsoft:
A) SQLSRV Driver (procedural)
and
B) PDO_SQLSRV (Object oriented).
I am currently reading the documentation at Accessing SQL Server Databases from PHP to get some insight into these two options,
but I am wondering if anyone has any preference for any driver, and why?
Ideally, I would like a driver that is fault-tolerant in an environment where many quasi-simultaneous read/write operations are made to the database, as we are hoping for a high adoption rate for this application, meaning lots of users -> Lots of SQL
Queries.

Edit: Also, I am running PHP 5.5.15, however the download package at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=20098 only includes drivers for php 5.3 and 5.4. Will these also work for PHP 5.5.15 (running XAMPP)

Let's say a budget of $500. Important note: I run my games at 1280x1024 on an 18" monitor and have no plans on getting a new monitor, I'm happy with 1280x1024. I'm planning on playing games like stalker, crysis, hl2, bioshock etc. I'm sure the current hardware will run these games as it is but I'm looking for high frame rates with aa and af on.

Oh boy, are you in for a downer, try playing supreme commander , a little glimpse into the future...

hl2 and stalker should be fine even with your current system - But you can bet your marbles crysis will be just as tough as supreme commander...
I'd wait till crysis arrives and then get a completely new box - A 3200+ won't cut it.
Crysis is also a DX10 game, The main advantage of DX10 is shader model 4.0 wich allows more effects without losing performance - So it'll run better on a DX10 card like the 8800. For the 8800 you need pciexpress motherboard , and a 8800 is highly cpu limited with a 3200+ ...
A good core2 system is GPU limited with the 8800, that's how big the gap is atm...

Slow Powerbook - should I wipe and reinstall?

My Powerbook G4 aluminium (1Gb) is exactly one year old. It's now become quite slow, annoying me. I can only think/hope that it's due to sheer weight of software running, disk space used etc.
As a general rule, will wiping the drive clean and performing a factory OS reinstall, as per Apple setup disc, result in quicker performance, maybe back to original factory settings (before I start adding software again)?
What are the factors here?
I really want my Mac to perform like it used to. So is this a good option for me?
I'd need to buy a backup drive to perform the operation and would need further advice on what kind of backup to make (ie. wipe the drive and start over, or only reinstall the OS, how to retain things like iTunes/iPhoto library).

if your problem is software related, then yes, a reinstall would make the machine run properly again if you do a complete reinstall. have you done any disk maitenance http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214 or created a test user to see if your problems are user specific?? the problem might be easily remedied without a reinstall. if you do a clean install of the operating system and there are still problems with the computer, and you haven't reintroduced any third party software, then you have a hardware problem. if you have a backup of info, it's a good way to determine if something is hardware or software related.

Typically desktop PC's do not have speakers unless they are external. So unless there were speakers in the box, then you have correct assumption. I had another with the same question and unless the monitor has speakers, then external speakers are required.
On the other question, it would seem that installing Windows 7 may not void the warrenty, as HP does not support the OS, other than providing it.

Since you reformatted your computer and re-installed the OS, your iPod will not recognize the new library because it will still be associated with the older one. When you plug in your iPod nano, iTunes will tell you the iPod is synced with another library, and will ask you if you would like to "Erase and Sync." Otherwise, yes, everything on your iPod will be wiped off.
If you did not have your iTunes library backed up, there are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link after the Apple support document below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

Lastly, as stated you will need to re-authorize your computer to play any iTunes purchases. its a long and sorry story, i have a imac running mavericks
a few days ago i noticed that the dvd drive was ejecting every disc i put in, so i decide to check hd with onyx and reset permissions etc
onyx said the smart status couldnt be checked and i should check hd using disk utility.
i did this and it came up that hd had errors , so i ran the repair facility....it came up with disk can not be repaired, reformat and reinstall mavericks
this i did.
i reinstalled mavericks into mac hd, which took about 3 hrs, i then rebooted and a folder with flashing Qmark appeared, i cant get past this at all.
i have tried to use internet recovery but it comes up with 6002f error, and the dvd drive still does not accept boot disk, so i am at a lose as to how to proceed
anybody got any ideas?

If your hard drive has SMART errors then it is failing and should be replaced. Disk Utility cannot fix SMART reported errors.

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
