Should've offered a sim free version as well...

Apple is well known for being apart of the open source community and intergrating developers into OS X and I think they have really let their dedicated followers down by not also providing a sim free iphone to the open market but locking it to a single network. Yes, the iphone has features which need a special network operator to use but really are all of us that concerned with rewinding and fast forwarding through our voicemail to go ahead and change our lives just for that?
I know Apple claims that by going with AT&T they also keep the price of the phone down to the buyer but come on, on a two year contract how much are you actually paying for the thing. A lot more than I think it's worth. If Apple had decided to sell the iphone on it's own what would have been it's rrp? Are you going to tell me that the iphone would have exceded $1000? It's a phone not a mac.
I guess for my own reasons that I can afford an iphone but because of logistics I cannot be bound to a single network operator for an extended period of time and thus will probably never own something I have been waiting for to come onto the market since it Steve Jobs brought it to life. I think I will never understand why Apple did not offer the stand alone version to the market and you would have to do without certain features which I think as mentioned are not the main features of a truly amaizing piece of technology.

If you plan to buy from an Apple Retail Store in UK paying full price the
iPhone 5 will be unlocked (for ever) and work on any supported GSM
network anywhere on 3G
ALL other iPhones sold in UK will be locked to a carrier .
You can then get a sim only PAYG or month to month contract deal

  • Are Apple stores (not online) selling the iphone 4 SIM free?

    hi,
i read in several places that buying the iphone 4 from the apple online store will get u a SIM free version. i wanted to know if you go to the Apple store, can we still get the iphone 4 SIM free straight from the store. Or is getting the iphone from the online store the only way to get it sim free?
Please provide any info you might have
    thanks

Theoretically, yes, you should be able to walk into an Apple store and purchase a sim free iPhone.
However, if you were thinking of doing this on 24th, then I would not bother, unless you have either pre-ordered or reserved for in store pick up. You probably will not get one on launch day, unless you are prepared to go and camp outside your local Apple store from perhaps midnight on Wednesday, or 3 or 4am on Thursday.
I am sure there will be lots of disappointed people on launch day who come away without a phone. Unless you have reserved, then I would wait or go and order directly from the Apple UK store and you will get it delivered by July 14th then.

  • Sim-Free Country Variants in Australia Still Waiti...

We already have two carrier variants released, how is it possible that sim-free Country Variants Phones are unable to get the updates. Surely these are tested before they are given to carriers to test and approve so why is it the sim-free Australian variants are still waiting for approval.
These Phones are not tied to any carrier, so surely if one carrier says its fine for use should be all that is needed to release it to all sim-free phones. We already have Telstra (the biggest Telco in Australia) approve and release it for the Lumia 920, And the Boost Carrier (part of Optus in Australia, the second biggest in carrier in Australia) allow and release for the Lumia 820's, So why are Sim-free phones still waiting for approval.
Or have these phones just been forgotten as in previous updates for other nokia phones in the past

There should be no reason why they should still be testing the sim-free version completely around the world.

  • Sim Free N70/N80

I'm thinking of getting a N70 and wanted to know if anyone has a sim free one.
I've read that the ones on the Orange network have been having problems and wondered if sim free one's have the same problems or not.
Also which firmware version should I be looking for, as I don't know if it is different on a sim free version than the Orange network version.
Lastly, I know that the N80 is not available yet, but do you think it would be a better idea getting sim free one, considering all the problems the latest phones are having with the networks playing with the software.
    Many thanks.

    Hi everyone.
The Nokia software updater, and Nokia Service engineers will only apply firmware that is authorised by your network provider. If your network provider has not approved an update, then we can only advise that you wait till they do or contact them for details of when they will approve the new firmware. Unfortunately this is part of your contractual agreement with your network, that you use the supplied handset as it has come. Nokia can not make change to a Network handset with out the approval of the Network it self.
This topic has been discussed many times and a simple search will point out that this is the case. This has always been the case.

Not sure if this phone is available on networks other than Three at the moment.
Don't know what version to look out for, as you said, may be Three's version that is having problems, but as the phone is only out on Three, there's no way of knowing how Nokia is setting the Version numbers for the phones.

  • Mobileconfig for unsupported carriers on SIM Free phones

Currently my company has several branches outside of the United States. We purchase SIM Free phones to use on unsupported carriers when a supported carrier is not available locally.
We also build mobileconfig files to control security, VPN, Exchange access, and APN configurations. All of the services we subscribe to includes tethering. We have access to the tethering APNs and when configured manually, it works flawlessly. The problem is when we create custom profile configuration, the tethering disappears but the data access still works. Today, our config files has no APNs which leaves the configuration open for individual users to enter manually. We would like however to include all of the configurations into one profile or multiple profiles pushed to the phones to include the carrier data APN, Tethering APN, and all of our internal configuration. Is it possible to do via mobileconfig files?

  • Question for *SIM FREE* N95 owners.

    Hi.
If you have bought a generic SIM free version of the N95 with no network branding please post the colour of your handset and your product code (underneath IMEI on label underneath battery, also listed on the label on your nokia box)
I am trying to compile a list of the different product codes.
    cheers

Sent the Orange back as it did not do VOIP which they assured me it would DOH
Now got a Sim Free unbranded not locked Light Graphite N95
(silver to me and you) Still on Orange with same contract just sim free so it can do VOIP
What is the product Code 0548364 its not the generic Euro 1 and the software update was very late compared to some sim frees
The box was unbranded as is the phone with no branded software i can see just one small code on the box starting cpw I guess is Carphone warehouse UK SO I would guess it could be the UK sim free rather than the European sim free?
What is the O2 software so if I can see if its part of that
But after the update to 6.11 there is still no branding
I chose it for the colour dont like the plum or sand
any ideas product Code 0548364 and why the update is so far behind the others?
Nokia user / modder since Nokia Orange and Mobira user too before that

  • Can i use iPhone T-mobile contract free version outside USA with any carrier?

    Hello everyone,
I am planning to purchase the iPhone 6 via Apple online store, on or after september 19th.
I am living in Sri Lanka and obviously we do not have AT&T or any other service providers listed, here. My only option would be to buy the T-mobile 'contract-free' version if I am not willing to wait till Apple releases an unlocked 'sim-free' version within next few months. Therefor, I want to confirm and make sure that I can use the iPhone T-Mobile version with any carrier of my choice and is not locked only for T-mobile and can be used here in Sri Lanka.
    Hoping for your kind support
    Regards,
    Nimasha

    Hey Nicolas,
I had the same question, so I went to the Apple chat, and I asked the same, 'cause I need an iPhone to works in South America and Europe as well.
so what the person on the chat  answered me was that the T-mobile cellphone comes Unlocked, so you can use it anywhere.
I Guess I can get it and now.

  • Iphone 5 sim free

when will the iPhone 5 sim free version be available to pre order?

This forum is here to support using iPhones in an Enterprise (corporate) environment. What does this have to do with using an iPhone in an enterprise environment?

  • What's the diffence between T-Moble and Sim Free

Is it just with sim card and without sim card only?
    Is it the same iphone?

Contract free versus SIM free are different. What you want to do is to wait for Apple to sell the SIM free version of the iPhone 6 if you want to take it for use outside the US.
See this explanation from the Apple 5S page that details this...
If you buy iPhone for T-Mobile, it will arrive with a nano-SIM card already installed that you can activate by visiting an Apple Retail Store or a T-Mobile store or by calling T-Mobile. If you buy a SIM-free iPhone, you will need to purchase a GSM-compatible nano-SIM card separately. In the United States, you can purchase such a SIM from AT&T or T-Mobile. When you travel internationally, you can use a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5s from a local GSM carrier.
Also be aware warranty service is country specific. So if you buy a phone in the US and it develops problems you would need to return it for service in the US...
Historically I believe its been 2-4 months after the release of the provider locked versions that Apple starts selling SIM free iPhones. You just have to be patient. Personally I am also waiting for Apple to release a truly unlocked SIM free device before I upgrade one of our iPhones.

  • I upgraded and charged last month for Adobe Complete. But I was downgraded to Free version. Can this be fixed without further interruption of services?

I upgraded and was charged last month for Adobe CC Complete. I got Adobe CC Complete, however, I was downgraded to Free version. I checked payment status in Adobe Transaction History and it says Complete. I was able to confirm this with my receipt and/or bank transaction history too.
Should I continue with the Free version (with limited/ downgraded services) until it finishes? Does it automatically update to my paid account once Free version expires? Sadly, with this I wouldn't be able to use all features I've already paid for.
But I'm more concerned with the interruption of services this problem would cause. Can this be fixed without further interruption of services?

Before installing new activation-free version of CS2, during uninstall of old Photoshop, should I keep or remove preferences and should I use standard or advanced uninstall?

Thank you very much for that info.
Also, I believe I will need to choose the Advanced uninstall option because the Standard uninstall states it will keep activation data.  As I will need to use the new activation number, I think Advanced is the more thorough way to go.
    Thanks again.

  • Is there something comparable to Microsoft word on my Mac or should I just download the Mac version of Word? Is there a FREE download?

Is there a similar program comparable to Microsoft word or should I down load the Mac version of word? Is There a free down load? When I down load the free version it tells me there is no place to down load it to? I am new at this, Thanks.

Tried using Pages? you already have that and it is a word processor and can export to Word as well as open, but it does not use or save in Word format by default - you have to export each time you want or need the file in .docx

  • Firmware Versions and networks and / sim free...

As has been stated elsewhere ad nuaseum...
There are various forms of firmware avilable for the phones out there.
Can we start a post that states the phone, whether networked or sim free, the country and the version of firmware.
In this way we ALL know what is the most upto date version for our handsets, networks and countries etc
    NOTE to moderators!
Can we ensure the the format and content of subsequent posts is kept to the following example (please) : -
    N95
    Vodafone UK
    V 10.0.0.018
    15-03-07
    RM-159
    Nokia N95 (41.01)

Come on people, information is the key to knowledge and power.
If we know what is and is not availble by network we can exert pressure on the networks who have NOT released their B*st*rd*s*d versions of firmware.
We all benefit and we have the advantage of knowing that it availble in HK or Dubai but not here etc
