Should my boot camp install see my OSX drives?

HI folks. I"m trying to run Windows 7 under boot camp and thought that a Windows boot camp install could see my mac partitions so I could access the same data when I boot to my mac or my windows 7 boot camp partition. They are formatted OSX Extended Journaled. Should I be able to see them? Thanks.

Windows 7 uses a NTFS formatted file system. OSx uses a Mac only file system, so the answer is you can't without third party tools. Search these forums or search Google. Your question has been asked and answered in these forums several times. The search button is in the upper right of this page.
If you install Windows using a VM like Parallels or Fusion it is a little easier to share files between Windows and OSx.

Boot Camp: Installing windows - CD/DVD driver not found

Hi all,
I have a late 2012 27" iMac - no optical drive. Running 10.9 - Mavericks.
Using Boot Camp Assistant I have created a BOOTCAMP partition, and a bootable Windows 7 USB key.
When I boot into the USB, I can proceed to the point where I click "Install Windows". The next screen tells me there is a missing CD/DVD driver. Well no kidding - my computer doesn't have one.
I've tried removing the USB key and putting it in a different USB port at that step - no change.
I've searched all over, but 99% of the similar problems are from people installing from a disc - I'm installing from an ISO on a USB key.
Any ideas?

Can you verify the MD5/SHA1 of the DVD with the ISO using OS X 'openssl md5' or the M$ FCIV tool? The source of your ISO should be able to provide MD5/SHA1.

Boot camp install from USB Flash Drive

Hi Folks,
I recently purchased a new Macbook Air. It has 10.8.3.
I used the Boot Camp Assistant to set up the computer for Boot Camp. It went through all the steps: First, it formatted my USB Flash Drive. Next, it copied Windows installer crap from the my ISO to the USB Drive. Next, it downloaded the Apple Drivers and put them on the USB drive. Next, it restarted in order to boot from the USB drive.
This is where I hit a wall. The computer will not bpt from the Flash Drive. It is as if the control panel has set the startup disk to "BOOTCAMP" instead of the flash drive. So when the computer restarts, it just says "No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key."
How can I get it to boot from the flash drive?

Corrected the error message to exact phrase.

Hmmm... interesting... My sites I found suggested otherwise. I tried three diferent brands of jump drives and none of them actually booted the Macbook Air. The Boot Camp Assistant used them all just fine, but booting was the issue. Glad you got it to work. Would you mind posting what brand you used so other reading this thread in the future could learn?
Also, were you just using the BCA or, did you do some other process to make it bootable first? Since the BCA formats the drive, I would think any process done ahead of time would be thwarted (as mine were).

Check out the articles below to troubleshoot issues with connecting to Wi-Fi. Start with creating a new Network Location and then search for a Wi-Fi network and if that does not work, then go through second article to troubleshoot the issue further.

Apple Store Refuses to Diagnose Hardware Issue after Boot Camp Installed

I previously reported an issue in the Boot Camp Beta forum, but figured I share this with other MBP users as well. After loading the updated firmware, running boot camp to partion my drive, I installed Windows XP Professional. During the install, the screen would go dark, and come back at irregular intervals, as if there was a video sync problem of something. I managed to get XP installed, and booted it and loaded the updated drives from the Boot Camp driver CD which I had earlier created. Subsequent attempt to use the XP installation result in a constantly blank screen, with only occational glitches, as if there is some activity coming out of the GPU, but it's not working correctly.
This is what led me to take my machine to my local (15 miles away) Apple Retail Store (Washington Sqaure, Tigard, Oregon), and attempt to show the problem to a "genius". HOWEVER... As soon as I mentioned "Boot Camp" and XP, they went into the whole "public beta, blah, blah, blah", "not supported", etc. I tried to explain that I was not reporting a SOFTWARE issue with Boot Camp, but rather a HARDWARE ISSUE which is exposed on my machine only after using BOOT CAMP to partition the hard drive, and then installing Windows XP. All I get was "Well, it works fine in OSX, and Boot Camp is Public Beta, so there's nothing we're going to do". Obviously, I'm livid. And, will pursuing any and all avenues to bring this problem to Apple Management attention. First it was Mark Pienpakdee the "genius" who tried to help me, and then I was further rebuked by Mark Macsurak, Assistant Manager. So, I'm left with broken hardware which won't work correctly running Windows, and no recourse until Boot Camp isn't "Public Beta". What a load of crap. I was so mad, I didn't even bother buying the extra AC adapter I was planning on picking up. ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was absolutly shocked that the "genius" didn't react with anything like "wow, what an interesting problem, let's see if we can diagnose it". He didn't even want to see me boot XP to show the problem, only wanted to see that OSX was working normally and send me on my way.

If you are going to send an e-mail you should send it to [email protected] However, nobody from Apple is going to send you a response. The Software is Beta which means it is not ready for Prime Time (Also that means that the drivers are beta too). Plus they say before you decide to install any of this in their write ups that they do not and will not provide any support for BootCamp and/or Windows. So they are right not to do anything if the computer works like it is supposed to under OS 10.4.6. Now they might take a look at somethings when OS 10.5 comes out if it has BootCamp in it. They may have something similiar in it, or it might be a perfected BootCamp. However, I doubt that they will ever provide any support for Windows. There has been some talk that Microsoft is looking into supporting Windows on the MAC. However, as far as I have heard no decision on that has come out as of yet.

How to undo boot camp, wont boot from install disk in dvd drive

A few months ago I went through trying out boot camp and parallels. Now, I think something is messed up. I dont need either right now, so I just want to wipe out the whole system, repartition the drive, and restore to a blank new install of os x 10.5 leopard.
But when I put in the install disk, it wont boot up off it.
I tried holding down the c key while powering it up, and it just cycles through: hearing the drive whirl, a bling sound, and then repeating it again while the screen is blank. Finally, I held down the click button on the touch pad so it would eject the install disk.
Maybe this will help someone recognize part of the problem. Ever since messing around with boot camp and parallels, my machine wont "reboot". To reboot it, I tell it to reboot, then it hangs on the star like screen, then I have to hold the power button down, then if I do nothing, it tries to boot, but ends up in a dos looking screen saying no bootable device. So when I power it back up, I hold down the alt key, and then I have one choice: the hard drive. I pick that and it boots up ok.
So... I thought, well, maybe the boot camp is still messed up; maybe I should undo boot camp. When I start the boot camp assistant, there is only a "partition" and "back" button; nothing to "restore" the hard drive to just one partition.
What can I do? I want to wipe the drive and install a fresh install from my install disk.

I installed a boot camp partition on a 3T fusion drive. Running disk utility afterward it looks like this.
Is this what it should look like? I understand about the need for bootcamp to create 2 physical drives in core storage in order to install boot camp on a 3T fusion drive but should I see both drives after it is done?

Boot Camp Install Issue

I have a 27 inch Imac using OSX Lion 10.7.3 and I would like to install Bootcamp so I can load Windows 7. When I try to use Bootcamp Assistant I get the following message, "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition." I've gleaned from the forums that I'm going to have to reinitialize the hard drive and reinstall Lion so I can properly use Bootcamp.
Once I reinitialize the drive and reinstall Lion, should I use Bootcamp to create the partition before I restore my Time Machine backup, or should I wait to use Bootcamp until after I've restored my backup? I'm worried that if I wait until after the restore that it would just take me back to "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition." again. But I'm also worried that if I use Bootcamp before the restore that restoring everything will overwrite the partition, Windows install, etc.
I hope this makes sense. Any help would be appreciated.

The disk was from my other PC system, however it is an OEM upgrade disc. Maybe that is the problem but if that is the case why did it work when I installed it through VMware and it worked fine? The disc can be used as a self full install of windows 7. I have also it on another PC with no issues. Trying to convert to Mac finally but this is causing a hiccup.
The next question then is do I really need to go the boot camp way? I only need it to run quickbooks (need windows version for reasons) and a couple of other programs but thought it may run better as a boot camp install rather than VM plus I couldn't figure out how to reduce the size of the partition that VM installs, it takes too much space from me for no reason (60Gb).

I have hand-installed the NVidia graphics driver, and I have keyboard, minimal trackpad, and hardwire to internet all working. So the WIndows machine is usable. But I am hurting for wi-fi, better trackpad, and whatever else is delivered by Boot Camp. I can't use any of the Boot Camp upgrades because I do not have XP or Vista.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use Boot Camp. There's a Boot Camp Support Community where everybody uses Boot Camp. You should also post this question there.

I go throw the boot camp setup with setting my drive and burning the cd drives from mac os... So when I re start the computer and start installing.. My video card is not working... The screen is all chopped and bars running every were, so I can see what Im doing to install vista ... So how do I change this is their some upgrade with the video card and how do I do that

I don't use Bootcamp/Parallels/Windows but I saw in the Bootcamp forums that someone solved this issue by going to the ATI site and downloading and installing the X1900 drivers for Windows (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html). They had to do this while in Windows (which was difficult) do to the garbled screen but managed to suceed. Not sure why they didn't download the trial version of Parallels and do the same thing with an ungarbled screen.

Boot Camp Install Hangs at Bios Initialization

Ugh I'm having such problems trying to get boot camp to install. I feel like it will never work. I've tried and tried and never gotten it to work.
I have an early 2008 mac pro 8 core w/ 16gb ram. I have a clean snow leopard install completely updated with software update. I partition the drive to have a single journaled drive. I then run boot camp assistant and partition the drive so that windows has about 100gb. It partitions and then asks me to put in the windows disk. I put in either 64bit or 32bit windows 7 (tried both.) Computer restarts and then goes to a black screen that says:
Marvell 88SE91xx Adapter Bios Version 1.0.0.1003
Initializing...
And it never gets past that. I end up having to restart and holding down option to get it to boot back into snow leopard. I don't know why this is happening. I've been searching the forums and can not find anyone else having this problem.. I would really appreciate some help. Thanks so much

Stip your machine of any PCIe cards and external devices, and remove any other drives that you have, other than the one for Mac OS.
I prefer giving Windows 7 a full hard drive of its own instead.
Once you have Windows up and running then you can return whatever devices.
Does Marvell ring any bells for you?

i have an existing windows 7 boot camp install that resides on a drive in my 2006 mac pro with my LION OS.
i now have a 2012 mac pro.
should i install windows 7 with boot camp on a SEPARATE drive or can i put it on a partition on the same drive as yosemite?

so i /like/ the idea of having an internal CLONE of my OS in bay 1 on the drive in bay 2.
in the past i have set this to happen nightly and i use WinClone (thanks hatter) to create a BACKUP of the Boot Camp install of Windows 7 and i drop this backup on the DESKTOP. this way i have a BACKUP of Windows on my boot OS and i also have one on the CLONE.
just to confirm - no reason as far as you are concerned to change this?

Failed boot camp install - how to remove windows partition?

After a failed boot camp install, boot camp no longer sees (or can remove) a windows partition - Disk Utility can't seem to remove it and if I use:
$ diskutil list
It shows up as partition 5 "Microsoft Reserved"
I also have a portion of free space that I can't seem to incorporate back into the main OSX partition - how do I remove the windows partition and make the drive a single OSX drive again?
Any help would be much appreciated

Just incase others have this issue, this wasn't caused by using Disk Utility (Disk Utility couldn't remove the partition anyway) it was caused by repeatedly trying to format the Boot Camp partition using the Windows installer when Windows refused to install.
The solution is an Apple tech note (I can no longer find it sorry) that sates that no other hard drives besides the internal HD and the Windows USB flash drive can be connected while installing windows.

New Macbook Pro retina boot camp install issue - Windows 7

Trying to complete a boot camp install but can't get past creating a partition. I am able to download the windows drivers through boot camp, it burns them to a DVD, verifies the DVD (couldn't use CD-R as it kept saying burn failure after verifying files) and then takes me to the make a partition page. When i click install the partition, it pops up saying "can't find the installer disc" and wants me to put one in the super drive. What gives? I have that disc in the drive, also tried the Windows 7 disc and got the same error. So basically I can't create a partition to install windows 7 that I have.
Any thoughts?

Boot camp install would error out

I had multiple issues as well.
When I first tried to install 8.1 full as a fresh boot camp install it would error out and say that the required files were not there to install.
Then I would try it again and it would then get close to finishing and say it cant change the boot order and fail.
Apple please fix as soon as possible.

What's happening here is that the Windows installation, for whatever reason, is not booting properly. It is also set as your default boot system. To change this, reboot your mac while holding down the Option/Alt key. After awhile you will be presented with two icons, one for OS X and the other for Windows. Select OS X and then press Enter.
OS X will boot. Go to System Preferences >> Startup Disk and then select your OS X partition and this won't happen anymore.
