Should iPods be 'run in' ?

As I am expecting delivery of a 60g video iPod, and being well aware of technical issues with both the new model and older generations, Do members think that a process of 'running in' such as used in new cars, etc where the first operational period is restricted to light use, and then more and more pressure being applied as the unit 'matures'? In the iPods case, perhaps resisting the urge to use all of its facilities as soon as it comes out of the box, not putting more than ,say, 20 tunes on, and maybe a couple of photos, but NO videos or podcasts until the unit has had 20 or more hours of use, then gradually increasing the number of songs, then more photos, and after ,say, 100 hours of use, put a small video on, and so on...
The idea being that the hard drive is a mechanical device, and may benefit from gradual increases in use, (remember, motherboards used to be 'burnt-in' at one time). So maybe an iPod should also be gradually burnt-in? I would be interested to see what members think...

I've had no problems. I only have about 1,500 songs on my iPod now (I had 850 on my PC for a Shuffle and added another 650 after getting the 30GB). I loaded pretty much all music at once and then video and then pictures.
My advice is to follow the instruction booklet regarding procedure for adding music first and then video and pictures, and it should be fine. I may have misread the info, but I tried to synch pictures first and I began receiving errors and had to run chkdsk on the iPod unit.
I think you should be fine to put your music on first and then vid/pic. Mine has been fine - no complaints.

  • What should i do if i jailbreaked then restored and  my ipod is running slow..

help my ipod is running slow

Jailbreaking is against Apple's terms of use of its product.
It makes your unit unstable, if it even starts.
Apple prevents this forum from helping you with jailbreaking.  No help here.

  • Can the 4th gen iPod Touch run the same apps as iPhone 4?

I am sorry, I'm not much informed about stuff like this, so I'm pretty much a noob.
I got my eye on the new iPod Touch, especially because it is (from what I've read) an iPhone 4 without the phone and the GPS and a somewhat slightly inferior camera and display. I like the iPhone, too, of course, but the price is something that is really important to me, so it's iPod Touch for me.
I read about all the new features for the new iPod, such as games and other apps, but I'm wondering - can it run the same games apps as the iPhone?
From the fact they operate on the same OS and that they're very similar hardware wise (same processor) I concluded that they can run the same apps, but as I never seen it officially and as there only "iPhone apps" on iTunes store (not iPod Touch apps) I got the impression that might not be true.
So I am asking here now, does the latest iPod Touch run the same apps (games etc.) as the latest iPhone? And can I run the iPhone apps I buy from the appstore on the iPod Touch 4th gen?
I am sorry for my uninformativeness and I thank you in advance.

Most of the iPhone apps will work the same way on the 4G iPod as they do on the phone. However, other that rely on the specific feature unique to the phone may install but will not work well if at all. The App Store should identify the system/device requirements.

  • Itunes won't update IPOD after running Updater

I should have known to leave things alone!
Updated Itunes and ran updater. Have a 15gb IPOD m9460ll.
Now everytime I connect the IPOD it runs the wizard asking me to name the ipod and then it looks like it runs and the songs look like they are there, but they are not on the ipod. Update says complete.
I've uninstalled and re-installed itunes, reset the ipod.
    Anybody have any ideas?

    Figured it out!
The updater had assigned a drive letter that was already in use as a network drive. I went into disk management and re-assigned the IPOD to a different drive letter.
Works now. Hey Apple!, check for an available drive letter before you assign it.

  • Have family plan with 250 data which I almost use each month.  Going on vacation and will be on the road for two weeks.  Should I up my data for a month then change back.  Is it worth it or should I just run over and pay the extra 15 per gig?

Hello mlazaretti. Vacation time is awesome. (Especially a road trip!) Since you will be going out for two weeks, you never know if having extra data may come in handy. I highly recommend switching to the next tier up so this way you have more data. This way it is only $10.00 more versus $15.00, and you dont have to worry about overages. Then change back at the start of the next billing cycle.

  • Whenever I go to iTunes with my iPod 5th generation 32 gb iPod Touch, running iOS 8.0.2, It tells me that the "Other" category is using up 14.59 gb of data. I have no clue why it says this and I have searched the internet for fixes and none worked.

Whenever I go to iTunes with my iPod 5th generation 32 gb iPod Touch, running iOS 8.0.2, It tells me that the "Other" category is using up 14.59 gb of data. I have no clue why it says this and I have searched the internet for fixes and none worked. I have tried on a windows and a mac and noticed no change. I have tried restoring to a backup but that didn't help. I haven't had time to do a full restore but I will try if the problem persists.

An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.

Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

  • I have an older iPod Touch running iOS 4.2.1 which can no longer be updated. Is there a way to download older versions of apps that will run on this device? I am particularly interested in an older version of Minecraft PE. Thanks!

Is there some way to download older versions of games that will run in an iPod Touch running iOS 4.2.1? I want to give my old device to a child who recently went through a hard time and his device was damaged. It is no use if it only has music on it. Thanks!

To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • Should Apple TV run through a cable box then into the TV?

I totally hooked up ATV to my TV. Tried everything and it does not appear on the screen in any TV outputs. Should it be run through the cable box to the TV?

You gave me a suggestion, indirectly, when you mentioned the HDMI ports. I should have orginally checked the TV! My son said "what if the TV has those ports blocked?" So I went into the settings on the TV and found that 3 out of the 7 settings were blocked. I toggled those setting to unblock them and behold it works like a charm. Initially I was laying all the blame on the Apple TV. I never thought about the TV setting. I use cabeling for my HD since I already had the cables and never have used HDMI on the set. Sometimes using common sense prevails. Thanks for giving me the path... sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees. LOL

  • Please help: My iPOD just runs through the playlist. Doesn't play anything.

My iPOD just runs through the playlist. Doesn't play anything. The songs do exist physically on the device.
I tried updating the iPOD but still the problem was not solved.
Is there any way by which I can play the songs without downloading them again on iPOD?
      Windows XP Pro

I just had the same exact problem. It's like the Nano was forwarding thru the songs by itself..nothing would play!
So I went and looked at the manual, which suggested I try resetting it first. I did, and it worked! Here's what I did:
The manual instructed me to turn the "hold" switch on & off. Then it said to hold down the Menu and center button at the same time, until the Apple logo appeared. Then in a few moments the main screen came back on...and I was able to play songs again.
Hope this works for you, good luck!

  • How do I install io7 on an iPod that runs ios 6?

how do I install io7 on an iPod that runs ios 6?

You can't. If it's a fourth generation iPod touch, it can't be updated past 6.1.6, and if it's a fifth generation one, it can only be updated directly to iOS 8.

  • We are using ASCP should we be running the Planning Manager?

    Hello Experts,
We are using ASCP should we be running the Planning Manager? Isn't that only for MRP?
Should we even bother to set the MRP: Consume MPS, MRP: Consume MDS, etc profiles?
    Thanks in advance.
    Greg

You must run planning manager. Besides doing consumption of MPS etc, it does a lot of other functions such as processing of wip job completions etc.
It should run somewhere between once every 30 seconds to 1 minute.
    Hope this answers your question,

  • Wish to install iBooks for my sons iPod touch running iOS 6

Wish to install iBooks for my sons iPod touch running iOS 6 which is not legible for ios7.

Try downloading the current version on your computer's iTunes so that the app is in your purchase history. Then on the iPod go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app and see if you can download an older compatible version of it
