Should iPhone remember connection to a "closed network?"

I chose to keep my network closed by configuring my Airport Extreme to not broadcast it's network name. Laptops have no trouble remember the settings for my closed network after just one configuration. I just got my new iPhone connected to my Airport Extreme, but it seems to lose or forget the settings after it automatically locks. I then have to reconfigure the Wi-Fi settings of the iPhone to reconnect to my wireless network.
Is this normal behavior? Shouldn't the iPhone remember the network settings for networks it successfully connects to, even if the network is not broadcasting its SSID?

Perhaps this is a modem security thing. In France, I use a LiveBox modem. The iphone French help line told me to disconnect then reconnect the modem, wait for 4 buttons to begin flashing and then stay on, until the final 5th button - the one that indicates wifi - starts to flash. During that time, new devices can be added.
I did this, it worked, the iphone's stayed on wifi for two days. I've gone shopping, taken it for walks, and still it connects, no problems, on return.

  • Help - wifi connection to a closed network

I have a blackberry 8900. How do you connect to a closed network via ADSL? The wifi does connect to the router, and I am able to browse the net. The ADSL also allows access to a closed network, but I am unable to access the closed network.
why? if i can access the internet via router, why can i not access the closed network?
    thanks

By a closed network, are you referring to your own internal network?

i just updated my ipad to ios 8 but i cant connect to wifi network..its says my password is incorrect although i know my password is correct as successfully updated 2 iphones and connected to same wifi network

I had the same problem. I reset my network settings as iOS 8 on my iPad 3 seemed a bit slow. When I tried to reconnect to the wifi the correct password was not accepted immediately.
after retrying several times it did manage to join the network. The only observation I had was that I had a weak signal and an iPhone next to me at the time.
make sure you are close to the wifi signal away from any other wifi devices.

  • How do I know if my iPhone is connected to my wireless network?

How do I know if my iPhone is connected to my wireless network?
I entered the password to my network but it seems to be continuously trying to connect. The network name changed from black to navy blue. Does this mean anything?

You will see the wi-fi symbol (fan) in the status bar.
    Read the manual:

  • My iphone wont connect to a cellular network

My iphone 3gs will not connect to any cellular network?? just keep getting "no service" any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Contact your carrier and verify that you have a data package. Also make sure your APN settings are correct (these should be automatically set, but sometimes they are not). Settings>>Cellular Data>>APN.The carrier should help you with this.
Are you using an iPhone supported carrier? Which one?

  • Iphone cant connect to password protected networks

Hi, my iphone connects to non password networks very easily. However when its protected by a password i can't log in even if the hep key is correct.
I've done everything from resetting the network settings, typing the ip address, and so on.
    Thank you for your help

"Wrong Password" is not one of iOS's error messages.  So where are you seeing this?   Have you tried taking it ot the GenusBar to be looked at?
Are you entering your system account or AppleID password to logon to WiFi networks?  If so that will not work.  you have to use the specific user name and or password each specific network.  Do you have accounts on any of these networks you have tried to connect to?

  • Why won't my iphone 4 connect to my home network?

I've had my iphone4 connected to my home wifi network for about 18 months with no problems.  A few weeks ago it suddenly dropped the connection and when I try to connect, and enter the password, it tries but then responds that it can't join the network.
I can connect to other networks at work and in public.  There is a laptop  and another iphone4 connected to the home network with no problems.
Today, I ahve reset the router (as suggested on another thread) and reconfigured the network.  The laptop is connected and working but now NEITHER iphone will connect to the wifi.
    Help please!
    Sue

Thanks for trying but mine hasn't. I've connected to this router before with no problems. There doesn't seem to be a reasonable explanation.

  • How can I get my ATT iphone to connect to my Apple Network? (internet access code.s airpo

How can I get my iphone with ATT service to connect to internet using the Apple Network that all my other laptops and macbooks find easily and accept.  The iphone only "discovers" some random DSL code that is NOT mine and that needs a password.  Help!!! Not once has this phone allowed me to use my email.

There does not seem to be any hour glass type of waiting.  When I installed AI I also had to manually activate it because it would not connect to the internet.  I also have photoshop version 3 and 5 (but I removed 5 yesterday but that didn't help) on my computer.  I tried disabling firewall but that didn't help.  I can see no internet related information in the exchange panel.

  • Why doesn't my newly activated iPhone 5 connect to the ATT Network?

I just went to ATT to activate my new iPhone 5. For some reason it wont connect even though ATT says its activated in their system. Are the Apple Servers down?

If you're in the U.S., try phoning AT&T from a land line at (800) 331-0500 (staffed 24 hours a day).  Be prepared to describe your iPhone including its phone number, IMEI, etc.  All that information is on the iPhone box.  They should help you activate it.

  • HT3574 If my iphone already connected to a wifi network like my home network, can I use internet tethering without using my limited data?

I don't want an answer like "Google it" or to have take an Hour drive to the Apple store for this question.
Considering when you are connected to Wi-Fi, your data does not get spent when you use the internet on your phone.
Can I run the Connection from my Phone to a Computer without using my Data?

You misunderstand me.  My IT department neither condone, nor condemn my actions.  I tried to connect my company bought kindle to my iphone to use it as a gateway (because it has no ability to accept proxy details).  I noticed that every time I created a personal hotspot on my phone it would disconnect from from the wireless and switch to 3G.  I came looking to see if I was doing something wrong and discovered it is not intended to work in the way that I thought it would.
I work for a college and a large part of my role is investigating technology, discovering what works with current systems, including what needs to be changed or modified to work with what we have in place already.  This is usually due to demand from students but also occasionally staff.  Part of this role includes making sure that there aren't work arounds (like I was trying above) that could be circumnavigating our security.  I've found it interesting to try and stay one step ahead of the next batch of fresh and shiny minds that like to prod and poke the network.
TL;DR I answered about 4 or 5 personal and corporate tech related questions in one foul swoop!  Thank you for your help.

  • IPhone and connecting to college campus network!! helppp

Ok, i have a problem connecting to my college campus' wireless network. We have a few different networks all with security enabled. When i go to click on the network it brings me to a page where i have to choose from DHCP, Static, ect..and i have to enter IPs and a DNS; and more other information.
When you connect to the networks with a laptop it connects automatically and the internet browser directs you to the schools web page asking for school info such as an email and password and stuff. This doesnt happen with the iPhone; cant even connect to the network itself....anyone having this issue?? or know how i can fix this? thankss

yeahh i was thinking that, just ask the school or IT dept. I dont think they'll be able to help me with an iPhone and getting onto the network, they'll just be like i dont know, its not a regular computer. I guess ill have to look for the IT department.

  • My iphone is connected to my home network and imessage keeps failing. Is this normal? How do I fix it?

I recently changed my iphone settings to restrict all data to wi-fi. Since then I have been unable to send imessages. I keep getting the '!' and the 'Not Delivered' message. Could these things be related? How do I fix it without enabling celular data?

Are you sure that you're sending the message to the correct number or apple id? You could try to turn off the wifi just for isolation. Have you tried sending from elsewhere to see if it's the phone or the network? Try some isolation steps to see where the issue's coming from

  • Connecting to hidden/closed network

I have all the latest updates for my Macbook Pro, but I've noticed that whenever I restart the computer, it can't connect to my network at school. It's a hidden network, but I have it in my preferred list, so it ought to be able to find it. When I just put the computer to sleep, it can find it when it wakes back up, but if I shut it down or restart it, I have to either select "Other" from the Airport list and re-enter all the information or go to the network options and just enter the password for it again (for some reason it doesn't want to save the passwords for my networks). This happened to me at home when I had that network set up as hidden, so I eventually changed it to open so that I didn't have to deal with it all the time. Is there a step I'm missing somewhere?

Sometimes the etwork configuration get a little messed up so try going to the network System Preference and remove the network from the perferred networks list. Apply the change and then readd the network and see if that helps.

  • Trouble Connecting to a Closed Network

I have been trying to connect to the Network in the lab. Predominately filled with Windows users, no one knows the slightest bit about how to connect a Mac, it uses WPA Authentication with TKIP encryption. I have a username and password but when trying to connect with WPA Enterprise it says the network does not recognize that kind of encryption. Does anyone know how to fix this problem. The windows instructions for setting up a wireless network are at:

    if that helps at all.
    Thanks

  • How do I stop my iPhone from connecting to the WiFi connection that my laptop just used?

I have an iPhone (7.1.2) and MacBook Pro (10.9.4). When I connect to a WiFi connection on my laptop, my iPhone always connects to the same network, even though I've explicitly told my iPhone to forget about specific networks. This issue ends up disabling the internet on my iPhone, as I often connect to networks on my laptop that require VPN connections, logins, etc that I am unable or unwilling to do on my iPhone. How do I keep the two separate?

Let me give you an example. I'm at a United lounge at O'Hare Airport right now. They have WiFi here but it requires that you log on in order to connect to the internet. I connect to WiFi from my laptop. All good. Then, immediately, my iPhone connects to the same network. But because I haven't logged on from my iPhone, I can't get online. This kills the internet on my iPhone because I'm connected to a network with no internet access. If on my iPhone I "Forget this Network" and then come back next week, I'll find that it connects to the exact same network.
I travel a lot and almost all of the networks I use on a daily basis require a login of some sort.
I could turn off WiFi but then I have to remember to turn it on when I actually do want to connect to a network, like when I'm at home.
Any idea how to prevent the mirroring of WiFi connections? Or at a minimum make sure the "Forget this Network" option actually works?
