Should Vault Update Take So Long

MacBook Pro, Western Digital 750 GB Firewire Drive (brand new with 700gb available)
I recently started using Aperture instead of iPhoto and brought over all my old pictures and several camera uploads worth of new photos. I have about 6000 masters now. I created a vault on the external drive and expected the initial copy to take a while and that was fine. The vault takes about 19 gb on the hard drive.
I think I added a few new masters, then edited ONE version, and the vault status was yellow. Then I decided I would update the vault and clicked the yellow icon. Aperture asked me to confirm updating the vault, then I think it took over half an hour (I stopped watching) to "compare" the vault and update.
That seems like a lot of time and waiting when all I did was edit one version and maybe add a few masters. I would think backups would be incremental and pretty quick if you hadn't changed many things.
Am I missing something here? Thanks!

  • HT1544 how long should this update take?

I am intalling leopar 10.5 on my computer. It's been "intalling" for over 3 hours now. How long should this usually take if you intall it via DVD?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It shouldn't take that amount of time. What is the screen showing? Is the progress bar frozen? The only solution would be to restart your Mac, but it's better to first check what your screen is showing

  • How long should Yosemite update take?

HHow long does Yosemite update take?

An update or upgrade? Read Software update, upgrade--what's the difference? - Apple Support.
There are two parts to upgrading an earlier version of OS X to Yosemite: downloading it and installing it. The time required to download it is a function of your ISP's speed as well as your wireless environment, assuming you're using wireless. If you have a reasonably fast connection, that will be about an hour. It can take a few times that much if your connection is particularly slow.
Installing Yosemite will take 30 to 40 minutes or so.
Incremental updates occur considerably faster than that, but they also require the same two parts: downloading and installing.

  • G5 Updates Take A Long Time

I just got my Dual 2.3 G5 yesterday. Man is it fast!!! However, when it downloaded all the software updates, it took a long time. Also, when I was downloading the Microsoft Office updates, it took forever. I have a high-speed cable internet connection that's conencted with an ethernet cable. Is it normal for updates to take a long time?

    Dear Tim,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Usually this should not happen with a new unit however this may be caused due to some reasons because of the network or some damaged file.
You can try few steps and see if this makes a difference :
1.Delete the Home user Caches. Location Home user > Library > Caches
2.Run disk utility and verify and repair permissions.
3.Check if you have additional settings on you network like DNS or so. (contact your ISP)
4.Drag the file com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist to the desktop. Location HDD > Library > Preferences > com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
5.Restart the unit holding "shift key to force boot the unit to Safe boot once and then restart normal.
6.If the issue still persist make a new Admin user from System Preferences > Accounts and check on the new user.
    Hope this helps.
    Good Day!
    Ravi Dimri.

  • After installing update takes much longer to go to sleep

After I installed the latest security update (2005-08) I noticed that my powerbook takes much longer now to go to sleep. In fact it can now take somewhere around 30 seconds to finally show me the blinking eye (or whatever that is called). Before the update, it went to sleep in just a few seconds, it never took that long. Has anyone else noticed this behavior?
    This is a powerbook G4 with 10.4.2.

Ok, please forget about this post. It's amazing what a reboot can do

  • How long should current update take to load on my mac? been 5 hrs.

last night(16th.) very early AM 17th. there was a window which appeared saying critical update for firefox, update now? so I clicked on update now(around 2amCST) and went to bed. just came on line around 20 min. ago(725AM CST) and the update was still running. clicked on yellow dot so I wouldn't have to look at it. Am afraid there is/I did something wrong? help please...

I let my iPhone run out of battery. Plugged it in, but went right back to the white screen/black apple (startup screen I think). Let it die again. Hooked it back up to the iMac & let it power back up: it's on the startup screen still & the iMac and iTunes have no idea it's there. Disconnected it. Can't turn it off. Guess I'll visit Apple after work tomorrow.

  • Blackberry 10 Software Update Takes Too Long

I started updating through my computer a couple hours ago, and it downloaded the update normally, but when it started installing it, it remained at 1% for over an hour.
Is this a glitch, or what?

Let it sit a bit longer, it shouldn't be that long, but if you have a large amount of filespace to backup and restore... it could.
If after another hour it has not proceeded, remove and reinsert the battery and see if the device boots up?
    IF STILL NOT:
I would connect the device to your PC and don't open the Link software, but type this in your PC browser
    www.blackberry.com/upgrades
It should recognize your device, If it does not, while the device is still connected to the PC, remove and reinsert the battery to see if the device will be recognized.

  • Creative suite updates take too long if they update at all

why does the creative suite (in my case) take days upon days to update? it seems to get stuck and won't update any further. the blue sliding dohinky that shows how far the update has gone seems to get stuck and won't go any further. I've tried to keep the computer on all night and that didn't help. then I tried to run it again and the blue line goes to the very same update and length of the slider it was before then it won't go any further.
this seems to always happen and there should be a fix from Adobe for this problem, but can't find one.

It may be an idea to download the updates for each app individually, save to a folder and install each update one by one from there.

  • Why do apple software updates take so long?

I've been using iTunes for years on my laptops and PCs however whenever I get a notice to update my iTunes software I dread it because I know it's going to take at least an hour to download and install. As a result I hold off doing this for as long as I can for each update. I don't have this issue with any other apps or music programs I periodically update.

Check your Internet connection now, use speedof.me

  • Ipad updated to 7.1 but after update takes extremely long time to bring up itunes, everything else works fine

I updated my ipad to 7.1 this weekend.  I am using the same wireless network, etc.....nothing else has changed but it takes an extremely long time to load itunes on the ipad.  Everything from the store itself and the items I have purchased take anything rom 3 to 5 minutes to load.
I have reset the ipad, reset the "network" from the router to the option on the ipad.
    Any other suggestions?

    Check App Store
    1. Tap "Settings"
    2. Tap "iTunes & App Stores"
    3. Tap on your Apple ID
    4.Tap "View Apple ID"
    5. Enter your user name and password.
    6. Tap "Country/Region."
    7. Tap "Change Country/Region"
    8. Select the country/region where you are located.
    9. Tap "Done".
Note: If the change doesn't take effect, sign out of account and sign in again.

  • Nokia software Updater-take too long for installat...

    Hi,
I jus download Nokia software Updater on my pc. I start connect this appl. to my e65 since 8 am in the morning, it takes 6 hours already but it not complete yet. I can't even close this program on my moile now. What should I do?

    Dido79,
the automatic edit message indicates that the editing was done by yourself, or someone using your username and password.
It it was done by Nokia Support Discussions moderators, it would say so - and they would have left a note explaining why the post has been edited.

  • Why do software updates takes so long?

It had been about 4 weeks since I last synced my iPhone4. When I plugged it in I got the dialog box advising there was a new version of the iPhone software available so I initiated the download. Why does it take over 25 minutes (according to the progress box)? How big are those files? The dialog box doesn't indicate a file size. I am syncing into iTunes 10.4.1.10 on a Win 7 64 bit PC. I also have a 25 MBPS FiOS connection.

OK, let me add: When the upload was completed and the iPhone was being updated, up pops the notice that the phone could not be updated because of unknown error (1602). That error, according to Apple, may be caused by a bad USB connection. So I switched to a differeent USB port and now it says my iPhone needs to be "restored" to factory settings.
Is there any way to avoid the restore at this point? As I said it had been about 4 weeks since my last sync and I'd hate to lose my data since then. Help??

    Hi!
I am a proud new MacBook Owner and recent Windows switch. So I am still trying to figure out the new Mac World. On Wed. I started my laptop, and updated all of my software. Today (Sunday) My Software Updater is still running and the progress bar reads: Installing: Finishing installation with the blue bar about 3/4 done, not moving since about Thursday. If anyone could give me guidance and assistance of how to complete my software update it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!!

I think you should just restart ur computer and try again.

  • Is it ok that the new Mac IOS update take a long time?

    Guys,
I have more than one hour waiting for the new Mac IOS update. Is it normal? The screen is only with the Apple and 1/4 of progress. Thanks! Ricardo.

The update is about 1.5 GB. So the time to download it is entirely dependent on your Internet connection speed.
