Should it take 7+ hours to export my 2 minute video?

I converted footage from my flip cam to apple ProRes 422 in Quicktime 7. I did some quick edits, threw a few fllters on there & made a minute & a half video. Iopted for the simple share feature to export the movie for youtube. It’s been transcoding for 7+ hours.  Should it really take this long? Or should I try exporting it some other way?

No, it shoudln't take that long.
Yes, try something else.
Exactly what you're doing wrong is difficult to tell from the post but the most liekly cause is FCP is going back tot eh original media, doing a frame-by-frame conversion, and then rendering and then attempting to transcode to the YT target.
Export a self-contained movie, use Compressor to arrive at the YT specs or bring your movie back into an empty sequence, share to YT from that.

  • Why does it take 5 hours to export a 7 minute video?

I'm using compressor, with the iPod settings for my footage I took with my canon hv20. I know it's a huge file but it shouldn't take THIS long should it?

  • Should it take days to render/export a 30 minute movie?

I've edited a video of myself teaching a class. I blurred the bottom half of the screen to obscure the identities of the children for legal reasons.
I did the blurring by duplicating the video track onto V1. The track on V2 was given a Gaussian blur. The track on V1 has a rectangular mask filter set on inverse to reveal the blurred video underneath.
The problem is, it will take about 4 days to export a 30-minute video. Surely that can't be right. I started by rendering the video so I could view it real time but after 8 hours it only got to 2%.
So I gave that up and decided to render out a DV stream, figuring that I could edit that easier. After 4 hours it was still at only 1%.
I canceled that and decided to export the video in thirds. Then I can splice them back together in QT or FCP. If the computer locks up, then I only lose a third of my time invested.
It's been 18 hours now and it's only 27% through the first third. The machine is incredibly sluggish. If I click on another program window it takes about a minute to respond. The clock is keeping up time though the dividers are no longer flashing.
It's never taken this much computing power to export video. Does it make a difference on how many filters I have? I put about 8 oval masks over individual kids' faces before realizing it'd be easier to just wipe out the whole bottom half. Those oval mask filters are still there even though they're not necessary.
At this rate it will take a week to export a DV stream. What's going on? Do I need to restart? Will it go faster if I set the Scratch files on another drive?
    I'm using FCP2.0 on a Dual 533mhz G4 running OS 9.2. I have 790 MB of RAM.
On an unrelated question, can I upgrade from FCP 2.0 (which runs on OS 9 only, not Classic) to the latest version (OSX only)?

I have not done the sort of extreme update you are contemplating, but I would suggest you finish all the current projects on your current system before making any software upgrades. Things can get flakey when upgrading software mid project. Start a new project on the new system.
RAM, purchased from a reputable dealer like Crucial, could give you a boost on your current projects. If you want to continue for a while with your G4, I would suggest you max out the RAM on the machine whether you want to upgrade the OS and FCP to the latest versions or not.
If you have a number of projects coming up over the next year, you probably want to look at a new machine as the time and aggravation savings will probably pay for the thing.
As far as the FCP upgrade goes, I think the software is complete in the box, but requires you enter the serial number of your prior version on installation. I don't think the software you are upgrading from has to be installed on the machine – but I'm not sure about this.

  • Final Cut Pro takes time to share/export a 40 minute video

I bought a brand new new Macbook Pro (4 GB RAM, i5, HD 500 GB (300 GB available) Mid 2012 model and it takes 3-4 hours to share/export a 40 minute video without any effects applied on the clips. I have another Macbook Pro, same model and same specs and it just takes an hour to render the same video/project which I think is reasonable time.
Video files are from my Canon 60d camera which are .mov files. I usually export my projects to H.264 Video and AAC. (Share>Master File)
I don't have any problem exporting/sharing a 3 minute video with effects applied on the clips on my macbook Pro where I'm having a problem with because it has the same export/share time with my other MBP. It takes 5 minutes to share/export a 3 minute video which I think is reasonable. The problem is why my new Macbook Pro takes time to share/export a project with a video duration of 30-40 minutes compared to my other Macbook Pro.
    Thank you for your help!
    Final Cut Pro version: 10.0.8
    Macbook: OS X 10.9.2

If you have two MBPs with exactly the same specs (including GPU) – and you have comparable free space on both system drives –and comparable free space on any media drives  – then verify that your perceptions of their exporting times are different by doing a test with identical projects media and export settings – and ith no other apps running. If you confirm that one is much faster than the other, I'd suspect the GPU. Also open Activity Monitor to see what's being reported – particularly to see whether there are differences in the way memory is being used.

  • Why does Compressor take so long to export a 10 minute video clip from Final Cut Pro?

I've been trying export a 10 minute clip from Final Cut Pro. so it can be used with DVD Studio Pro and burned. However, the rendering process has taken 12 hours! The clip I'm exporting has minimal effects, no music, and is in 1080i 30fps. Does anyone know what's going on or what I can do to speed up the process?

First: How are you exporting? Are you using the Share feature or  Send to Compressor?
Second: You haven't said anything about your system configuration or really very much about your movie. What is its format… is it really 30fps or 29.97? Whatever it is, are the project settings identical to the clip properties, or were they changed?

  • Over 2 Hours To Export a 10 Minute Video Even With Other Editing Software

Hi, I am having a problem with EVERY edititing software I have used. Recently that is. Anyway heres the deal. I got a new computer and it has been an amazing PC. It has a sticker on the front that says HD video editing as in it supports it. Which it very well does. Within the last couple weeks, I have had problems with editing my videos. I usually render 5 to 15 minute videos since I do YouTube. That would take between 10 and 30 minutes. Now, these videos are taking almost 3 hours give or take just to finish rendering. I have no idea why. It all started when I changed the settings in MSCONFIG to have maximum memory. I restarted my PC and got a hardware error. So I went into safe mode and undid what I had done. I also took out the RAM, and CPU to see if that was a problem. I then put it back in of course. I don't know every knick and cranny of Adobe premiere so please be very descriptive. I also remember that I was having trouble with the fan of my CPU. I couldn't get it to lock back down on the mother board. Could that be a problem? It isn't lock in on all 4 parts. Only 2 I believe. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Dumb me haha, I didn't even think of puttin in system info. I believe thats what you were asking? I am using Adobe Premiere CS6. I don't know what version though.
My system specs are as followed
    Pentium Dual Core CPU E6300 @2.80GHz 2.79GHz
    RAM: 4.00 GB
    64 Bit Windows 7
    Nivida Geforce 210 Video Card
The video files I render are M2TS and they are recorded with the Haupaugge Colosus @ 1280x720 in Arcsoft Total Media ShowBiz.
I render them with adobe premiere in H.264 in 1280x720 @29.97 FPS with a Bit rate of 2MB/s

  • In attempt to burn blu-ray, I get QuickTime error 0.  Takes hours to export a 7 minute movie from timeline, then get notice it fails.  What's going on here?

New problem just started 24 hours ago.  When I try to export from the time line to create a QuickTime file, a 7 minute movie on time line takes 3 hours to export and then the export fails, where as a few days ago, that export would take about 10 minutes at most.  I get the same failure notice when I try to share to blu-ray, DVD, or Vimeo.  Tried to use compressor, no such luck as compressor failed to make a .mov file.  I get QuickTime error 0 message about 5 minutes into trying to share to Blu-Ray now.   Does anyone know what is going on here?  I'm running latest update of Snow Leopard on an intel Mac Pro and the latest update to Final Cut Pro X.  I've also installed QT 7.6.6 to use in creating time lapse movie files.

Same problem here, too. Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3 on OS 10.6.8. However, it is only doing it on ONE of my projects. A 4-second test project burned successfully.
I'm  actually going to use iDVD to burn copies for a few people, so I only need the movie file from FCPX.
Would someone please post best export settings for use on a DVD? In FCPX, the project is  in HD (1080p) with all media optimized to ProRes 442. I know it will have to be down-sampled to DVD resolution, but I've always been curious to know what settings will result produce the best possible quality in DVD resolution.
    Thank you!

  • Do I need to download the software to restore my iphone every time I restore one and should it take 3 hours?

Do I need to download the software to restore my iphone every time I restore one and should it take 3 hours?
I have an iphone 3G and an iphone 3GS and apple prompts me to download the software for each every time I use the restore function, this takes an (itunes) estimated 3 hours.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, that's correct - I misunderstood your question - I thought you meant you were downloading mutliple times for the same phone.
Apple provides separate files for each iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad model - with iOS and iCloud, this will improve since you'll only have to download the updates, not the complete file

It's not a good idea to use a network disk for both Time Machine backups and other things.  By design Time Machine will eventually consume all the space on its output disk, which will then cause problem for your other files.  I'd store those other files on an external disk connected to the Time Capsule.  The problem with that is that Time Machine will only back up files that are local to your Mac.  That means that you'll only have one copy of the files on or attached to your Time Capsule.
By the way, you've been misled by poor field labeling on this forum into typing a large part of your message into the field intended for the subject.  In the future just type a short summary of your post into that field and type the whole message into the field below that.

Should it take 3 hours to load leopard?

You might want to start over. Erase and Install 10.5. Then update to 10.5.1. Then Parallels (You need the latest version (3.something I believe) to run on 10.5. If you have installed an earlier version, that might explain part of your problem.) After that you can install Vista.

Good to hear that you've had some success with the import.
I tried 3 times to do it before I finally changed it to H.264, and it worked on the first try.  The quality of the compression was terrible with those settings compared to my standard settings, but I'm just glad it worked.
Rather than Share>Export using QuickTime and then choosing your own settings for H.264, you may get a better result if you simply use the Share>Export Movie option. Alternatively, use the Share>Media Browser option (as I mentioned in my earlier post). You will be presented with a range of sizes to choose from. Depending on your target, it's usually best to select the highest size available, such as Large, HD 720p or HD 1080p. However, for producing a DVD it's best to not go beyond the HD 720p size, as the DVD will be downscaled during encoding to Standard Definition in the appropriate size for either PAL or NTSC.
In my experience, both these options (Export Movie or Media Browser) produce a video file of excellent quality. The files will be in H.264 format and will have the file extension .mov or .m4v depending on the size of the export. I'm assuming that your camera records HD video in AVCHD format.
These files work well with iDVD (or other DVD authoring programs). The export process for the presets is optimised by Apple to produce high quality video files at a reasonable file size. So, selecting a preset may give you a much better result. Choosing your own H.264 settings when using the "Export using QuickTime" method could be why "the compression was terrible". You may have selected a data (bit) rate that was too low. There is always a trade-off between quality and file size when compressing video.
So, to summarise, try one of the Apple presets using either Share>Export Movie or Share>Media Browser.

  • Exported a 3 minute video from iMovie to Quicktime, saved on my desktop.  It started saving as INDIVIDUAL files, as in about 5400! Entire system froze, completely unresponsive.  Powered off 3 times now, it comes on and displays my screen saver but nothing

Exported a 3 minute video from iMovie into Quicktime, saved to desktop.  System started saving INDIVIDUAL frames instead and entire system froze.  Powered off and on twice - screensaver appears, but that's it - nothing else is accessible

Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
You may now be able to log in and move the files off the Desktop. Then reboot as usual.

  • I takes 70 hours to export a sequence in Premiere Pro/ Media Encoder

    Hi,
I am having a lot of trouble with Media Encoder and Premiere Pro CS4. I'm trying to export a sequence that is only 3 minutes long and it's taking 70 hours to export- it usually taked 6 hours or just overnight to export. Below is the screen shots of the settings. Help.Thank you

Thank you for your response and help. I don't think I'm scalling up the frame rate. Attached is some screen shots of the info.  Honestly codecs are a bit confusing for me but I think the codec is H.264
What should my bitrate be? It said for maximum quality increase bitrate and honestly I'm really dissatisfied with the quality, it's a HD camera - Canon XA10 and I feel the picture quality isn't up to par with other HD footage I've seen. I'm thinking it's something I'm doing wrong in the post settings somewhere.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
What are the properties of your source media and what project preset are you setting to match the properties of your source media?
There is no 1080p50 5.1 project preset in any version of Premiere Elements.

  • Should it take SEVEN hours??

Just wondering, should my 64Gb Wi-Fi iPad take around 7 hours to charge?? This seems to be a ridiculous amount of time to charge, is it normal?? If it's not what should I do?
P.S. I am charging it through a dock plugged into a 27" iMac (latest iMac)

The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. *When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode.* Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Does your iPad not charge when connected to your Mac when your iPad is in sleep mode?
