Should iMovie11 be able to import VCR tapes using Canopus ADVC-100

I think the answer is yes. However, in my case there seems to be a hiccup. The Canopus screen opens okay and import commences, as confirmed by the red light in the timer recorder and the time running up. Unfortunately, importing stops at 2 seconds with manual input selected and 1 minute with automatic selected. From the saved events, the manually imported DV file will not play because of its insufficient length and the automatically imported one plays back for the 1 minute. I have checked the settings and connections and all are okay but something is awry.
A forum search appears to say  the ADVC-100 and iMovie 11 are not compatible but the fact that 1 minute of tape can be transferred successfully suggests iotherwise.
Are there any suggestions on what may be at fault ?

Problem Solved. It would have helped if I'd checked the Analogue/Digital Button on the front of the Canopus first. Was set to digital when I was importing analogue.
Oh, the times I have forgotten to do that!

    Dear Forum,
We have a role created with all the transaction (*) given to a user.
We want to revoke/restrict the authorization to import a request.  User be able to create/edit/release the request but should not be able to import.  This should happen without changing to existing (*) but at the same time user should not able to import.

I suspect the how was the original question. S_TRANSPRT is the (already given) answer. Deriving will do nothing for that object as not one of its fields is organizational. Besides that, restricting some more objects to make sure the user cannot create and/or use any workarounds is essential to make this work properly.
The additional request This should happen without changing to existing (*) scares me a bit. Why do these users need over 70000 transactions?

  • Best Way to Import VCR tapes to iMovie

    Hello, all.
I have a small problem that I hope somebody can help me with: I currently have an ADS Pyro A/V unit. I was told my the local Apple dealer that would be the best way to import VHS tapes into iMovie. It has worked for a few tapes, but now does nothing except give me a static-greenish-loud-high pitch sound when I try to import a tape.
I have given up on this unit!!!!!!
Can anybody recommend a decent way to import my old VHS movies to my MacBook and into iMovie??
Thanks for your time & input!

I have the same situation as the original poster (VHS tapes I want to edit and store on DVD).
    However I don't have a CamCorder.
What I do have is a PVR that I have used to capture the video and I can write that to a DVD. That gives me the base video that I can work on.
However, the files on the DVD have a .VOB file type. I have tried StreamClip but it provides me with a number of options as to the format I can import it into.
Ultimately I want to bring the image into iMovie, edit it and then burn it back onto a DVD. I don't really care if the intermediate files are large, but I am a little concerned about loosing picture quality (which is not great to start with - the original images were on recorded on Super-8 movie film, then 'projected' and recorded onto the VHS tape of which I have a copy. However it is all I have!!!)
What is the best format (and if necessary, tool) to copy the .VOB files to - something that iMovie can use without conversion preferrable - and then write back to a DVD.
    Thanks
    Susan
(PS in case you haven't gathered, I'm new to all this side of things, but I have time and a strong desire to learn!)

  • Trying to import dv tape using Canon ZR10, but it's very stuttery

This is my first attempt at importing a dv tape from my (yes very old) Canon ZR10.  But it's not happening; the tape becomes digitalized, stutters and then freezes.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, that IS an old camera. Mine died, and I have a 25 that can't rewind, as well as a 45 and 850 that work great.
    But that's beside the point.
ALL of them have difficulty importing unless they are the ONLY FireWire device connected.
Well, not consistently.  But I can only import to the system disk. None of them would import to an external FW drive. The 45 and 850 won't even tolerate a FW drive connected to a second FW400 port, let alone being part of a chain. I think the 850 won't even tolerate a FW drive connected even if it is powered off.
Since my ZR10 no longer works, I can't state emphatically which category it fit, but the simple solution was to disconnect all FW devices except the camera and import to the system drive.
Just to be clear. I could copy the files onto an external FW drive after import and edit them there.  I just can't import to any drive but the system drive with any of my ZR cameras.
Funny thing is, when I upgraded to a new i5 quad iMac last month, it only has ONE FW800 port.  I found that I can connect the ZR45 into the 400 port on the first FW800 drive and it works just fine. It just wouldn't tolerate being chained on a FW400 drive, or connected to the FW400 port on the old computer with my Ext drives connected to the FW800 port. Strange, but at least it works.
Btw. If I recall, the ZR10 can be used as an AV/DV convertor if you have any old VHS tapes to import -- you just can't do it with FCPX. It won't recognize input from a device it can't control. I use QTPro 7, but FCE will work, if you can find a copy. Maybe iMovie would work, and then import iMove events.

  • In dbx - should i be able to cast a variable using a template?

    as in:
    print *(CRef<CSeqDB>*)((*seqsrc)->DataStructure)

    The short answer is yes.
There could be two problems here:
    - template should already be instantiated in current scope; dbx can't create instance itself;
    - dbx is not a compiler so I expect that it can't parse some complex expression.

  • Audio Drift when importing VHS Tapes-Do I need a Canopus ADVC 300

Embarking on the daunting task of importing/editting >100 2hr VHS tapes, and want to get the best results for my efforts.
I pop a tape into a VCR connected via S-Video (video) and RCA (audio) cables to a Sony DVMC-DA1 AD converter, and from there to my Mac Pro via Firewire. Use FCE "Capture Now" using NTSC DV Converter setup. Start capture, let it run unattended, and return at my leisure to do some rough editting.
Problem is the audio on the imported clip gradually loses sync, by about 2 seconds by the end of the clip. The sync problem is present on the clip when played with Quicktime as well.
    Questions:
    1. Is there a reasonable way to correct this in FCE?
    2. Since my Sony converter is nearing 10 years old, will use of a more recent AD converter such as the Canopus ADVC 300 result in a perfectly synced import?
    3. If so, can you comment on the Canopus's purported video noise reduction and image stabilization capabilities? Is it noticable/worthwhile?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hello,
The problem is the audio is not 'locked' to the video, and your old Sony DVMC-DA1 does not appear to support locked audio.
The only way you might deal with this in FCE itself would be to capture shorter clips (say, under 15 minutes each) which would minimize the degree to which the audio drifts out of sync in each clip. (The longer the clip, the greater the drift.)
Given the large amount of video you wish to digitize (some 200 hours), it will be far preferable to use a Canopus ADVC-100, 110 or higher model - +they all support DV locked audio+ - so the video & audio are sync'd without the need for manual intervention or capturing short clips.
I have used the Canopus 100 & 110 extensively and have been very happy with the results. Sometimes, depending on the VHS tape, there is some slight banding at the very bottom of the image but 1) this is +usually not visible+ in the finished movie because it is outside the 'image safe area' and 2) if necessary can be compensated via about a 2%-4% enlargement of the image in FCE (which is not enough to soften the image).
I have not used the Canopus 300 because I never felt the need, as I am happy with my results from the 100 & 110. Users of the 300 have been pretty positive about its built-in TBC and image cleaning capabilities.

  • Should I be able to use MobileMe features if I have an iCloud account?

I recently purchased an iCloud account.
Should I be able to post a webpage using iWeb with iCLoud?
When trying to publish the page i'm asked to sign in to mobileme.  I thought maybe icloud would be sufficient.

MobileMe closed over a year ago, and iCloud does not provide website hosting services. iWeb has not been updated for several years and is no longer sold or supported, so it still offers the non-functional MobileMe option.
Up to and including iWeb '08, it was only possible to publish to other hosts by 'Publishing to a folder' and then uploading that local folder to a website host using a separate FTP client. From iWeb '09 an FTP method was built-in, making it easier to publish to a host other than MobileMe.
In order to upload your existing site in iWeb '09 and above:
Click on the name of the site in the sidebar: the publishing settings pane will open. Set 'Publish to' to 'FTP'. Enter the name of the site and a contact address (if desired).
In the 'FTP Server Settings' section you will need to know the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. Your site will be published in a folder with its name at root level of the server, with an index.html file at root level (which will overwrite any index.html file which may be there already). The 'Directory/Path' field may need to include a path such as '/webspace/' or 'ht_docs/' - this is dependent on your hosting service and they should tell you this. If you want to publish within a folder you can add that to the path.
You can then click the 'Test connection' button so that iWeb can check that it can get access to your server space. You should enter the URL of the site in the 'URL' field so that rss feeds and internal links have the correct address.
To publish using an earlier version of iWeb:
From the File menu choose 'Publish to a folder'. You should create a folder somewhere convenient specifically for this and choose it when publishing to a folder: this folder should not contain anything else.
You now need an FTP program (FTP is the 'protocol' used for uploading) to upload the contents of the folder to your server.Cyberduck is free (donation requested): Transmit is $34 but I think better. You will need the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. You can drag the contents of your folder to your webspace, or create a folder there and drag the contents to that if you prefer.

  • Importing VHS tapes w/ADVC-300 help

Please help, I'm converting a large number of VHS tapes to DVD using a ADVC-300 Analog to Digital Converter and a Sony VCR. Everything imports fine but everytime the signal hits a break in the tape (the old VHS snowstorm) iMovie stops importing. Since most of these tapes were made by my mother in law, nearly every couple minutes there is a break in the tape and I have to constantly hit import to begin again after a break.
While I enjoy being glued to 45 VHS tapes of my wive's childhood, I rather set it and forget it! It might be a function of the ADVC-300 but I was hoping there is a way to configure iMovie to import till disk full or stopped regardless of the signal coming in.
    Thanks!

    Hi Tom
I have an ADVC 100. I've imported VHS video through a panisonic VCR snow and all with no problems into imovie 5. The problem could be with the VCR or the ADVC 300.
A possible work around could be to set the VCR to play the video through to a mini DV tape camcorder. It should record one continueous video on a single time code. Then you should be able to import directly to iMovie -- snow and all!
It's an extra step, but you don't have to baby sit the VCR.
    Good luck

  • Importing VHS tapes to iMac on the cheap?

Is there a way to import a VCR tape to the iMac on the cheap? I guess some type of cable convert from a composite out on the VCR to an input on the iMac? These are just tapes of tapes and such and do not need to the quality output of either the Canopus ADVC 110 or Elgato EyeTV 250. I copied a VCR tape to a mini-DV and was able to output into iMovie with no problem. But that seems a bit tedious!

I have this device. I don't know if $89 will be considered "on the cheap."
    http://daystar-store.com/xlr8xtraview-theeasytousevideo-insolutionforthemac.aspx
It takes RCA composite or S-Video input and sends it to the Mac over USB 2.0 (must be a direct connection). It comes with software to convert that input to MPEG-4 or other compression format. It also has audio input (a pair of red/white RCA connectors); you can use that for audio or the iMac's built-in audio input.
I mostly use it to watch the output of my old TiVo box on my iMac's screen.

  • Importing older tapes

I have a Sony Digital8 Handycam. I have video tapes made on this handycam and tapes made on an earlier 8 one. I have noticed that I can't import to imovie video made on my previous handycam. When I select import via imovie it sees the hanycam ie response to the play, stop, FF, and Rev, but does not import.
Any suggestions to get the video to import?
    TCW

I too have a Digital 8 camera and I had the same issue as you did and I got mine to work by fluke.
    1. plug a VCR into the inputs on the Digital 8 camera.
    2. make sure the camera is set-up to let the signal pass thru it to iMovie 08.
    3. hit "play" on the VCR and iMovie should recognize the signal and start to upload.
    4. now with a non-digital 8 movie loaded in the camera, hit "play" on the camera and then hit "stop" on the VCR and the camera signal should take the place of the VCR signal.
    5. I did this a couple of times and by the 3rd time there was no need to even use the VCR signal anymore and iMovie 08 recognized the non-digital 8 tape signal all by itself and I haven't had an issue since.
......as I said, it worked for me for some reason so its worth a shot if your looking for a solution
    good luck.

    Hi,
I have been able to import from our Panasonic NV-GS120 (DV) camera numerous times before using Imovie. Hi
    Test another FW-Cable.
Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
Toogle in iMovie pref: Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape:
Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Exchange formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
    Using WHAT ? :
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? (Others don't count)
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into
    this and have a re-try.

  • VCR tapes to iMovie

Hello guys, first off, Happy New Year! Here is my story...
I been making DVD's and videos on my PC using Pinnacle Studio for awhile now. I have also been playing some with iMovie on my iMac G5. My Sony video camera hooks up via firewire just fine and I can easily import video to iMovie.
However, I really want to be able to capture video from my VCR. My VCR just has the standard RCA jacks on it and that won't hoookup to my iMac.
What hardware do you recommend that will alow me to use my VCR with iMovie? If I can find a solution I may just move all my video/dvd making from my pc to my iMac.
    Your suggestions are appreciated!

a little digression on this subject: I had a PC and purchased a av converter made by ADSTech called Instant DVD...It came with some software including CapWiz. This is an idiot proof software that allows the VCR tape to be inputted into the computer..It worked like a charm.
    It created Video TS files.
Then I used another software package named DVD X Copy Xpress (excellent for copying commercial dvd's) and it allowed me to copy the video files to DVD. Never a problem.
Then I purchased a Mac and the let downs began. Had to purchase ADS Pyro A/V Link for Mac compatability. No software for Mac as you have to use either IMovie or IDVD. Problems with both of these software, it crashes, some error, or pixelated import issues. ADS claims that their is an Apple fix however so far I can't access it.
Hate to think that I have to go back to the old Windows machine.

  • Importing camcorder tape to imovie

    Hi.
I have shot on a mini DV that was accidently set on LP and now can't import the content of the tape to my imovie HD on my powerbook G4. The reason why I know that the record mode is the problem is that other phootage on the tape that was recorded as SP imports fine.
What to do??? Any way around it, or should I consider that material lost? Is there any other software I can work with? I could potentially install FinalCut 5 - would that work better? Would another computer work better? a different version of imovie?

    I realize I'm not being very clear, so let me correct that;
The tape was shot on a mini DV that was set to LP. I'm now using a DIFFERENT camera for the editting, and don't have access to the original camera I shot the video on. The current camera is compatable with imovie whether set on LP or SP - I recorded in both modes, and was able to import these parts.
The audio was set to 16 in both cameras, I beelive.
I hope that makes more sense. I am new to this stuff, and don't know how to transfer the tape - if I get another camera and a firewire, would that work?
