Should my dot-120 link my mac pro to my Magic Trackpad

I have a Mac Pro Dual Core Intel running 10.7.2. Should my D-Link DBT-120 work with my Magic Trackpad?
The dongle has two lights, one is "Link" and the other is "PWR". Neither is lit and in System Report the Bluetooth item reports No information found. Does that mean the 120 is dead?

I was able to dignose my problem from the Apple Support link http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3048. It appears that my dongle is defective. I have ordered a new one from OWC.

I have some comments and a suggestion:
Have you tried your setup with a SD/CF combo card reader (like the Lexar or Kingston FCR-H63)? Does the card appear on the desktop when first plugged in?
Did you need to fool around with any kind of power issues in installing this card in the x4 PCIe slot of the MacPro?
Suggestion. Have you tried one of the fixed in this article to cure the BT issues in MacPro 3,1?
    Good luck.

  • Trying to link existing mac pro time machine backup to cloned startup drive

    Hi
I have recently had to replace my startup drive on my Mac Pro as it was failing. I used SuperDuper! for this, and the clone is working fine as my new startup drive. I then went to run my next time machine backup (i backup to a time capsule), and time machine connected to the existing backup but wanted to backup everything as if backing up for the first time.
So i did a bit of researching around, and found this hint:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20090213071015789
which changes the UUID registered with time machine, from the old drive to the new drive, so that it thinks that it's the old drive and carries on where it left off. i followed the instructions in the hint carefully and everything seemed to go right (i had to copy fsaclctl from an old leopard backup as it is missing in snow leopard). but when i ran the next backup again time machine wanted to backup everything.
towards the bottom of the hint, there is a comment about the UUID generated under snow leopard, as follows:
"I'm concerned that the output of xattr showed 37 hex pairs, not the 32 hex digits and dashes. By the looks -- I've forgotten all my ASCII -- it is a hex representation of the actual hex UUID (43 41 ...) and its dashes (2D), terminated with 00. That's arguably the same as the UUID, but not quite close enough to give me the warm & fuzzies"
So if anyone can help me get this working right, using the method described in the hint, or some other method, i would be very grateful. Seems like my scenario isn't that uncommon (changing a startup drive), and it baffles me that there isn't a more straightforward way to make this work.
    thanks

    3. I am having troubles copying files(iphoto library) from my timemachine backup on to my imac.
That's correct. Time Machine backups retain the original ownership and permissions. So one user doesn't have access to another user's data. Usually, that's a good thing.
    4. I don't need anything else except a few particular files, but everytime i try drag or copy it gives me the 'no privilege/permission error'.
Your best bet may be to use +Migration Assistant+ to migrate the user account and selected data. Then log on as that user and use/copy the data as desired. See the pink box in #19 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

  • Should I buy a iMac or Mac Pro

    Hi all
I am looking to buy a new Mac.
My main purpose will be for developing apps both for Mac ios and running Parallels Desktop to use windows.
I first thought to buy the Mac Pro as it everything I am looking for. If I buy a Mac Pro then I would also have to buy the 27' Thunderbolt Display. When I did my research on the Thunderbolt display I almost got a heart attack when I saw the price.
So then I went and checked the iMac to see it specs and was let down when I saw it only has an i5. Though the price would be much lighter on my pocket.
So now I am torn between buying the iMac or the Mac Pro.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Sincerely
    The one who can't choose

No, that's not correct. There is absolutely no reason you have to buy the Thunderbolt Display if you buy a Mac Pro. You can choose from many monitors.
The Mac Pro connects to monitors through any of its Thunderbolt ports. But you must realize that on a Mac, every Thunderbolt port is the same as the Mini DisplayPort industry standard video connection. You can therefore buy any DisplayPort monitor on the market and plug it in.
For example, I bought a nice NEC monitor and I can plug it into the Thunderbolt port on my Mac Pro or MacBook Pro, using a $5 Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable.
But there are other questions about your post. lllaass has a good question: How do you plan to use your Mac? Because a Mac Pro is too much computer for most users. It's for high end users. You said you had a heart attack at the price of the Apple Thunderbolt Display. But the Thunderbolt Display is only a mid-range price for a professional monitor. Many professional monitors cost between $1000-2000. If you are having a heart attack over the Thunderbolt display price, why aren't you having one over the Mac Pro price?
Following that, if you are worried about the i5 in an iMac, why not just customize the iMac order to get an i7 instead? It's an option for all iMacs except the cheapest one, and it would be much less expensive than a Mac Pro plus any good monitor.

I had the same issue.  After talking to a Verizon FIOS technician from thier techinical support center, he said that no changes are needed for Outlook for Mac.  That means the settings should be:
    Incoming server: incoming.verizon.net
    Incoming port: 110
    Use SSL to connect: UNCHECKED
    Outgoing server: outgoing.verizon.net
    Outgoing port: 25
    Use SSL to connect: UNCHECKED
Hope that helps others not waste an hour searching Verizon's website and trying to navigate their massive phone tree to actually speak to a technician.

  • I have a MacBookPro running 10.6.8. I use Bluetooth to link to devices including keyboard and magic trackpad. I bought a Bose Wave III stereo and a bluetooth device. No problem with iPhone, iPad, wife's MacBook. Not working for me. Thoughts?

I keep receiving an errror message that "there was an error with the device." I use bluetooth for all sorts of things, no problem. Anyone have any suggestions?Because the stereo is connecting no problem to every other device, I'm assuming there's an issue between my laptop and the stereo. Thanks.

Apple might fix the problem with SL; they did release the 10.6.8 Supplemental Update, which fixed an HDMI problem. So we might get a fix.
Don't know if this problem affects Lion. I haven't read much about it, since I'm not upgrading for another few months.

  • Cooling Options? Mac Pro Heating Up Room

Hi there. The AC in the house cannot keep my office cool (12ft by 15ft), it always hovers around 82 degrees while the rest of the house is 72. If the computer is off the room is fine.
I'm looking for options to cool my Mac Pro and RAID array.
    1) I've seen some units (an Autodesk Smoke..) encased in a large temperature controlled, refrigerator-like unit. Is there a name for this? Any links?
    2) Would it help to use a fan software? I've heard mixed things about them. Although I'm not sure if this would cool the room..
I tried a standalone AC unit but I didn't have a way for the exhaust to exit so it actually heated the room.
    Any thoughts/ ideas?
    Thank you in advance.

Nope. AC window unit is best, or central air and direct it through the vents.
I have never, ever, in nearly 4 yrs heard anything 'negative' about SmcFanControl - it could and should be a must for any Mac Pro - all it can do is help prevent heat from building inside the case and can't do anything for the room (and yes my low end 1,1 does heat a small room after a few hours).
In fact last summer, I felt it was time to build a PC to run Windows and keep things running cooler, even though it is a much more powerful system.
In one house, I had a small storage room that I ran extension cables from and left cold in winter and had its own AC in summer. I thought of drilling into the basement and running DVI and USB extensions also!

    Supported GPU technologies (Mac):
    - AMD/nVidia OpenCL for direct link in MacOS 10.8.5 and higher
    - OpenGL for SG native
    Supported GPU technologies (Win):
    - AMD OpenCL, nVidia Cuda for direct link in Win7,Win8, Win8.1

Note: Although SG not utilises two GPU's, it should run fine on your new Mac Pro and use OpenCL for acceleration

  • New Mac Pro and 9.2 Hangs on Adjustments?? Old G5 Doesn't

    Hello
I have what should be a very fast new Mac Pro.  6 core at 3.46Ghz.  48Gb of RAM.  Solid state boot drive.  Software RAID 0 with 2 Hitachi 3TB drives, hardly anything on them yet. Nvidea Quadro 4000 CUDA card.  Everything installed and burned in for the overnight 8 hour test with the MPG workstation program at OWC.  Lion 10.7.2.
I had approximately 700 in camera photos combined still in camera between an up-to-16MP Sony NEX 5N camera and up-to-24MP pics on a Sony A77, that have already been loaded into my 6-7 year old 2.4Ghz dual core G5 with 6.5Gb RAM and much older version of iPhoto. OS 10.4.7 I believe.
Last night I loaded all those same pictures into the new machine and 9.2 version iPhoto.  And then deleted them from the cards on both cameras.  No issues. Smoking fast imports compared to the G5 which wasn't all that bad.
On the G5 with the picture adjust controls I could use the slider to go deeply into those same photos and see the effects of contrast, sharpness and all the other options.  Like butter.  Make the adjustments while in that deep if desired and then pull back to evaluate the overall picture before saving.  Or back in again if desired. No issues.
With the new rig I couldn't wait to try all of this, but once I go deep inside and start to move the adjustment slider controls the system every time starts getting hung with the spinning wheel.   Have to wait and wait for them to catch up to the curser on that adjustment.  Most of the time the system then will just get stuck and I have to force iPhoto to quit.
Please....does anyone know why all this latest powerfull hardware and software is doing that, compared to the old, much less capable G5?  I am really concerned now.  Haven't had a chance to get Photoshop and the other production premium software tested yet.
And one last question please.  Does anyone know if the "Enhance" feature in the Quick Fixes section adjusts Gamma as well?  There seems to be a lot more going on to give the photos depth (what I always really try to do)   than the sum of the small slider movements in the Adjust section.  With my old system and iPhoto version there was no "Gamma" adjust slider in iPhoto proper......but if I saved a photo first to my Desktop for instance, and then called up the adjustment features, there was a Gamma slider there.  Very handy and appreciated.
I see similar vast improvements on some photos now with the "Enhance" feature that looks like maybe Gamma has been optimized as well?  There now is no Gamma slider available even if the photo is taken to the desktop first.
    Thanks much
    Ron

    Hello Terence
Thanks for the tip to try.  Couldn't get to it until late last night.  Seems to still be the same in Library 2.
Also seems to be worse with 27" Cinema Display at full resolution.  And with several sliders on adjustment.  If I drop the resolution to 1920 x 1080 or 1600 x 900 and move smoothly about it is not as apt to hang up.  With as much horsepower as the new Mac Pro has, should resolution of monitor be an issue in these adjustments deep into the pictures?
How about the Enhance button?  Is gamma involved?  Everything I read about it on searches only talks about boosting saturation of the color and fine tuning with little other slider adjustments.  But on a picture where it has made a big difference to the good with depth and overall look, if I look at where the sliders were adjusted and then undo the enhance, and go back and manually put the sliders in the same position it doesn't look the same.
Does anyone know if gamma is being adjusted with this button?  Sure seems like it but can't find it mentioned anywhere.
    Thanks again!

  • Mac Pro Magic Mouse issue 2013

I'm starting this thread to try to get some current information on what seems to be a long time problem. My church media dept upgraded to a Mac Pro from a 2006 G5 two weeks ago and out of the box the magic mouse is jumpy, lags and disconnects. I thought the mouse was an issue so I brought a blue tooth mighty mouse from home to get by. It acted the same way. The only conclusion could be the bluetooth function of the Mac Pro.
I did my homework and found evidence of this problem all the way back to 2009. Gotta say I'm disappointed in Apple to have an issue unresolved this long. I'm quite the mac evangelist and this is hard to defend. I have read all kinds of solutions from rewiring the antenaes, installing external antenaes, USB plugins, etc. Most of these solutions are quite dated so I was wondering what the 2013 fix is for this issue. Preferably without having to buy something else after spending 3500 dollars on a machine that should just work!
I have a magic mouse at home on a mini and we have a mini at the church that we bought at the same time as the Mac Pro and the magic mouse works on that. So clearly this is isolated to the Mac Pro.

yep-you're right. However, Apple does NOT read this community forum, Ever. So, posting complaints about Apple here will do you no good. That being said.... there is no
"2013" solution, as the Mac Pro may not be Apple's current priority. I use a usb to BT adapter from Iogear which seems to work fine (it's the 421, the 521 will work with Moutain Lion only). I also bought a MS mouse because my wired mighty mouse bit the dust. I think I paid $40 for it. It came with its own adapter. It's an Explorer touch mouse if that helps. It also came with its own dongle, plugged into the usb port.  It has worked fine.
Those are the  known "solutions" : check to see if the Mac pro has an airport card, and where the BT antenna is plugged in, maybe try an external antenna (the G5 used to have one, I know) or a USB dongle. I've heard that removing the battery cover on the mouse helps. Why? I don't know

  • Cluster via Mac Pro second ethernet port?

I'm on an enterprise 10/100 LAN and want to link two Mac Pros together for a cluster. I don't want to use the Internet Ethernet-1 port because it's slow and IT will probably throw a fit if they figure out I'm transferring massive amounts of data over the network. Consequently, I'll try to get a 1000Mb router and make my own gigabit LAN linked into the building network, however, IT will throw a fit if someone is operating behind a firewall inside their precious network.
Anyway, until I get this router situation worked out, I would like to link the two machines via a single Ethernet cable, while still retaining my Internet connection on the other port. In my trials, this doesn't work. I appear only able to use the active Ethernet port w/ the LAN.
    Any ideas here?
Also, any suggestions on a reasonable quality router would be bonus help.
    Thanks

I've tried this before a while ago. I had the LAN/cloud setup on port 1, and directly connected to another Mac on port 2 and no dice w/ manual network settings. IIRC, I couldn't even select it in Qmaster.
I guess, first, has anyone got this to work? I'll give it another shot, but it would be nice to know someone has got this working before I start banging my head again.
