Should never happen

What the heck am I supposed to do with the dialog that just popped up in Logic 8.02
"Not enough memory to create clipboard/Undo!
Should never happen"
I'm on a pretty high end machine too - lots of real memory, never mind virtual memory.
Sigh

First, go to options -> project information
This window tells you what's loaded in RAM. There will most likely be a massive number for undo history.
Now, go to edit -> delete undo history
Delete your undo history, and that number will get smaller. That should fix it.

    i was talking to someone at frankfurt about this (possibly logic had crashed on something we were looking at - i don't remember) and they said error messages like that were for the developers. the fact you saw the error message yourself was in itself a bug.
    i don't know for sure, but i think you are seeing some kind of bug relating to memory management. try deleting history and reorganizing memory if you get this error a lot.

  • Mail: no entry for mailbox id 2 in the cache; this should never happen

    My system log is full of thousands of errors from Mail:
    3/20/15 5:26:50.009 PM Mail[7303]: no entry for mailbox id 2 in the cache; this should never happen
    It appears to generate a few hundred of these entries every time I launch Mail, check for new mail, or click on any of my mailboxes in Mail. There's a noticeable power drain and hit to responsiveness when this occurs.
    What I've tried so far:
    Restarting Mail
    Mailbox > Rebuild
    Editing Accounts.plist to remove the mailbox with id 2
    Deleting cache.db
    Deleting all accounts from Mail and recreating one at a time
    Deleting com.apple.mail from Containers
    I have no third-party add-ons installed. My mail accounts are IMAP (Gmail and a personal domain account). I'm on a 13" MBP Retina, Yosemite 10.10.2, Mail version 8.2 (2070.6).
    Does anyone have an idea as to what's causing this error spam?

    Is Mail working properly? If so, ignore the Console messages.

  • No entry for mailbox id ... in the cache; this should never happen

    I'm seeing this in my Console Log. Multiple entries for specific ids (see below). Should I be concerned? (I am not really concerned about the "this should never happen," having been a programmer and supervised programmers.)
    I've got the latest system patches. I have AttachmentsScannerPlugin.mailbundle, Imap-idle-plugin.mailbundle, MailActoOn.mailbundle, and MailFollowup.mailbundle.
    Thanks!

    The following procedure would probably solve the problem if the plugins were properly uninstalled first. I don't know whether it'll work in the current situation:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong -- e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move any "IMAP-", "Mac-", or "Exchange-" account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON'T trash any "POP-" account folders, as that would cause all mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be "imported". Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it's "importing", but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

    I have determined exactly what this is.
    In the folder:
    /Library/Mail/AccountTypes/com.apple.builtin.mailaccounts/
    There is a list of different mail account types in a file called "MailAccounts.plist". When the Console gives you an error message, it will specifically state ..."mailbox id ## in the cache", which corresponds to an entry in this file.
    This plist file must be modified. I have not tried flat out deleting the file, but if you can get the developer tools, you can easily delete the offending entries.
    To delete the bad entries:
    NOTE: If you have to delete multiple entries, delete the ones with the largest index (i.e. "id 999999") FIRST.
    1. Open MailAccounts.plist in the Property List Editor
    2. Under the root triangle, click the "Multiple" triangle (this shows you the actual entries)
    3. Starting with the highest mailbox number, delete each entry "Item #" by highlighting the node and pressing the "Delete Item" button on the toolbar.
    4. Repeat until all your console errors are accounted for.
    5. Save the file: File >> Save
    You can exit the Property List Editor. Open Mail and wait a few seconds, then check the console for error messages. If there are no more error messages, you're set! Otherwise go back and try deleting the offending item(s) again.

    I keep getting a message stating that it is critical that I update my Firefox. I click on the update icon and a software update box shows up and tells me I am connecting to the update server but the connection never happens. In the Task Manager, make sure to check both the Applications tab and the Processes tab. On the Processes tab, Firefox may have two different components running: firefox.exe and plugin-container.exe. Well, in 3.5.11, it would be only the first one.

    If this has started happening suddenly without your having made any changes to your configuration, the it's likely that the boot drive is failing, or that there's some other hardware fault. Back up all data immediately, then run the Apple Hardware Test.

    Even if the test is negative, you should make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested more thoroughly.

    Safari on my iPad says service temporarily unavailable. This has now happened two days in a row. What can I do to correct this? It has never happened before in 7 months of owning my iPad. This has me confused. Rebooting the iPad (holding down on the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen) should not in any way, shape or form, remove content from the iPad.
    Then you stated that you chose the option to back up before restarting? There is no option to backup before "restarting" on the iPad. Are you restoring the device in iTunes?

  • Assert &  writing code that should never be reached

    hi dudes,
    i thing i got that assertion-stuff right BUT there is one thing confusing me:
    from my book:
    "The following idiom can be employed to explicitly test that certain locations in the code will never be reached.
    assert false : "This line should never be reached.";
    but what is the point of writing code(at all) that will never be reached?
    i mean if it should never be reached ill simply never write it.
    even in this tricky EXAMPLE
    int someMthd(int trinityMember)
    switch (trinityMember) {
        case THE_FATHER:
            return psalm101;
        case THE_SON:
            return psalm102;
        case THE_HOLY_GHOST:
            return psalm103;
        default:
            assert false: trinityMember; //Ok BETTER WOULD BE throw new AssertionError(trinityMember);
    }if no case match i would get COMPILE TIME error so that will indicate me that method could(possible) never return an int. So if a i can compile it it will be ok!?
    so again what is the point of writing code that should never be reached[\b]?

    if no case match i would get COMPILE TIME error so
    that will indicate me that method could(possible)
    never return an int. So if a i can compile it it will
    be ok!?But without the default case you can't compile it, so you have to write a default case (or some other code). What code would it make sense to put there other than throwing an exception of some sort or returning a default value?
    so again what is the point of writing code that
    should never be reached[\b]?You probably believe the code should never be reached in your example because to you it only makes sense to pass either THE_FATHER, THE_SON or THE_HOLY_GHOST as a parameter. But what if somebody were to pass THE_FIRESTARTER to your someMthd method, having not realised that you haven't coded for that argument? What should your code do then? It can't do nothing, so it makes sense to provide a default case that lets the user know (by throwing an exception), that something unexpected has happened. Or, you might decide to return a default value that is useful and perhaps somehow informs client code of the unusual circumstance (for example a return value of -1 might indicate that there is no relevant psalmX).
    So this is about robustness - making sure that in unexpected circumstances, your application does something reasonable.

I chose today has initial cutoff, a dayli frequencies and move action where I defined a destination folder. Then I went in OCDB and I manualy declared a document a record. The problem is the document is never moved even if I wait more then one day. Thank's for any help!

    Hi Daniel,
    please make sure that you enabled the Records Management Lifecycle Agent as you activated the records management part of the CDB.
    Background: The Records Management Lifecycle Agent is a time-based agent that processes the cutoff, retention, and disposition instructions on record categories and record folders.
    From the ContentServices Admin Guide (should be same for CDB):
    To activate the Records Management Lifecycle Agent:
    1. Connect to the Oracle Collaboration Suite Control and go to the Content Services
    Home page.
    2. In the Administration section, click Node Configurations.
    3. On the Node Configurations page, click the name of the regular node that runs the
    Records Management Lifecycle Agent.
    4. In the Servers section, select RmLifeCycleAgent and click Edit.
    5. Select Active, then click OK.
    6. On the Edit Node page, click OK.
    7. Return to the Content Services Home page and restart the node that corresponds
    to the node configuration you edited.

    Since installing maverick the sound quality is terrible and I get frequent distortion, which never happened before.
    I have reset the airport express and reconfigure my wireless settings. I have also used Ethernet on its own but still get the same sound problems.
    I would love to turn itunes sound off as you used to be able to do, but this I believe can't be done.
    Has anyone else been having the same types of problem, and better still has anyone got the answer?

    When the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is connected by Ethernet, you will find an option in the AirPort Utility, labeled: Enable AirTunes over Ethernet on the Music pane. Just select this option to allow streaming iTunes via the AirPort's Ethernet port. You should also be able to disable the AX's wireless so that it shouldn't interfere with the nearby TC.

    I have an iMac 8, 1 that I upgraded Leopard to Snow Leopard.  It was totally updated with the latest from Apple when I bought and tried installing Lion.  The upgrade failed, shot my OS and I couldn't boot.  Had the constant spinner on a grey screen..  did a format of the drive, hdd repair and everything came back clean... got back to Snow Leopard and all the updates on it again and then retried the Lion thing... same bs... dead duck.  Crashed my system one too many times.  I can't see where a few small changes, mostly app related can be classified as an OS upgrade and is not compatible with my iMac.  I have the stuff running on my Mac Pro but have yet to notice anything impressive.  I've always used F3 and really didn't require Mission Control.  Just open you app folder for launch pad... duh?  I use the hot corners anyhow.  As far as Safari is concerned... as a power user, Apple missed the boat on that for me.. full screen etc.. Wow.  I don't like the new Mail either..
    As you can see/read, I'm less than impressed with this release from Apple but I own so many of their products that I will have to put up with it for now... somehow the MS logo should apply to this release Steve.

    What OSX was installed when you purchased your Mac? Even though it was installed you should have received the install disk(s) as the Utilities are on those.
    If you do not have the install disk you can try contacting Apple and see if they can supply one,(explain you never received at purchase) you will need the build info of your machine, which can be found by clicking the Apple logo in the menu bar>About This Mac>More Info, and it should be in the first window under hardware overview.
